Pirates Of The Burning Sea
Anyone here play Pirates of The Burning Sea? I just started it this week and its pretty cool. Much harder then Disneys version and no undead but its more true to pirating and loads more to do. I will still play the Disney one as I paid a year for it but I can hop on this one till DIsney comes out with new stuff lol.
If anyone else does Im on Roberts Sever I play on the British side. |
I have been looking at that game and wondering how good it was. Could you tell me more about it? The graphics and clothes look better than Disney but I really cant tell from the screenshots if that is real or just from the trailer. I would appreciate it. Kani
|
i purchases it but havnt install yet. let me know how good it is. maybe i'll play it then
|
geez, its 15 dollars a month! im paying for enough already! it looks cool, though
|
I havent tried it yet, but read up on it some.
Its more of a full on mmorg style game like WOW, and those types. Player based economy, you need to make and sell things. I saw a list of how to make a number of items involved. Seemed complicated to me. Only a pistol and a sword for weapons as I understand it. If your looking for a full blown mmorg, then ya probably would want to give it a shot. But it like most full blown mmorgs is $15/month, and try as I might I could NOT find any discount cards or options anywhere for it. |
I play it off and on. Cancelled my subscription then started playing again. I enjoy playing it. It is more difficult than POTCO but it is also more realistic. I'm still not into the full blown economy aspect yet as I only play about once a week and mainly just go on to pay the upkeep on my buildings then go sailing to plunder more dubloons to cover my upkeep costs. My character has reached level 23 with limited play. I play on Rackham server when I'm on. Character is Grizzly Badbonez, Cutthroat Pirate.
|
I love the game there is so much more to do than Disney's and you can may options to choose from. No lag issues, sure there are glitches but they actually fix them. It is much harder then POTC and the graphics are much better. You do need a more recent video card for it. I have not seen any discounts for the game except to pay in advanced like POTC. When you do buy the game initially you get 30 days of free play. I think most stores sell the game for like 20-40 bucks not sure but I got it new on Amazon for 10 lol. When my year is up on Disney's and they do not fix the annoying soldiers or add anything to do for over level 40 I may just drop them and stick with this one.
|
You dont even have to buy the game, you can download it, and pay to start (instead of getting 30 days free). They have no "free" account play that im aware of.
I studied it quite a bit thinking about it. But the economy process alone made the game completely unappealing to me. |
I like the economy part of the game and the ship battles are cool too. Now I think the one on one combat with the creatures in Disneys version is loads of fun and would be perfect if they would fix the floating officers and sea beards. Zepper if you can download the game for free without paying PM me and I have a 14 day free account that a friend was going to use but his video card is too old. My as well let someone use it.
|
I want to play it but it's not out for the mac! :smiley40:

Thanks Am :)
I'll give it a go this evening, I downloaded the 5gb client last night.. lol |
I was a tester for the game for quite a while and I have to say its one of the best games ive played.
|
Great Zep I look forward to seeing you there. Thats if you settle where I am lol.
|
Hmm....
Pirates of the burning sea. I hear it's ship combat stinks but other than that it's fun. And yah harder than POTCo. I'd like to play it but I don't know if it's free or not. If it was free i'd try it out. I hear it's much bigger than POTCO. P.S. POTCO was open before POTBS so they could get more players. I wish they waited so the game would be better. |

Led Zeppliani is my character name. lol Graphics are way cool, gonna explore a bit. Thanks |
Well get on the nation chat and yell you are here lol.
|
i guess i will hav to load it and check it out. wipe the dust off the box lol
|
AM, you were right about that 2hours+ of downloading... I couldnt believe it. Client was already 5-7gbs! Although I think alot of what it downloaded wasnt additional, but patchs to existing files. I was shocked when I saw a "Play" button. lol

I may not have access to it is as a "limited" access trial member. It gave me a big list of what I cannot do as a trial member, but at that time, most of what it said didnt mean alot yet to me hehe. Seemed to me some common sense stuff that wouldnt let me get too involved in any economy portions of the game. Also defeating me, etc in the game apparently does not reward anyone. The few other "players" I saw in town ignored me completely (as I probably would have done them). It seems that regular players have gold names there, and us trial members have white names. Tonight i'll leave port and see if I can find another city/town to explore. I just remembered, the town it put me in was the town of "Jenny Bay" |
Yep Jenny Bay is the starting point for the British Nation. I never noticed the colors over the names much except the NPCs have one color, Players are green I think and your society folks are blue.I do have you in my friend list so I will see if I can find you. There are a lot of players that do not talk but the game is full of international players too so that may have something to do with it. I'm really starting to love the game. It does cost more then Disney's but at least I have no lag factor you have over 50 ships to choose from and can own 5. You have 80 ports to explore too. Well hopefully the limited access doesn't mean you can't talk to people. There are certain chat windows that only certain careers can access like Conquest is for for battle, trade is for the free traders. The chat window takes time to get use to.

For anyone moving from POTCO to Burning Sea, we have most of our guild (Blades of Daring) now playing that game, with a few more stagglers coming soon. So if you're looking to reconnect with some POTCO players, feel free to drop me a tell in game or send me a mail, Kathrynne Merivel - I rolled British FT on Antigua. If you're looking for a Society to join, all POTCO emigres are welcome :) or if you just want some help in the game we're here.
Also, if anyone is curious about checking out the game but is a little deterred by the purchase of the actual game plus the $15 a month price tag, I have some buddy keys that I don't mind sharing with POTCO players. That will give you 14 free days, plus the 30 free you get for buying the game. All I can say is that the game is unbelievable, although there are having some small problems with people complaining about the population imbalance right now on the various servers. Your server selection is really important. For instance, if you're a US player, make sure that you choose a US Server (Antigua, Rackham, Blackbeard) and European players are mainly on Roberts. Although at the moment, Antigua is the hot spot and Blades of Daring all just transferred from Roberts to Ant and we've found a nice new home. Antigua has the best balance of players right now compared to the other servers, so just keep this in mind when rolling your character. US players should generally stick with the US Servers simply for when it comes time to actually playing during your normal hours, people will actually be on and playing. When we were on the European server, it was dead since our prime time is in the middle of the night for them. Then, when you actually do something that effects the all the nations (such as grinding ports for unrest and all that, Port Battles, etc) the Europeans whine that it's not fair since they're all sleeping and can't defend their ports, blah blah blah, they call this night flipping. Which, I understood, which is part of the reason why we all switched It's a pain to hear them moan about it, so my advice is to just skip the messiness and go where the people are. If anyone has any questions about the game, feel free to contact me. Kat Blades of Daring on the Burning Sea |
Thanks am1974 for the opportunity to try POTBS. I enjoyed it the brief time I was able.
The graphics were beautiful, the game was huge. I sailed from Jenny Bay, Guyana (i think it was) to Biloxi, Louisiana my first couple of times in the game! There appeared to be all sorts of quests one could do, and probably redo, loads of content. However there were downsides I found. Player interaction is nearly zero if your not in a clique in the game somewhere. The only time I had any interaction with anyone in the game (other than chatting with am1974 a few times) was being forced into SvS (pvp) mode while just trying to get from one place to another. Ok this could be avoided, by sailing round the pvp arena (which moves throughout the map regularly). Ok, get sunk once.. ready to start my trip again, and boom another guy does it the second I leave port. (basically not letting anyone leave the port) This was my only experience with players in the game. I found the interface clunky and unappealing, as was anything to do with battle, sword fighting, sea battles, etc. I felt like a key jockey, not a swashbuckling pirate. There was no fluidity to the battles, seemed very halting. A key masher would go absolutely nuts trying to play this game. Click a key, wait 3 seconds, click a key wait 3 seconds... ug Im not a keymasher, but this was boring and there was no skill involved such as click speed/combination. Communications requires a huge ugly box that covers 2/3rds of your screen (dont plan on any chat and play at same time), it can be resized, but then sentences are hard to read 2 words at a time. Also prepare yourself for advertisments in chat. advertising selling levelup services... why level up your character when you can pay someone else to do it? My overall impression, it has a startlingly beautiful world to explore, seemingly endless. It was fun to explore, but the game action was very clunky and leaves alot to be desired. The players environment unfriendly. It's an interesting game to be sure, however I would say at 14.99 a/month, get the Sony multipass or whatever so you can play thier other games as well, this one alone isnt worth it. (IMO) Thanks again for the chance am1974! (darn glad I didnt buy it to find out) |
Thx Zep for the info. I bought the game earlier but never downloaded it. I just finished canceling my account :)
Thx zep:) |
I had seen this game at Wal-Mart and had wondered about it. Let me know what you think of it, Zeppers. I'd like to know if you think it would be worth it.
Thanks for starting this thread! |
I played it for a few months after it first come out. Its a really good game if you have a newer computer and fast internet because it lags really bad if you dont. And if you have a lot of time to download updates for it cause they took forever to finish. I would definitely not play the blackbeard sever it has the most people on it (or at least it did when i played it) and the more people the more lag it has. If you dont like ship battles i wouldnt buy it because thats what it mostly is about. Theres a lot more clothes you can buy and you can have a peg leg lol. Theres lots more ships and you can paint them, you can make your own sails for your ship (which i love doing lol). Its definitely worth trying it out.

I dont want to completely disenchant anyone.. Anyone with an opportunity at the free trial I highly recommend giving it a go.
I gave "My opinion", and I know that my opinion is not always the popular one. It is a beautiful game, the game play definately didnt work that well for me. Hey you sailors, that dont like the winds blowing in all directions in POTCO? The wind only blows one way in POTBS (but it does shift/change direction) I did find that just sailing and looking around in the game was fun. |
I was a Beta tester in POTBS but didn't preorder and stopped playing when they went live. Too expensive for me lol and there was no individual cannon on ship, arrgh i love my cannon.
What i really like is the forum where devs and players can communicate and discuss the game. I hope one day Disney delegate one or two devs here as representative. That'll be cool. Btw, during Beta the walking/running animation for male character in POTBS was very feminine did they fix this? |

My Thoughts
Seeing as this has become an open forum, here are my opinions on the game.
I've been playing Burning Sea since the beginning of July and from day one I've been hooked on the game. One of the biggest differences from POTCO is the learning curve. You can't jump right into the game and know everything. It takes time and patience to both learn and understand Burning Sea, as it's so involved. When someone had first told me that about the game, I'll admit, I was a little intimidated. But seeing as my entire guild was starting out together in a strange new place it made the learning experience relatively painless. It definitely does help to have some people learning the ropes along with you, or to have people who are already experienced with the game teaching you what to do. As far as it being more along the lines of a traditional MMO, it is definitely that. You interact more with your environment. You actually go into instances, which are little battles. Think of the Boss Battle times 1000. Each career line has 1000 missions, each one with different enemies to fight and quests to complete along the way. Unlike Pirates where there is only one main boss, thus far. So, four career lines, 4000 missions. Also, the missions are what I like to call 'Choose Your Own Adventure Style', the choices that you make in the missions effect the direction of your character. Which is really nice. You get various rewards for completing these from clothing, to weapons, to skills, etc. What you earn in the game actually serves a purpose. As far as the economy in the game goes, it's definitely involved. You can choose to simply purchase your needed items from the Auction House, or if you'd like, you can manufacture goods for yourself, your society, or to sell for profit, whatever you like. Your involvement in the actual economy is completely up to you. And yes, with the production of goods, ships, and all that, there is a lot to be done, but your Society is supposed to be there to help you along. Everyone producing the various materials needed, or at least those who want to. You earn money quickly in the game, so that's not really a problem. The game play itself is an absolute pleasure. The lag is minimal, even on a busy server - and the server that I play on, Antigua, is the busiest at the moment. And the glitches...forget it. Nothing like we see in Pirates. No quick cheats. No exploits in the system for people to easily coast through the game. Which I really like. Also, as far as the leveling up goes, it's a breeze. Honestly. No mindless button mashing to level various weapons. Yes, you are given less weapons in this game, but it doesn't even make a difference. You can purchase upgraded weapons - swords, daggers, pistols, grenades, etc - or again you earn them through missions as rewards. Everything in this game serves a purpose. Loot from sinking ships: This game gives you the option for rolling on any loot that you get from sinking an enemy vessel. You can win with the highest roll or you can simply pass on anything that you don't want. Which keeps your cargo hold from filling - something that irked me to no end in Pirates. You take only what you want/need. And even though you do not get to actually man a cannon (something that initially worried me) after a few days you don't even notice. You're not a simple crewman, but a captain on Burning Sea. Ordering your crew to do what you wish, fire when you wish, use certain ammo, certain skills. And although this sounds complicated, you pick up on it quickly enough. Customization: This game also has a tailor as well. But unlike on Pirates, you do not have to pay to change your clothing, your hair, your eye color, things like that. It's all free. Right down to the eye patch and the peg leg which you earn through a quest. Completing missions for your career line also grants you further customization options. And yes, we have pets as well. With the ships, you can change the name, the color, the flag that you fly as well as the sails. And with the flag and sails, there's a great system in place that allows you to create your own designs and use them in the game, which is really fantastic. I heard this gripe countless times in Pirates, and Burning Sea offers precisely that. Historically based game: This is not a fantasy game. There are no undead creatures running around. No staffs or voodoo dolls. Yes, we get fewer weapons in this game, but the weapons that we are given (pistols, cutlasses, grenades, maces, etc) can constantly be upgraded with different skills and attacks earned as you level. Options, options, options: You can roll as British, Spanish, French, or Pirate. Choose to be a Naval Officer, Privateer, or a Freetrader. Each option gives you a new facet of the game to explore. Each career level - NO, Privy, or FT - allows you to take your character in a different direction. And since the leveling comes so quickly, you can definitely explore them all. Friendly Players: I have yet to run into a problem with people not interacting with one another. My own society has connections with quiet a few others, despite our lower levels compared to the level 50s (current highest level). Within your nation, reguardless of what side you choose, they're very welcoming to new players of all types. We've gotten countless invitations to join other societies, other societies simply offering to help us level and build our economy for the good of the nation. I think that within the nation, everyone is friendly. However, for example, if you're British, don't expect a 'hello' from a Pirate or a Spaniard. That's just how it goes. User Interface: You can customize exactly how your screen appears. You can change the font colors in the chat, change the actual size of the chat box, move it to where you like. You choose where you compass goes, where your hot bar for your skills is, all of that. You can customize your screen to appear however it is that you want it to be. So, if your chat is taking up too much space, change it - shrink it, move it, adjust it how you want. I don't want to sit here and simply just complain about Pirates, I don't want anyone to get the wrong idea. I honestly loved the game when I first started playing it, but for me, after a while it simply got old. Repetitive. Boring. Pirates was my first try into an online game and it simply left me for looking more. But the one thought that has been constant through my mind while playing Burning Sea is that Pirates Online plays out like a tutorial for this game. The actual tutorial for Burning Sea is more involved than all of Pirates - more challenging, more exciting, more stimulating. And yes, I've said that before. Burning Sea is simply everything that Pirates Online needs to be, wishes it could be, and should be to survive as a game. I left Pirates with a heavy heart, leaving behind a level 40 and a level 30, although since leaving I haven't regretted it in the slightest. Like I have mentioned in my post above, if anyone is interested, my buddy keys are up for grabs if someone is looking to try out the game for 14 days for free. Just PM me and I'll get back to you - no strings attached. Kat - Blades of Daring on Burning Sea |

Burning Sea came out 2 months prior to Pirates. Besides, trust me, BS did not steal any ideas from Pirates. Name one.

if you still dont beleive me then i wont try to change your mind |
Is that a serious post?
Firstly, and I'm not starting a flame war here, but didn't Pirates -just- get privateering as the added content for their "big summer update"? That's an entire class in Burning Sea. And please don't try and tell me that Disney has cornered the market on ship battles and sword fights and pistols - no other game has this sort of content? Also...Pirates? I doubt that POTCO was the first game to have these. Sid Meier anyone? And I really hate to spoil the party here, but neither Burning Sea nor Pirates were the first game to have guilds or levels. There is no exclusive copy write on any of the points that you mentioned. Excuse the sarcasm or don't. The games share similar content, that much is true. But to say that one stole from the other, or vice versa, is ridiculous. But, and I'll own up to a mistake when I make one, POTCO did in fact launch two months before Burning Sea did. But I seriously doubt that they altered their content to compete simply because one game came out first. I truly think that both games appeal to two different types of gamers - one is more so geared for younger gamers(hence the 10+ rating) and the other is rated T for older players. They knew their target audiences, with some switches here and there - younger players playing Burning Sea and adults playing POTCO. But I just don't believe that either game has stolen or will steal from the other in the future. Again, similar content worked in two completely different ways. Before you pass judgment on Burning Sea for stealing, perhaps you should try it first and see just how truly different it is. |
i wont bother with this anymore its your opinion and you have your right to that ( unless you live in canada lol ) we each have our own opinion and neither can be right they COULD of stole or they COULD OF NOT who knows not me
|
Please don't then. I will gladly agree to disagree. :pirate2:
|
I dont think anyone stole anything from anybody.
They are very different other than genre. The fact you had to 'work' at it makes it, well work. Not something I personally associate with fun and games. Now I didnt have the luxury of a bunch of guildmates learning the game with me, I didnt have anyone offer to help even when I asked (other than the one person that gave me the trial, and I didnt want to bug her). It was offered that I meet them once, but I had to sail half way across the world to get to them and got forced into several pvp matchs just trying to get to where they were in a reasonable amount of time. I even got spoken to rudely when I didnt know how to defend myself in the pvp battle I got drawn into against my will. I would definately NOT say this is what POTCO should be, and its definately not what POTCO wants to be. Maybe in scope and size only, but not in play style or its economy. POTCO better never be that. Whats with the game having advertisements in open chat for leveling your pirates for cash? I thought that pitiful. Am1974 told me she logged in to pay her dues, or rent or something on her property, sounds like a cyberlife to me.. lol. Those 14 day passes by the way are like a 14 day basic account on potco (not like a 14 day unlimited pass). Cant communicate on the global/national chat for example. Cant do alot of things.. may be part of why I didnt enjoy the experience very much. |
