Question about the Boss Battle?

Do you have to be leading the crew/initiate the Boss Battle for it to be credited to the quest? As I just completed it for the first time, and have had the quest in my journal for a while now, and yet I didn't get it as completed, and Jack wasn't in the bar, either.

I did not need to lead the crew when I completed mine. Unsure as to why yours did not.

If you have the BB as an option to initiate, but you don't...

AND you engage in a Boss Battle with another player initiating it...

THEN it will credit the Boss Battle (assuming your crew wins) to you as completed.

SO if you want to win your OWN Boss Battle, don't attend anybody elses when you complete the Recover the Black Pearl quest--that is UNTIL to successfully win your own Boss Battle.

Hope that's the help you were looking for and it wasn't too convoluted.

EDIT: Of course, this could have changed with the latest updates--this is just the way it had been up to this point....

Ha, I don't blame you. That confused me too - could you try to explain it again Bart?

Ok... to clarify.

You do not have to be leader/captain of the crew to initiate the boss battle.

If you are at the "Play Boss Battle" stage, and you participate in SOMEONE ELSES Boss Battle, and they beat it, then your Boss Battle will be completed also.

I recommend, if you do not want to take the chance of completing your boss battle while participating in someone elses, do NOT do the final step of visiting "Joshamee Gibbs" until you are ready to do your own boss battle.

You can now redo the Boss Battle, so its not as big a deal, but still is to some of us.

If you start the BB as in send out the invite and win boss battle then you finish the Black Pearl quest. If you already won it and do it again the same way you won't get credit.

This aspect of the boss battle SUCKS. I had no idea that, as someone who still had the BB to do, I should avoid everyone else's boss battle. Went to help a friend with his, and ended it to find out that I had just completed mine!

It was the last thing I had left to do as a high level pirate. I was waiting until I could get the whole core of my guildmates and friends together to do mine. I lost out on the fun and fanfare of completing it, and have nothing left to finish except those useless SvS quests. Oh, and endless, endless grinding at weapon levels.

Thanks, Disney! Could you fix this, so it doesn't happen to others in the future? Or at least post a warning in the quest log, so we know not to do that? Because it BITES.

anndreeuhh 11-18-2008 10:34 PM

Disney does need to fix that, a few friends of mine had the same thing happen to them. I know they sent a few complaint letters to D but seems they haven't payed any attention to that.

my friend and i just beat it but we didnt get anything. he initiated is and he didnt get credit. this i s lame

Poison elf 11-25-2008 09:52 PM

There has been actually two problems like this I have always felt a problem.

As stated here going on another crew/players boss and it being completed.

Also a player dieing (generally first soldiers part) and others taking the ship on through completing his quest.

Only time I have seen some not get credit was some of the early players that got in a loop-hole that wouldn't give them credit after the updated bb came back out.

This has been happening a lot lately. I think it may be a new glitch.
A guildie and several friends have had to re-do their boss battles multiple times because it did not credit them. With the guildie, we tried it with her initiating it, even with her sailing it, even though that had never been important before. It took her 6 times. The time she beat it, I was head of the crew, I initiated it, and I sailed, so no, none of that appeared to have mattered.

And while I didn't mind doing it over & over, it was very frustrating for her!

So, no, usually it does not matter, but it seems that the game is not always giving credit for boss battles at the moment.

Jack Sparrow wasn't at the bar? Yikes.

Katana 11-30-2008 04:45 PM

i did it....i initiated the boss battle myself...and when done it said go see jack but he was not there and my quest journal did not update.... i then tried (unsuccesfully) several more times. Finally joined a good crew...we beat it and i was able to go see jack to complete it....you dont have to be the one initiating it but just know it's not only you it's happening to.

Katana 11-30-2008 04:49 PM

also, does anyone know...is there no more quests? the only quest i have is the french/spanish stuff which for me is near impossible cos there's never anyone flying their flags....i can't play on these nearly full servers cos the lag is way too bad.

At this point there aren't any new story quests. Also try asking a friend to have his/her ship sailing for the other side and to let you sink it until you get what you need.

Hope that made sense lol
