No Chat
 

After learning the day before yesterday that the little plus sign in the chat window was the chat filter on/off button and being absolutey overjoyed about being able to type regularly, I log in last night only to find that I couldn't engage the chat window at all. I couldn't input any type, I could only use the preloaded emotes and chats under the shull in the chat window. I could do any of those in all three chats local, crew, and guild.

I logged out and bank in with no change. I restared my machine and logged back in with no change.

Anyone ever have this happen to them?

The only time Ive had it is when my Keyboard glitches up. However since you were able to type this I dont think that was ur case. Sorry cant help more.

The same thing happened to me a week or so ago. The quickest way to drive me crazy is to not let me talk!

Fortunately, my issue was resolved by logging off then back on again.

I have had it happen to me while playing.. the chat window stops coming up (at least it did for me). I was fortunate in that logging out, exiting the program, restarting it resolved the issue. If it continues I would recommend contacting the live chat support on the official site (any phone calls will likely direct you there anyhow).

Have you tried to add the plus back in to see if maybe your account has parental controls on it?

i have been having chat probs for a week my other frnds too having to log out........ for a bit we thought everyone was ignoring each other, how sad

There doesn't seem to be a way to get the plus sign back from in-game.

Well, after further investigation it looks to me like I have activated the parental controls and for some reason I can't deactivate them. I was on the DxD site yesterday and I wasn't paying attention to where I was clicking. I had a "confirmation" e-mail at home last night saying I had requested speedchat plus.

OMG, I am the dumbest pirate! Arrrrr!

Anyway, thanks to everyone for pitching in. I'll post again after I get it all resolved in case it can help anyone else.

no it is a glitch bc i have never had the white cross on and last night i logged in could type fine but when we docked the ship i could not type i could only enter pre set type so i logged back in and it worked normal its just a glitch

I could never get a re-log to clear my problem. And all ths started after I made my channel on the Disney xD site. It had something to do with the parental controls.

I've just gotten off the phone with Ricky at Customer Support. After confirming all the necessary information and doing some checking on his end, Ricky tells that he has fixed my problem. :dancetl6:

I asked him if he could log into the game from where he was. He could and did. He says everything with the chat appears normal on my pirate. I can't confirm this until I get home this evening but when I do I'll make another post.

Yes, there is a glitch in the chat system, that some people cant use it for some reason, relogging usually fixes it. However if you set your account accordingly on DxD, it can also prohibit you. Perhaps thats where part of the glitch is tied. It decides to implement controls on us suddenly that we didnt request, hehe.

I have had problems with others not seeing my chat too. . . a couple time a low level player has asked me for help and when I tried to reply (repeatedly) they never saw my answer "sure what do you need" so they teleported away. . . I hate that, makes me feel like a . . . . . well, you know . . . ;) how do I fix a problem like that it has happened with the plus on and with it off. do I need to contact support?

I have had my chat glitch like this before, usually after someone used their staff or fireballs on the high seas. I was able to at least whisper to someone so they could tell the others I was having chat issues. Relogging usually fixed it, but it's still a hassle to have to crew up again.

Try the whisper when that happens, if nothing else, to let them know you're having issues and that you'll either brb or have to whisper everything.

Is there a way to get that annoying plus to stay off? It comes on and off randomly for me. I think when I click the chat box to type in it turns on and off every other time.

Im sure my mommy doesnt mine me not having parent controls, especially since I havent lived at home in more than 28 years.:laughks2:

I have a guildmate that hasn't been able to chat in two weeks. We have to be near him and type in live so the bubble pops over our head.

We've perfected pirate sign-language.

I tried the whisper just now and the person I was speaking to seemed not to be getting the message, either that or he just wasn't "getting the message" ;) LOL He wanted to join my guild, which really isn't a guild, just a name I gave myself. . . . . and I was trying to politely tell him that. . . . maybe he just wasn't taking no for an answer, dunno.


It is frustrating. I never know if what I say is getting through, funny thing even when I see the bubble, sometimes it seems like nobody else can! They really should fix this. :sadmh9:

I think there are a few different varied levels of parental controls at hand here, some of which I think block ALL but speedchat.

Kids just not knowing how to spell, type, or communicate may be part of the problem also.


I have played the game with my coworkers 11 year old. He had NO parental controls to complicate communication. It was all I could do to get him to tell me what he needed, and I KNEW he could see what I was telling him. Between attention span, and not wanting to type, etc.. it was frustrating. But not his fault, hes 11. Smart kid, but a youngster just the same.

Well, first thing I would do is complain to the POTCO people. This is a major inconvenience in a game with no other way to communicate.


As for the plus sign, it comes on whenever you click the little though bubble next to the chat box. Maybe you're accidently double clicking? Easy to do since the chat arrow is right where the thought bubble appears.

I have a friend that has had chat issues, but it's because he sometimes uses a laptop, and the graphics card on it can't handle the smaller details, such as chat. He can type to me, but he can't read anything. He would ask me a yes/no questions. Then he had me wave at him for yes, and do the no motion for no. It was funny, at the time. Had to learn a whole new way of communicating in the game.

I've had the chat glitch a few times myself, and luckily all I've had to do was log out and log back in and it was fixed. Not being able to talk REALLY annoys me, lol.

I've had this issue more than once. The way I understand it is that children with parental controls set cannot see our chat at all. I've had people ask me for help and no matter how I try to answer them they would not see an answer. I felt so bad for this poor girl, she said "gee it was a simple question, why won't you answer me?" As a Mom, I felt really bad she thought I was being rude! Is there any way around this? I even tried the pre-typed chat but they can't see that either. I wish there was at least a way to say "Sorry, I can't help you."

I've had problems with chat since I became a member about a month ago. Same issues as everyone else; some chats I can see, some I cannot and vice-versa. Whats really frustrating is the Guild I joined can see my chat but I cannot see theirs. The only time I am able to participate with the Guild is when my friend and I are on the phone. He tells me whats going on. Whisper doesn't always work either; my friend can see my whisper but I cannot see his.
So frustrating! Logging out and back on has no affect. I will try contacting support and post another reply with the outcome. Wish me luck!
