Chapter 3 Quest(s)
 

Is anyone else at a loss trying to defeat 5 scorpions and a crab? I'm having a lot of trouble with this quest, and I'm wondering if anyone has completed it yet.

I hope you can help me. I have no quests... I go to the Shipman and have buy a ship. But all chapter quests are now away. i have no more one. what must i do?

I can't get past the quest where you sink the ships and kill the 8 navy guards. I completed it, but it won't let me turn in the quest. I mean that I can turn in the quest, but I can't get another one. It seems stuck in place. Anyone know how to beat this?

for me it is the sink 2 navy ships quest. I have completed it and gone to see Gibbs as instructed but the quest never goes away and no new quest is given.

On the topic of this thread, what is a "Chapter 3" quest?

How are the quests chaptered?

I have never seen this and am curious.

EDIT: OK I am an idiot, I found where you are referring to the chapter quests and I am on Chapter 3, Loyalty. That is the quest calling for sinking 2 Navy Ships and going back to Gibbs. In that quest the wording is as follows "Send a pair of Navy buckets to the bottom" then the next line is "Sink 2 Navy ships"

Beside the line sink two Navy ships it says complete and yet I can't get on to another quest and Gibbs ignores me. Am I missing something here? Are there two thinks to do? One send a pair of buckets to the bottom and also sink two ships? I always thought "buckets" was referring to "ships" but maybe I need to go out to see and look for some floating "buckets"

In addition to the sink 2 ships didn't you also have to kill 8 navy men? Gibbs wants them both complete before he will talk to you again.

Yeah, I remember that. You need to go back to Port Royal and fight a bunch of them on the hill climb to the fortress. The ones near the bottom are the easiest to battle.

I'm now on another part of this quest, it involved taking down a Navy ship to capture some captain, and now I need to find the Unknown Townsfolk, and I'm lost. Any idea where the Unknown Townsfolk are? >_>

If you can't turn in your quest to Gibbs, restart the game. That worked for me. I am now in the process of getting blood from scorpions and a claw from a crab.

Gibbs won't let you turn that in until you have also sunk two ships, then he'll take both tasks at the same time. Although I had to approach him twice to make him do it, he tried to dismiss me the first time by telling me to ask someone else.

I am almost positive that is two separte quests. I did kill 8 navy men then I got this quest to sink the 2 ships. I'll double chekc but I think I'm right.

You may be right...I have always taken them both at the same time since when he offers them to you no matter which you choose he then offers the other one.

Right, now I remember they were together but I did not realize I could take them together so I took them separatley. I got credit for the 8 gaurds but can't move past the 2 ships, now my quest log looks like this:

I keep going back to him but he always says he has nothing to tell me.

Oh well I'll try again later maybe it will work or maybe it is time for my second character to get built, made, born, whatever.

I am now on the same task as was in the intial post. I have got the scorpions and the copper rod from the ship, but I have defeated dozens of crabs(with most of them coming close to killing me) but still no crab claw. Do you have to beat just the rock crabs or do you have to beat one of the giant crabs?

The quest originally said Giant Crab. Is the wording in it changed now? They are level 10 and better. You can go to Isla Congrejo and shoot at them with your cannon, that island is covered in Giant Crabs. Also, the swamp area in Tortuga, enter at the left of the jail, there's a little swampy patch there and an entrance, go in there, walk to the end of the boardwalk, then go left for the giant crabs. Take elixir with you so you can restore your health. The elixir can be purchased from the Medicine Man on Port Royal.

I finished that quest, and I got my claw from defeating a regular crab on Port Royal. I founf these crabs to the left of the ship shop.

So is the wording of it changed so that it's no longer a GIANT crab?

by my previous posts here you could see I was having problems with the ships and navy guards quest. Well I made a new character and made sure he took both of the quest parts at the same time and completing that chapter 3 quest went quite well.

Now I am on the quest that this thread originally startted with, the crabs, scorpion and copper rod. I have a few questions, first when I am just outside the tavern where Joshamee Gibbs and Carver are located and standing next to Scarlett my compass shows the gold circle and the light beam that usually points you to your objective are just outside this courtyard and yet there are no crabs there, no scorpions and surely no navy ship that has a copper rod. Anyone else have this and if so what is this trying to tell me? My quests mention nothing that this seems to be pointing to.

Now, how do you fight crabs? I can stand right on top of them and never able to engage them. I am talking about the crabs on the beach at Tortuga. I have not yet found any other crabs to see if I can fight them.

Where are the scorpions?

And finally, for the copper rod, do I need to sink a ship or board a ship and fight the navy guys hand to hand? If I need to board how do you accomplish this? Do I fire the grapple? I have tried this and it does not seem to give me a way to board. Or, do I leave my ship and swim up to the Navy ship and hit ctrl to board?

You can kill any crabs, I have found that shooting them from the ship is easiest. If they climb aboard, just sail away and they will fall off. I had to kill 15 giant crabs on my last task and that took a while, but it worked. Also if you try to fight a crab with your sword, make sure that you move your mouse so that you have a red circle on it and are standing above it and you will be able to hit it. the scorpions are in the jungle everywhere in tortuga and you have to sink a navy ship to get the copper rod. Now, if anyone knows where i can find a "dread" scorpion, i would be grateful (my next task). good luck.

It seems those crabs, we can't engage. Looks more like a bug. But the rock crabs on the other side (2 of them) of the beach, you can engage. They are behind the half sunken boat shop. They are lvl 5 tho and since the 2 are both together, they both attack you at the same time. Difficult to fight two lvl 5 rock crabs at the same time, unless you are a high lvl pirate with high lvl cutlass/pistol.

cool, thanks for the info. I did not know you could shoot them from your ship. Actually I have not seen any on the beaches when I was in my ship but I'll look now. As for level I am only at a 2 so I think two level 5 crabs would do me in.

I did find a crab on Port royal that I could fight but my sword did not seem to do any damage. I tried the pistol but never could get far enough away to use it. I have not tried a dagger yet.

Isla Congrejos is full of crabs, you can shoot them from your ship. The giant crabs will board your ship, you just have to get back on the helm and drive off and they drop back into the water. Go to the Medicine Man on Port Royal, he's by the half-ship, and buy some elixir, equip it in f4 then when the crabs get you just f4 and you'll drink yourself back to life.

Yeah, you can shoot the crabs using the cannon on your ship.

Did you also know, you can shoot the skeletons and navy guys on the Navy Ships using your cannon as well? There are some ships you can board. Instead of going over there and fighting them with your sword, shoot them with your cannon. You get the plunder from them in addition to the plunder you get form shooting down the ship.

I need help finding Claude D'Arcis. I am on the quest to find the crew for the black Pearl, on James Pidgley. He wants me to find 3 assassins. I found two, but can't find Claude, who is supposed to be disquised as an EICO officer. He supposedly has a handkerchief that I need. Help.

I also am on this quest and am looking for an EIC officer. I also need an EIC officer for the Greer quest ( i need 2 earrings). I have sunk a ton of EITC ships and no luck. I wonder if anyone has seen an EIC officer anywhere.

Someone posted in another thread to check the cave in Tortuga. I was in there yesterday and it's full of EITC soldiers.

I was able to finish the Claude D'Arcis Quest!

It was completed in the cave on Tortuga. After defeating a "Hired Gun", it mentioned Quest Completed!

There are three inner island entrances from the village. Facing the village from the beach, the rightmost entrance (closest to lumberjack) eventually leads to a cave area.

(The other two entrances are linked. The leftmost entrance is found from the beach / swamp area (left of crocodile and jail exit). It leads to a swamp area and loops back to the middle entrance).

Whew!

Yeah... I don't think the people who write the quests and the people who put the names on the mobs are working together. I had a quest tell me to sink a navy ship, and gave the hint that navy ships' names start with "HMS", but of course they don't! They all say "Navy"!

So there's 5 people we need to get on the Black Pearl to help crew it.

Carver is the quest everyone starts with, it seems.
Cutts, I believe, is the one that can't be done currently because you can't dig up the chest near his house.

So, I skipped ahead to Nill's quest. He's a gambler, and you need to win a lot at Blackjack and Hold'em to start the quest. Basically, you need to repay a person with a gambling addiction's debts. Some fun :rolleyes:

For anyone who still needs to know, the scorpions are on Tortuga. Go to the right, around back. You'll come up to a forest with a bunch of them. You can then keep going deeper if you want - you'll eventually run into Navy guards (level, 10, 12, 13 etc.) in a cave. Yesterday myself and three other guys went back there and cleared the place out. :D

Anyone have any suggestions for the Andrew Bowdash (?) rum running? After getting the scepter he told me to run some rum over to Port Royal and that I should see Orinda to do this. I saw her and she told me my ship would be loaded with it. I went to the dockworker and got my ship, got on but I can't tell if I have rum or not. My cargo is 0/6.

This is my 2nd attempt. My first time I just did a bunch of other things thinking that it may take some time to load it but I never got a msg that it was loaded and Orinda wanted nothing to do with me after she said it'd be loaded. So I dropped, picked up other quests, but am now back at this.

Is it incomplete right now maybe?

Orinda has loaded your ship with the rum. All you need to do is sail to Port Royal and dock and the quest will be complete.

I'm currently on Nill's quest. I need to deliver a note from "the king" and give it to Scarlet. The only problem is that Scarlet isn't working properly? I go up to her character, and she doesn't help my quest go any further. Is anyone else having problems with Scarlet?

Make sure to check the name on the quest, I had one where Greer (guy in the stocks) said he gave his sisters red dress to scarlet, but in the quest I had Cassandra to go see. Then when I got what she wanted I had to return it to Scarlet. A mix up for sure but the quest itself said the names I had to go see.

I'm having a problem with Scarlet also. I am on the Hendry Cutt section and I keep digging up the chest by his house to bring the items back to Scarlet, but the quest never says complete, and Scarlet wont accept it. In the beginning it was stating "quest item found" and "quest updated" when I would dig up the chest, but it never says "Complete" so when I go back to her she does nothing for me.

I'm stuck until they fix this, unless I am doing it wrong. Anyone know?

It's difficult to tell at this point whether a problem with a quest is a bug, or if we are doing it wrong. It's a good thing we have this forum! :)

This quest is what they call incomplete, just drop it and go to the next crew member.
