Maitenence

Yeah, Some like it, some hate it,
How do you feel about it?
It rips me away from computer but how do you feel about maitenence?

Stormhawk 09-27-2008 07:34 AM

I like and I dont like it. I like it because I know the next day or whenever maitenence is over there will be a new update or fixed bug or fixed glitch in the game. I don't like it because it cuts down my pirate's playing time whenever they decide to do it.:)

Honestly, it just always seemed like a strange thing to do on friday/saturday nights.

During the week I can understand, but the weekends, you'd think these would be the times to leave things up. Now perhaps they have to prepare for the double rep event also though.

Double Rep, St Patty's day, 2XP, Fathers Day, Half Off, Double Gold, and the rest of the events that we have had so far, are still in the game - they are turned on and off via the admins so they dont require an update

-- as for this round of mait. I hope they fixed some things & I hope they did some updates!!

But who knows - dont reckon the Double Rep matters much to me this weekend cuz well ill be at work the entire time its happening!!!! :degen::pirate2:

CaptainGreeenee 09-27-2008 09:10 PM

I dont really like it, one because i love the glitches :)
two it gets me away from playing, and i got a limited amount of playing time
three they never fix the big important things that really need fixing.

Nikki 09-27-2008 09:40 PM

Well I dont mind it to much as long as it isnt to long, because I know that it is neccessary to improve the game by fixing things, cleaning the servers, doing updates and things such as that. Plus it is the only time my husband gets to see me, and it gives him a little time to try and remember who I am. :piratetongueor4:

Well I would much rather have them do it when people dont play much. What do they do during maintenance anyway?

Sarah 09-29-2008 03:46 PM

They're not really doing any maintenance, the Disney staff are actually shutting things down so they can play some foosball in the breakroom ;)

You sure its not Tinkerbell reseting her iPod?

Chris 09-29-2008 08:46 PM

I personally LOVE matinence! As long as it is done in the wee hours of the morning or for a few mintues at a time i love it!

When they do that they are re-setting the servers so alot of lag goes away bugged enemies are mostly fixed and so forth as long as it doesnt happen like 5 times a day im fine with it.

Andrew 09-29-2008 09:16 PM

Its been a while since ive been kicked off the game for maintenance.
All I remember is seeing "Pirates online will close in 2 minutes" and then "Game is closed for maintenance, exit pirates online now" and then I said "MAKE ME LOGOUT!!
and then it logs me out, lol.

AdmiralSavvy 09-29-2008 09:21 PM

Well I myself don't mind maintenance at all unless I'm busy talking to someone or whatever.
I think it's good that Disney would perform maintence for POTCO but I think it needs to be done more often to prevent more countless bugs and endless lag fests. Like Chris said before, either in the morning or just a few minutes would work just fine for me. :)

Captain Seaford 09-29-2008 09:41 PM

Ya spelled Maintenance wrong. It's annoying, especially if i REALLY wanna go on, lol

swashbuckler II 09-29-2008 11:27 PM

who said i wanted to spell it right?

Captain Seaford 09-30-2008 12:35 AM

I've never been booted from maintenance, ha.

Swash, err, well spell it right. LOL

Edward Edgemenace 09-30-2008 01:06 AM

I don't understand why they don't update individual servers. "Abassa is going down in 5 minutes. Please switch to Andaba now." (Or something.) They don't change the underlying data structures of what pirate skills or attributes there are, so the individual game servers just shouldn't matter. But, evidently they do, so I guess it must be something not obvious to me.

On the other hand, the forced breaks are good reminders that I'm playing too much.

Jack I 09-30-2008 01:09 AM

It's mainly because of the way they have it set up. With games like WoW, where the servers are totally seperated, it's possible to shut one down without closing the others since it is not linked and is in turn a totally different file than the rest.

However in the case of POTCO, all of the oceans are linked together and thus act as one big file within the PiratesOnline file, meaning that you could not do that.

Reaver 09-30-2008 12:36 PM

maintenance needs to be done whether or not we like it all we can hope for is a real nice new update

wmah 10-02-2008 07:00 PM

In my opinion they should do a reset every night or even twice a day to force logouts on those people that will play for a bit and then leave fore countless number of hours or even the night and then it causes lag. I've started playing in the morning and sometimes it looks like a mob of sleeping pirates scattered around the ports. I can't imagine that many people falling asleep at their computers.

Dr. Zeppers 10-02-2008 07:03 PM

Maintenance is a funny thing. Its not always done on all servers.

I was playing the game with a friend last night pretty late.

We'd received no notices, were well past the time it would have been taken down, but were playing and having fun. Saw other pirates about.

Then I had to call it a night, logged out, and saw a notice indicating pirates had been closed for about 30 minutes already and wouldnt open for another hour or so.

I couldnt get back in, but apparently had just been playing on a server uneffected by the "maintenance".
