Maximvs 09-11-2008 02:56 AM

Sunny, just be careful :) Nothing worse than sitting around for almost 2 weeks without power and food (I had to go after 5 days to my parents just to eat... I had nothing left :) - it was a long 2 weeks... )

sunnysweeney 09-11-2008 03:39 AM

ok thanks. I will be safe:). it will prolly be like rita...just wind

Bartholomew Foulsteel 09-11-2008 04:23 AM

Well, as Ron White said:

"It's not THAT the wind is blowing, it's WHAT the wind is blowing!"

sunnysweeney 09-11-2008 05:33 AM

Tuefenhandel 09-11-2008 07:04 PM

At the moment, the line on the computer indicates that the storm is supposed to travel directly over my office.

I hope you will all join me in a prayer to Calypso that Ike makes a sharp right turn.........

Will have updates as able.

davy redflint 09-11-2008 07:22 PM

aye tuefenhandel, we will just have hang on to something when wind start to blow.

Rattlebones 09-11-2008 07:32 PM

Folks :

Note that while we share a concern for all of you folks in and around the projected path of a Hurricane, we still don't want users narrowing down their location so much.

Feel free to say whether you will be directly effected or not but do not give enough information for someone to narrow your location to a city/town.

Posts will be edited or deleted and warnings sent as appropriate.

sunnysweeney 09-11-2008 07:32 PM

I just found out we are going to have a hurricane party this weekend. Drinks all around

Swash 09-11-2008 08:25 PM

Good luck all being hit by Ike I was just hit by hannah last weekend.
They think that if Ike hits houston gas will go up to $6.00 Lets pray it doesnt.

Swash 09-11-2008 08:48 PM

Its a category 4 at the moment TAKE SHELTER!

davy redflint 09-12-2008 11:58 AM

lastest up date 80 to 100 mph winds expected here, w lots of rum ( i mean rain), what time the party

_kaytay_ 09-12-2008 03:00 PM

I live in louisiana and i'm staying too.

BRING IT ON IKE!!!

sunnysweeney 09-12-2008 04:17 PM

the path just turned to the west so i will be on the dirty side again. louisiana ain't getting nothing cuz the wind zone stops at the boarder of texas. it will be a cat 3 when it hits land. it wasn't a cat 4.

Aye, they are predicting cat 3, currently cat 2 (but borderline towards 3 this morning).

The size of this storm is the most ominous. It nearly spreads across the entire gulf. Going to be alot of people getting rained on irregardless of the wind zone. I encourage all our friends in Ike's wide path to take appropriate precautions.

davy redflint 09-12-2008 06:13 PM

aye thx zep, got me yard clear and stock the coffer, just gonna hunker down, and enjoy the power while we hav it, so if some us r not on tomorrow or later it will because of that. hopefully every one has taken precaution. be safe....

Well, since you'll miss out on POTCO's double gold bonanza, hopefully Ike will wash up some real treasure from the murky depths of the sea and drop it on your porch. Keep your bathtub full of emergency water (rum runs out - just ask Gunner.)

Davy redflint "OoOOooOooo.... BATON DOWN THE HATCHES!!!!"

kids... "We did! We did baton them down!"

Davy redflint "wellllllllllll BATON THEM DOWN AGAIN!!!"

Be safe please.. all of you.

Tuefenhandel 09-13-2008 02:43 AM

Wind has been blowing from time to time since about 5:00. Power went out for an hour, but fortnately has been restored (for now). So far, about 3 minutes of moderate rain fall.

And, we are still online for the eye.

About 3-4 hours until we get the brunt of it.

Should be an interesting day tomorrow.

Spent the day today constructing my "Ike Resistant Bunker". Complete boarding up, stowing away, making the ship tight. Got everything out of the yard except the dog - whose is out there in the wind fast asleep. And we all know to let sleeping dogs lie.

Poor guy is going to get one seriously unfortunate wake up if he doesn't hurry up and decide to come inside!

Have already had to make one serious decision. When the power went out earlier the call was - (1) leave the refrigerator plugged in and have stirred margaritas, or (2) plug the blender into the generator. I'm sure none of you need for me to explain what transpired.

In the immortal words of Randy Quaid (circa 1980 Miller Lite Commercials) - "I'll get back to you soon with more details...." errr, ummmm - as I am able.

WilliamMcSilver 09-13-2008 06:21 AM

I feel sorry for you right about now miss sunnysweeny. your gonna be in troublewhen it actually comes

Chris 09-13-2008 01:47 PM

Yea good luck :( hopefully no one will be hurt but hurricanes can be nasty little fellas

MacIronhawk 09-14-2008 01:26 AM

Yes good luck.
I've been watching the news and it doesn't look good.
Two people had been rescued only to say that next time they'll listen and leave.
I feel sorry for anyone there.
I couldn't live in a palce knowing that there's a chance every year to lose my house.

_kaytay_ 09-14-2008 01:50 AM

i survived....woohoo!

Well On the East coast and the Gulf there is the hurricanes....In the Midwest and Northeast there is Blizzards....In the Central Us and some parts of the South you have Tornados....On the West coast you have Earthquakes......And, in the Northwest there is Mt. St. Hellens.

So it seems no matter where you live you have to put up with something.:laughks2:

I now live in Alabama and put up with the tornados. Well if you can call them that. F1's and 2's aint tornados they are a strong wind. LOL Now, back in OK where I grew up they get F4's and 5's. Now those are tornados.

On a more serious note.........

I hope everyone made it through Ike OK. My thoughts are with all of you.

There is the threat of such natural occurrences everywhere. Obviously varying.
Living in the referenced earthquake country, I have one thing to say about hurricanes. At least you can see them coming!!!!

WilliamMcSilver 09-14-2008 08:09 PM

yes we didn't have an earthquake where i lived for 70 years yet still it happened this year.

Edward Edgemenace 09-14-2008 09:40 PM

Oh no. This does not sound good. http://www.click2houston.com/weather...33/detail.html.

That's no juggernaut! http://www.click2houston.com/image/17469662/detail.html

Mr.LoveLocket 09-14-2008 09:41 PM

Omg sunny! :(

WilliamMcSilver 09-14-2008 10:11 PM

why are people so stupid? They won't evacuate on a class what 4 huricane? Why its not their fault i know it was predicted to be what a class 2-3 but still projectionists are always so next time evacuate people just to be safe I know it costs money but then dont buy a house near a huricane zone.

I live near earth quake land.
We had one a few months ago but because I was on teh road I couldn't feel it.
At least if an earth quake happens everything in my house stays there instead of being blown away or ripped into pieces by the 300 miles and hour winds.
Like Zepper said, 'At least you can see them coming!"
I hate how earth quakes can just come and Boom! One minute your talking to someone the next your on the floor hoping nothing falls on you.

_kaytay_ 09-15-2008 01:21 PM

my house is till out of electricity but luckily i have other places to go

i'm hopin it'll be back on this afternoon

Andrew 09-15-2008 03:52 PM

Heh, have fun recording that, dont drop the camera!!. We usually dont get hurricanes much up here, just the remenents of hurricanes, so I really dont know what its like. Stay safe, and bring back a good video :D

Tuefenhandel 09-17-2008 07:16 PM

We survived - still no power. Looks like it might be Sunday before we get power (hopefully BEFORE the games start). Most likely it will be Tuesday. Some folks north of here might be out for 3-4 weeks.

Have learned how to BBQ everything - including coffee.

Not quite the life of a pirate, but close enough........

There are lots of ways, just about every cellphone you buy new these days can have internet ;)

Also Libraries, schools.. have it.

Also "No Power" usually means no public electrical service. They still may be running generators, etc for power in the meantime.
Power may be out, but phones may still work.. it can be crazy at times.

Swash 09-18-2008 01:27 AM

Ahh The reason i ask is I never get outside lol i dont hear about anything until its on the internet lol.

sunnysweeney 09-18-2008 01:43 AM

Way to go Sunny :D I just want to drop a line here to Sunny, Davy and all the others on their way back - glad you made it - hope things improve for you soon and take care :)

Scottish 09-18-2008 12:50 PM

Glad to hear that almost all of our POFers made it through the storm. Looking at the damage on TV, we are sure glad yall were not in the Galveston area. Looks bad for these people. looking forward to hearing from the members that rode the storm out.

Again, glad you guys are alright and hopefully life can get back to normal for you soon.

For me it's the living definition of a "mixed blessing". I have no power at home, but - we do here at the office.

So, I can to use the computer........... but, have to come back to work in order to do so.

Tuefenhandel 09-22-2008 07:05 PM

Let's see, this is now day <counting on fingers> nine???? Without power......

The electric company had been saying it would be by today.

And they today came.

Now they are saying it MIGHT be Wednesday, or Thursday...... sounds like they aren't too sure of anything at this point.

This is currently scoring a zero point zero on a ten point fun scale.

Sarah 09-22-2008 08:50 PM

OUCH
Sorry Tuefenhandel. At least it's making going to work a little less unbearable ;)

davy redflint 09-22-2008 10:43 PM
