Guilds & Their Web sites

Ya know just for the fun of it I thought I would ask something

but What is the point of Guild Web sites and Forums?
I mean you cant tell people how to get to them in game because you get into trouble!

How are you guys in other guilds doing these things

I mean how are people in game saying hey buddy welcome to the guild here is our web site!

etc..

Because LOL just tonight I got a 24 hr ban for giving a URL out for our guild!
I dont want that to happen again but we also need a way to share the website info LOL

any crafty ideas?

swashbuckler II 09-30-2008 12:59 PM

There are several ways
You can risk the ban
Lead them to POF and tell them on here.
or you can say it in bits like
www
dot
Piratesonlineforums
dot
com

Hope this helped

Dr. Zeppers 09-30-2008 03:06 PM

I have done it like so...

pirates
online
forums
com plunder with us!!!

or

subdomain.
maindomain.
com plunder with us!

The main trick is to not draw attention :)

Andrew 09-30-2008 03:59 PM

yea, like when I give away the PIC site I do it like this:
pic
.
smfforfree4
.
c
o
m
Follow these examples, as long as theyre not inappropriate sites, you wont get in any trouble

Swash 09-30-2008 08:18 PM

Pirates Online Forums dot come you cant use www or com unless ye have the plus off heres how I do it no plus sign www.piratesonlineforums.com heh heh.

Chris 09-30-2008 08:26 PM

I usually say

Go on Google and search Pirates Online Forums and click the first link.

SangrelX 09-30-2008 08:51 PM

Those are all excellent tips

however those are exactly what i did down to zeppers using com plunder with us etc..
and thats how I got in trouble!!

Also to Swash - it wont let you type anything www or .com, .org, etc. now even with Plus sign off

and also -- even when you type words that dont get shown to the public because they were filtered out
those filtered words are still in the chat logs that disney reads

so its hard to tell how disney catches us giving urls out?
are they using search on the chat logs and searching for WWW, or .COM, .ORG, etc.?

I use a totally unusual domain name to attempt to keep them from seeing us - I use .TK
and usually I say
goto
www
DOT
HangmansJoy
DOT
TK

------- it didnt work lol - i got 24 hr ban!
I was using Guild chat as well -- perhaps I drew too much attention to my saying in the Chat Logs ? who knows

Tommy Two Times 09-30-2008 09:24 PM

here are a couple things we do in our guild to direct ppl to it, first we never try www or dot in any of our explination because everyone should know that the address begins with www and will have a dot in it. second our domain is the name of our guild so we just say type in the guild name at net, we figured getting a net would be better as nets are things pirates would use :) . just remember as someone earlier said, its about not drawing attention to yourself and typing www and dot are defiatly ways to draw attention. hope that heps some

SangrelX 09-30-2008 10:24 PM

I think ill attempt to use some of the idea's tommy posted such as wording it into a sentence without using DOT or any WWW etc..

icemage 09-30-2008 11:47 PM

What about sites like ibfree or frewebs or smfforfree? Those may attract attention

Sarah 10-01-2008 01:07 AM

Best i can tell you is to break up your chat.

I b
free

I understand why the big D has these filters in place, but it really does make it hard for pirates just trying to get their guild or friends together. Best of luck ;)

Bartholomew Foulsteel 10-01-2008 02:53 AM

I would recommend checking your website--Big D doesn't seem to have problems with guild sites--AS LONG AS THERE IS NO INFORMATION THAT VIOLATES DISNEY POLICIES.

So, I would recommend making your website Disney friendly (no emails, no ages, real names, etc.) and I doubt you'll have any more problems.

SangrelX 10-01-2008 04:01 AM

well technically any website that has a forum is a violation of their policies

because their policy states that any sites that support social networking are in violation

well sheesh thats any site period that allows a user to post information!

Direct Quote from Big D

Quote:

As outlined in section 5 of our Netiquette House Rules page, this
includes information like phone numbers, screen or user names (including
Voice Over Internet Programs (VOIPs)), addresses, e-mail addresses,
Social Security numbers, passwords, or any other private information. In
addition, any discussion of Web addresses or social networking Web sites
where personal information is or can be posted or exchanged are not
allowed.
So basically we are all a bunch of rule breaking pirates!! ARRRRRRRRR

And heck DISNEY has Forums of their own so they break their own rules because lol any disney user could post their personal info - a mod would just have to remove it!

Dr. Zeppers 10-01-2008 05:52 AM

It may be that "TK" that is giving you away.

Thier search engine would have to be more lenient with com/net probably even org as they are common parts of words. However "TK" is not a common combination of letters.

I do tell people to go to pirates online forums all the time.
However I never give the 'url'.
I tell them to do a search, they'll find it, comes up first everytime for me anyhow. ;)
If asked what they should search for, i just repeate pirates online forums

Unfortunately that doesnt work for guild sites.

SangrelX 10-01-2008 06:21 AM

oddly enough if u search HangmansJoy in Google

our Guild Site comes up number 1 on results LOL
I didnt expect that but it does

maybe in game I can just say google HangmansJoy

of course it also seems to find some rather interesting results LOL

Poison elf 10-14-2008 03:13 PM

Truthfully this has been a real grey area with Disney, at one time telling you can give the site out, then next day saying no.. Basically I would make a free account and go to the extra effort of logging that on to give out a guild forum.

Many times its someone in the guild that can make this a big mess, repot long used names, report web sites, and such things that got mad over something.

Dr. Zeppers 10-14-2008 05:41 PM

The primary issue for them is likely they cannot control the content of any site being passed along by the members. Being that they do not want inappropriate content to be linked to them in any fashion, they are leary about it. They may for example somewhat look the other way seeing a known site such as POF, and knowing the management and how content is reviewed constantly and monitored to be kept family safe. I actually never give POF's url out to anyone i just say search for Pirates Online Forums, it always works. As for guild site, well, might be a good idea to channel your guild through POF for example, helps to communicate better without being banned. However keep in mind we have similarly strict rules about Personal Information as well.
