What do you do with rep jumpers?
I have seen this I think more and more lately. With the ships invulnerable, there is always some little ship racing up shooting some ship you shot sails off of, that you were prepping to kill with your broadsides for the most overall rep.
Yesterday I ran a 20 level something character for the 2x reward. I am working dagger on a gypsy and as I would hit it with hex, this guy would shoot it or kill it. So I asked; Will you please quit stealing my rep. The response was, "why". OK at this point it was obvious this 37 level character was basically clueless to over half a dozen things. The 2x floating over the head. Working painful amounts of swings to build up the rep with dagger. I was in a remote area, and dozens of even the same critters to fight near by. I could of sat there explaining maybe you should try something in your level range, but don't think that would of sunk in. Most of all, I will bring one of my 40 level guys there and smoke everything in one hit until you understand, lol. Kings is a lot of the time even worse, ya finally go and find a server that is empty and start doing your thing. Give it a few minutes and some newb comes in with a staff and starts jumping the spawn. Could make this a poll, but think I will leave it open to comments. What I finally did after explaining I was working on my skills, was jump to another server. Places like Kings that is not always such a easy thing. So whats your solutions? |
if there under lv 20 tell them u will report them and get them banned forever if they dont stop
|
I used to get upset, but anymore I don't. What I normally do is type in something like "If you are going to steal my Rep points, at least have the decency to request crewing me". Sometimes they take the hint, sometimes not, and sometimes they'll do a crew invite. If they request to crew, I usually accept so that I at least get some of the points back they are stealing.
|
Often times I will ask to share the mob on Kings, take turns if you will. Usually they agree, and once we have taken turns a few times, I usually ask to crew up. I have actually made a couple of good new friends that way.

I told a pirate lass once she should be more considerate, and she could have at least asked. Her response was... ASK? Ill be darned if i'll ask for anything in this game. I TP'd out thanking her for proving my point about her being inconsiderate towards others. Yes its a game but that does not relieve people of their social graces. If low levels continue to attack my mobs after I ask them not to, I stop attacking and let the mob change targets. I usually see them die quite quickly. Problem solved. |
It really doesn't bother me unless the other person is using a voodoo doll and attunes and runs off, and my target runs off after them. It is hard for me to level up a sword or dagger if I have to chase after my prey because another player wants to circle dance.
|
What i hate is when voodoo dall people keep running around so its hard to make a hit on them, especially when theyre on ure own crew.
|
I leave and find another place. Those people are really annoying.
|
or u can get u friends to DESTROY ALL THEIR REP lol:piratetongueor4::laughks2:
|
doesnt bother me any more either. all u can do is ask them to move on if they dont i usally do.
|
i used to get all my friends and guildies over and then we would all attack it and it be dead with in a second sure im not getting rep but neither is he or she so they ran off now that im higher lvl i attack lvls 28 - 40 so if some one does this to me either A) i still get great rep bc he or she is only doing -1 or -2 hit damage with most being misses lol and B) their dead
|
Do as Zeppers did. However, once (yesterday, strange coincedence?) I got asked to quit stealing rep when I'd been there for like an hour, as well as there being nothing for me to get decent enough rep off of. Regardless, I am sounding alot like the pirate in the OP's post, to myself at least, though I didn't "steal" anything. I'm 27, so I guess I'm not the subject of Poison's rant, though he might've made a mistake... (27->37?)
|
No mistake, it was a level 37 character, probably max on pistol with just one or two hits to take down the gypsy. Part of what sorta made the entire thing weird. Nobody had been there for over a hour, but a couple run throughs.
I could of brought in one of the 40's with siege bombs and wipe things out over and over with one hit, but really whats the point. Think it just was annoying that it was a waste of the double xp running around and getting the first gypsies unglitched again and starting it all over. Just seems to be more and more of that stuff lately. Suppose it would of been nice to find them when they were doing their 2x and take a few mobs out several times, haha. |

I wish I can run a class in Voodoo Doll etiquette someday. First of all its not necessary to run if another person is doing more damage than you with another weapon. I do it all the time I heal friends, attune the enemy just in case they get in trouble and rarely do I have run. Then stand behind the dagger or sword person. Your pretty safe there. If all else fails use shackles to hold them still for the person doing the dagger or sword. I agree when your leveling leave you alone to do just that. |

That's what I do, works every time!! :laughks2::laughks2: I dont mind sharing, I'll even help out with some healing when need, if they were considerate. Cheers |
I went to Kingshead at the weekend to use my double rep on my nades. It was nice and quiet for around 30 mins then a group of teen levels appeared. I asked them to stop, but they ignored me and even started laughing. After trying a few other servers, I found one that was fairly quiet. Just one other double repper. Being a nice kind of guy, I asked if she minded me joining her. She said no problem. It was great for another hour or so as we took turns TPing for restocks. Then a bunch more noobs turned up and sorta ended my double repping. I just switched to Padres and levelled my Dagger instead.
Manners cost nothing (even to a pirate). I dont mind sharing if I am getting a good enough rep, but please ask first. I even left a few places, cos there were double reppers there. I offered them good luck and left them to it. They said thanks (which is also nice manners.) |
I suggest a time when there are less people (and kids) on, like 8 or 9 in the morning, or even (if you can hack it, lol) late at night. I've been almost bored to death because of lack of activity at those times, lol. I was almost wishing for someone to come in and mess it all up so I could have an entertaining argument! I had a friend chew out a couple of other pirates for stealing a friend's rep while she was leveling with her double xp. One was a mid level and the other was an 11 Basic. It was SO funny listening in while I healed our friend! They were so busy arguing they barely got in any hits! ROFL!
|
I remember back before they put that target-switching code in, my wife and I had a rep leech decide to tag along with us as we were killing undead brigands.
We're sitting there talking, wondering how we can get rid of the guy, when I had an idea. I shot at one of the brigands, but deliberately missed. The leech took this as his cue to just jump right in and start swinging. He died almost immediately. I kept giggling about it all night. |
this is also a great time for me to share my 2 amazing ideas ok here they are
1) For Males only - Punch - type /punch into chat and you will throw a fist at the person next to you 2) For Female only - Slap - type /Slap into chat and you will slap the pearson nearest you |

Yeah THAT! :laughks2: I don't mind sharing especially if I am taking on a foe I normally struggle with, but I do get a little annoyed when 7 or 8 level 5 and below follow me from mark to mark and hit once and stand and watch me take out the enemy, with my staff AND take all the personal damage. If it's someone who can at least give me a quick heal I can even deal with that. :dancetl6: If It gets annopying for whaever reason, I just change servers. Sometimes the bad guys take care of it for me, cause even with several friends, some of them take on a much more evil foe than they can handle ! Saw a lev 3 take on a lv29 Mercenary! OY! that was NOT a pretty sight LOL!! |
I hate it when that happens to me on Kingshead. I mean ill first start working on lvling my staff with the troop but then grenaiders or somethin come and steal all my rep, so ill move somewhere else only to be taken over there....I usually get stuck up top bc thats where newbs wont come bc the lvl is way too high up there....

I have a problem with the whole "stealing my rep" thought process. During the double rep / Father's Day bonus I was (as were many, many others) doing as much damage as possible in the cave on Tormenta.
The conflict arose as pirates came and went - each one lamenting myself and others not to "steal their rep". Doesn't matter who you are or if your "trying to make lvl <insert here>". Everyone is trying to make level. Everyone has limited time during bonus hours. This is, after all, about piracy! I was completely disheartened as I read repeated whining and pouting. "Plz leave these for me". A whole group camped out at the back of the cave on the Molusk / Urchinfist spawn sites and acted as if the prime real estate was somehow their birth right. Very, very disappointing. Needless to say, I did what any self respecting pirate would do. Turned a deaf ear to their self centered ways and blasted away at anything that moved. |
I can understand where you are comeing from. However that is not what we are griping about. We are upset about the people who run up to what ever NPE you are trying to kill. I take it you would blast anything as long as the others were not blasting said enemy.
It just grates my nerves when I am killing something when someone comes up and jumps on the same NPE I am killing while there is a dozen more just like it 2 feet away!! I can't tell you how many times during double rep I had my baby pirate (LV8) in lava gorge lv pistol on the witchdoctors and a high level (30+) would walk in and blast it on their way to the catacombs. I even had one rude ***** tell me I did not belong there, I should be in PR with the other noobs!! Bella |
I either stop attacking and let them die, or I start following them around and stealing rep from them, they usually get the hint pretty quick.
|
I tried just running to another area...they would follow.
I tried teleporting but that became pretty bothersome. So now I do one of 2 things... I finish off whatever Im attacking then go to another area. If they follow me then I report them. I will stop attacking so they will turn on the inconsiderate glutton and die a miserable death and then I report them. PS I do issue them warnings at first. Im not completely heartless. hehe Pretty much either way they get reported and hopefully learn their lesson. |
Frankly, It doesnt bother me much. If its a paid player - they pay the same monthly fee that I do, and are entitled to play.
I understand why its frustrating to some, but if the spot is a typical good spot for rep points, common sense tells you that someone else is going to use the same place - and there are only so many servers to switch to. I personally would try a different server if I was that bothered. Otherwise, Im either doing the most damage - and get decent reps. Otherwise, I find another spot to level.... I like leveling, but I play for the fun of it, and usually don't get too bent out of shape. Im more annoyed by people on my friends list who TP to me without asking where I am, or what Im doing, or who try to drive my ship when Im using my top cannons. Now THATS worth complaining about! LOL I wish Disney would have a 'approve' option for friends when you are sailing. Uncrewed friends can't board. Ugh. Perhaps a 'Walk the Plank' button! Woot! I'll add - I think reporting a 'rep-stealer' is a misuse of the report feature. IMO - its for offensive, or abusive players, not for telling on people who don't play by ONE persons rules. No offense, but Ive only reported ONE person. They were harassing people, calling names, and would NOT leave anyone alone. (I was not the only person to report em either!) |
Another thing is that on a wild island, upon warping, you'll be on a port island. I ain't so bothered by it, and don't see why anyone should be. Odds are that there is another good series of targets, save in Kingshead (even there, you can conserve grenades by not constantly chocking your own, which ain't such a bad thing).
Crewing up a repstealer (as dubbed, but who's to say) is the easiest way to take care of such a problem. If you are in the mood of chatting with someone else, put them on Whisper and chat by just pressing enter. |
There is nothing new here I haven't probably done in the way of dealing with jumpers. I have found it funny a few times as well the guy in tormenta waiting for you to shoot the molusk with hex so he can go and jump in on attacking it. Yeah, I have shot over its head and missed, oops, no more jumper.
This is just one of the things that will be argued one way or another no matter what most agree upon. It also lies within the fine line of crewing. It feels at times that everyone but me read, crewing means: attack what the guy there is fighting, lol. What is most amazing is watching how many people really just don't know, or get it. What I mean by this is, what effects they cause to what you are doing. Example: Easy 100 points kills on molusk with grenades all the way up to max. Line up two, easy 200 points each set of grenades. Now you are the one expected to take them down with hex, and run back and forth getting grenades so you can get 30 points rep with someone else hacking at it. Join a crew, oh yeah, I get 30 rep plus crew bonus of 4 or something like that, lol. Reporting someone for this I don't think is the answer, I don't believe in looking for things I can report people for, nor is that going to make a difference. Those that just think they are bigger, so its their right to do as they please, is probably the most annoying to me though. Its this attitude of screw someone over if you can that I take the revenge on if I can. This is the type thing the initial post relates to. 5-6 gypsies in the area, a 2x character fighting one using hex and doing there thing. A 37 level character shoots the one the 20 level character is fighting after he shoots the power off it. (several times)The attitude of Why, I can, what can you do about it type thing is just out right rude. I fully disagree with the statement of they are a payed player so should be able to do what they want. Many others are paid players as well. This doesn't give a right to others to make you take more trips for ammo, more time to do what you are working at. I in no way believe I owe a benefit to another paid customer to build his character out of his laziness, of fighting something on his own. Friends can be removed, end of problems with any friends, so any problems there, its a choice made by the individual by keeping problem friends on their list. At least I am happy I didn't have to have the 2x xp the first instant I could possibly get it, and go and try to fight stuff the same time tons of others did. Waited a day or so, and hardly saw another 2x running around. |
lol it seems that alot of people who get on the game and see another person attacking a bad guy they think its mighty nice of them to help you out of a fighting situation though its not the case for most. alot of times people who are higher lvl get bored and just go attacking things at random for no reason they feel that they need to mess with those who are actually trying to play. its even more annoying when they keep following you around griefing is an offense and can be reported. but the most i do is just stop attacking the target and let them go at it i still get points and they have to work for it usually but if that doesnt work i try to get them to move over to where a mob will attack them and then they die :) then again i fight on tormenta alot so i dont get that problem that much
all in all there are annoying people in the game and we have to live with them :) |
I get rep stealer's in Fort Charles on the Merc's all the time or Assassin's at Kingshead.I'll be leveling my dagger or cutlass on these guys and a gang of low level people jump in and start swinging. So i step back and let the Merc or Assassin handle his business and kill them all with one swipe. Then after everyone is dead I'll take them out.For ship's lately If someone steals my kill I'll fire at the nearest ghost ship around the other ship and watch them sink with a barrage of lightning bolts.I get a kick out of it but ti does seem mean. Also I been so tired of the friendly broadsides that I will wait for that ship to leave. Then sit on my war frigate and jump on a cannon .After the ship that was shooting me reaches his/her level 5 bulwark I will sink it with one lightning bolt from long range. That really makes them mad.Yesterday I cleared out every small ship from port royal to tortuga until everyone got the hint.

Hehe, at my level, the high levels wouldn't waste their time jumping my kills, so that means I get the lower leveled rep jumpers. These people are surprisingly easy to trick, and let me tell you, it is really funny to watch.
One example was when I was on a Kingshead trip with my guild. A level 20 came when the guildmaster (AdmiralBeckett on here) was casting wither and letting the rest of the guild get hits on it, meaning it counted as guild kills, and we all got money and rep. The level 20 was sweeping the group of Veterans we were fighting, stealing rep, money, and taking kills. So in our chat we decided to have some fun with him. Our guildmaster (very cleverly) managed to convince him that he would get more money and rep if he followed her. To keep him from suspecting something, we all followed her. We got up to the assassins, we made sure he stayed, by killing the first one without letting him take a hit. So then when the next assassin popped up, he jumped on it expecting us to help him. Our guildmaster fired a few shots with her staff which made him think we were helping. Eventually the assassin's gaze turned to him, and we watched the show. The punk got slain and never came back. ^.^ Another example of my fun with rep hoppers was when I was training at Cuba. There were some level 13-18 fly traps I was training my pistol on when a level 8 showed up and started shooting them. So I killed a few with him, then I shot a one and watched as the rep hopper began shooting. He started taking damage and tried to run, but seemed to not know that the fly trap could spit venom. He yelled at me "Dude!! Help me!!" and I responded: "Well you seemed like you wanted to kill the monsters I was training on, so I'll let you do it, I don't see a problem in that." I was falling over laughing while he ran like a headless chicken and died. |
I was leveling with the mow flag over by kingshead and this ship came over to me and started shooting me, like I took the mow from them when I'd been there for at least a half and hour getting mow after mow. Plus they were a war gal so they had the power to take over my spot. That, to me, is the epitome of rep stealing. Jerks..
|
I was trying to level my cannons by killing some french blood's. I was killing them perfectly and boarding them with no problem. All of a sudden i saw a Light Sloop walk up on the blood and it needed one hit before boarding it. The light sloop shot and i didn't get no grappilng hook sign nor halfy any rep. Surprised I watched the Light Sloop shoot some hooks. It said Ready to be boarded and then boarded about 2minutes later they both sank. I never really got to find the level but thats what happens when trying to steal my rep ;)
