***print the map before racing***

There are just a few rules which have proved to make the race more interesting and challenging.

1. Each race will consist of no more than 10 boats and ideally will be the same ship class. In the event that's not possible we will make that particular race an open event

2. All pirates will start at the fountain in the sqaure on PDF. I will crew all those racing so you can give me updates during the race as needed and i can "check in" on your progress by visiting your boat..

3. At the start of the race each pirate will need to run to the dinghy on either dock to launch their ship.

4. Once launched you will need to follow the course as outlined on the map. Any deviation to the course and you will be DQ’d.

5. You are NOT ALLOWED TO USE FULL SAIL OR RAMMING SPEED during the race. Anyone caught using these sailing aides will be DQ’d.

6. A new twist to the FULL CARGO rule. For this race, since it covers so much area you will need to fill your carge hold twice. You will need to port at Port Royal with full cargo then relaunch. You are not allowed to do any ship repairs when ported. You will then need to fill your cargo again before porting at Rumrunners. Failure to do so will result in a DQ. Of course this will be on the honor system but it should be clear to each of the racers if the other boats are not engaging enemy ships. It’s a long race so pick your spots wisely.

7. If you sink you are out of the race.

8. Once you’ve ported on Rumrunners you will need to run to the secret Rum storage room on the island where i will be waiting. You will need to ATTUNE me with your doll to complete the race. First one to do so wins.

When signing up please include the time you would like to race, boat class and ship name.

Just an FYI - later in the day races would also be good for my schedule somewhat :) maybe Ironcup III can include a later race or two :)

mlratto 09-11-2008 03:21 AM

later in the day races would also be good

i agree but with me as the sole race official i gotta schedule 'em when i can be there. Would love to have some backup officials *hint*hint*hint* to manage the times i can't be there.

actually anyone who wants to come up with courses to run and schedule them that would be great.

I kinda wanted to get the ball rolling and see if the idea could get some legs and see where it goes from there.

Oh, and Maximvs...not sure if you can do this but can you change the title to the thread? i wrote Ironcup instead of Ironrat Cup! d'oh!

Edward Edgemenace 09-11-2008 04:47 PM

Last week's race was ridiculously fun. Yes, I'd like to enter my "White Warrior" into the light sloop and light galleon races (if there is one.) Any race I'm not in, I'll gladly help officiate.

Swash 09-12-2008 12:27 AM

Is there gonna be a weekly race?

mlratto 09-12-2008 04:05 AM

Is there gonna be a weekly race?

well that's the goal swash. as we continue to have these races i am hoping we get positive feedback from those who participated. and with any hope people will see how fun they are and want to sign up.

so, i'll continue to put together race courses as long as people seem interested. of course everyone is encouraged to host races and make their own courses. variety as they say...

anyway, the course this week is particularly brutal...heh heh heh...so i look foward to sunday.

Dr. Zeppers 09-12-2008 06:31 AM

woa.. fill up twice, and no repairs... that will add a measure of difficulty to it for sure, especially on such a long haul!

Good luck to the captains in this one!
Still not sure if I can be on sunday morning or not.

mlratto 09-12-2008 02:39 PM

do you have what it takes?

that will add a measure of difficulty to it for sure

now why would i want to make an easy race zeppers?:sign0151:

i was able to make it through with a war sloop okay but received a fair amount of damage. this race is as much about survival as it is finishing first. with no full sail and ramming speed it puts a premium on sailing skill and tactics.

word of advice...use your camera angles to pick a good path especially when sailing through boiling bay.

regular class and light class may find the first 1/2 of this race particulaly challenging.

For light class races, we may need to allow repairs at Port Royal. Sinking shouldn't mean disqualification, it should mean you have to get back to the last checkpoint, before you sunk. (Honor system.) Running to Darby Drydock and repairing is itself a delay - it should be the captain's discretion as to wasting that time or not.

Ever since SvS, I've gotten absurdly good at nailing NPC ships with ramming speed. The "no ramming speed" is a wicked frustration. But obviously better than allowing it...race would just be too silly.

For the war class races, it might be hilarious to see a "victory lap" - all participants line up side by side forming a pirate wall, then bear down on (and sink) all NPC ships in from Hinterseas to Dead Man's Trough.

mlratto 09-12-2008 04:10 PM

not mention time in jail, running to the shipwright, etc.

okay, just to show i'm not overly sadistic...for the light class race only, if sunk you may restart the race. If memory serves me i think you get sent to the jail on the island where you launched from. A stiff enough penalty i think.

and yes, you can repair at port royal.

Again, this will be for light class only

JadeMcHawk 09-12-2008 08:08 PM

I did the course in the wee hours of the morning today, just to get my bearings. It's not that hard, long yes, hard, nah. LOL See yall there.

Maximvs 09-12-2008 10:26 PM

kk, I finished the map - Real Live is slowing me down for now... I'll come back to post more later :)

mlratto 09-12-2008 11:15 PM

well done maximvs. your efforts are appreciated. you will now recieve a 2 second head start on everyone. ;)

Swash 09-13-2008 01:14 AM

Mlratto its not fair to give him a 2 second head start just because he helped you i know he put a lot of effort but its not fair to other racers.

Hes right Mlratto, that wouldnt be fair. If I may make a suggestion?
Penalize all racers (except Max) 2 seconds for not helping with the map. ;)

LOL sorry couldnt resist.

mlratto 09-13-2008 05:06 PM

swash...if you haven't figured out my posts yet...most if the things i say are in jest. In a race that could take over 30 minutes a 2 second head start....well, you do the math. LOL

swashbuckler II 09-13-2008 05:52 PM

well that 2 second head start can saty like that a 2 second lead for most the race lol

Maximvs 09-13-2008 10:17 PM

I didnt get to use the 2 seconds anyway... as unfortuantly expected my step-parents did show up and ate all my food then chatted for hours about nothing exciting...

They could of least brushed up on pirate trivia and made it entertaining :D (they are good people though - just lousy timing...)

Sorry I didn't make this weeks races. Glad the map is to your liking and I'm looking forward to next weeks! (maybe that Sunday Evening Race would be better for me - being stuck WAY out here on the east coast... ;) )

swashbuckler II 09-14-2008 04:40 PM

sorry i missed race.
Went to see grandparents
ill try to make next weekends race

Ignore the part above lol
Didnt see race was today
be right on

Woo i won
Racket: 2nd
Sven: 3rd

MacIronhawk 09-14-2008 06:50 PM

Can I sign up?
Looks like fun.

Uh my war sloops name is BountyHunter Hunter.<----not my idea.

EDIT: Cool if I get signed up it's not too late for the 12:00 race. Uh do I have to say my pirate name? James Ironhawk.
I printed out the map too.

EDIT: Oh times? 12:00 and 1:00 PST.

Edward Edgemenace 09-14-2008 07:58 PM

Man-o-war flag ships can REALLY slow me down. 'specially when I sink. :-(

These races are fun! Next week's at Satuday evening or afternoon?

Maximvs 09-14-2008 08:10 PM

This weekend and next are a mess for me - just not getting a break...

I'll wait to see what the times are and depending on real life try to make them :) I enjoy the Races (and bought that War Sloop... don't wan't it going to waste! :D )

mlratto 09-15-2008 12:21 AM

well given the light turnout i'm thinking saturday afternoon and evening. i'm unavailable saturday morning and early afternoon.

i'll post another thread and see who responds.
