What have U seen WEIRD on POTCO? How About A Wedding!!

I saw a WEDDING on POTCO

My YOUNG son TP'd to someone on my friends list (something he frequently does).

I then came to the game console and saw a message where the person on the friends list asked my son several times to 'leave' and not to come back because he was crashing a wedding.

I don't think my young son read this (which he often does not) and it was apparant that he was not at the wedding at that time, so I could not resist tp'ing back to this player to see what the hubbub was.

I came to a 'glitch area' up in the sky with a row of 7 or 8 bridesmaids and 7 or 8 groomsman formed in a "V" with a make and female character at the point of that "V", with a single "CAPTAIN" type player at the head in what looked just like a WEDDING CEREMONY!!!

It was in a glitched area were someone I guess had walked through the back of the Misty Mire or Cuba.

Again I was asked to leave, but I hung around for about 60 more seconds, I saw the player took me off his friends list. But I could not resist seeing what the HECK was going on and I had a 3 word exclamation (in my head) that Started with WHAT and ended in CK!

Are some people in this game that lifeless and such losers to be REALLY getting married in a game?

What other weird player stuff (NOT GLITCHES) have you seen?

LOL!!!

Rackat 08-28-2008 09:42 PM

I've heard of weddings in the game, but never seen one. I honestly don't know what to make of such things. Girfriend/boyfriend relationships with another person's avatar? Just a little too off center for me.

Maximvs 08-28-2008 10:07 PM

Just a note - the Thread was removed Temporarly due to a mis-read on Policies (well not really - but - some of our sites allow it and some don't). After review the thread may continue on its merry way (as long as it remains clean ;) )

And as for weddings - the whole thing just creeps me out :P I mean... common! I totally agree that if you have to get married in the game... *cringes* :)

That sounds like a waste of time.
A waste to go on the game.
It's jsut dumb.

Also so you let your son get X'd without caring so he'd come back and get upset wanting to know how that happened?

Gabyta 08-29-2008 01:23 AM

hahaha that sounds funny to me!
a pirate marriage?? hihi..
Congratulations to those players? ;)

Jade McKidd 08-29-2008 03:13 AM

I was invited to a wedding about 2 weeks ago, and it was someone on my list of friends. They had bridemaids, a maid of honor, groomsmen, and alot of people were invited. It was interesting to say the least, and heck if someone wants to go through with a wedding and the people they invite go, then go for it, I say!

Yeah, it was cute, and cornbally, but still it was 2 pirates doing their thing with friends, they invited to the event. Oh, I almost forgot to say that it was held in Port Royal, during the day, and the bride looked lovely in white!

Yo-Ho-Ho!

I guess if they want to do it, whatever, but really...? :huh8:

Nelly Darkpaine 08-29-2008 05:46 AM

LOL We had a wedding in game! Was a blast!

We tried it on a quiet server, and the attendance ended up being so many that the server was FULL and people were getting booted, and werent able to TP in, etc.

So.. ONE server change, let the close at hands know... again, it filled up. Everyone followed.

Change of server AND location.... FINALLY enough quiet for a wedding!

Was a BLAST - had Bridesmaids, groomsmen, a reverend. (A real one at that!)
I have pics up if anyone would like to see! I can link em!

I married the person Ive played with since I was a wee level 17 or so... LOL We leveled to 40 together on the SAME stump. Huzzah! LOL

Stuff like this is fun, and makes the small in game friends and groups come together. I say, why not!?

Davy Darkhawk 08-29-2008 06:16 AM

Before we start - just note the 'harmless small group of friends quote' - but then notice they had so many they choked a server to death ;) LOL

Second - Nelly, I'm sure the Wedding might of actually been fun - but I'm going to use your example as to why weddings (or any 'heavy' social interaction) is just wrong - but everyone here shoud know the example is not directed at her but as a general observation on the topic.

====

Ya know, if it was just for 'fun' - like for example two friends of mine doing it for laughs to hang out with a few others for laughs for a bit cause we are THAT bored... maybe - MAYBE - I would look past it...

But we all know that isn't it at all! No one goes NEAR an A server for being tourtured with 'be my boy/girlfriend' requests... and I have yet to see anyone over 15 (or much more than that) actually do one of these 'marriges'... so theres no 'humor' in it - espically when your told 'to leave'??? Do they even understand the complexities of what a serious committed relationship means? (any kind of serious commitment or focus being understood by 15 yr olds on a game? I'm not buying it...)

Say what you want - but I cannot see there 'pretend' marriges as a good thing... POTCO is not a dating service its a game of Pirates and Plunder (go play Zwinki or one of the those social quirky games for that stuff). :)

Well... I could say that some of us don't take ourselves too seriously. ;)

Maximvs 08-29-2008 01:43 PM

LOL :D Well that why I noted that in your case - it probably was for fun.... ;)

But I can find lots to do in game without having to get married me thinks :D

Nelly Darkpaine 08-29-2008 01:53 PM

Actually.. no... we hit 40 and have moved over to WoW. ****

While I love the game, I will say that I think people sometimes are forced to come up with things of their own invention to keep playing...

Like tag, hide and seek, Tormenta Tag (LOL A fun game.. feel free to ask)

But.. the lack of places to explore, and involved new content does leave many players with nothing left but the social aspect of the game.

Agreed - many do make up other activities... and I too wish or new content every day...

I guess 'Weddings' though is more than an activity... espcially since the OP and many others I know have been 'rudely' asked to leave or other things.

If this was a thread of "Have U seen Wierd Things? How about 'Hide and Seek'" I probably would of just posted "yep - game every Thursday" LOL I'm even cool with the 'social aspects' to a degree - but its still a game. :) Weddings / Commitment just kinda goes 'over the line' for me I guess... its a very real life thing in a very non-real life world :D

Scottish 08-29-2008 02:51 PM

i like having my playing partners. That's what they are playing partners. We get online at the same time, we do quest together, we sink ships together. Explain why i would need to be married to that person.

I know sometimes you might already feel like your married to them, because you spend so much time with them, but come on this is just silly.

No offence Nelly, I'm sure your wedding was beautiful and i mean no disrespect towards you. It's the constant barrage of teenies that give other players **** that are just trying to play a game for enjoyment or like me a STRESS REDUCER.

This is just my opinion, please don't take anything I've said personal.

combatlizzy 08-29-2008 03:31 PM

Pirates and marriage don't mix IMHO. And Maximus is correct...POTCO is not a dating site...it's for swashbuckling and sinking ships. Enuff drama in real life without bringing it to POC...But I do have a question bout these marriages...can you also get divorced? lol

If the person marrying you was a REAL Reverend (in REAL LIFE), then you may actually BE really married in real life. Better check the local laws.

Davil 08-29-2008 04:51 PM

Besides, you only see their avatar.Second the person might be lying about, well alot of things. I don't mind people "getting married" but i think dating on Pirates isn't really the purpose on the game. No offense to anyone who is dating on the game and/or dating.

"Reverend" is an adjective like "calm" or "relaxed", not a real liturgical title. Someone with that as their title is a fraud to begin with and does not deserve your (nor anyone's) respect.

Tuefenhandel 08-29-2008 06:07 PM

Ok - I admit it, I have been to a POTCO wedding. I thought it was a gag. Had fun, made a half-hearted attempt at jokes and humor.

But - a very real part of "play" for some (and remember - this is an all ages game) is getting married.

I remember being invited the day my daughter (who was 5 or 6 at the time) decided that our boy dog and girl dog need to be married if they were going to live in the backyard together. Handmade invitation, a veil for the she-dog, cake, a reception (fortunately, they were registered at Wal-Mart and were out of dog food at the time).

Her Barbie dolls have been married so many times to so many different dolls / stuffed animals / items it makes a soap opera look tame.

So, let them play. As for being told to leave, you have to judge the situation for the expected level of maturity of those involved.

Nelly Darkpaine 08-29-2008 07:59 PM

I guess my take is... its a game. We are all playing... its as much 'role playing' as the people who walk around speaking pirate lingo... to each his own, and have fun how you want as long as you treat others with respect.

But.. thats just how I see things. :)

Nautical Nattie 08-29-2008 10:42 PM

I think it's adorable lol. I've been to a pirate wedding but the two people getting 'married' were actually dating in real life and had been in a relationship for a year or so, and they were in their late teens i think. But when it's little kids it's very strange, but very cute :) just let them have their fun i say. In another online game i play there is an option you can click to 'roleplay' in which you create a background for your character, a personality etc and act according to it, so some people just prefer playing along. The younger kids might take it seriously, i get a lot of requests to be wedded and be their gf when i've said about two words to them, but hey that's just kids it's what they are like at that age i guess lol.

P.S. Tormenta Tag? Just hearing the title makes it seem so much fun!

Half the game is hiding... the other half is surviving! LOL :D

Nautical Nattie 08-29-2008 11:27 PM

I want the rules to that game, it sounds fun :) Good thing i'm a good enough level to survive at Tormenta ay lol.

Charlotte Grey 08-30-2008 12:02 AM

BHAHAHAHA a marriage online? WOW. okay.
I've had situations where random guys have asked me out or asked me to be his girlfriend....and my guy friends would go out and pretend to shoot them because they were so annoyed with them haha lol ;)

Nelly Darkpaine 08-30-2008 12:25 AM

Tormenta Tag!

LOL Its actually VERY fun.

You start at the 'wet' entrance of Tormenta... (With the pond thing when you go in) go with a crew of friends, one or two at a time is best. Run in, cutlass, or dagger blazing, hit EVERYTHING you encounter along the way and try to make it OUT the OTHER entrance ALIVE! ****

NO HEALING NO TONICS!

Its a BLAST to follow the two who are 'hitting' as crewmates and watch health meters.

Sounds like a pointless game, but once you try it with a few friends, you will find yourselves cracking up and wanting to go again. Jail is inevitable, but SO fun to watch your friends wail on passing Seabeards then RUN AWAY!

**** Try it, I PROMISE you will have fun!

Nautical Nattie 08-30-2008 12:38 AM

Haha! oh wow, i'm so going to try that with my guild now it sounds so fun, ty! :piratear:

Syon 08-30-2008 12:49 AM

All I can say is Wow

Nelly Darkpaine 08-30-2008 01:45 AM

Its a blast... LOL Like I said... try it before you knock it. Its great for laughs!

We ran out of things to do after hitting 40, so we tend to invent things now! :D

MacIronhawk 08-30-2008 05:10 AM

All I can say is...
A waste of time to go on a game to have a fake wedding.

POTCO is for fun and not about weddings.
Keep it fun really.
What a bore for a make believe wedding.

John Witherspoon 08-30-2008 03:31 PM

ive seen some deranged things on potco but... weddings thats new to me. Never heard of that one. I have a friend his name is Jack O'Hayes and he calls the french undead capitaine "Maggie" his girlfriend and he tries to kill "poogie" the spanish undead Captain.
Maybe hes just crazy....

To each his own! I see some pretty stupid stuff on there myself..
What you consider fun, others may not.

I started a thread some time back about cyber bullying on Pirates... they obviously find it fun. As an adult player myself, I find alot of the behavior that goes on to be incredibly juvenile and sometimes borderline cruel.

If a group of people want to get together for a faux wedding, or a birthday party, or even a meeting, I say, WHY NOT? As long as it doesnt interfere with other peoples enjoyment of the game, and no rules are broken, then I think the paying game users should pretty much be able to invent whatever kind of fun they want.

If you think something is a bore, by all means.. dont do it. I personally always found Hide and Seek to be boring - and I personally don't play it. But, some people love it. I find Grenade leveling boring... but its one of the few things I have left to do.

As for the statement "A waste of time...." well.. isnt the game essentially a waste of time? LOL And once you hit 40, you have NOTHING to do but figure out new ways to waste time - unless you change games, or start a new Pirate. =P

emmalemmalemma 08-30-2008 04:31 PM

Ooh, a birthday party! That's a good idea.. And my birthday is so soon, I totally could do that.

Nelly Darkpaine 08-30-2008 04:52 PM

Exactly! IMO thats what makes this game funner than any other thing you could be playing. Its the social interactions, and the friends you make!

Who's best memories from playing, or best stories DONT involve friends or Guildmates? I guess my point is, however you have fun in game, WHY NOT? Just be nice to each other, and everyone else! =)

Nautical Nattie 08-30-2008 07:23 PM

I tried the Tormenta Tag lastnight with about 8 people from my guild, so much fun! I got through twice, but i also died twice...sounds easy until you get chained by molusks hehe. I then played hide and seek tag in the empty Kingshead, i found it a little boring. Some people have different ways of entertaining themselves, i know two pirates that may have a wedding but it will just be for laughs, others may take it seriously. And yes, the whole game is essentially a waste of time, so why not do a little roleplaying for some fun. So long as it doesn't disrupt other players and is doing no harm like bullying, whatever floats your boat i guess lol.

Nelly Darkpaine 08-30-2008 08:06 PM

Thats the attitude I have... if you are going to be in game, have fun with it. I know several other adult players who have had weddings.. including one real-life married couple. :)

Why not...

And yeah, Tormenta Tag is indeed fun - its almost as fun watching others run through as it is doing it yourself. :)

And, for the record.. no one is talking 'online dating' etc.. but for the time that some people/pirates spend together playing, why not have fun with it.

But this "playin house" getting married stuff is..

Well, I'll leave that to those wanting to play house..

Most pirates are married to the sea by nature.

The strangest thing I've seen in POTCO was a level 2 dude asking Scarlet to be his gf. And getting really upset that she wouldn't talk to him.

Ok, now I must admit I've had my fun with her. That is asking her questions (we already know her answer to).

Captain Del 09-01-2008 11:29 PM

I once attended a wedding without my knowing it was one! My friend said tp to me, and before you know it, i am standing near a fountain in Port Royal in my best pirate clothes attending my best friend's "wedding". Weird thing was, he was lvl 32, and she was lvl 17!
If your pirates are so called "being married" do it with somebody close to your level. All i can say is Wow.

i agree with combat lizzy on this. we have enuff drama in rl to have to worry about coming across some bogus wedding in the game. COME ON PEOPLE it is a game let it be that for us pirates who want to play the game with out all the drama added.

Joseph 09-02-2008 05:48 PM

Yeah i heard somebody talking about a wedding a few days ago i just thought they were nuts lol but i guess they werent

Scottish 09-02-2008 07:45 PM

Haven't been to a wedding, but I have attended several birthday parties of guildmates. We sing happy birthday and dance. Actually it's pretty fun and you make your guildmates day.

Still don't think i would attend a pretend wedding, but whatever people enjoy.

Plunder Hard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Twisted 09-03-2008 08:40 AM

The whole wedding thing I don't get, but that's just me. I do have friends on the game that are girls, one in particular I call "my girl." Even though she is like 1000 miles from me in real life and married to someone. LOL It's just that she has been a friend since I started playing this game and I watch out for her. It's fun to play around with things now and then but the marriage thing is beyond me, just a little too much. Some people I think do take this seriously, and have thoughts about actually meeting others etc. So to those having "fun" with it, just be careful.

lostmymarbles 09-03-2008 09:16 AM

lol.. the marriage stuff is old news..

Saw a wedding months ago.. at the flower arbor that hangs over Valentina on PDF.

Lol, even knew of a "twist tie" marriage... some chick said she had a twist tie husband (another pirate who proposed to her.. but all he had on his desk to offer her was a twist tie). The was verified by the guys brother, who said it was pretty b***sy of him since his real wife was just in the other room when he proposed.

Which goes to show you never know who you are... uh hum... hooking up with.

There's alot of role playing going on... lol ... guys you could be hitting on a teenie.... or someone's grandmother...

one of the more disturbing things i heard was that there is guild full of vampires. And the person who brought it up seemed sincere when he said he was concerned they were out to get certain guilds.

I couldn't help but sit there and laugh at the absurdity of it all.

Leon Mcflint 10-16-2008 07:32 PM

Aye I've actually been invited too a few weddings, I think they can be fun but this game was not made for that... They "wed", as easily as they "divorce". I hope that this doesn't get people thinking that a weding or divorce is that quick and easy. But if pirates really want to "marry" POTCO has not said anything so it's O.K but I strongly suggest not getting married in POTCO...

maxiedoll 10-22-2008 03:08 AM

Dang and I thought the guy telling the 2 girls he was running around with how to dress was odd. Makes you scratch your head at times really lol. I've had people come up asking me to be their mom, sister, daughter or girlfriend and I just remind myself that these are probably kids so I just wander on my merry way. At least they amuse me lol.

Bonnylass64 10-22-2008 02:19 PM

A vampire guild?? Thats cool and strange on a whole different level...Personally I love vamps, as long as they keep their pointy teeth away from my neck

Jack Garrett 10-23-2008 10:11 PM

i'd be afraid to do weddings in-game especially since the Disney-gods seem to have itchy trigger fingers on the suspension buttons.

Red Nations 11-01-2008 09:56 AM

I can see both the positive and negative aspects of these in game BF/GF relationships and Pirate marriages. Took me a while to understand the complexities of it all. At the time I started playing I was at the very end of a long term real life relationship, not looking to get involved with anyone and definately not looking for that sort of thing in the game. The first I heard of a Pirate Wedding or a BF/GF relationship in the game was from a really whacked out lady who stalked my Avatar for about three weeks. I had met her while crewing aboard a friends ship I'd only been aboard for maybe an hour joked around with the crew a bit, during that time I accepted a friend request from her, then went off on my own. The next time I saw her I was out doing some solo plundering and she TP'd aboard my ship uninvited and began some really heavy flirting with my avatar. About 20 minutes later another female pirate friend decided to TP to my ship and this first lady suddenly became insanely jealous threw a tantrum accused me of cheating on her and left the ship. I was left completely puzzled by all of this. Couldn't understand how I could possibly be cheating on someone who I'd known for a little over an hour and was not involved with in or out of the game. About a week later she teleported to me again and I had a talk with her trying to find out what was going on. I still had a difficult time understanding this "in game BF/GF relationship thing, and here she was telling me that she really liked me and that one of the goals in the game was to get married. Well this was the first I'd heard of this. Let me add that she was in her 30's an adult I'm older so both adults. Also in my conversation with her I discovered that she was married in real life and having marital problems. I asked her how she though that having a fantasy relationship with me would help her solve her marital issues? also told her that I was not looking for a relationship in game or otherwise at the time and thought that this would be the end of it. A couple weeks later same scenario she Tp'd to my ship uninvited later another female pirate TP't to my ship unannounced and as soon as I ported the one who was stalking me went after the second gal with a pistol. At which point I made the decision to kick her off my friend list as I didn't want to deal with that sort of insanity.

I've heard of several cases where individuals used the BF/GF thing in game as a way to cheat on spouses. And I agree with some of the statements in this thread that the young kids cannot grasp the concept of commitment involved in a relationship or marriage. I've seen several of these in game relationships fall apart where they seem to break up as easily as they get together. The game isn't a dating service. As to the adult players I can see where people can meet online and become very good friends, most of these ingame relationships don't work out. Playing with another persons emotions is just plain wrong. And some people use this to gain some sort of emotional gratification at the expence of others.

I also know of two couples in the game who are married in real life and also have their pirates married in the game. I'm involved with someone in recent months in real life. We are also both POTC players and all three of my pirates are married to her three pirates in the game, and no not looking for a fantasy relationship our pirate marriages are just an extension of our real life involvment as a couple. So yeah I've seen both the positive and negative aspects of these sort of interactions. A plus to being married in the game is it helps put a stop to all those kids asking to be your BF/GF once you tell em you're allready married LOL.

The whole wedding thing or seeing players type "i need a bf" followed by several "i'm single" just makes me laugh...but since it is an MMO people are always bound to do some fun things when waiting for new content...

For the Krewe...we've done a Pocket Pirate Hide & Seek a few times on Tortuga & KH...was a lot of fun...

a fun one to try would be Pocket Pirate Chess...just need 34 players...2 to call the moves...16 Pocket Pirates for Pawns and 16 others to be the Rooks, Knights, Bishops, Queens and Kings...

would be a blast...

Hey, I was married in the game to another Pirate. He's my best friend, and honestly, the game only was basically a way that we 'met'. We didnt use it to develop a relationship, it was mainly a way that two people who had things in common met (mainly initially we enjoyed the game!)

We got to be best friends and non-stop companions in-game, and that relationship just extended outside the game to the point to where we got closer than expected. Now, we're closer than two people could be, and are very much a RL couple. :) We still play, but the game is a tiny part of our lives now.

I can't say all POTC weddings lead to bad things however. :) I found a best friend, and partner... LOL

Good for you Nelly, thats a point I was trying to make sometimes these things do turn out with happy endings. and not all the people involved with this are losers without a life.

I have been to a wedding, but I've never been married in-game. It's all just for fun.

The one I went to we all had to dress alike. The guys couldn't wear hats, which kinda made me mad cuz I like my hat.

Anyway it was held on a War Frigate. We had to go to end of world cuz somebody was shooting at the ship for nothing and wouldn't stop. He tried to follow us, but a Barrucuda stopped him lol.

After it was over we each gave the couple gold in poker. I was saved because I just told them I was flat broke, which I wasn't but...

In answer to the one that said no one over 15 has married on pirates lol. <snip ~ personal info>. We are very good freinds online. We are in guild together. We play with many and help out many. But we did marry in the game, as a fun thing to do, cuz we are in game play partners. It was fun and we have a great time with it. Just a in game thing but awesome to know u have some one u can really count on all the time.
we have also leveled several 40s between us.

That's what makes me worry.
I hope some of you know you can get banned for doing this.
It may not seem bad but it will be counted as a personal discussion/personal relationship discussion, which Disney doesn't allow.

Besides, from what I've seen in the 'news' online game relationships aren't something you want to get involved with.

I've never seen a wedding in the game. that would be fun to do, in my opinon. then again me and my bf (in rl of course) play all the time together and think that it would be cute if we got married in the game. he probably wont, though lol
