Well mates... it's been a very long day.

For the benefit of those who have never caught the ban and for those, like me, that have forgotten how it works. I gladly share my experiences.

Last night around 11:50 PM EST I was chopping wood on Outcast island for the Guild bonfire. The next thing I know, I'm standing in jail. Luckily I landed in the
very same jail where Jade's beau pulls duty. He offered to smuggle out one message in a bottle, which went to Basil Dreadflint (Guild Officer) of course. I dont know what the guard's motivation for kindness was but I suspect he was fearful of Jade's wrath. It sure is nice to have friends in high places.

Basil contacted a Barrister who agreed to speak on my behalf in front of the Naval Magistrate at D. The Barrister charged me a sum of 20,000 dollars up front to represent me. (Dollars are their version of gold out here.)

Im truly grateful for Basil's help as the sentence was downgraded from "Hanging" to a lesser punishment. I don't have to actually sit in jail for 72 hours but they are making me participate in a program called work release. Additionally, the Naval Magistrate at D assigned a parole officer to monitor my behavior while I'm on the outside. I've already spoken to her and she seemed like a really nice lady.

Lastly, the Barrister had to pen a formal letter requesting a copy of the charges filed against me. It cost me another 5,000 of their dollars for him to write and send the letter.

So yes Kat... it is an expensive proposition. Then again... I could be hanging from a yard arm. But FEAR NOT my trusted lads and lasses!

OH! One more thing. Out here in isolation there is a man by the name of Bob Marley. He comes from an Island called Jamaica and he sings a "Redemption Song". His melodies have comforted me in my darkest hour.

Can you share why they banned you?

The short answer is that you get banned for breaking the TOS with D. The specifics in my case are still unknown as I have yet to receive a written transcript of my heinous crimes.

Either way... innocent or guilty (I profess complete innocence BTW), temporary banishment is still better than the alternative.

OK, Just got 72 hours for chat again. This time, I really didn't say anything bad!!!!!

I'm innocent, I tell ya!

I've decided to pretty much stop using Disney chat for anything other than hello and goodbye!

So, If/when you see one of the guys, please understand that they are deliberately being quiet! Anyone who would like to chat with me, I will be using the outgame chat, you can find my addy by looking at my contact info here!

OBTW, I really am totally frustrated now. Disney Chat Gestapo has gone too far! I am making some phone calls and emails to complain about the entire thing. If they don't make adult only servers soon, I think that the aggravation isn't worth the price of admission any more!

Ok, yesterday I got a PM, and I accidentally deleted it instead of replying, so I apologize to whoever sent it to me.

The basis of the PM was that someone in the guild had gotten a 24 hour suspension from Disney. (It should be over by now.) I meant to respond that they should contact D tech support to find out why, since they told me that they had no idea why, and hadn't gotten an email.

Now, I just went to log in and am being told that I, yes I, am on suspension!!!! There is about 12 hours left on a 24 hour suspension. No email telling me exactly which piddly stinking Disney rule I broke, or what I said to deserve this one. I have emailed Disney to find out why I got Vaca, but now I'm ticked. If the timing is correct, I wasn't even online at the time I got suspended!

If this is true, then I really have the record! Yes, this is suspension number 8, and that alone should qualify me for at least a bronze bust in the hall of fame, but now I'm getting suspended when I'm not even logged in!

If I hear anything about what I did when I wasn't ingame to get myself vacationed, I'll let everyone know!

It was Meg who got the Vaca yesterday, and i don't think she got a reason either.

fraid one of my ex guild mates has your record beat my friend. 11 bans and hes now permanently off the game. lol of course, we never questioned why he got the boot so often. in fact, im amazed that some of the things he typed even made it into the chat........

Really, the email they sent me even has a personal message about what I said regarding their pirate naming filters and chat filters!!!! Guess ALL DW members should go easy for awhile, since I just put us back on their "Watch LisT".... As if we ever get off that list!!!

I've never had something like this. Usually they just tell you that you've been suspended, and paste your chat. This one is as if they are writing a personal answer to me. And I WASN'T ranting, just making a nice quiet personal observation about the censorship that occurs with chat and pirate names, (and maybe a little about the lineage of said censors.) (Well, more than a little!)

Well amigo you are doing well. This here is why being a GM and officer in a guild trying to past info to your guild, is a punishment.

I have listed this several times in rants/side posts.

This is nothing new to us, this was happening to any of our guild officers for the most part something like 6 months ago.

Any form what so ever with vent in it was a ban.
Listing the guild web site was fine. Next day it was a ban.
Listing a web site that has vent info, apparently a ban.
Beating the ban with appeals and even quoted responses that this certain information was approved = ban, however many months they had to go back searching files for something else.

Though many times listing a site like that would get things by filters, it was always argued did a filter pick it up, or just a trouble maker reporting it.

Any case, the result ended up with people who were paying for member account event gifts and such perma ban. As well as guilds like ours locked out with gm perma bans.

Good luck with the battle to have fun and communicate. At least that side has got a little better and it doesn't take writing a sentence three times to get it through, so vent or something the only possible way to communicate.

Being on something like vent sure brings these things to light though what is happening to everyone while they are sitting there on vent telling you of their bans.

If i were to guess.. it was this that caused the ban:

Which effectively provided an external site to go to as far as they were concerned.
That plus its fairly known they do not like people passing Ventrilo (or other chat information) along.

The Chat Gestapo delivering my 10th vacation package!!! LOL!

Since I am already back from my ban this is kind of a post mortem. I got banned for 72 hrs for literally nothing this time. Capt Reave and I were chatting in whisper. I received a transcript containing the offensive language. I said. "Pointy Boobies, First floor , men's undies, and kielbasa." Pretty tame compared to some of the other chat I've seen in guild chat on here. I feel like big D is targeting certain people such as Basil and myself but I'm not sure what we can do about it. It is incredibly frustrating to be treated like children when participating in an adult guild. especially when the comments are being made in whisper between two consenting parties. Anyhoo, thats my two cents on it!!

Ok! So I have received my first warning from D. And the funny thing is it is really mild compared to others that I have said. One was for "He He He" "and I'm a sucker for cannons"

OK. I noticed tonight that chat was being filtered / edited pretty heavily. Although I wasn't lagging, my chat was often 2 or 3 seconds behind.

With the recent warnings given out, and Rose's wasn;t the only one, I think everyone should be careful for a few days. (yeah, right!)

i halfway expect a ban just for all the personal stuff i was venting.. oh well..

It is likely that after a volume of suspensions, they put certain pirates in a category of "probation" which they may scrutinize a bit more on chat because of past descretions.

I have been suspended one time only, due to passing some airport information one time to my friend that worked for Orbitz. 3 days off pirates, saved me $100+ off my travel costs, honestly, it was a deal.

I have not received any further correspondence other than monthly newsletters and bug report responses (ie Test).

I have said many many of the things in game that I see people getting banned for and have never heard a peep from Disney, now of course, company at the time, other chatter putting certain context on the phrase they decided was 'bad' could be taken into consideration and perhaps thats why I have never had any problems.

They have definately tightened down on in game chitchat, and im sure their moderation staff varies in individual personality, and attitude. They are also human and have good and bad days. Similarly here to POF, we have several admins/moderators, all have a different flare for things, and in theory, this actually helps keep things well rounded, albeit sometimes inconsistent (which I assure you we try to avoid) and im sure the same goes for Disneys customer service/moderation staff.

Thats a really accurate statement Zep, thinks for posting this! I myself have experienced this, I wish they would just let there moderating bot do all the work and them actually do work.

Anyone who thinks that the people who give out the suspensions/bannings and the people who develop the content are one and the same, you are dead wrong. Totally different group. Software developers would never be allowed to just sit and review chat logs.

The way that works is:
The filters are set to look for particular words, phrases, or context. The algorithms will flag and immediately send a response for outright swearing. This is ongame and immediate. It will also send a report to your account.
Other phrases and words do not send an immediate response to you, but send a notice to the reviewers that there was something questionable. They then go and pull the chat logs for review. (Here's where individual personalities come into play.)
I also believe that there are times when a reviewer will just sit and watch the chat scroll by at random. In-game live review of the chat. I can't prove this, but strongly suspect it.
And, I agree with Zep, I believe that they will target a person, or group of people, after handing out a suspension. They seem to come in bunches. Almost immediately after someone gets suspended, their friends, guildmates, and even others who just happened to be nearby start getting watched.

All I've ever even gotten a warning for was the using variations on the word damn..when telling guildies about my sister's parrot named "Dammit.". (named so that when it got to squawking too much.. She could say "shut up dammit")

Not to be contrary, but very early on I did flat out swear at a pirate not once, but twice. I told him he was being a pain... Ya know. Never got a warning or anything. Was not very happy with myself after that. In fact, not long after doing that I decided I hated who I was as a pirate and left the game.

We see how that lasted!:laughks2: I'm very glad to be back, and yet even 7 weeks later I'm still in shock that I never got a permaban for all out swearing. I really was incredibly rude that day. I haven't been that mean since, but I'll tell you what, I am very careful about what I say in chat.

That was probably BEFORE they put the newest chat monitoring software in. Nowadays, if you swear, it tells you right away. There's bunches of posts and threads about it. Ask Sarah, she potty mouthed on Test just to see if it worked.

A word of warning to all. . . try not to use the word "mouth" on pirates, it sets off the alarms. . . .
