Server Down?
Anyone else having trouble logging on tonight?
|
Shut down for maintenance
|
Does it need maintenance?
|
Yes, it does.

can anyone get back on? mine closes abnormally after i try to log on
|
Try restarting your client. If that doesn't work, try rebooting your computer.
|
 i guess i'm having the same problem. i was playing earlier tonight before the maintenance shut down...play was choppy at best with frequent crashes...NOW after the game launch when the black connect screen comes up i get a microsoft msg from POTC saying pirates of the caribbean has enncountered a problem and will now shut down. ??? now what? i already tried reboot and same thing happens. 1073741819 Game closed abnormally!! ARG this is frustrating!
|
I am having the exact same issue and error code. I have been able to play no problem until this last update. I just tried to play on my laptop and I can play it there, but it doesn't work as well as this used to, so something changed. Could it be DirectX related?
|
I only encountered the "game closed abnormally" problem once. After that, I've been able to connect without any problems. I don't know if the problem is DirectX related, but I'm sure it's update related if you've been able to play no problem until this last update. It's possible that the update corrupted a file so I suggest reinstalling the game.

after a ... Game closed abnormally I reinstalated the game and then I got a little movie while it was loging in, but I was also showing the third movie trial and the movie had sound, so I closed the game and now it's logging in again but without that little movie. and it's slow...
edit: it gives an error everytime i logging again... |
Well we're out too. We have 3 computers and since last night we cannot get in on any of them. Uninstalled/reinstalled game, redownloaded directx 9, still get a windows error when it tries to open the game window (after launcher window closes.) Very disappointing, hope they figure this out.
|
As of 11:45 EDT server is up and running rather well so far.
|
I have tried logging on, but it goes right to a Microsoft error, and closes it down. Hope to sail sometime today!
|
I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice and still get the same error. I can play it on my laptop, however, but it doesn't work as well. Aaargh!
|
Ahoy, Jane!
Could it be my computer that causes the Microsoft error? I have done what you have done. Could it be the server? I am not a computer whiz, lol.
|
I wish I knew. Something with the latest update caused the problem, I just don't know how to fix it. The laptop is Vista, I don't know if that has anything to do with it. Help, I need my daily pirate fix.
|
Pirate Fix
Ah, matey, my fingers are itching to run Molly along the beach, fire cannons, and maybe play some poker! Guess I better go to the farmers' market, and maybe do some chores. I am feeling the need for some grog!
|
I uninstalated the game and instalated it again. and now i have the same ''little movie'' while verifying/loading/etc. all the things. I think it will work now... I hope it, lol
Edit: when i said this, it was at begin of loading Phase2, now it's still loading and at phase 3 95% (it's 20:02 now) |
I dont think it's vista, that's what I use and I'm having no problems logging on.
|
He is saying he CAN play with Vista.
Still loading here -.- Phase 5 91% Edit: ofcourse!!! after waiting 50 minutes loading it Chrashes!! |

I'm getting the microsoft error too. I have been trying to play all morning yet still it fails.

It is not working for me for about 3 weeks, still not getting into the game and nobody cares or is helping one bit. I guess I will have to wait a couple years to buy a super computer or find someone who will let me use theirs. I so was looking forward to this game. This game must not be that good if they do not care that people cannot get in especially people like me who are willing to pay to play.
Like VMK I will sit on the outside sad and upset while everyone else plays the really fun stuff. |
Aye, well at least 'Vista is workin' with somthin' for once, Gar, Where can I find a bottle o'rum?
|
Don't lose hope!
This is beta, so there are bound to be lots of problems. Keep sending in bug reports. The intention is to have a game that lots of people can play on non-super computers. Something went haywire in the maintenance last night. Once it is fixed, it may fix all problems, and you will be able to get on. We all have to be positive! I am looking for the bottle of grog, too!
|
Ahoy, ne'er lose hope, shiver me timbers!
|
Microsoft error for me now too. It was working fine until I tried to log in this morning.
I try logging in everyonce in a while, and keep sending in those bug reports. :( |
you and me both Lady_Red - microsoft error so it has to be them and not our computers - ARRGGHH - I told them in my last bug report (9th or 10th) that I wasn't going to send anymore until I could get online - I have gotten tired of saying the same thing :(
|
Arg ,mateys! Aye, it was doing the same thing at my pirate retreat. Except we be having two accounts and the first mate's account would work and the Captain's account (mine) would not! Fine kettle of fish! Even though the first mate's worked, the map was pixelated and half of the ships were missing. Some ships were missing entirely with only their names floating around! Now that be making it very hard to get some cannon points! Anyway, hope they be getting it all worked out soon as I need to be finding those silver tongs! Any volunteers to help?
|

Yes....if I can ever get on. Of course I would tell you my pirates name but uh....Im brain dead at the moment. I have had to create so many pirates to start over again I cant remember her name. I CAN tell you they ALL start with SEA....D'OH |

 i'm still on the same boat as many as me mates be......do you think this windows error report is for the "unlimited access" players only? Are they knocking us all down to "limited access" when the game officially opens? why do you think some ppl can get in and some can't? i don't get it! like they get you hooked on this game and then take it away? thats messed up if that's the reasoning behind this "new update"

Just logged off my limited account. After playing well over 2 hours the game ran fine with a few drops, maybe 3 or 4. Still unable to log on my unlimited account. |

I can't get that fileplantet thing... I log in with free user and it says I need to be subscriber. but i have to pay for that, and i'm not paying for an extra account at potco.
|
so, is everybody else able to get on tonight? Am I the only one who still can't? I'm starting to take it personal
|
Server down?
Unfortunately I cant get on either and there are others as well. This is getting beyond frustrating. Im starting to have withdrawls. How sad is that lol.
|
You and me both - so sad - used to fall asleep with the music playing in my head... maybe they are telling me to get a life (which I have but this is such sweet escape!!) LOL
|
Looks like we're all in the same boat ( or wish we were anyway!). Here's hoping to see everyone soon, I miss you all

Well yesterday was day 3 for me not able to get on. I still keep getting the send error report to Microsoft. I'm now sending bug reports to Disney starting with the number of days in a row that I can't get on. You gota wonder, with all the bug reports they must be getting, just how long it is taking them to the ones we are sending in.
|
:( many threads on the same subject...NO ACCESS basically. It would be nice if someone from POTCO read these posts and could see how frustrated we pirates Really are!!!

As far as I know, both of our accounts are full access. At least that is what it says at the top. Not really sure what you mean by AD's only (Freebooter) and non AD's. We got our two accounts because we both registered for beta. Off topic here, but can anyone tell me how to put the game on another computer in our home? I trying just going from the link in the e-mails that we were sent, however, it says account already being used. I really would like to try the game on our faster computer. See you in port! |

On the VMK thing, if you go to "contact us" as a parent, they might let you know what happened. But I do know, sometimes when people have used contact us to ask about a ban, or to say sorry, they received an automatic 10 year extension.
|
Quote:
That is what im afraid of. I have sent messages and I actually did get a reply on both. I sent one from my character and one from my daughters as the parent. They said that I was frozen because of something she did and that it was against their policy to say what she did wrong. (I would really like to know if she needs to be punished for what she did. For all I know it could have been something someone else did and she was just in the wrong place at the wrong time) And on her account they said they couldnt tell me anything because they had no way of knowing if I was really the parent or not. I am really afraid that they are going to extend it for the 10 years. sigh. We have made numerous trips to Disneyland, made numerous purchases there, bought hundreds of dollars worth of movies to get movie rewards and such. We are the types of people that VMK is marketing to . I have more than 10 completely decorated rooms with rare items in them. I dont even talk to anyone when im on the game. I dont trade, I dont go into any rooms but host rooms at all. Ok I take that back I do talk to people when im in a game and they dont know how to play. Or if someone asks how to get somewhere or something. I try to be helpful. sigh...And so now I cant get on this game either....sniff sniff. |
Down for maintenance this morn. Keep your fingers crossed....Hope to see everyone back on the high seas
|
I smell a server wipe coming very soon...
Time to clean up the servers and give it one last run before launch. |

1. Go here: https://apps.pirates.go.com/pirates/ 2. Click "Log In". 3. Log in with your beta username and password. 4. Click the "Play" button on the top right. On mine it was bright red. It will give you the page with the install link. |
I got this today from Pirates Online when I reported the Microsoft error (i also posted this reply in another thread):
Thank you for reporting a problem. Pirates of the Caribbean Online uses DirectX 9 as the default API to render graphics. If the version installed on your computer from your video card manufacturer is unsupported or corrupted, Pirates Online will then use an older version of DirectX. However, for better 3-D game display, you will want to update DirectX from Microsoft’s website. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en If you still experience display issues within the game, try changing the Graphic settings under the Options control panel. Be sure to click Save before you close the Options screen. Graphic settings that can be changed: Reflection •Off •Sky Only •On Shader Level 4 (requires a restart) •Off •On Shadows •Simple •Rendered Texture Detail Level (requires a restart) •Low •Medium •High •Maximum •Compressed Note: both Shader Level 4 and Texture Detail Level require a restart of the game in order for the changes to take effect. Thanks again for your email and we look forward to seeing you soon in Pirates of the Caribbean Online. |
Fellow Frustrated Pirates, I decided to change my video graphics card to see if that was the problem, and indeed it was. I'm only a basic computer user, but I was able to install a new graphics card with 256MBDDR2 and now I can play POTCO on my HP XP desktop again.
|
I'm starting to think it's personal - although I have reported microsoft error messages several times a day this is what my one and only email from them (dated yesterday) says:
"Hi, Thank you for contacting Pirates of the Caribbean Online. Please do not reply to this message, as it is not an unmonitored e-mail address. If you are trying to unsubscribe from one of our mailing lists, please follow the directions at the bottom of the e-mail you received. This will ensure that your request is handled correctly and as quickly as possible. For the latest news, check out our official web site at: http://disney.go.com/pirates/online/index.html Regards, Pirates of the Caribbean Online" I wasn't trying to unsubscribe, all I was doing was reporting a bug - oh, and if I was trying to unsubscribe, there was nothing under the signature  - I just want to play the game - btw - thanks for posting what they sent you - I did update my direct X but nothing changed - and can't even get to the options menu - dumb mircrosoft error message  |
:( WoW Ms.!! i got that same exact email yesterday also and was thinking...WTH? i didnt try to unsubscribe from disney games or any mailing list! I have also done everything you have that was advised to do...directx update...driver update for ATI Radeon hardware for my pc and it still happens!! i get the Microsoft error every time!! so don't take it personally....there are probably many many pirates out there that are in our same boat that aren't forum members that we know about so i guess we'll just have to wait for the next big update or public launch to see if we're in or out......it's been 8 days since we got cut so how ya doing? i'm frustrated no doubt but i've come to accept my fate and walked the plank...swimming in seas unknown at this point...lol

I got the same message in responce to a bug report. Guess the old canned message got plumwore out from over use. |

Sorry for the double post but I got another email which I found really irritating.
First, here is what is on the front/opening page of the POTC website for Specs: " Windows 2000/XP Pentium 3 800Mhz processor (P4 1Ghz rec.) 256 MB RAM (512 recommended) 400 MB disk space available 32MB graphics card (64 MB recommended) DirectX 9 or better Broadband internet connection" BUT here is what I got in an email: "Thank you for contacting Pirates of the Caribbean Online. The log files in your bug report indicate that your computer does not meet Pirates Online minimum system requirements, listed below: The current minimum requirement for Pirates Online Beta: Windows 2000, XP or Vista Pentium 4 2.0GHz or faster 1GB of RAM 128MB video card DirectX9 or better If you feel your computer meets the requirements listed above, and you received this message in error, please report a bug using our Report Bug web page: https://apps.pirates.go.com/pirates/support/feedback Thanks again for your email and we look forward to seeing you soon in Pirates of the Caribbean online." SO, obviously they cannot appeal to anything other than newer computers - which is sad - my computer isn't even a year old and I'm not finished paying for it yet! Only thing I'm lacking is the Pentium 4 - - mine is only a 3  |
How do I find out what version of DirectX I am using? I can't seem to find it anywhere:(
|
Not being a computer geek by any means, I just went to DirectX 9.0 site and hit download or update - seems I already had it because it went to "finish" almost immediately - if you google DirectX 9.0, you should get the website with no trouble. Best of luck to you - now I can't even login :(

Right there with you Moofers, did the exact same thing and the exact same thing happened.
I don't even understand why I can't even get in because I probably have most of what they said in that email. The RAM or MB may be a bit off, but not by much. Hopefully they fix this bug this week. |
I wasn't able to get in until I put in a new graphics card. Not sure what I had before, but it must have been the problem because I can now get in the game. I got a 256MB. I have much less lag, the graphics are good, basically everything runs much better. It was about $130 and pretty easy to install. Good luck
|
So, just to show how much I DON'T know about computers, I thought I had a Pentium 3 - well, I dragged my computer to Best Buy this morning with the specs they sent me and guess what? I don't have a pentium at all - I have in Ingtel Centrino Duo - which they told me was a dual processor and much faster than the Pentium 4 - go figure! They also told me all my other componets were faster/higher than they required... so, why can't I get on? They think maybe their server doesn't recognize my dual processor - so now I need to fill out another bug report and tell them to make some more adjustments - Anyway, I wanted to share this in case others also had a dual processor - oh, and Best Buy didn't charge me anything :)
|
I also have a Duel processor CPU. AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual-Core 4400
I have no problems playing, just the normal server lag. How much Ram do you have? |
I am running Dual processors as well and am able to play. Running Pentium 5 2.66GHz & 2.67 GHz with 1 Gig of ram with Windows XP media edition and a GeForce 7300 GS video card. Everything seems to be working properly. I have tried to install DirectX 9 - but I think I already have it. Also have cable connection. My biggest problem playing the game is long periods of freeze time. Still can't figure that out. Anyone have any suggestions? I have the latest video card drivers.
|
I really think the long freeze is server related. I know some of the other beta's I've been in they run software in the backgound that adds more stress to the server so that they can see how well the server can handle it. The server could also be in debug mode which can add stress.
|
did you install the directx file you downloaded? the download should be fast cuz its small file.
-- to check directx, run a directx diagnostic go to START>RUN type in "dxdiag" click "ok" should say "system information" at bottom needs to say "directX 9.0...." mine says "directX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)" --alot of betas will ask for a copy of the dxdiag file, disney doesnt because if you use the "bugreport" file (located in the PiratesOnline folder), it sends a copy of the game log files, u can read this info too in the PiratesOnline folder, files called "launcher-(numbers)" open the most recent one. this will list your hardware, windows version, dx info, between the start of the file, and "trying to start spash and sefl path" |
Ya'll know way more about computers than I do - all I know is they told me I meet the specs, and then some, layed out in the email I got - no clue how many gigs or ghz or whatever ;) just know they had no reason to lie because I would have paid to update (yes, I'm desperate). My poor neice who also played on my account is going bonkers!

Thank you for your e-mail. We are sorry you are having problems playing Pirates Online. Currently we are continuing to make changes and updates to the game and sometimes this will affect your game play. Currently your graphics card is not functioning with Pirates Online. We are working to resolve this issue and apologize for the inconvenience. Does this sound promising and anyone else get any specifics to their problems in beta support emails? I MISS POTC ARRRRGGG :( |
I also got a similar email, so I think they're really working on these problems. Hope everyone hangs in there and we're all back together soon...
Thank you for contacting Pirates of the Caribbean Online. Please know the Pirates Online team is currently looking into this issue. All players will receive a fix to this problem in an upcoming patch, which will be automatically downloaded and installed when released. We appreciate your help and patience in resolving this problem and hope you continue to enjoy your time spent in Pirates Online. Thanks again for your email and we look forward to seeing you soon in Pirates of the Caribbean online. |
Boy, it's comforting to know someone is getting a response from all the bug reports they send in. With all the dozens of reports I've sent in, I have yet to get a reply. I'm going on almost 2 weeks of not being able to log in. I'm not going to go out and buy a new graphics card just to play one game. Especially when I was able to play before.

"Thank you for your recent bug report. Pirates Online utilizes the latest 3-D features of current video cards. It's helpful to stay up to date with your video card's latest software drivers. Have you recently applied the Windows Update "Intel Corporation - Video - Intel 82945G Express Chipset Family"? If so, please revert back to the one provided by Intel or an updated Intel manufactured version (Intel's Mobile Intel(R) 945GM Express Chipset Family), as there may be issues with the Intel driver provided by Windows. You will have to manually uninstall the Microsoft's updated version as opposed to installing the new driver over the old version. For assistance with this procedure, you may have to contact your computer or video card manufacturer. Thanks again for your email and we look forward to seeing you soon in Pirates of the Caribbean online." So I went back to Best Buy this morning to have them do the computer stuff - Lord knows I'd mess something up! Tried reverting back - same microsoft error message - then they manually uninstalled it and installed the newest version (only one update since my computer is pretty new) and still no luck - so hopefully they will send me some other suggestion to try although the geek squad seems to think it's on their end. At any rate, I did finally get a personal type response which I was very happy with (even though it didn't work) |
The Intel series graphics are extremely weak compared to standard graphic cards from Nvidia or ATI. The i945 series is designed with business apps in mind and simple game play. The i945 also shares your system memory which makes it very slow as well and at the same time robs your system of needed memory to run the game better. My advise to you is to buy a 7000 series or higher Nvidia card or a X series ATI card. Ask the geek squad to ensure your system has the proper slot for the card. It will solve a lot of problems and make your system compatible with 99.9% of everything out there. Good luck...
JoG |
Wow - thanks JoG! I'm going to have to print that out and take it with me - unforunately, can't do it until this weekend and it will most likely take them a week to do it but that is much better information than I have gotten before... What is kind of irritating is when I bought this computer I told the salesperson it would be mostly used for playing games!!! Oh Well!
|
:) i gotta dell inspiron notebook 600m, got it in feb 2006 with a ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 graphic card. From what i have read about it online it seems like it really should be enough to handle this game....It DID work up until the dreaded May18th update! Yet, maybe it's antiquated now in 2007 to work with the likes of potc? i seen somewhere the release date for this card was in 2002! blimey!! :o
Beta support says "Currently your graphics card is not functioning with Pirates Online. We are working to resolve this issue and apologize for the inconvenience." does that mean it might work ok again in the near future? But i have a feeling it might be more......like i cheaped out and got the Intel Celeron processor when everyone knows Pentium is the way to go...but then again, i wasn't even into gaming when i bought this laptop! Who Knew? lol Well, thats my feelings for the day. Hang in there and hopefully on the next tide they will get us marooned pirates back into port again ...To all pirates that were able to get onboard, Plunder On! monkeefriend aka Grace Squidvane |
Alas - all is lost for me :( guess I never mentioned I'm on a laptop - the geek squad guy almost laughed at me (been in there 3 days in a row) and told me if I had mentioned that then nobody would have suggested I upgrade because I can't on a laptop - I sure don't know anything about computers! so who knows when I'll be abl to swing my sword again... it's really kinda sad - I sent them a long email quoting all the places on their website that said they were gearing it for slower/older type computers - and asking why they keep making the requirements more stringent (I do understand why they have to but I was playing devil's advocate) - the orginal requirements they sent in their first email to me were much, much lower - the ones on the game website have been updated to show recommended requirements now - it's just a shame that people like me, who want to play won't be able to unless they do something on their end. Oh well, thanks for trying to help JoG - do appreciate it!
