Release Notes - July 23 2008

  • Privateering has been added:
    • Side with either the French or Spanish pirate "Lords" as a privateer and engage rival Pirates in epic sea battles
    • Launch your ship from the islands of Isla De La Avaricia (Spanish) or Ile D'Etable De Porc (French), and you will automatically be put into Privateering mode
    • New Privateering loading hint screens have been added
    • Added Privateering chat. Now you can communicate with other members of your team without an opposing team knowing about it. (This type of chat will appear in a gold color in your chat window.)
    • While in Privateering mode, flagships will sink immediately when you disable them
  • Adjusted the armor on NPC ships so it is slightly weaker than player ships
  • Cannon balls are no longer be able to be shot through islands
  • Added a minimum system requirements check to the game launcher
  • Added the Crew Heads Up Display (HUD) so you can see what other crew members are doing
  • Updated the Basic Access player popup
  • The radar now remembers your zoom level when boarding and leaving a ship
  • Added NPCs with glowing question marks above their heads. These "helper NPCs" will give advice in the same manner as Quest dialog. You can find a couple of these NPCs on the Privateering islands
  • The ship repair panel will update correctly when repairing your ship
  • Undead Grenadiers now animate properly when attacking players
  • Avatars that teleport to friends (but whose friends are still in jail) will be able to leave the jail, if the door was already kicked down
  • Updated the ship damage interface
  • Cannons do more damage the closer you are to your enemy
  • Removed the teleport totem icon from the map for Kingshead island
  • The Ray-Of-Light will guide you better to your Quest objectives
  • Fixed several Quest dialog bugs
  • Fixed a bug that caused the cannon reload status bar to occasionally hang at an intermediate point
  • Fixed a bug that was preventing clothing/jewelry/tattoo rewards from being dropped by enemies if your inventory was already full of these items
  • Fixed a bug that allowed players to appear undead outside of PVP
  • Fixed a bug that allowed the French/Spanish NPCs to respawn on their ship if it was taking too long to defeat all NPCs
  • Fixed a bug with the voodoo doll that would divide healing power among all attuned targets(including enemy NPCs) instead of only dividing it among attuned targets that are players
  • Fixed a bug that would not allow you to run after you died while taking aim with the pistol

Ahh you might struggle there. Connection is bad, & at the minute, the game is down for updates.

Sounds cool. Can't wait til the game is back up and running.:)

Gabyta 07-24-2008 02:38 PM

I tried to privateer yesterday and it was full...

Edward Edgemenace 07-24-2008 02:43 PM

Wow, so many things fixed, I may have to eat my words and renew my subscription. They fixed the evil PvP thing? Wow, that is worth a few gold doubloons!

My first experience with privateering (in the first 1/2 hour, after d/l & signing in, finding the PvP islands, finding a crew and boarding - then the servers dropped) was just simply fantastic. Sailing for the French makes it too easy to just kill everything Spanish. I kept seeing "...Defeated (Spanish) 10 in a row" and stuff.

It is still hard to find a crew (as hard as ever) and there is definitely something weird going on. One of the French ships I was crew on, was being driven by a Spaniard (Player name was "Kelly" level five) after the ship's owner had been disconnected - which was the one of the two times I was on a French ship that sunk. The other is a weird "out-of-bounds" glitch, where if you go as far as the opposition's island, your boat LOCKS UP and cannot move or fire at all. (I had been doing "Ramming speed" to blast through eight or nine Spanish ships that had spawned simultaneously in front of me; instead of going past and to the left of Avaricia where I was pointed, it just locked up.)

Vive La France!

Looks like history shall repeat itself - the Spanish Armada is being quickly destroyed. Why is sea treasure always "doubloons" instead of "Louis D'ors"? Perhaps only the Spanish war galleons ever sunk...

Chris 07-24-2008 02:53 PM

Yay! - goes SvS'ong - bye folks!

are they forgetting some updates like there are new quests to do for both the french and the spanish?

aww dont ya hate it when u get this message

No mention of it at all.

AdmiralSavvy 07-24-2008 03:53 PM

This was noted in all the test notes posted by Ironhawk.

Reduced cannon damage. It was affecting everything at first, but now is supposedly limited to the privateering. Perhaps this is to discourage ships from leaving the privateering area to sink other ships.

davy redflint 07-24-2008 04:39 PM

cant launch team full i even switch sever to a quiet ocean still the same, i did get to sink some spanish earlier that was good........
on the lightin thing u hav to keep hittin the same spot or get closer to do more damage.

Chris 07-24-2008 04:56 PM

OK yea thats lovely but i put 5 points in lightning for a reason and that reason was for ship PVP now they make lighting 89 damage up close and 50 damage far away well that stinks im complaing to disney they better fix this and hope its a bug but this is ridiculous

EDIT: i also hate when ships baby sit im on spanish side these 2 war frigates on the french are sitting right outside the spanish island so as soon as our little protection time is up they attack us full force

With the introduction of SvS, to attemt to fix some inbalence issues they also introduced Inner / Outer Hull Damage.

Basically this means you have to "Break" the Outer Hull before getting big damage in the "Inner" Hull.

At first it applied to all ships - but was changed in the NPC world (mostly - they still have I/O but there O is much weaker).

Ironhawk has a post around here somewhere on it - and I posted some notes as well in my blog.

No - it isnt a bug and was definitely needed. It prevents some major imbalences in SvS from taking place. Once the Outer Hull breaks your lighting will still do lots of damage (I figure with 5 point lighting that you have it would be over 1100).

Its actually your reason that I/O was created - it levels the playing field some for lower pirates until you break the Outer Hull, then you still get the advantage of more power - but gives little pirrates the change to get away and not be faced by a bunch of 'Lighting Bullies'

Wonderful, another game where we have to deal with "CAMPING".

Pirates using this tactic to do thier deeds have no sense of fairplay.
The irony is they probably think they are 'cool' for doing it.

Disney needs to make it so you cannot set anchor (ie stop for more than a specified amount of time). Without making substantial movement (hey good place for the Kraken to come and pull them down, eh?).

Enemy ships just do NOT set anchor near/outside enemy ports, not without an entire armada set to invade (which is not an option here).

Wildwood 07-24-2008 05:11 PM

I got that message too Chris, but I logged off and changed servers and was able to take my ship out. I guess they don't want the seas overloaded with PVP.

BTW...if you scurvy French Dogs go against me prepare to die!!!!!

Yup as you said perfect place for the kraken to be put in place :)

ok this makes sense only issue i still have is the fact that our ship is moving the enemy ship is moving and lag likes to slap people in the face at the wrong time basically trying to hit the same are of a ship to "crack" its out shell is hard hmm but it does make sense in the sense of the way ships are build

Agreed :D Not moving say within 1-2 minutes would 'call the kraken' to your location - getting a fix on you, then *gulp* *burp* LOL

The 10-15 seconds of 'Invincibility' though does give you enough time to scoot away before the 'campers' can get you - or else they become the sitting ducks (explained below)

I actually like the campers somewhat - easy kills. They sit there - you come out and cut right (or the opposite of their hull point - so if they are sailing right - go left, forces them to turn or back up slowly). Once out far enough, I then park and shoot back at them (pointed to their island for quick getaway) and strat poking them off.. they sink or move fast enough (For my side I'll actually hit as many as I can - so they all have to chase me or I sink them all :D ) Once moving I let my 'team mates' take them from the rears (cause now we have them surrounded)...

SvS is actually quite the tatictical combat... and its only day one. Trust me - by day 20 you get into some good rythums ;)

Well Lag bombs. Not much I can do with that one. As for ship movement... this is where good cannon skills come in thats for sure. Unless you get to 'camp' and shoot - pirates will have to get used to 'shooting on the run'...

Yea, its also bites when you miss the spot again - this is why I encouraged Big D NOT to have auto-repair when you sink a ship (why have repair if you get reapred every ship you sink??? Drives me crazy). this way, if you sink and they were damaged you still had a change to 'chase them down like dogs and finish the job!!! ' LOL

But lets have at it for a few days (remember - as I type this SvS has only been out for about 8 hours...), then D may take off the auto-repair (it only got added 5 days before release... so I'm hoping it is only a temp thing until pirates get used to SvS).

Chris 07-24-2008 06:56 PM

yea the repair on the sail is weird and annoying bc then you have the "runners" the pirates who like to attack but when they need to repair they turn and run like chickens

i also agree with the tactical SvS will become very ship tactical requiring mauervers and stratagey

and i guess you have to be a great cannoneer to keep locked on while you are moveing the target is moving and disney drops lag bombs on ya

DarthChaosSky 07-24-2008 07:26 PM

Spanish rules! No offense Frenchies. Anywho, awesome new updates. I'm kicking Frenchy butts all day long! xD

Ironhawk 07-24-2008 09:27 PM

Don't forget the Privateer Rank.
It's not implemented yet because still have bugs.
Lowest rank is Landlubber and highest is Admiral.
Each time we sink an enemy we get Infamy point.
We need this Infamy point to get promoted to higher rank.
I was only a Commodore when they canceled this feature in test.

Chris 07-24-2008 09:51 PM

aww that sounds like an awesome feature i would like to be ranked....

AdmiralSavvy 07-25-2008 07:00 AM

Aye, I want to live up to the name Admiral Savvy. :)

Disney better fix these bugs soon.

Lady Jade 07-25-2008 09:02 PM

I was able to get on a couple of (French) ships but I kept getting that same message that the Priveteer Team already had enough boats. I'll have to try back later on.
