Help Trojan Horse virus??

I tried to log in to pirates today , and my icon wasn't working , when I tried to download the game again , it said there was a trojan horse virus threat and woudn't complete the download. Any one else having this problem ? I sent the virus away to avg for analyses. No word back yet.

You wouldnt happen to have AVG Internet Security would you? or Trend Micro Anti-Virus?

if you have either look at this in the current know issues of POTCO.

- A recent AVG Internet Security update falsely detects Pirates Online's "Launcher1.exe" as a Trojan Horse.
- Workaround: Download the latest definition file from AVG released Sunday, April 27
- Trend Micro Anti-Virus has falsely detected Pirates Online's Launcher1.exe as a Trojan Horse
- Workaround: Download the latest definition file from Trend Micro

EDIT: just noticed u have AVG thats whats causing it download the AVG version released April 27th should do the trick.

Dr. Zeppers 08-20-2008 01:15 AM

Make sure to update your AVG with the latest virus definitions available.
That should clear things up. AVG has falsely detected the "launcher1.exe" before.

Its happened before, im 99.9999999% sure its a 'false positive'.

Why not 100%, well... the files not coming to me, cant be that sure. ;)

Edit: Ooops.. What Chris said!

Cat The Pirate Queen 08-20-2008 01:23 AM

do i need to just update avg ?i did that .

Chris 08-20-2008 01:25 AM

no i think you actually need to downgrade... im not familiar with AVG

Cat The Pirate Queen 08-20-2008 01:27 AM

Sorry not a computer geek, lol so what do i have to do? i did an update but it still warned of virus threat after that . Do i have to uninstall my avg and re-download it , i got avg in june of this year. thanks

Charlotte Grey 08-20-2008 01:28 AM

Wow, that's pretty sad!

Cat The Pirate Queen 08-20-2008 01:28 AM

could i just shut off my avg for a few minutes and download pirates again?

Cat The Pirate Queen 08-20-2008 01:30 AM

You making fun of me charolette, just because im technically challenged?

Chris 08-20-2008 01:30 AM

not gonna work bc when u try to launch it it will block it give me a few mintues to look into AVG.

EDIT: no i dont think she is making fun of you i think she is saying that you have to DOWNGRADE a program for disneys game.

Cat The Pirate Queen 08-20-2008 01:32 AM

Oh thank you, thank you , i need my fix i haven't played for over an hour now. Sniff Sniff, pity me. lol

Chris 08-20-2008 01:34 AM

lol from what ive read i think u last updated it today? if so that would be why you got the new version which doesnt like pirates.

im on the AVG homepage and i cant find a link to the past versions for you to downgrade.

EDIT: i think i found it but the last one was august 19th O_o

EDIT2: ok i cant find it sorry :9 zep this is where u take over :p

Cat The Pirate Queen 08-20-2008 01:44 AM

Ohh it does updates by itself , hmmmm..... so if it is an update causing trouble,do I find an older version and download??? Won't the updates mess me up again?
Is there a way to restore, ignore... ??? and download anyway, without AVG sending it to quarentine..? Remember at this point I am just rying to download and install again... I'm lost .............?????
I have Norton on my other computer, should I rid AVG and put Norton here...? Or is there other good free, anti virus program.... would not all of you running avg have the same problem...??

Chris 08-20-2008 01:47 AM

Honestly install norton first then un-install AVG bc pirates and AVG dont like each other. This may be the simplest way to go bc i dont know much about AVG and if it does update itself then if u fix it it might update itself so you will always fight this issue.

Cat The Pirate Queen 08-20-2008 01:51 AM

ok thanks a bunch you guys , im gonna give it a shot , wish me luck

Chris 08-20-2008 01:54 AM

heh good luck bc virus programs are a PAIN O_o im just saying install one before un-installing the other i guess just so nothing gets through :D but i really hate virus programs.

And your welcome

BadBones X 08-20-2008 09:49 AM

I am having the same problem...

As is mentioned above, this has happened to me in the past as well. However, I would highly discourage any "downgrading" of your AVG just for this game. It will resolve itself through another update just as before.

Until then, I know it sucks but just hang in there. Maybe...go outside or something.

This is unfortunately an uneducated response.

Its a false positive detection by AVG, it is not in 'this' case a dangerous virus like HorusForce is stating.

Pirates Online does NOT have a Trojan Horse virus in it.

Chris 08-20-2008 10:50 PM

I agree thats an overstatement it was FALSELY found as a trojan horse nothing more.

_kaytay_ 08-20-2008 10:56 PM

yes cause i updated my avg and my game works again

Davil 08-20-2008 11:19 PM

Most online services don't like Pirates online i think. never seems to anyways.

LOL I sound like I'm a cat , got fixed lol, OK hey guys, yup I got rid of avg , and put Norton on this computer too, and problem solved .I had avg for about two months and it worked fine until the upgrade the other day. Once it upgraded that day I had problems, maybe if I would have waited , gone outside maybe , LOL, it would have been resolved the next update, but the Norton seemed to do the trick . Thanks again for all your help guys. I am a happy Pirate Cat again.:dancetl6:
