Countering the invincibility and auto repair

I got on a server this afteroon and went to Aviricia to finish part of the Spanish quest. I saw two of the ships on my team glitching. I joined the French side and on a hunch sailed in close and used grape shot. They still sunk me, but I DAMAGED their ship.

I switched sides, then went to the Privateering channel and recruited the other captains and told them I had a way around it (wasn't for sure, but it was worth a try). We crewed 12 people and everytime we got near the opposition we started with grape shot. It WORKED. We took them down while they were repairing and then sunk their cheating....donkeys.

So, if you find a ship glitching (other than the rock glitch), use grape shot first to take out the player, then sink their ....donkey.

Good Job Racket love it. Yeah the suckers that use this cheat on our guild and myself we got back at them the right way no cheating and sunk them over and over lol.

Rackat 08-02-2008 02:02 AM

We had four ships to their 7 and we pwned them. It was gratifying! I love to hear that "thud" when they hit the deck. By the time I logged off, there were six of us to 5 of them, and all I heard on the Privateer channel was "Grapeshot first!"!! LOL

You sir, are the hero of the day! The dead-fish flopping on the floor sound is immensely satisfying.

Swash 08-02-2008 02:50 AM

Woo hoo cheaters will die

Bella 08-02-2008 03:43 AM

You my dear have just made my day!!!! Thank you for the info. I will be sure to share it with all those I meet in SvS!!

AdmiralSavvy 08-02-2008 03:48 AM

Haha thanks for sharing this Rackat, you know what they say, cheaters never win. :D

Maximvs 08-02-2008 04:32 AM

Bravo Rackat :D Even in my ill state this deserved a post of gradititude and for everyone to spread the word :)

mlratto 08-02-2008 04:44 AM

awesome find

We crewed 12 people and everytime we got near the opposition we started with grape shot.

just wanna make sure i understand.

so you were on a boat with 12 gunners shooting grape shot?

first, that's awesome you GOT a full crew :psmiley27:and i would think the odds would be greatly in your favor for taking out a boat with a single captain.

your solution is awesome for that scenario....and i'm jealous you found it before me:laughks2:

so if i understand correctly, if i was out soloing and found a ship where i could employ this tactic...i would have to get close enough to effectively use grape shot and then take out the captain (assuming he's solo) then sink the ship.

(scratches head)

ya know what... the more i think about the idea...it would be pretty darn piratey cool to roll up on some glitching ship while you were soloing, pull up and stop, and systematically pick off the crew with grape shot...then sink em.

stuff of pirate legend me thinks.:buds:

Sassy 08-02-2008 05:01 AM

thank you for the info rackat.. wish you would've gotten on when/where i was... i'd've loved to have seen that work..

I tried this tonight on a few cheaters - worked spectacularly. I forgot that GRAPE SHOT stuns - when you are stunned, you cannot attack (back) so just sitting there shooting them over and over with grape shot WORKS.

Use grape shot on multiple targets. (Remember the Ghost ship flag ships? If you never boarded one and always ran, you deserve to not understand.) Note that while round shot is better for assassination, grape shot stuns. So, either switch back and forth, or stick with just grape. (Hit them 40 times with grape instead of two times with round shot...but who cares?) Once they are dead, their auto-repair glitch is GONE. You can then just battle them with normal, conventional methods.

Was on a war frigate, frigate, light galleon, and frigate - was able to take down full-crew light sloops, full crew war sloops, full crew war frigates with my crew of four to six. The light sloop kept shooting me personally with explosive. (OK, even my lvl 40 can't survive 5219 damage in one hit.) But it did them no good at all, as we were not using the glitch they were - so losing the driver (me) meant I flopped down for a moment...when I came back, broadsides were done recharging. BLAMO. Immensely satisfying to hear the light sloop sink on one side, war frigate sink on the other.

I guess the next improvement is to convince the crew to STAGGER their grape shots. Or maybe not...the first shot to hit, determines the winner. And the poor glitchers have nothing to fight back with.:laughks2: (For them to waste time with grape shot gives them nothing; only effective against someone cheating...just a normal light stun otherwise.)

Rackat 08-02-2008 04:24 PM

A crew of three would be just right. One Captain, one grape shooter, one person using high level cannon balls.

The grape shooter continues to pepper the opposing crew, the other takes down the hull.

Finally, a great use for grape shot!

Joseph 08-02-2008 05:45 PM

Thanks for sharing that info with us rackat, maybe all the cheaters will quit now that we know how to sink them while their doing that

captaindruidblade 08-02-2008 06:09 PM

Thanks for the tips

Thanks for the tips ive been trying to find a way to counter i was close.

Rackat 08-02-2008 11:23 PM

Glad to help!

mlratto 08-03-2008 05:11 AM

grape shot fun

i actually tested this out but i have no idea if the guy on the other side was glitching. I pulled up alongside his war frigate with mine and i started shooting him with grape shot. the best was seeing the damage points displayed!:laughks2:

then we got in a grape shot one on one battle which quickly elevated to a cannon ball battle then lightning. after dying like three times he finally sunk me (d'oh!) but i gotta say it was good fun.

I agree that this strategy is good with a good crew but risky and almost foolhearty if solo and against a ship with a crew.

so the lesson be...go out with a good crew and you can beat anyone straight up...or glitching:dancetl6:

LOL!!! Great job finding this! I'll be spreading the word tomorrow. :)

What exactly does grape shot do

It works as a "stun". You don't go to jail, but it knocks down their health points until they keel over and fall off the wheel or the cannon. At that point their game "resets" and the glitch is gone. So, you have to have someone take out the captain, but taking out the cannoneers is good too.

Tuefenhandel 08-04-2008 12:45 AM

Yeah - great, wonderful, FANTASTIC!!!

Now there is a use for grape shot...... and I didn't include it in my now finished build.

There wasn't any use for it!!

Dagnabit.....

Dr. Zeppers 08-04-2008 12:53 AM

I love my personal rule of 1 point in everything hehe... Never want to be without something hehe.

Tuefenhandel 08-04-2008 12:55 AM

Thanks Zep, nothing like a little salt in the open wound....

My apologies, i've been criticized for it in the past, so I have to take my moments of glory when and where I can. hehehe If your at the helm.. ya dont need it matey! ;)

Glad theres a way to even it up against the scurvy dogs taking advantage of broken seas... hehe

mlratto 08-04-2008 01:27 AM

ramming is good fun

confirming what i read before...ramming a ship makes an invisilbe ship re-appear on your radar and removes whatever repair glitch they are using.

i have gained a new respect for that skill and have come to enjoy using it. Nothing says "hello I'll be disabling your glitch now" better than ramming another ship, turning and broadsiding.

Rackat 08-13-2008 02:00 AM

OK, a couple of things. The cheaters are trying to counter the grape and ram by crewing more people. Good idea. However, the Parrotheads (my Guild) have countered this as well.

Ship: Light Frigate; Frigate; War Frigate (have not tried Galleon classes or Sloop or War Sloop, Light sloop is too small to work to overcome glitch I tried)

Crew: Three people minimum, two on cannon, one Captain.

Tactic: Closer the better. If you can Ram first, do so. Then back off slightly so that cannons can engage.

Cannon one: Grape ONLY
Cannon two: high level cannon shot

Front cannon(s): prior to engaging enemy, cannoneers choose which will grape, which will shoot high level shot. Grape cannon continuous fire grape shot, secondary cannon uses high level to take down cheater.

Doesn't work everytime, but enough to get a good bounty.

Silver Beard 08-13-2008 02:18 AM

I don't understand...what where they doing? The glitch I mean. Your post didn't state what the glitch was they where doing...? I don't understand.

This counters the invincibility (constant repair while underway) and invisibility glitches.

Dr. Zeppers 08-13-2008 04:41 PM

Im glad theres a way to counter several of these glitchs, only makes sense, the glitches would be.. well glitchy! hehe.

On a humorous note. When I came in here to see whats new, I saw in the subject 'auto repair', now I knew what it meant, but first thought was... we're fixing cars in here?

CrimsonRabbit 08-13-2008 06:41 PM

This is awesome...I think I might actually log on and try this soon. I've been staying away hoping they'll fix some of the glitches...but this sounds like a fine enough fix to go have fun!

Evie 08-20-2008 08:44 PM

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

We just used this today. A ship was very obviously doing this glitch, and was taking down eveyone. We tried working together to attack him, but nothing, and people were getting very frustrated.

So, I asked to driver to ram him, and stay there. He did, I dusted off my grape-shot adn used it, the whole team poured fury into him, and down he went! Massive celebration. :sign0200: :bananapirate::aV132AQi:

Rackat 08-21-2008 01:27 AM

FYI -I boarded a ship using the Privateer Crew Search function this evening. The ship was using the the repair underway glitch. I went to a repair spot and hit shift, and started repairing the ship while the captain was still at the wheel.

So, the countermeasure of grapeshot combined with high level cannon fire is still the best option.

There were several of his high level guild members on board assisting with the glitch. As I was repairing the ship while underway, I hit the "?" button and reported everything including date, time, ocean, ship, captain, glitch, and guild.

Edit: Maximus, I wan't trolling. I named a specific cheater.
