Dual pirates on the same machine
1 Attachment(s)
I decided to try it out, and it actually works pretty well. I didn't notice any lag. I have a 2.3 Ghz dual-core system with 2G ram. YMMV.
Apologies for the size and picture quality. That's how big my desktop is, and I had to reduce the color depth and bump up the compression to get it under the limit for attachments. You have to make a copy of the PiratesOnline directory, and then run the second instance from there. I turned off the sound on the second copy. It got real confusing. I also dropped all the graphics options on the second copy to their lowest levels. This picture has both windows at the minimum size for illustration, but when I played, I set the first window back up to something reasonable, and kept the second window mostly covered. I used the second pirate for the crew bonus, and to drop heals on the first one. He stayed permanently attuned, and when his health dropped too low, I just clicked my mouse on the "Heal" icon in the second window, then clicked back. If I were just going for the bonus, I'd have kept the primary full-screen, and the second minimized. |
hmmmmm tricky..............lol

Cool. Quick question.
Were both pirates on the same account? Or are they separate accounts? http://pirates.teamofx.us/sigs/1.pnghttp://pirates.teamofx.us/sigs/2.pnghttp://pirates.teamofx.us/sigs/3.png |
I tried to log in to 2 pirates on the account using 2 machines and it will not work.
|
Ive been doing this now for a while, it does come in handy for extra reps and healing without tonic.
I play on a 24" iMac core 2 duo 2.33Ghz with 3 GB ram and it works great. You need to have 2 separate accounts and then link them so you can access the other pirates on your pay membership. Im just wondering how many instances you can run at the same time???? who wants to try and crash their machine with 10 different pirates at the same time! lol. http://www.loganwerks.com/pirates/pirate_sig.jpg |
Aww, does this mean that you can't have two people with the same account on at the same time on different machine?
I just balk at paying for another account...and gasp,.... starting all over. I know some of you like to level to the max and start another pirate, butI hate repeating things. |

You can link accounts by logging on to the main pirates website, and then selecting "Manage Account". There's a "Link an Account" option under it. When the accounts are linked, you can switch from one account to the other from the pirate selection screen. |
Huh? how does that work?
|
To link accounts, go to www.piratesonline.com. Log in there with your pay account. Go to manage account and link account. There link your pay account with a basic account you have created. Then u log in with the basic account on one comp and standard on the other. On the basic you just click the arrow on the log in name on your "Pick a pirate" screen...it switched u over to your paid account.

Thanks man, I will have to try that out. What if one acct gets banned? do both get it? (not that I plan on it but I've gotten banned once for dumb stuff)
|
Well, Dont get banned :)
BTW Uve got PM |
but... that's just so hard to do :P Disney thinks if you sneeze the wrong way you should be banned. lol
|
I couldn't run two copies of the game, either. When I tried, it messed up the first copy and I ended up having to reinstall the whole game. I don't think i'll try that again any time soon!
|
It worked for me on 2 separate machines. :)
|
The only weird thing I had happen was this.
|
Here it is
here is a screen cap of how I run it, although the smaller screen is usually in the back, and I only switch to it to heal and move a bit to keep it from goin AFK.

Doing the dual thing is pretty cool though - it's kind of fun to see both girlies side by side, and I was able to give myself some money (Piper's kinda poor...). :laughks2: |
I think the snow issue is because of lack of video memory to support both at the same time. Ive seen it happen on others PCs. I might be wrong though.
|
just to be sure if i link the two account do I have to pay for two or only for 1

GETTING TECHNICAL: POTCO sets the Affinity to only utilize the first CPU Core of my DualCore. Using "Task Manager" I must manually set the Affinity for one of the instances of pirates.exe to the second core. If this step is not taken the 2 instances of POTCO will be fight over the first CPU Core while the second sits dormant. However once the tweak is done I have no Lag running 2 instances of POTCO. Also POTCO needs 1GB of RAM to run smoothly. If you run 2 instances you will need 2GB. However, POTCO admits to having a memory leak. Over time the game gets slower and slower as it eats more RAM. This happens twice as fast running 2 instances of POTCO. A simple restart of the game will clean out the RAM. Hope this helps someone. :) My System: AMD Opteron DualCore 2.8GHz 2GB RAM Nvidia 8800 GTS 512MB G92 WinXP SP2 |
