People don't talk much on POTC huh?

I've played many many mmporg games, and this is the only game where players NEVER TALK. Am I the only one who notices this?

Strange, i've had the opposite experience.

Played another Pirates MMORG and couldnt get anyone to talk to me even if I tried.

I think what your seeing is pirates busy at questing.. hang out on the busier servers at tortuga docks.. you'll probably find some in game conversation. :)

BlackEnsign 09-05-2008 03:20 AM

Yes, you are right. I was once in a crew and I couldn't get anyone to talk. I only get in game conversation when I am in a decent crew.

Maximvs 09-05-2008 03:24 AM

And you have to watch for those parental controls and the Speed Chat Plus... you may see no conversations at all if yours is turned on :)

lostinthelab 09-05-2008 04:28 AM

Aye, the parental controls. I've had to turn on the "+" sign a lot lately to get people to see what I'm saying. You would have thought there would be less kids playing now that school has started.

Stormsilver 09-05-2008 10:28 AM

I have experienced the same. Plus there is such a long list of things you can't mention in chat that I think some people just don't bother chatting.

davy redflint 09-05-2008 11:37 AM

no problem here really except the one that ask to be freinds and never talk, but there a lot of kids with the parental control on. but after all it is a pg game.

Now you guys are getting it.
Type one thing out three or four times, or just not say anything.

DarkScarlett 09-05-2008 01:38 PM

Not me

not me i am very chatty... even when i meet sum1 new...in fact.. guild master basically told me I was driving her nutz with Chat... LOL... oh well its a social game and i like to chat and joke around.. even use the plus sign to make sure im being heard if i get a nonresponsive person. Some times i cant hardley play 4 chatting...lol

Reaver 09-05-2008 03:22 PM

people tend to talk in guilds and crew more than local chat it is easier to keep up one conversation there

Andrew 09-05-2008 04:17 PM

its the parental controls. If youre under 13 you have parental controls. If you are 13+ then you must turn on the cross thing in your chat box to talk to the ones 13 and under. I REALLY HATE USING THAT THING!! you cant type anything when you have the cross on!

I believe this is still controlled by the primary account (parents account).

I have played with pirates under 13 that do not have such restrictions (because thier parents did not implement them on thier master accounts).

icemage 09-05-2008 07:28 PM

I am "underage" and I have a master account (myself) so I just unchecked it and now I can say anything but my friend can't

Deadeye_Andy 09-06-2008 03:19 PM

Mostly I just use Crew to talk to my wife and other friends when we are all online.

If I'm out and about, and someone asks a question or yells for help: "Pls help! Fly Trap killing me!"

I'll try to answer the question, or run over and kill the fly trap for them.

Having come from MOUL (Myst Online: Uru Live) Pirates is silent as a tomb when it comes to chatting and socializing.

What gets me is trying to find someone. Unless you know a person outside of POTC and agree to meet on a certain server, at a certain time so that you can add each other to your friends list, there is no other way to find friends, even if they've told you what their username is.

B00TS 09-07-2008 09:03 AM

Some days, peeps are sooo busy questing, and then there are the ones who cant talk due to the controls. I accept friends who chat with me, and tend to dump the ones who dont. If you really want to chat with hords, try Tortuga, on the first server. If you are lucky, a lvl 40 tossing nades at midnight will chatter with you cause he is bored out of his mind with nothing else to do but await for Chapter 2. Get in a good guild. My guild, MercRaiders chats allllll the time. Smile*

Mr.LoveLocket 09-07-2008 02:24 PM

I am always talking and i never had a day without sum1 not

Jade McKidd 09-07-2008 07:24 PM

I find that most really don't chat that much, other than I need this or I need that. There are a few on my friends list that I do chat with, and being chatty myself I love to talk about game and anything else that we can chat about.

Dark Scarlett, if ever you see me I would love to add you since you and I seem to be chatty and probably would get along really well!

Alia_of_the_Knife 09-11-2008 07:30 PM

I have also noticed that POTCO is a very quiet game compared to other games that I have played. For me, I'll gladly hang out and chat a pirate up. However, if I'm on the run, firing a cannon, or driving a ship, you're out of luck mateys. I have such a hard time walking and talking at the same time. I figured alot of people were like me and that's why they were quiet.

I like having a peaceful game to relax in. Don't get me wrong, I have lots of mates to chat with and I spend alot of time in whispers, guild chat, etc. It's nice to see the local chat not clogging up the scenery.

Chris 09-11-2008 08:47 PM

I have to agree hardly anyone talks in the game compared to some others i play where its chat chat chat chat chat i cant keep up lol.

AR_FiberNeoPirate 09-11-2008 11:12 PM

the x!!! awman, i wouldn't have thought of that! lol, wow, but i've tried that, and no matter what i do it still results in no talkin :( thanks for posting this aiwass

Ditto, if you wanna talk a lot, go to Tortuga on Abassa by the shipwright. And if you're lucky, you'll run into the pirates that are on the Top (100) Pirates (overall) Leaderboard for enemies defeated or ships sunk board or card games or or some other list who like to talk about themselves a lot... Hey now I used to be a "Top (100) Pirate" for PvP: Mayhem, but highest I ever got was #87 or so, and I don't talk about myself that much like those people.

katsunspinner 09-15-2008 04:32 PM

chatting

Oh wow, I have the opposite experience! I sometimes wish they would all be quiet! haha My guild talks a lot when certain people are on. I tend to ignore anything in blue unless I see my name come up. And I have rarely been on a silent crew. We have a lot of people in different guilds that just hang out together , play and talk. So it is rarely quiet when I am online.... wait maybe it's me! ha ha ha

League 09-16-2008 01:58 AM

I find chatty people hate each other. Each wants to talk, none to listen. Anywhoo, with the few solid friends I've made, we chatted about all sorts of dumb hoo-blah that made for one heck of a fun time. I also had another who seemed to be terrible in combat: she'd do all these things when went to jail, when she got rescued, etc. And then she'd talk nonsense to pass the time as we leveled, and I'd chime in.

Among those I know, it is great and all.

I went on my basic account which doesnt have the check mark. I did noticed half the people i knew weren't talking. I bet it must be because of the filter :piratear: but when its on. I always have people talking :buds:

Scottish 09-17-2008 05:12 PM

Overall you may be right about people being silent on the game. Some of it's due to the filters if you have then on and some of it is people working their quests. It's really annoying to chat with people while trying to finish a quest.

I suggest that you find a good guild. Usually that is where you find most of the chatting going on randomly. Most people crew up with their friends and chat in crew chat, so you never see it unless your in crew.

The other way is to go leveling in different areas and you will run into several people doing the same thing. i usually strike a conversation up with them, then after a while we crew up and takw turns healing each other. I found this to be real rewarding, because that is were i have found some of my best friends in the game.

Unfortunately the reason for the speedchat, Plus chat etc is understood, but with no way of knowing who is subject to it. There is no way to know how to communicate to other players.

I as an unrestricted pirate will NEVER default to using that impossible plus chat so those that are restricted can hear me, even though my content is never outside of the rules. Personally I think a pirate forced to these restrictions is a handicapped pirate, and nothing against the handicapped, but perhaps when choosing servers it should also filter pirates with the same chat restrictions to the same server (unless a pirate chooses to migrate to a server on thier own).

If I type to you, and you cant communicate with me, I will ignore you in the game, plain and simple. I will almost never lower myself to turning on the plus, why should I frustrate myself further to try to help someone that probably wont type back anyhow.

Um, because they are usually the ones that need the most help? I wonder if I ever met you when my pirate was brand new. And if so, am I still on your ignore list?

Let me rephrase, by ignore, I do not mean I click Ignore on ya.
Im not that cranky!!!!

It just means I pay no attention to the frequent friend/crew requests, and frequent saying of "Help" "Help me". I ask how I can help once or twice, if no response I move on.

Although I like to help people out, I dont want to have to 'work' at it. Perhaps a little perspective. I do computer "telephone support" for a living, prying information out of clients is what I have to do all day. I have no intentions of going through that trouble when im the one paying and trying to relax in a game.

I am usually the same way, Zep. However, the word please always gets me. If a little pirate comes up and asks for help and says "please", I will go through the trouble of using the + chat. Manners go a long way toward getting my assistance.

ot: I was the IT/Help desk person at a small hospital in Kansas for about 2 years (on top of my job as a Department Director). I know I shouldn't have, but when one of the nurses asked me "Have you taken down the internet?", I calmly responed "Yes. I took the internet down for maintenance. It should be back up in a couple of hours."

LOL! :D As manager of Service Desk Operations for 50 hospitals here - this will be the line I tell the staff to use on the next call they get - "Rackat has taken down the Internet for a few hours..." :D

Agreed, but this is usually someone talking/typing to me, so I try a little harder as well. How often does it go like this?

other pirate: Please help me!
you: How can I help you?
other pirate: <says nothing>
<click plus sign> you: How can I help you?
other pirate: <says nothing>
<click plus sign> you: I cant help if I dont know how to help you.
other pirate: help kill things

At this point im lost because im not prepared to teach someone the whole game via the + chat. Im not about to run around helping this person kill whatever they want. Now if the response is:

other pirate: need help with lvl 15 brigands where do i find them?

or something like that.. I will gladly help out.

but "help kill things" just wasnt going to cut it, this game is basically PG rated, and parents should be helping in this situation.

Another perspective... Friend box pops up.

me: Sorry matey, I dont friend people I dont know, and that dont talk to me.
pirate: no response
me clicking +: Sorry matey, I dont friend people I dont know, and that dont talk to me.
pirate: no response
me clicking NO on friend response.
pirate: please?
me (with +): I dont friend people I dont know, Is there anything I can help you with?
pirate: please be my friend.
me (with +): I dont add people to my list I dont know, can I help you in some way?
pirate: please, please be my friend.

This is where I teleport away.

You may have more insight on my situation than you think. I specialize in medical billing support. hehe.

How did you get copies of my chat logs? :-)

Quote:

OK, OK. Yes, for those situations I do too. More often, I'll click YES then count to 10, then de-friend them.

On the other, hand, keeping my friends list full all the time (hard not to, really) prevents the friend boxes from appearing.

When someone starts asking me to befriend them, I'll crew them and ask them to wait while I find a slot. 1/2 hr later, if they are still sailing with me, I'll take another look at my friends list, looking for a name I haven't seen online in a few days.

O/T: Wouldn't it be sweet to have all sorts of "friend list management" tools? List them by "date last seen" or by notoriety or "total time we've been logged on at the same time on the same server" or "number of times we were in same crew" or "total time this person has been within one compass width of me."

Mr.LoveLocket 09-17-2008 10:46 PM

My guild is always going differently
Sometimes i say Hello and no one responds
however most of the time the chat is always
with people going "________________" (<-- idk what to put lol)
I think it could be because they are busy leveling their weapons
Or doing other important things.
If you want for alot of people to talk to you
go to tortuga abassa
but warning it can be real mean with these
foul languages :/
Or your friends could be afk
and won't talk. I recommend getting non-safe.
If you need help i can guide you step by step :)
400th post!

Sometimes I get bored when no ones on or people don't respons I guess quit then get bored then I don't know what to do.. like now
