Who else plays with their kids?
After mentioning that I've played this game with my son in another post, it made me wonder how many other families are out there crewing together.
My son became interested in this game after seeing me play so I made him his own account. Usually his gaming involves crashing cars and racing on a console but what 10yr old boy doesn't love pirate ships and wielding swords?? Plus, since it's Disney, the environment is quite kid-friendly compared to other mmos. After sweet-talking his computer so it would run the game (his system is very basic), he was soon set up with his own pirate and we crewed up along with my boyfriend who also plays sometimes. We had a blast! All three of our computers are in close proximity so it made for easy communication between us. We have done land-based group stuff but my son's favorite thing is sailing so we've spent a lot of time on the open seas, blasting every enemy ship in sight that we thought we could handle. Since most of his console games are car/race based, we don't spend a lot of time gaming together since those games just aren't my thing. This game gave us an opportunity to game together and we have had so much fun with it. So who else is making POTCO a family affair? |
Actually - our Guild founding was based on three families - and me (how I ended up in there is a long story about a lost pirate but anyway...) there was this wonderful woman and her two children, another wonderful woman and her grandchild, a great guy and his kids and wife - and me :D Kinda went from there I guess...

My 9 year old Daughter started her own Pirate. We have a blast together. She loves talking with her guild mates and hacking things with her cutlass, but her Pirates other skills are "lacking" so when she goes to bed, and before I run my own Pirate, I try to help her level up her skills. It is a great family game, but my wife hates hearing us talk about Pirates "all the time!" Happy Plundering!

I actually started playing the game with my four year old son. He likes to play "by himself" but still requires dad to read the words of the quests and to occasionally knock out some high level enemy. The sad thing is he is almost as capable as I am at playing the game.

My daughter (10) plays sometimes. We can't play together since we only have one computer, but I always sit with her and help her out when she's in PotC.
|
My husband and I often play with our 6yo and our 3yo...and they even play together! lol
Our guild is mostly us, and a few friends we've added along the way :) |
My boy and I take turns playing.

I have a 10 and 8 year old that play off and on. Even had a few friends from school they would try to get together with. I work the different characters now and then, but when they discovered linked accounts, they want a level 40 all the time now to play, haha.

my six year old boy got me started and he got his pirate up to lvl 10 i think. He now spends his time playing Lego Indiana Jones.
So now i'm the only one who plays and i play for about an hour every night. |
Well thank you, to the genius who moved this thread. I enjoyed looking around the forums for it. I appreciate the adventure. :smiley40:
Anyway, thanks for the replies so for, it's good to see other parents getting active with their kids in gaming. I was so frustrated when I first tried playing this game because my computer just didn't want anything to do with it at all. When I finally got things lined out, I was excited to finally have a pirate mmo. I played it alone for quite some time before my guys got involved. My boyfriend is a hardcore gamer and it seems he's beginning to rub off on my son. With POTCO, we all have a game we like that we can play together. |
I play with my 9 y-o son, we have 2 computers together.. on the same desk, so it's very easy to communicate between us.
My 5 y-o daughter listens about pirates all the time, my son talks about the weapons, the ships, sings the pirate's songs... so the girl knows every pirate term and everything about the game. :buds::buds::buds: |
I play with my 11 yr old and my 5 yr old. My 5 yr old needs me to help him read stuff he has the the most interest in the game. My 11 yr old would rather play Guitar Hero and Rock Band now a days.

For us, its become an entire family deal. Me, my husband, my 15 year old, my 5 year old & my husbands prior children as well.
Needless to say, we have multiple computers. |
I'm not really old enough to have kids, haha ;) my parents wouldn't play with me, though, they're sick enough of pirates as it is with ME in the family, although my dad still does love the first and second film... Okay, I'll stop rambling.

My 8 yo and I both play. Usually at the same time but sometimes just him but I'll be close by.

My 6yo LOVES this game. So far we only have the one computer, so we have to take turns (which can be frustrating.. lol). Usually when I sail he handles the cannons, so it works out well. He's not big on the quests because he can't read them, but he LOVES sailing, and recently starting fighting the skeletons and the other guys in the game. I try to play his once in awhile so I can do the quests and level up his weapons for him.
We've talked about getting another computer, since I think it would be a blast to crew up together with dh on a ship. LOL- although that seems like a dumb reason to sink $500 into one. Meghan |
My 17 and 15 yo's play. I have two paid accounts and a free account all linked so we can all be on at the same time, which doesn't happen often. But it is fun when we do all get to play together.

I actually started playing because my 8 year old daughter was interested. We saw a TV commercial, turned and looked at each other, one of us whispered "cool" under their breath and then it was a race to the computer.
She is all about the clothes, jewelry, stuff, and socializing. Her eyes got very wide the other day when she read about "half price stuff" in the "stores". In true diva fashion, the first thing she said was, "Dad, can you get on my account and earn me enough to go buy new stuff this weekend?" One thing for sure - we went to WDW Orlando back in May and playing online made the POTC ride a very special thing for us. |
