More major story quests?
 

I am wondering what sort of long-term game play will be supported by POTCO following the completion of the Black Pearl quest.

Have there been any announcements of new and different story lines?

I wonder if there could be "generations" of Ocean servers, perhaps only those that have completed Black Pearl Quest will be able to enter generation 2 Oceans?



I must apologize if this has been addressed in other threads, I searched but was unable to find any answers on this topic.

To my knowledge, we have received no definitive promises from POTCO in this regard.

Many have asked, all of us have theorized, conjectured, etc. on the possibility.

Presently about the only things we have to go on as far as future development are the developers interviews presented on the Pirates online website, the DxD channel, and with what "Test" notes we see posted here in the forums.

We often hear conversation on a big expected "Summer Update". Many are expecting more than what we currently see being worked on, but I have a feeling what we are seeing now IS the big summer update.

What we do know is that nothing hits the open public servers until its been on the test servers sufficiently, so "testers" notes are usually our first real "peep" into whats instore for us. They are posted here in these forums as they become available. Currently Ship PVP and Privateering as French/Spanish, with some other quests being dealt in alongside appear to be our next step.

I do think that POTC Online will add more storyline
 

quests as game comes along more. There 3 movies so the first one The Black Pearl Quest is first, 2) I think they will had where you have to find Jones heart 3) You have to stop the EITC from taking over the seas thats just my guesses I don't know.

There was a preview of the next story quest for those who finished boss battle before November 20, 2007. After we won the black pearl there was a cutscene where Jack and Gibbs discuss the Headstone which was buried on Padres. Jack wanted us to find the Headstone and the first task was to visit Valentina (the 2nd gypsy on Padres).
But the quest ended there and after they relaunched the boss battle in March 2008 these cutscene and task are gone.
So I believe the new story quest (finding the Headstone) will only be available to those who had finished Boss Battle.

My friend is in the test server and he has a person that works with pirates online in his guild, anyways he told me the person told him the new quest is about kraken i think.. or something that has to do with potc 2

Of course we know there has to be at least one more story chapter for Davy Jones.
And then of course another for Jolly Roger.
So that's at least two more story chapter quest.

Off Topic: Wouldn't it be cool if after defeating Jolly Roger we got his pistol.
It has a sort of a dagger on it right?
Well I think his weapon should be the last pistol.
It looks like it could do some serious damage.

astrocamstar, i've keep hearing and reading about this "test server" and am wanting to find out how to get into it. can you let me know? as i am eager to try out some of the new things they add to the test server before slapping it on the live game.

can someone post a video of that cutscene? plz?

Hmm that's a new one. Anyway we can get confirmation on that? Pretty broad statement...

I just hope we get more story lines, Smaller bosses to fight for our quests so that it's not the same thing like killing easy crabs. I strong boss like crab for a specific quest I think would be fine and would make each individual quest more unique instead of the same.

Visit Potco official website choose Media > Videos > Video Insider: Kevin McNally to see some part of the cutscene.

Also in one of the Video Insider a dev was showing how he design a Kraken using a 3d program to grab a pirate from his ship.

LOL yea, but you and I both know those videos are so old - that most of what's in some of them never seen the Live System :D

Not to say though the code for Kraken still doen't exist and couldn't be implemented as part of a storyline... just more of a questions about 'a friend of a friend of a friend rumour' that I wanted to see if there was more details that could be provided :)

well there is going to be second story chpater i know that becasue there is a video of the trailer and it shows the kraken harrasing a ship

That would be nice.. to have a new story.. and what about new weapons?? when you have leveled up all your weapons there's almost nothing to do around..

I reckon that If they do add a new story chapter they will have to increase the max notoriety level so that the notoriety points can be used. And if they are going to do that they will need to increase the max weapon levels so that you can battle against the new harder enemies. They may even need to expand the map with new sea areas and Islands for the story quests. To be able to explore this new area of sea you may need new ships better then war frigates. And although I personally do not think it is needed there is always a chance they will add new weapons.

As you can see adding one new story chapter is likely to be a bigger job then first thought.

OR----just a thought......

Your pirate will have to become a bit more......civilized, and the amount of notoriety has been reduced. Here is a possible scenario:

Your pirate has decided to carry papers from the crown, much like the offer made to Jack Sparrow in Dead Mans Chest, and as such, is viewed as less of a pirate.

So, in order to take on this campaign, you will need to have a minimum notoriety level of, lets say, level 35. You will be immediately be demoted to, lets say, level 20. At this point, all of your pirate attacks will lose power accordingly.

So the new quest would not only have an experience requirement, but will increase difficulty at the same time.

The reprecussions of a change like that could quite possible kill the game. New islands, with new and/or more powerful, higher level enemies can easily solve the "increase" of difficulty issue. As it is, how many pirates under level 20 do we ever see in Tormenta Cave (thats not lost or shipwrecked). The idea is already in action now. Just need more places, and ways to tie them in.


Sentiments of the two members above are pretty right on with how the players would react to negating thier Notoriety/accomplishments. Disney couldnt do this simply because it would be diminishing the value of its players time/money invested. I could see 100's of customers cancelling accounts, lodging complaints if this happens (maybe even 1000's). They already maintain a members pirates even when they dont pay, so they can be reestablished once they decide to pay again. If they were thinking in any lines of diminishing our pirates, they likely wouldnt bother with this. Especially when as I stated above it would be easier to add new islands, harder enemies, and even raise the notoriety cap 5-10 levels to give us a means of further advancement of our pirates, upgraded weapons, etc. Let us work on all becoming Pirate Lords now instead of just Pirate Masters ;)
