Dueces Wild Scavenger Hunt
Start planning and scheming for the first Dueces Wild Scavenger Hunt!
This event is for Dueces Wild Guild members only. The Hunt will be held on Wednesday, October 22. Rules for Scavenger Hunt Teams: Each team/crew must consist of 4 pirates. In each team, there must be at least one pirate level 15 or less, and one pirate at least level 30 or higher. The other 2 pirates can be any level. Teams must be formed and registered here, by posting the team members names, prior to the posting of the Scavenger list. Chat: Each team should use crew chat for all in team discussions, and use guild chat to chide, mislead, and generally harrange other teams. The rules: 1) Absolutely NO glitching! Anyone caught glitching immediately gets their entire team disqualified. This includes "Flagging" or "ghosting" your ship! 2) Proof of accomplishments: For proof that a scavenge is completed, there must be a picture/screencopy of each accomplishment. To take a screenie, press the "F9" key. DO NOT press "F12" prior to taking the screenie, since this removes all the data that is on the screen. The data is an important part of proving the accomplishment. All 4 members of the crew/team must be visible in the picture. (For sea battles, I must see your ship and the enemy ship(s) in the pic, And, I must see the crew HUD displaying all 4 crew members names. I know this does not prove that all 4 members are on board, but this is to be taken as proof.) 3) The screencopies should be posted here on this thread No LATER Than, 1:00 AM Eastern the night of the Scavenger Hunt. Multiples posts are acceptable if needed. Posts should include the team/crew name, so that I can easily identify who is who. 4) The scavenger hunt will begin at the moment that the list is posted. Each team has until 1 AM Eastern to post their pics and answers to the quwstions. Any postings after 1 AM will not count as a completed task. 5) Each team must check in with the GM at least once per hour. This is accomplished by having all 4 members teleport to Purvis. Failure to check in as required will result in a docking of 15 points per missed check-in. RULE MODIFICATION #1::: The first check-in must occur between 9 PM and 10 PM Eastern time. Failure to check-in with the GM results in a minus 8 points for the first check-in period, and minus 15 points for each of the check-ins between 10/11 PM, and 11PM/12AM. 6) I will post the team scores the day after the Scavenger Hunt, (If I can.) This will allow me time to evaluate and score the results. 7) The GM is the scorekeeper. 8) The decisions of the GM are final. 9) The list will be posted here in this thread at approximately 8:00 PM, Eastern time, October 22. 10) Some of the items in the list do not require screenies, just answers to the questions. The answers must be included in your posting in order to get credit. 11) No swapping pirates during the course of the event. You must play with the pirate that is registered in your crew here in the thread. i.e., you cannot start out the event as Mary, and change to Sarah part way thru. Strategy: 1) The list will be very comprehensive, it is not expected that a team will complete the entire list. 2) Each team should evaluate the list and determine their best, and worst, skills as a group. 3) Work toward those skills. 4) If you are having troubles getting a high point task, pass on it and build on some of the low point ones, this contest is probably going to be won by only a few points. 5) Not all members of a team need be ingame for the duration of the Hunt, but all team members MUST BE included in each picture that is to be counted as a task completion. 6) It might be best to have only one team member take all the screenies, that way, only one has to post them here. 7) You can change servers all you want, but Purvis will be on PDF on a quiet server when he logs in. 8) Allow time to post the results!! Prizes 1) 5K in gold to each member of the winning team. 2) Bragging rights! 3) The ability to berate the losing teams. Register your team Over the next weeks, discuss it over with your friends and guildmates. Form your team, and register by posting your crew name and listing all four crew members here! I'll plan on signing up Anne (lev 40), as I have no Idea what level Mary will be in two weeks (lev 26 as of today). However, if we're running short on less than lev 15 pirates, I can use Elizabeth (lev 10 ish, and won't be playing her til Mary is finished)....hmmm, this could get a little confusing. Thoughs? |

Wheee! I can't wait! I have Mad Ange, who is lvl 30 (almost to 31, and may be higher than that before then) and Snape, who is lvl 2, but I'm gonna maybe work on him more over the coming days and weeks. This is gonna be a blast!

Believe it or not, I had thought about you two, and Arian, and our guildmates in Europe, when I posted this. Especially in regard to the day of the week, and the difference in time zones. I used your list to determine which time zone has the highest number of guildies, and also tried to put it in the middle of the spectrum for all the others. I picked a Wednesday, cause it's the middle of the work week, and did not pick the weekend for obvious reasons. (RUUUUUUUMMMMMM!) A couple of other responses to your post; 1) I would have no way of knowing if you, or anyone else, were playing multiple pirates at once. I feel it would be..... improper.... for someone to be playing 2 or more pirates, but at the same time, if someone is capable of doing so, I admire their hand-eye dexterity. Having done it myself a time or two, (or 3) it can be complicated. 2) Are you sure you and Blue, or Mysty and Lew, should be in the same crew? I would think that part of the thrill of victory would be rubbing his (her) face in it when they lose! LOL 3) Your question was valid, even though you have no idea of the scoring system that I am putting in place. I am willing to concede that checking-in is going to be hard for some, but, after reviewing the proposed scoring, I can actually forsee a team deliberately taking the penalty, if they are involved in other tasks at the time they should be checking-in. Also, I would never make the failure to check-in be a large enough factor that it could not be overcome in other facets of the game. 4) All that being said, I made a small modification to the rules!!!! Please see the original posting, as I modified rules number 5 and 6. 5) Thank-you for your nice words. You are right, I have tried to put a lot of thought into this, and although it may not be perfect for everyone, I have tried to make it as encompassing as possible. The goal here is that everyone has a good time! ONE LAST THING FOR EVERYONE: Although having a high level pirate on the team is required, and I admit a staff and War Galleon or Frigate MAY come in handy, you all know that I have a devious mind! I deliberately required a level 15 or less to be a member of each crew, and I deliberately am assigning a quest (or 10) that cannot be accomplished by your average level 35 pirate!!!! Think about it! I said to plan and scheme! Besides, what level 40 pirate needs the 5K in gold for winning? Now, that is the last bit of advice that I am giving! Other comments or suggestions are always welcome, from all!!! (But I don't think anyone is going to get me to change the rules, or the quests, too much!) |

I'd love to give this a try. I just don't want to hold back a team with my computer's lag. If someone needs an extra pirate on thier team and can't find anyone, just call on me.
I did have a question about the checking in once an hour deal. Does the entire team have to be in PDF at the same time? If so, this may put some people at a disadvantage due to the numerous times certain people are disconnected when teleporting around and boarding/unboarding ships. My computer sometime crashes out for 10 minutes or more before I can actually get a pirate on the ground. In any case, I'll go with any desperate team that will put up with my computer. I think it's the only way we can get a proper sign up sheet made. I'm proposing that anytimne you're in game and you see a guildie that you know hasn't signed up here, break out your cutlass til they do. ;) But seriously, let's get the word out about the hunt, and POF, so we can all be on the same page with this. Purv will be ingame the duration of the contest. The intent here is that everyone has a good time, and to vary our normal routine of plundering. To do something different! Being the wise and benevolent leader that I am, (Tandy's words,) I wouldn't set up any rule that I can't override! See rules #7, and 8. If I see that our resident Booty king and or queen are having major problems, or if I detect other situations arising that I havent allocated for already, I can/will modify the rule(s) on the fly. I will not be doing anything other than monitoring the game, (and drinking the rum that the smart teams are dropping off to me when they check-in,) so I will be watching chat. I will know if there is anyone having disco or other problems, and I will compensate for it. The check-in rule stands as it is currently written, the team must check-in once between 9 and 10 PM, once between 10 and 11 PM and once between 11 and 12PM, or points will be docked. To comment on a few other posts: Sarah is right, we need to get our other guildmates to register and visit here more often. Talk it up and POF in general, ingame. We have over 115 pirates inguild, but only about 35 actively visit here on POF, (or are registered in our guild here.) NEXT, To answer a few other questions: I will update the original posting with team names and pirate assignments as they are posted here. As of right now, there are 2 crews posted, but neither has a name, and I have listed them in the start of the thread. I will also update that posting with a listing of all the pirates that have registered as available, but have not registered as being part of a crew yet. So there is an easy place to go see who would like to play, but hasn't crewed up yet. I would really like to see at least 6 crews here. We have about 115 in the guild, and even allowing for those of us who have multiples, we have about 60 players, I think 6, or 8 teams, can be done. I just think it's gonna be insane watching all the guild running around the Caribbean trying to find the house with the blue door! |
Cool....I just noticed one of suggestions states that you can switch servers all you want, so that would probably help with my computer's lag a ton. I don't tend to have lag issues or disconnects on the slow servers.
One more question: If I have a baby pirate in my own personal guild (because I wanted a certain title to display under her name) would I be able to use her as the under 15 pirate in a group or does the pirate itself need to be in Dueces Wild? I'm thinking the latter.... |

Ok, 1 week to go til the Hunt. I have the Scavenge list about completed, and am working on a spreadsheet fot scoring the results. We have 3 crews registered, and about 9 people on the list who want to crew up. Those who are on the list should make arrangements, I really don;t want to assign the crews.

Two days to go til the Scavenger Hunt.
We have 5 crews set-up, although The Lost and Confused, (Kelly, Jade, and Rune) are still missing a crewmate, and there are enough people to make a sixth crew, but they are lacking a pirate less than level 15. I need to get some of this finalized today and tomorrow, please! I have a spreadsheet made to help me keep score, and would like to have it up to date before the start of the Hunt. A couple other items: I have invited The War Wenches Guild to enter a crew or two, if they can put it together. Those of you not familiar with taking screen shots, Press the "f9" key. That's all there is to it. IF you press "f12" first, then "f9" it takes one without the chat and other on screeen info, but I want the info up, so don't press "f12" for the screenies for the scavenger hunt. The screenies are stored on your computer: /program files/disney/disneyonline/piratesonline and they will be named by a date code. Posting them is another matter, so you need to be familiar with how to post screen shots here. To print the instructions, or the Scav Hunt task list: View it here, highlight and copy it, then paste it into another program such as word, wordpad, or even notepad. I print things from here that way, and I use wordapad, because it gives me an RTF, and that can be opened in other formats as well. |

Don't forget the rules of the Scavenger Hunt. Random teleporting guidelines are suspended. Teleport at will. Purv may teleport to any crew at any time. Sections 1, 2 , 3, and 4 require screenies and all crew members must be there. Section 5 is questions that you must answer, you can split up, or do these at time periods when not all crew members are available. Don't forget, any posting of answers or screenies that are made AFTER 1AM Eastern do not count! I thought that I had put a lot of time and effort into making this happen. I never realized that the hardest part would be AFTER the event, trying to score it! I apologize everyone, but it will probably be a couple of days till I get the final tally and can announce the winners. Am working on it tho. Things I learned: I deliberately made the list oversized, thought that it would give people the opportunity to chose which objectives to go after. Instead, Everyone tried to do the entire list! The time period was too long,,5 hours is a long time to try to keep track of everyone and everything. You guys and girls, ROCK!!! Even though I didn't do anything other than keep track of all of you for 5 hours, I had a ball. I tried to level staff or another weapon, thinking I would have some downtime, but never really got the chance. You kept me busy the entire time. Thank-you all for everything you said and have posted in the other thread. I will plan another one of these, but will do it even better, now that I know the quirks and how to run an on-line scavenger hunt. A few small items that I can say, even tho the scoring isn't done yet: As far as I can tell, TOES was the only group that remembered that "Jack" is the monkeys name! The Drunken Pirates, "stumbled" on Lars before the second clue was even given, and was the first group to find him. Good eyes Rachel. Every Crew got more done than I had thought you would. (This is part of the reason that scoring is so time consuming.) If nothing else, this was a great way to get a few more people into the headset experience. I tried to get people to use them in the old TEC, and had a hard time doing so. If you all think headsets are something you would like to do more often, I may break out my Ventrilo server again. Although, YIM voice chat seemed to work for almost everyone. Lastly, I wonder who the Mods were here on POF when all of a sudden hundreds of screenshots were being posted? To them, Thank-you for your work! |

Yes, the HUNT was definitly alot of fun. Our team did well and next time, I know how to approach an online hunt.

WEll, you can put me in that catagory! After I posted the results, I went back and rechecked almost every single screenie one last time. In case not everyone realized, because a few had problems posting their screenies, not all of them are here, and you have to follow links to get to them. And 4 of a Kinds are posted outgame, so unless Reaver posts the link here, none of you will get to see all the great land pics that they were able to capture.
Reaver, would you please post that link, so that the curious can see the screenies that your crew took? (OBTW, welcome back!) To top off my OCDness, I'm already thinking about how to better organize, and I've already got 4 things on the llist for the next hunt! |
