I cant help but wonder what the average age is of POTC players
I wonder if you know or if anyone out there knows. I know I used to be in a couple of guilds of "adult" players and I know zeppers has his old farts or windbags but I am an adult with a couple of children, 4 and 3 - both boys and I love the game. I am in my 30s. Are there other adult players still out there are have most of them moved on?
Thanks, ben firespinner lvl 40 and Dog Dreadwash lvl 40:buds: |
What's that sonny boy? Couldn't hear ya...let me turn up the ole aid. Ah, that's better. Now, where did I leave the cane? Need to go shake it at some youngins fixen to do some tom-foolery in the yard........ahhhh
I've fallen, and I can't get up! (ok gang, no giving out your real ages, please I have enough to do as it is....ranges are fine....like, dirt, older than dirt, invented dirt, and the inventor of the inventor of dirt) |
A quote from our missing compadre "Bilgepump"..
GET OFF MY LAWN!!!! You'll have to excuse me now... time for my meds. |
Sorry, I think I managed to do what most Mass Communications
majors do by failing to communicate - in my best prison warden from "Cool Hand Luke" voice. I mean I dont want people to tell how old they are. Heck, I didn't even do that. I just am curious what others on here think the average age of the players might be. Sorry for the confusion and I didn't mean to cause a stir.
|
30ish here... and most of our Guildies are similarly aged. (Which makes it a blast to play in our Guild! LOL)
So yep - adult members DO exist! |
lol, I can hear that voice clearly...
"What we have here.... " "Is a failure... to communicate!" Average age would be hard to come by, I know players 11 & 12 in the game. I would guess around 16-17yrs, considering all the volumes of younger basic free players. |
"underage"
enough said dont wanna get the BAN lol |
I didn't feel a stir ;)
As for an average, I'm guessing 15....ah, that makes me feel like the inventor of the inventor of dirt. |
no idea, but i like me rocker feel like i still om me ship..... lol
|
The metric I use to approximate the age of a nearby player, is to count the number of times they jump. (PvP'ers on Abassa are in one continuous jump - not jumping multiple times, generally.) While there are plenty of adult players, I'd be very skeptical of any statistic that suggested we were more than a small minority of POTCO players. Here on POF I imagine the average age is a bit higher...every kid knows that talking about a game, is just boring. :-)
|
Iam beetween 10 and 14. There! That is what you creeps need to do! Give a quick, clear answer! No more junk. She asked a simple question for pete sake!

The OP (who supposedly looks like Troy Aikman), I've got to believe is a he. And the question was not how old are you, its what do we think the average of players in Pirates of the Caribbean online. (so much for your paying attn) |
I'm older than the current high level you can get your pirate up to, but younger than Methusala.
|
I give my age out to only people I trust very much, but I guarantee a bunch of people know it already..

I'm the kind of person who WILL NOT give people even a hint about my age, I like to make people guess. Heh heh, even my guild was having a heck of a time guessing. :)
But I'll tell ya one thing, I'm not a kid. (I'm a kid at heart! :D) |
I know Savvys name, but I aint sayin. :p . Sorry if i did the too many post thing, Im really bad at doing that
|
Well lets just say that Noah was my Prom Date... He would have been a lot of fun, but he said he had to wake up early the next morning. Something about working on his boat j/k
|
Um the average age is 235 years old
|
I'd have to guess the average ages is 14-17.
Just guessing though. You would think more kids and teens would paly than adults but i've noticed more adults than teens or kids. I never really thought about that. But from age and maturity i'd guess 17 for an average.(at the highest) |
The thing that makes the average age difficult to figure out is so many spelling and grammar errors by the players. When you see such simple mistakes it tends to make you think you're talking with a kid who's struggling to pay attention in English class. That said, I'm no "Chat ****." (My bad - like the Soup Guy from Seinfeld lol)
If I had to put money on it, I'd say the average age is 16-21. |
I am over thirty, heck, over forty.
I love playing the game. Always been a kid at heart. Fair winds mateys. |
I'd have to say that the average Age is most likely a wild number. You'd be surprised at the amount of adults that like to play too.
For example, I'm in my 40's, my wife who plays is in her 30's. My oldest daughter and her husband play, and they are in their 20's and I have a young son who is not quite a teen yet that likes to play too! So where is the average there? hehehe. Who plays the most out of the group I just mentioned? Me and my wife! Arrrrr! :laughks2: |
If I had to guess at the avg age of a basic account I would say 14 - 16 and a Unlimited account probably 21 - 25. Just a guess though.
|
Im older than noteriety too. My list has an awful lot of people there too. Maybe average is closer to upper 20's is my guess. Average us over 40 with those under 20.
|
rotfl, too funny guys. Not quite to the highest lvl you can be, but almost.
|
Hmm, I've gotten my pirate to a slightly higher level then my age, but only by a few digits. My early elementary school aged son also plays (but has trouble quickly typing responses to questions people ask him).
I really wouldn't worry about the average age. Disney can't even begin to tell you what it is since so many put a fake birthdate in. There are definitely lots and lots of Peter Pan Syndrome adults out there along with lots of younger kids and tons in-between. It's the people that you meet, friend and have fun with that matter. Honestly, since 99% of them you'll never talk to outside of the game, age is irrelevant as long as you share the friendship bond and work together within the confines of the game. Good luck and happy questing and leveling. :) |
Chele great post!
Being one of the older pirates in my guild I have to say I really enjoy playing with people of all ages, in pirate years we all seem to be the same, at least in my guild. Ive met some really great young adults in this game , gives me hope for the future LOL . All kidding aside if you ever see me walking aimlessly in and out of the water its my 4 ish year olds , they just love to "walk" my pirate and go in and out of doors, they call all the NPCs there friends and cant read a lick of what anybody is saying! They also love sending the crabs "to jail" :laughks2: |
Given some of the local conversations I've observed, I'd guess to say the average is between 12 & 15 for free accounts. My guild ranges from 22 to 38 and they are all paying members. Robert Darkskull Pistols N Bladez :piratear: |
Like others have said, free accounts seem to be mostly younger kids, unlimited accounts probably average somewhere around early 20's.
I've met a lot of folks around my same age playing the game, over 30. |

I'm older than my current level (28)
I don't think I'm average though (above average yes!!). If I had to guess I would say the average age is 28, including noobs. |
Average ask u ask maties???Depends if we are talkin mental or physical me thinks...lol Me...I'm akin to Peter Pan...I'll never grow up...I'll just keep piratin on!!!
|
I would have to guess the average age would be around fourteen; the logic behind this is a cross between the information on this post and watching the conservations in-game. An example would further be that of the average age of military members (around 21); the spread of ages would seem to be closely related, just moved a bit further downwards.
Personally (and using my grandkids words) I'm three times older than dirt and five times as dusty. As with a fellow poster, my grandkids (vice kids) tend to "play" and I will see them running around like a chicken with their heads cut off or blasting away any remaining canon ammo while shooting at clouds when returning from a nature pause. Best of luck to all players. |
Well, I apologize to the mods, I've already listed my age in another post on this board :( ah well. But I could have written the OP's post..
I'd save average age is 14-15, going by how many people are running around looking for a gf/bf rotfl! But I think there are lots of folks who are older than that, think we are just a quieter group. And if some male pirate is following you around helping you, but won't answer anything you ask, umm.. that's probably my pre-reading son. He loves to play and I haven't had the heart to tell him that his 'friends' probably don't want him following them for an hr straight. Two nights ago some one was running around asking for ages. I politely told her it wasn't allowed.. and was then nearly beaten, tarred, and feathered for my trouble. Ah well. |
I have to say that I think the avarage age in the game has to be somewhere in the range of 11 to 16. Like another poster said ealier, you can you usually tell by the jumping around or all the misspelled words. Although I'm guilty of that alot.
My age is close to dirt and my guild has members that are very reflective of dirt and older than dirt. We have 2 members that are in their teens, but are very polite and normally ask if they can tp to you or board your ship. I don't mind younger players, but it make the game more enjoyable if you are playing with people your own age IMO. |
It's hard to put my finger on an average age... I would guess between 11-13. Although over all, POTCO has a great varied range of people of all ages and walks of life to play with.
I am an adult player, and if someone asks me how old I am irl, I always tell the truth. It's kind of creepy when you're talking to someone that you know is the average playing age and they ask you to be their gf...ew! I enjoy playing with mostly adults, but I'm sure I've got some younglings on my list. I find that adults are more respectful of your in-game time and they understand that sometimes one has real life obligations that can keep you away from the game for an extended period of time. I have this one member in my guild who hardly ever talks. He will drop in on anyone at anytime and help you out with whatever. When you move on, he'll go somewhere else. At first I thought he was a bit odd, but after seeing some posts here about way young players, it makes me suspect that he is in that category. |
I wouldnt question the age as much as i would question the maturity some of the people i have run into in the game are pretty immature most people just explode and just wanna fight and complain.
|
maybe this song will help with my age:
uuuhhhh, this is the song that- doesn''tttt ennnnd- it just goes on- and on my frriiiiend- (i just kept on singin it (changed the words) not knowin what it was, (somethin about ) singing it forever---just because- repeats 5x..... LOL i don't know when that came out, but i grew up with it, if that's a hint....ok uh, bobby's world?! yea! does anyone remember that? (JAG,E.D.M.) J<>J Faith Guide to the Unknown: Currently has 11 pirates |
The real average age is probably 10-13.

I try to calculate the average age by payment. I'm guessing the average Basic Assess member to be age 10-17, a Blue Tag being anywhere between 12-50+, since there are so many. And the average Founder most likely being an adult (ages 18-50+) All the Founders I've met are "adults", and also, just try to tell me the chances of a kid's parent paying for this game ever since Nov or Dec. I'm a Founder by the way.

Believe it or not lads & lasses...the average gamer on pc's is between late 20's up thru the 60's...
Why? Because we were the ones who started out with our Commodore Vic 20's back in the late 70's & 80's...we were there when Duke Nukem was a side scroller...ran around Castle Wolfenstein...hopped in our X-Wings and TIE Fighters...saved mars and the earth before we were DOOMed...etc... We were there from the initial launch of home pcs...my first being a Tandy HX 1000 to a Compaq 33Mhz(yes you read right) that cost my father back then 3k...my first home built was an AMD 233Mhz... Younger kids are more the console generation while adults seem to be more pc oriented...not to say either side switches back and forth from one platform to another, but I doubt kids these days would enjoy my Intellivision or Atari console...lol :psmiley35: |

I still get occasional PMs on the board here from the kids... Why "Old Farts Extreme"! ewwww! LOL proud of it!!! |
I ain't no rocket scientist, but it's gotta be at least 4. Ohp, sorry: removed me age.
|
The average age is probably much higher than people are guessing - primarily because it only takes one 45 year old and four 15 year olds to get an average age of 21. The distribution of ages probably has a mode in the late teens, but there are not a lot of paying players younger than early teens (and those are likely scarce because parents are not keen to pay for tweens to be involved in as much "grown-up talk" as I usually see and tweens are not interested in playing if they know they are restricted on chat). So, a small proportion of us older players make for an average of paying players that is probably close to 30. I couldn't guess the average of non-paying because I do everything possible to avoid their usual haunts.
|
Well the only problem I have with that math, is that 90% of the kids ive met in the game were 11-14 to begin with (and not yet 15 as that example states).
|
lets just say i'm older than zeppers...which also makes me an old fart! But age is just a number...as my friends scoff at me for playing pirates i guess it goes to show i'm youngera t heart than they are!
but to answer the question at hand...my guess is the average age just went up since school has started. I'm thinking 15-17. |

Seems things have quieted down a bit in the evenigns as well. |

Seems things have quieted down a bit in the evenigns as well.
aye...so thats why i've seen you on lately. :) |
10-18
That's my guess :) |
Most of my friends are between the age of 10 and 21. I'd say average is 17.
|
Wouldn't a poll be better? With options such as age groups,
1 - 5 6 -10 11 - 15 16 - 20 21 - 25 26 - 30 And so on. The poll could be done where no one posts what they have selected or to at least wait until there has been at least 15 to 20 picks in the poll to hid who picked what. I have wondered what the age is of some of the players cause sometime their actions seem they are coming from a 10 year old. example "plz let me steer" or the continuing of asking to go after the big Navy flag ship where they are only a level 9 on a crew of 3 or 4 which no one but myself is at least a level 20. And then what happens is I end up being the only one left on board to beat them all. |
My current guild is made up of adults so no, we all haven't 'moved on' just yet
|
Moved on? I'm not moving anywhere... we adults were here first! :D
(thats a play-on-words from Tobias' post... aww forget it - young people these days just dont get it LOL :D ) Ok, for my current guess - on POTCO, probably 13-19 average age - on FOF here - I'm thinking 21-35 average age... I find older people will post more confidently and often. Thats my guesses for today :) |
Lol Max, I get it....how old does that make me? Oh yeah...older than dirt.
|
I am the similiar age to Noogah lol. I didn't know the average age was like 15 or something I thoght t was like 13 or 11.

My guild is 20's -40's with a couple older teens playing with us older than dirt people. I started playing game to help my 9 yr old daughter. She can't get past a certain level without being able to communicate fast, so she just keeps starting new pirates. So I'd say lots of younger ages in lower levels. Once you get past level 15 or so, I bet the age of player goes to older teens & up.
I used to try to spell correctly but realized that is was faster to communicate with game shorthand & misspellings. I'm a teacher but no one would know that by the way I spell in game, lol. |
I want to thank all who responded
Wow! I feel much better now. There are quite a few players here my age even though the majority is obviously below that. There were some really good responses to the question here. I love the game and I love my guild but I do believe there is only one other adult, two counting my wife, in my guild as far as I know, but it is a great guild so I hang in there.
In fact there are probably four or five characters that keep me in the guild including Savs, Andrew, Ben, and perhaps Alex. were it not for them I would probably seek a guild with people more my age but my four characters, three really since my wife uses one of them most of the time, they have been in four or five guilds and this one is the best by far just because of Savs, Andrew and Benjamin. Then again, just my opinion and I might be a little biased. :dancetl6: I'm sure there are many other great guilds out there. |

It amazes me how people apply so much importance to post count. I can tell you exactly what it means in a single word ZERO! However, if one were to count the actual words/content, and subtract use of smilies and odd sized text, the older posters would sail past the younger set by a mile. |
Quote:
You mean that a higher post count does not equate to a higher "status"? You mean I don't get the gold Rolex for retiring with the highest post count? OK. :) |
Quote:
I had people pointing it out to me generally before I even realized it was there. Bears no significance to me, other than perhaps I need to go outside more. LOL However... its alright, I dont mind those working on posting counts if they aspire to be at the top O a list. (as long as they make thier posts worthwhile) ;) |
well, i guess there is an award for more posts. LOL. First time I have seen that.
|
Most of the people in front of me in the points is because they have all their or most of their points from that per day section. But I rarely do smiley faces. I know you are not talking to me in general though.
|
Someone asked my age today in guild talk and my reply was "Older than Tortuga"
|
Since there has already been a Methusala reference..............
...............I am older than my teeth, and as young as my tongue. (Bonus points for whomever can name the movie). |

Like Zep said - if ya want to be the top poster - get there with some REAL information - not flooding every post with 'blah blah blah' :D --- As my prediction - my count still stands - POTCO players are a bit younger age level then the posters of POF (In my .02 worth :) ) |
Most of the pirates I run with have children. My children play this game as well and they love it. Them being on POTC is what got me into the game.
Keep rockin' in yer chairs mateys. |

Heh...I actually enjoy reading this thread...gives a fun insight on how people are and what they're thinking...
Now, if you'll excuse me...I'm going to go hop in my '79 Ford LTD and pop in an 8 track of Bob Segar and the Silver Bullet Band... :sign0011: |
8 track? What in the world is that?! I'll keep to my '94 Ford Mustang with the CD player! ;) (Yes, I am a wise.... heh) I know what they are... just to young to have ever used them... I remember asking my dad once when I was really young why he had an Atari game when we didn't have an Atari... heh That said (Atari) you can assume how oldish I am.
ANYWAY.... What's the problem with saying what your age is, when your profile will say it? |
Quote:
The reason your profile can reflect it is, there are certain features of the forum software that cannot be overridden. |
Well that I knew, my question should have been worded better.
|
I question the age of some pirates however the game is made for 10+ according to the advertising.
|
if all these are the average age, then i am one young player!
|
Lol.. some of us have grandkids... young grandkids.. and yes I let my grandson play my account.
Have to watch tho.. the little tike can't read and he accidentally sold my first war frigate. He cried..I cried..lol. (Not really. Had to console the guy.. tell him it's all pretend. It is pretend isn't it?) |
I think so but ya never know with the way some people act. ;)

There is no average, there are players of all ages and thats the way I like it.
