Food! OMG best treat ever!
So I enjoy a nice snack while I am grinding on my weapons. I just had to post and say I found my soul mate in ice cream form. I am considering moving to which ever state allows multiple spouses 'cause I am going to marry Edy's/ Dreyer's Apple Pie ice cream. So not only is it AMAZING in taste but the calories aren't going to kill me( bonus!) Bad news is that it is a seasonal flavor so grab it while you can.... Or not, leaves more for me.
Soooo what are your favorite treats... sweet or salty. Let's talk about some food.:buds: |
For me what ever is in the pantry ill eat while playing :D.
|
Aye popsicles for me! :)
|
ROFL Tandy! Only you could post about being in love with ice cream, and be totally serious about it ;) Thought I was going to sail off the map reading your guild chat about it....
I would personally kill for a pumpkin biscotti, but that's just the martha in me. |
Hmm.... well it isn't a pumpkin cookie, but Edy's/Dreyer's pumpkin pie ice cream is pretty good too. 7 degrees of snackage... wonder if I can tie everything back to a flavor of Edy's ice cream.........???:pirate2:
|
lol tandy always talkin about the vittles. *goes and looks in the cupboard
|
Haha! CIGARETTES AND RUM! Also, I snack on whatever is quick for me to grab. My comp is next to the kicthen entrance, so I just dash in there now and then. Licky-chews and Snacky-things (as they're called in my group) include tortilla chips and salsa, homemade pita chips and hummus, chocolate covered pretzles, KETTLE CHIPS!!! OMG Kettle chips are the best things EVER! Ummm... Rum? Oh, mentioned that already, hehe... Whatever strikes my fancy when I'm on the comp that we happen to have in the house (though, when playing POTCO last year, I DID actually run out of the house a few times while playing in order to get some tastyriffic num nums!
:D ~Mad Ange |

Chocolate Drizzle snack mix, Archer Farms, from Target. Can eat one handed, keep the other on the game.
Now for something better, White chocolatre raspberry cheesecake on a graham cracker crust, with rshaved white chocolate and raspberry sauce poured over and fresh raspberries on the side. 6', 195#. And I can eat anything w/o gaining weight! |

Sooo , thought I would bump this up and see if anybody has any creative ways to use left over Halloween candy. :12_1_138:
|
What ya mean leftover candy? Is there such a thing? Never heard of it...
oh, but this is good... Snickers Pie 2 c. Oreo cookies, crushed 1/2 c. dry roasted peanuts, chopped 1/4 c. butter, melted 8 SNICKERS bars (2 oz.) (16-20 of those mini things you get on Halloween) 2 qt. vanilla ice cream 1/4 c. caramel sauce 1/4 c. chocolate sauce Heat oven to 375 degrees. Mix cookie crumbs, peanuts and butter in 9 inch pie plate. Press into crust and bake 10 minutes. Cool. Chop candy bar into small pieces and fold into softened ice cream. Spoon into crust. Drizzle caramel and chocolate sauce over top. Freeze 4 hours. |
tandy ........mmmmmmmm the brownies r there any lelf
|
Okay... I'm going to burst your choco-bubbles with this, but I like soup! My favorite soup at the moment is Wolfgang Puck's creamy organic mushroom soup. Seriously... so good. Sometimes I stop by Panera Bread to get the "you pick two" asian sesame chicken salad and creamy potato soup with a side of french baguette on my way home from school. I always save half of the vinaigrette from my salad to dip my baguette into. Mmmmmmmm...
Other times I stop at Arby's and get curly fries. Tehe :psmiley35: OH! And let me tell you about Ciao Bella Blackberry Cabernet sorbetto... :piratesing: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...A280_SH20_.jpg It's about $5 a pint (basically the same price as Ben & Jerry's) but oh sooooooooooo gooooooooood. |
Thank you for all the kind words re: Edy's/Dreyer's Ice Cream! I happen to like the company very much...as they have signed my paychecks for the past 21 years! ;)
be on the lookout for our holiday flavors. :) |
OOO! We have a secret in to Edy's!! OK, everyone be real nice to Ironrat. *hands case of rum ;)
|
we actually used to make a rum raisin ice cream that was REALLLY yummy. Dreyer's/Edys' also own's all the Nestle Ice Cream snacks and Haagen-Dazs.

Well, I was gonna archive this thread, but was told not to. Figured that SOMEONE would have a great item to add following the holiday feasting. I'll start with the Pineapple casserole/topping that goes with the ham, the Strawberry creamcheese pretzel salad, and the Au Gratin potatoes.
Dessert is homemade coconut cream pie! |
You haven't had a feast until you've had an MD style Christmas dinner, complete with oysters, shrimp and crab dip. Yum!:xmascheers:
|
We talkin Christmas dinner now? Groovin.
This year I'm going Italian (do a different country every year) Starting with Italian Sausage stuffed mushrooms, shrimp, and Fontina & marinara Brucheta. follow that with some Manicotti. Chase that down with Ham, a Green Bean, Artichoke and tomato salad marinated with italian seasonings and roasted garlic mashed poratoes. Several glasses of vino later, we're having Tiramisu and Baci D'Alassino..... If I wake up the day after, I'll let you know how it went ;) |

We're having taco day tomorrow (the 25th) with homemade tacos and nice cold beers. But, Sarah your meal sounds very tasty for sure....since I married an Italian woman I eat Italian a lot...LOL.
|
I could make comments on both Mike's and Dave's posts, but I won't go there.

Best I can do is a fat seven layer lagsana. All that cheese, meatball and sausage....... makes me drool just thinking about it !!!!! Top it off with a nice red, and you have a feast fit for a king !!!!

Jeez, you are a snot. Or gourmet chef.
SYNONYMS! |
We have roast beef sandwiches every Christmas Eve.... a roast with onions and garlic simmered for hours til it falls apart in the pan. Good beefy juice...toasted rolls... pepper jack cheese.
My grandmother always served it Christmas eve at her house.. a way to feed a large group of people quickly so we could laugh and have a good time opening family presents. Lol.. it's the middle of the night at work... and I'm really hungry. Oh.. and cinnamon rolls.. both of my son's in law.. would rather have a pan of cinnamon rolls for their birthdays... than a gift card. (My great grandmother's recipe.) |
The local Bruster's Ice Cream shop has just started something new. Every Tuesday, if you bring your own banana to the shop, they will make you a Banana Split for $1.50. AND you get to pick the 3 flavors of ice cream!
Standard toppings, of course. |

I had sushi once for Thanksgiving...
I was on vacation with the family, but I'd brought my dog so when they went out to eat, I couldn't go. It wasn't that bad though...it was really good sushi, and a lot of my relatives annoy me. LoL |
OK, lemme tell you about my Martha day.
Was dying for a Cuban. Sandwich. Never made one before, no worries, I'm good at new stuff. no pannini press, one cast iron skillet...hmmm, how am I going to press these buggers...ah! Alton Brown, my hero, foil wrapped bricks. Got bricks, got foil, rock on. Fresh baguette, spicy mustard, ham, thin sliced pork loin, swiss, pickles, dab of butter....wrap and roll the sammies. Nice. Oven set to 400....now, the near death experience.....Decided to lay the pretty wrapped sammies in the cast iron skillet and carry them to the oven to smash the foil wrapped bricks on them to cook. Start pressing... on the open oven door...Bolt SNAPS on the double oven and as the burning hot thing starts for my head, I scream. The whole oven popped out of the wall and about landed on me. Can she cook? oh yeah. Has she brains? oh no. Is there a carpenter in the house? I need a new oven mount..... Yeah, Sarah ain't so bright. Kind of wish someone from AFV was there to capture it, I would have won the 100k. (i decided it was best to relocate the skillet and the bricks to the counter for pressing and THEN put the cubans in the oven...der) But they were awesome. Who Wants A Cuban? Sandwich. ;) |
OMG!!! SARAH!!! Glad you are OK. I'd liked a Cuban sangwich, without so much attempted murder of falling oven in it.
|
Never heard of Martha climbing IN the oven with whatever she was cooking! Hmmm, Maybe you are a combo of Martha and Tim the Toolman?
|
Sylvia Plath, maybe...

Found a new item:
There is a restaraunt I sometimes pass on my way home, it is a chain, called South of the Border. The food is acceptable, but they have two things that I consider above average: First; the Queso cheese sauce with the homemade tortilla chips. I have already ordered a quart of the sauce for Superbowl night party. Even better: One of their deserts, I think they call it Turtle Flautas! Light flaky pastry filled with chocolate turtles. Served steaming hot so that the turtle squirts and oozes when you try to cut it. Pure vanilla ice cream to counteract the melting turtle chocolate. You get 4 in an order, and even I can only eat 2 at a single sitting. (The other two go home for the next day!) |
Quote:
|
South of the Border's are all over....ugh, that rhymed...sorry. Ooie gooie chocolate, caramel and walnuts...with ice cream....scarape me off the floor.
|
Ummm anybody else picturing this little guy http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...urtle_back.jpg
while they are reading Basil's turtle dessert description??!!! "Served steaming hot so that the turtle squirts and oozes when you try to cut it." No?? Must just be me. Oh and Max, I love those South of the Border signs. They provided loads of entertainment on the long stretch of I95, at least until you passed them by. "Keep Yelling Kids They Will Stop!!" |
|
Ooohhhhhhh , those turtles... then yes I want some of that dessert!
|
Mmmm....Grog and Turtles.......gettin' hungry here...

That is a place called South of the Border, I'm talking about a restaraunt chain called South of the Border. See the difference? ROFL |
I have always wanted to stop at South of the Border. So many signs!
Also, I used to have a pet box turtle named Pugsley. |
OK, so my newest obsession is cupcakes. I found a recipe for Double Chocolate cupcakes that is AMAZING, and then I make a rum SMBC ( Swiss Meringue Butter Cream) to slather them in. They are sooooo good.
|
and why just say you found the recipe??? COME ON! Give up the goods!
|
Well, I could mail you a cupcake but I ate them all...... so how about a recipe link .)
http://find.myrecipes.com/recipes/re...ipe_id=1687704 I actually use 2 oz of the dark chocolate instead of 1 1/4 it asks for. You can use any SMBC recipe and add rum to taste. I used 3 tbs of rum to a batch of frosting. :buds: |
Hey, guys! Sorry I've been AFK - real life has been INSANE! I miss you all so very much!!! Once my work settles down I'll try to get a card and come back! *hugs everyone*
Since it's St. Patty's Day I'm making epic noms that I had to share with my food-loving pirates! Chocolate Guinness Cupcakes TIME/SERVINGS Total: 50 mins Active: 25 mins Makes: 24 cupcakes INGREDIENTS 1 (12-ounce) bottle Guinness stout 1/2 cup milk 1/2 cup vegetable oil 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract 3 large eggs 3/4 cup sour cream 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa, plus more for garnish 2 cups sugar 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda For the frosting: A half to a full shot of Bailey's Irish Creme 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened 1/3 cup heavy cream 1 pound confectioners’ sugar Cocoa powder, for dusting INSTRUCTIONS Preheat the oven to 350°F. In a large mixing bowl, combine the Guinness, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla. Beat in the eggs, one at a time. Mix in the sour cream. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the cocoa, sugar, flour, and baking soda. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet Guinness mixture. Butter 24 muffin tins and divide the batter among the muffin tins. Bake 25 minutes, until risen and set in the middle but still soft and tender. Cool before turning out of the tins. Make the frosting: Beat the cream cheese in a bowl until light and fluffy. Gradually beat in the heavy cream. Slowly mix in the confectioners’ sugar. Add Bailey's to taste. Top each cupcake with a heap of frosting and dust with cocoa. Enjoy, mates! (I'm also making fluffy shamrock sugar cookies with Bailey's icing ^_^) |

Thread revival!
Ok, new snack! Take the following ingredients: 2 boxes regular cheez-its 1 box White Cheddar cheeze-its 1 box Cheeze-it mixed snack mix 1 bag small pretzel sticks 1 bag cheddar gold fish 1 bag oyster crackers, the little ones a couple cups of crispex cereal, any type (or Chex) Mix it all together in a big container. Drizzle a full bottle of Orville Redenbacher's Butter flavored popcorn oil over it. Mix well to coat all the stuff. Then take one envelope of Hidden Valley ranch dressing, the powder, and sprinkle it over and mix well. I advise that you use the Orville and the Hidden Valley brands, others don't taste the same. You can experiment with the cracker ingredients, but the recipe above seems to give the best results. I once found little rice puffs, and they worked well when mixed in. Makes a LOT of snack mix, so I put it in bags and a big plastic tub. We eat it from the tub, and refill from the bags. It's the only snack mix in my house for the last couple of months. |
I just had to post here. We Pixies love Maple Syrup, it is Rum for Pixies lol & we Love Cake we serve these at every M&G. New Favorite!
I saw this made on Diners Drive-Ins and Dives, had to try it myself. Battered Balls of Turkey Basically it's turkey, stuffing, and mashed potatoes rolled into a ball, lightly battered, fried, and served with gravy. Like thanksgiving dinner rolled into one bite. Here's what I did: Turkey: Didn't feel like doing a whole turkey, so I poached some parts (bone in) for an hour in: 1 gallon water 2 carrots, cut in pieces 3 celery stalks, cut in pieces 1 onion, halved 1 head garlic, halved horizontally 4 fresh thyme sprigs 2 fresh rosemary sprigs 10 peppercorns 3 bay leaves Strain, let it cool, and shred it. Stuffing: (this is how I make it, I guess you could use Stove Top...follow package directions…) 1 quart chicken broth (use the stuff you strained from poaching the bird) 2 ounces dried mushrooms 1 cup chopped onion 1 cup chopped celery 1 cup chopped green pepper 1 tablespoon vegetable oil 1 tablespoon salt 3 cups bread, cut into 1/2-inch cubes 1 cup dried cranberries or cherries 1/2 ounces chopped pecans 2 whole eggs, beaten 2 teaspoons dried sage 2 teaspoons dried parsley 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper Heat the chicken broth in the microwave in a large microwave-proof bowl. Place mushrooms in a glass bowl and pour heated broth over them. Cover and allow to sit for 35 minutes. Meanwhile… In a large mixing bowl toss the onion, celery, and green pepper with the oil and salt. Place the vegetables on a sheet pan and roast for 35 minutes. During the last 10 minutes of cooking, spread the cubed bread over the vegetables, return to the oven, and continue cooking. Drain mushrooms, reserving 1 cup of liquid. Chop the mushrooms and place in a large bowl with the vegetables and bread, reserved chicken stock, cranberries (or cherries), pecans, eggs, sage, parsley and black pepper. Stir well in order to break up pieces of bread. Spread into a deep, buttered baking dish and bake at 350 for about 30 minutes. Let it cool so you don’t burn your hands off rolling it. Mashed Taters…you don’t need a recipe for that, right? Gravy: Again, use the strained stock you still have left over from the poached Bird Melt the 2 T of butter with 2 T olive oil, and add 4 T of flour. Cook this roux, stirring frequently, until it is golden brown. Slowly whisk in the strained stock being careful to work out any lumps. Cook until the gravy has thickened, about 10 to 15 minutes. TO Make the darn things: Take about a tablespoon of turkey, stuffing and taters, and roll together into a ball. Dip in either egg, milk or a combination, then roll in flour, then back in egg wash, then back in flour. Let them sit for about ten minutes on a cookie sheet while the oil heats up, and then drop them in a few at a time and let them get golden. Drain on a rack, paper towels, or a brown paper bag, and serve with the gravy. YUM Not as hard as it looks, I swear ;) |

TANDY!!! I did it! The mistakes were even awesome, a little messy...but tasty!
Here ya go Chocolate Hazelnut Purse For the Flourless Chocolate Cake: 1 pound semisweet chocolate, coarsely chopped 1/2 pound (2 sticks) unsalted butter, cut into 1/2-inch cubes 1/4 cup Kahlua 8 large eggs 1/4 cup sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla 1/2 teaspoon salt Combine the chocolate, butter, and Kahlua in a metal bowl set over simmering water or in the top of a double boiler. Melt the mixture, stirring constantly, until smooth and creamy, about 5 minutes; reserve. Meanwhile combine eggs, sugar, vanilla, and salt in a large bowl and whisk with an electric mixer until frothy and almost doubled in volume, about 5 to 10 minutes. (seriously, give this step time...) Fold 1/3 of egg mixture into chocolate mixture using a rubber spatula. Repeat this process 2 more times – until all of egg mixture has been folded into chocolate mixture. Pour batter into a 9" round cake pan, with a heck of a lot of baking spray, and place a roasting pan. Pour enough water into the roasting pan to come about halfway up the sides. (water bath) Bake until cake has risen slightly and edges are just beginning to set, about 40 to 45 minutes. Remove cake from roasting pan and cool on wire rack to room temperature. Refrigerate overnight. (VERY INMPORTANT< It's GOT to be cold!) The next day you'll need one jar of Nutella, a mess of melted butter, a one pound package of phillo dough, and a heck of a lot of patience Cut the cake into one inch rounds...um, donut holes is more like it. If you've never worked with Phillo before, unwrap, and place in some damp (very slightly damp) towels to keep it from drying out. Cut the phillo into 4" squares, re-wrap in damp towels Take four to six squares of phillo, buttered between each sheet. Lay a cake circle in the middle of the stacked dough, top with about a T of Nutella, and another round of cake. Gather the phillo up around the chocolate goodness. Here's where I had my problems...getting the phillo to seal around the goodies....if you slightly wet the part you're pinching together, seems to hold OK. Repeat til phillo is used up...lick remaining nutella with your fingers ;) Lightly butter the outside of the Purses. Place the "purses" on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake at 325 for about 12 minutes. Let them sit for a good 10 minutes before serving or even attempting to break them open...which gives you time to scoop some ice cream and put some berries on the plate ;) Any Ice Cream you like, and even some chocolate sauce on the side is nice. Here's a pic from the show I saw these on....mine were not this pretty...but close. http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/h...va-dessert.jpg They tied the purses together with pretty little phillo "laces"...yeah, I'm not going there...The slightly wet dough worked for me. Enjoy ;) |
I usually find myself drinking lemonade at the computer XD it gets the energy going.

I'm a really big fan of Tortilla chips, usually with Roasted Raspberry Chipotle sauce and cream cheese, its pretty tasty! If I can't get to that, then you can often find me indulging on Goldfish or some sort of cracker. :)

Ah that reminds me! tortilla soup is really great when im gaming.
