The Pirates of the Caribbean Online Beta test has officially begun! Claim your Beta test account within the next 7 days and start playing the latest game build immediately!

http://disney.go.com/pirates/online/...come_image.gif
Please keep in mind that the game is not yet finalized. You may see unfinished graphics and hear unfinished audio, and also may experience crashes, dropped connections, or other issues that will affect your gaming experience. As we continue to improve and refine the game, we need your opinions and feedback to help identify issues within the game and prepare it for public launch! During the Beta test, we encourage you to submit feedback on the game and report any technical bugs you may encounter.

To begin playing, please use the Beta Account Key and instructions listed below.

To set up your account, please complete the following steps:
  1. Click here to visit the Pirates of the Caribbean Online Beta web site
  2. Enter the Beta Account Key listed below:

  1. Beta Account Key: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
  2. Login using your existing account name or create a new account.

  1. Please note: The Pirates of the Caribbean Online Beta test requires all testers to enter a valid credit card as proof that they are over 18 years of age or have parental consent to participate in the Beta. Your credit card will not be charged.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the registration process and download the game launcher.
  3. Once the download is complete, double-click on the Pirates Online icon to finish the installation and log in to play.
  4. Congratulations - You are now ready to play Pirates of the Caribbean Online BETA!
The Beta test is officially open:

- Thursday and Friday: 5 pm to 5 am (PT)
- Saturday and Sunday: 9 am to 9 pm (PT)

During the Beta, we will also coordinate Stress Tests--where we will encourage all players to log in during a specified time to test the stability and capacity of the game. You can find out about these scheduled tests and get the latest release notes, server status, and gameplay tips on the Pirates Online Beta web site.

Please Note: Prior to creating a Beta account, we strongly recommend that you verify your computer meets the minimum requirements for the Beta test as listed below:
  • PC running Windows XP
  • 2 GHz or faster processor
  • 1 GB RAM
  • 128 MB video card
Thank you for participating in the Pirates of the Caribbean Online Beta test - we'll see you in the game!

Woah here... I signed up when I first heard about it and I never got this email or the other one about BETA testing. Should I call Disney and report my problem?

Schmoofy 03-13-2007 09:36 PM

This is going to be epic beyond belief. I didn't get a beta key yet, but I've been getting the newsletters. Hopefully I'll get a key :D

FoolsLove 03-13-2007 09:38 PM

I didn't get my key either. I know I have gotten a couple newsletters, I think. Signed up with another e-mail to see if either of them get the key. Can't wait to start playing.

How do I create a Pirate?

After you log in, you can create your Pirate using the Make-A-Pirate interface.

How do I get around the game?

You can get around by walking, swimming, or by sailing on a ship.

What are the controls for moving my avatar and accessing my weapons?

You can control your pirate by using the following keys:

W: move forward
A: move left
S: move backward
D: move right -OR- Up Arrow: move forward
Left Arrow: move left
Down Arrow: move backward
Right Arrow: move right

Normally, the mouse will control your view of the game. In this mode, the pointer will not be visible. Attack enemies by left-clicking, and choose special attacks by right-clicking. Use the number keys to choose different weapons.

Press the Tab key to activate the pointer. When the pointer is visible you can click buttons on the screen.

Press the Control key to board a ship, steer a ship or man a cannon. Press the Escape key to exit ship steering or to leave a cannon.

How do I join a crew?

To invite a Pirate to join your crew, walk up, and click on them. You'll see an interface in the corner of your screen which includes the option to invite that Pirate to join your crew.

How do I meet other Pirates?

You can meet other Pirates by inviting them to join your crew, by playing card games with them, or by battling enemies alongside them. You can also interact with them using the Speed Chat.

How does chat work?

Chat can take the form of in-game "Speed Chat," which uses ready-made words and phrases. Pirates of the Caribbean Online also includes open chat, which can be enabled by an adult or a parent.

The chat buttons can be found in the top left corner of the screen.

How do I get a Beta key?

To gain access to the Pirates of the Caribbean Online beta, register here.

Why do I need a Beta key?

Because the software is in development, we are restricting access. The Beta key ensures that we can support the game's population and still gain valuable insight into the game's features.

What does Beta mean? It's the second letter in the Greek alphabet, and typically used in the software industry to indicate that the software is in its pre-release testing phase.

Can I post screenshots or information about the game?

No. Publishing any information to the Internet or to any other location or any other medium will result in your expulsion from the Beta program, and may result in other corporate disciplinary action.

Does it cost anything to play during Beta?

No.

I had a problem with installing the game. What do I do?

You can submit a bug report from the Web site by using this form.

I had a problem in-game. What do I do?

You can submit a bug report using the “Report a Bug” button found on the Pirates of the Caribbean Online start-up program.

I had a problem with another Pirate. What do I do?

You can submit a customer service inquiry by using this form.

I lost my Beta key. What do I do?

To recover a lost Beta key, contact customer service by using this form.

Here are the FAQ posted on the BETA site. You wanna make sure that you don't post any screenshots, unless you are willing to take the risk.

So according to that, beta experiences and screen shots can't be shared. That really annoys me, I need to wait for my beta key to see inside now. I'm hoping it's worth the wait.

Sidestep 03-14-2007 01:20 AM

Like everyone else, no key. I wonder when everyone gets them.

Also, hi LD. <_<

PirateSkull 03-14-2007 01:27 AM

I registered another email, I hope I get a key! I was sad thinking I didn't get a key, but I can't confirm that yet!

Bo.Shwah 03-14-2007 01:28 AM

Yeah when do we get the key? It's this thursday, friday, saturday, and sunday that the beta is happening? Does that mean we will be getting our key wednesday or thursday? Or, are people already playing?

PirateSkull 03-14-2007 01:30 AM

If you login in here, it will tell you if you currently have a key or not.

Yeah, i tried that...i dont have a key yet. Grrr, i want pictures from people who are already playing.....wish the rules didn't say you can't post pictures.

Kaironzet 03-14-2007 01:36 AM

If you are chosen to be a part of the Beta team, you should have aleady recieved an email notification confirming you were selected, otherwise you will have to wait a bit and see if they keep on choosing Beta testers, otherwise, you're out of luck. However, I strongly believe that they will still be giving Beta spots to people.

I already recieved mine, however, my Beta key has been delaying to arrive, and that's why I sent a question using the feedback form about it and I was notified that they are sending Beta keys to people as they make space for more users to log into the game, so here's when your patience is put to practice.

Hope it helped in any way,
Karo

Sphooky 03-14-2007 01:39 AM

I hope I get my key soon.

yeah i recieved the email saying beta has begun, what days, etc. In it, it says that i need to click on link below to get my registration key. When doing that, i had to take the disney member thing i have (used for vmk and other disney sites), and log in, waiting for my registration beta key or w/e. So, now i'm confused and waiting for a key.

Lassie 03-14-2007 01:49 AM

Patience is the key here. I know that we are all excited and can't contain ourselves about the Beta testing of POTCO, but at this point in time we are going to have to. Just be sure to check your e-mail daily :).

Disney has to email you a specific Beta key, they vary with the user. If you haven't recieved an email from Disney yet confirming you were chosen to be part of the Beta team, then you won't be recieving one anytime soon.

If you have recieved the email confirming you were chosen for the game's Beta but did not recieve your key yet, be patient and wait until you are sent the Beta key, they are sending them as they create space on their server(s).

Hope it helped!

You get a Beta key only if you are chosen to Beta test. It will appear in an email and look like this: Beta Account Key: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX, X's representing the substituted code. There is a different key code for every account. The key is your one way ticket to the game at this stage.

So far there are no such badges. I've answered you that same question on another thread. In case they decide to implement the same system VMK has implemented, then you will be informed about it at the proper time.

Hope it helped!

I believe there are people who are already playing the game. I've seen someone posting over at VMK Forums about being already in and speaking about some technical issues the game currently has. However, more Beta testers are added as days go by so more and more people will go accessing the game within the next few weeks.

Oooh! I really can't wait! This game looks highly detailed and has lots of action. I'm definatly paying for this one! This is going to replace my Toontown, I'm for sure!

If you play VMK then use the same username and password you use to play VMK. Because you're already signed up at Disneyland.com once you sign up for POTCO.

Garfieldo 03-14-2007 05:23 AM

Nope, no key for me. Only something about voodoo. Fuuuuuun.

Maleficent_Rocks 03-14-2007 05:41 AM

Arg, been waiting forever and I'm not chosen for beta yet again. LOL.

Oh well, I can wait, I didn't die over VMK...

Anyone have an "official" launch date?

Pirate Shadow Knuckles 03-14-2007 06:49 AM

You can either play it for free and have limited things to do. Or pay for the whole game, and do anything you want. Just like Toontown.

Remindes me of Runescape O_o..

Free is my favorite thing so im still in xD

PirateSkull 03-14-2007 08:56 AM

I'll probobly do free for a while, till I finished everything I can do on free, then upgrade.

Lassie 03-14-2007 12:48 PM

I don't know the official launch date from Beta, but my guess would be from now to April. It may take longer than expected and the bugs may be worse that expected also. All we can do is keep checking the release info.

Devin 03-14-2007 02:54 PM

Does anybody have some Voodoo screenshots they can share? That seems wickedly awesome. :D

Qui-gon 03-14-2007 03:24 PM

Bleh, I registered today but I won't get in until Summer. I know because I got an e-mail from them saying "we'll see you in a few moons" and "we'll speak to ye soon, matey!". That's fine, it really isn't that long to wait. At least I know.

Don't fret about not playing right now. If you don't have 1 gb of computer memory, forget about playing without problems. Can't play the game without it freezing every second. Of course, that's why it is in beta at the moment....

Yea I'm pretty sure the game will be much more smoothed out by the time it reaches open public.

olpmcgvmk 03-15-2007 01:13 AM

well ill bet a few Spanish doubloons that it wont run on XP only VISTA which stinks because i wont update till they get all of the worms out. I beta tested it! I crashed a million times. I had to end my test because it effected work.

P.S. Srry for ranting

Andy 03-15-2007 12:48 PM

Darn, please whoever get s a key today or in the next few days, let us know so that we can see if Disney have pause issuing out beta keys.
Also, can anyone tell me if someone has been accepted into beta under 18 or living outside the US? Thanks :D

Davy 03-15-2007 01:08 PM

Do you have to be 18+ to get in? If so, I'm making an 18+ account pronto lol, I want to be day one lol. Are keys usable multiple times? If so, let's try it!

TravisSch 03-15-2007 01:12 PM

I tried signing up but the site won't accept my email address. It is the same email address I use for VMK and I would think it would work.

Apparantly not, you have to be either 18 or have permission from a parent/guardian. You have to prove this by entering a valid credit card number.

Ducky Wucky 03-15-2007 04:05 PM

Well, I still haven't gotten my key. But I'm sure that Disney is just slowly handing them out. No worries.

ASuperStitch 03-15-2007 04:27 PM

From what I have read here the beta keys are gone, I am sad, I did get my registration in but very late. I sure hope that there is another wave of beta players brought into the game and hope I can be one of them. I missed beta for some of the other games and was hoping to be one of the first to play this one but alas it appears it is not to be. Still hoping though, lol.

Indianajo75 03-15-2007 04:29 PM

WHAT???

I GOT AN EMAIL!

And now it's worthless :(

Grooveygrl 03-15-2007 05:23 PM

May i ask but what is a beta key?? :S

Andy 03-15-2007 05:27 PM

A code that allows you to participate in the beta of the game.

Grooveygrl 03-15-2007 05:34 PM

Oh and how do you obtain them?

Andy 03-15-2007 05:40 PM

You have to be subscribed to the newsletter from the official website. Whether players are selected at random, age, birth place, or the first people signing up to the newsletter is completely out of me!

That's exactly the answer. We don't know how or why or what the system for choosing beta testers is, so we can only hope.

Andy 03-15-2007 05:57 PM

Yup, I'm sure they will be constantly letting a few of us in every now and again. And hey, there's always open beta. But I reckon these closed beta invites will be weekly!

Bo.Shwah 03-15-2007 09:01 PM

Yeah i'm still waiting for my beta key...it's 5:00, that stress test/official beta test started.

Does your Dad realize he will have to use his credit card later on anyway (eventually you're probably going to want to at least try the paying version of the actual game)?

Either a select few have been chosen. Or they just haven't sent them all out yet.

Let's wait until we get a bit more information about the keys.

timmyastro 03-16-2007 11:05 PM

I hate how they announced this to few people and expect everyone else to wait while these 'few' people are 'worthy' to play. They should have had all the keys prepared though.

I'm sure when they are ready to release beta to more people, they will do that. They need to treat the game very gently at the moment. There are a lot of things they need to work out on and can probably only do so much with x amount of players logged in. Remember, VMK had it's closed beta period as well too before they opened beta to everybody. Think about all the bugs that VMK had back then...

Neither of my accounts are authorized to go to beta it said so in the log in. Barnacles.

Nope, it's closed beta, meaning invite only for the most part.

DID they even announce it?

I think they should have a Stress Test soon... its more inviting, I signed up for this waaaay back as well, and I expected something by this time.

once again, I get let down by POTC, just like those countless days trying to get Sparrow costume in VMK.

An open beta would basically be opening the game. I imagine within the next week, however, that they will give keys out to everyone who signed up for the e-mails to let them get a sneak into the game before the general public does.
