how to run POTCO twice on one computer
 

whoever figured out how to do this is a genius, and im not quite sure where to post this, but most people view game talk alot, here are the steps to running Pirates Of The Carribbean Online

1. go to My Computer in the start menu
2. Under Hard Disk Drives, double-click Local Disk (C: )
3. Then click on Program files after step 2 is completed
4. A bunch of files will then come up, find and double-click on the file named Disney
5. Click on Disney Online
6. Click on PiratesOnline
7. Then all of the files for the game will come up, find Launcher1
8. Copy it and paste it right next to the Original copy
9. Double click on the copied Launcher
10. Login there ( i login on a linked account so i can play on both of my characters)
11. The game will then install for that launcher

if you would like you can send the copied version to the Desktop, making it much easier to login on both.
Im sure a bunch of people were wondering how to do this, I hope this will help you achieve goals with both of you pirates!

Technically, it is not a "cheat" because you are not messing with the code. But will it be frowned upon by D to change the launcher name?

well that is a possibility, i was cocerned about getting in trouble with that at first. But then i thought "They give us one copy of the launcher, and we are free to do whatever we want to with the one copy right?

Yes, but once you copy it, you now have 2 copies, which is not what they gave it to you for. lol

It is generally acceptable to make an archival backup copy, but not two copies of a software application to run it more than once (which would often break TOS on a software package as they are usually licensed to one instance).

Dont know if they care or not, thats one way, you can also use the instructions in our online account linking guide (also a required step anyhow) to achieve the same thing without even taking a chance at peaving Disney/POTCO. Shows how to just close the launcher so you can run it and login again.

Also, if you were lagging in one instance which I hear so many complaints about, you will lag far worse running the game twice.

AH! youve got me scared now zep!, and someone told me about it, but they dont have a POF, so i decided to post it on my own

Aye, you do lag alot worse. Sometimes i just freeze, and i just do ALT+F4 to close everything

When my propeller over my head starts to spinning sometimes I get a bit technical.
Software licenses are also often "per machine" in which case running several instances of it would not be any sort of issue.

Using twice as much ram, resources etc.. will drag it down. If you do this you'll be wanting to turn all Graphic, and Geometry settings down LOW to help accomodate.

I read it to mean make a new shortcut of the new Launcher1 and put it where you want - not change the actual name of the file...

Then again - that could be the not so smart thing in me ;)

I would be inclined to agree with Zep on the software license. They are generally issued per machine so there wouldn't be a legal issue with running 2 on the same computer.
Wonder if this works on Mac. I'd love to keep u with my guild on one character while I level up a baby 2nd character.

you dont HAVE to have a linked account, its better if you do though, heres what to do if only have one aco**** with Unlimited Access.

Login on your Unlimited account first
then launch the launcher the 2nd time, and login on the account with Basic.
you should know what to do from there :)

No, you dont, but with the mentioned reference you would have 1 unlimited pirate in one window, and 1 basic pirate in the other (not 2 unlimited pirates)

Unless you are limited by parental controls, it makes sense to me to link the basic account to the unlimited account so you CAN play 2 unlimited pirates. :buds:

yup, limited by parental controls i guess... I login on MY account first, which is Unlimited. Then I login on my dads account, which is linked to mine, and just go to my account. Login on my primary account to my lvl 40 (Andrew), and on my dads account, i login on my lvl 12 (Super A

ah well see your already linked to your Dads account, thats why you cant link anything any further to your account (your dad's is the primary account). But you get to play two unlimited pirates anyhow because you apparently have access to dads account.

This is great! It makes it easier to level up your second pirate. Also, if i need someone to teleport to on kningshead while leveling grenades, i can use my other pirate on the same computer.

Aye, my baby pirate, lvl 12, Super A, can level up alot quicker now. Only thing is...LAG!!!!, I got enough lag before I starting playing twice on one. So I probally wont be on both at once much anymore

I tried this on my computer. It was very cool to have a couple Edward Edgemenaces befriending each other. But astoundingly slow. I shut one down, went to Kingshead with the one remaining. Then started the second one back up again. It was slower to do that (including teleporting to his "friend") than it was to just sail to Kingshead in the first place.

If I ever bother getting a few more gigabytes of memory for this, I might try it again. Other than a curious photo-op, I can't see why, though.

I lag so much and the pictures are sometimes messed up. I have to put EVERYTHING on the desktop for it to work...

WOW! Nice guide! You can do the same thing on TT i think. I do it on TT a lot.

Just dont download it on the desktop, all it does is put all the files to the game there as well. And yea, its oh so laggy, ugh, I cant stand it with just one character

ok thats ackward. Hmm, make sure you follow the directions exact! I did the steps one by one and then typed it on here. You should basically have 2 copies of the launcher on your cp

I'm not gonna try it, as I lag enough with one as it is. Two computers with two accounts though may work fine, as limiteds can get the Doll and heal with it.

Well this way can be more then once to run potco more then 2 times just keep renaming the launcer then double-clicking it you could have it running 100 times (doubt your comuter could handle that though)

Yes this works on a Mac by just making a copy of the PiratesOnline application stored in the Applications folder. Then run each one separately (and yes both will patch, and behave independently). I never thought about sharing this as i thought there would be no interest. hehe :)

I never really do this double POTCO thing anymore, it gives me too much lag
