Holy smokes do not underestimate the new Spanish deaders!
As I was sailing to investigate the new islands, a 28 spanish warsloop spawned off my port side. I instantly hit it with abroadside and all cannons hit its starboard side and barely dented it.
It hit me with a broadside of firebrands as well as 3 lightning shots and took me warfrigate to half life :O as it showed its backside to me I manned the cannon while my broadside was recharging, as I can usually take out sloops before they turn around on the cannon... but my cannoneering was barely scratching it as well. As it came back around I tried to avoid its broadside and failed miserably... Broadside number 2 sent me to the bottom. Be very very careful if you see them :P I'm looking forward to seeing how tough their land units are! Here it is right after it spawned off my port and I hit it with the first broadside. http://members.cox.net/hellebore/meanspanish.jpg |
LOL I can relate. I was taken down for the first time in a long time on my war galleon. I had a lvl 23 Crow take me with Explosives!! Yes, explosives....I dont care, Im still like a kid in a candy store :)
|
Haha glad its not just me cought by suprise! I loved it too :D
Did you talk to the people on the french and spanish islands? It looks like some big battles are coming and we can sign up to take part for a side :P |
Yeah, I even picked up the quest From Orinda De La June on Tortuga dock. Havent done anything but pick it up though. Heres my thread on my demise. Had a blast (no pun intended):
http://www.piratesonlineforums.com/f...ead.php?t=5351 I will be back later...with reinforcements! |
Those ships will have many spawns of undeads when we board them so the best strategy after we disable them is to NOT board them immediately but fire grape shots at the spawning undeads until the clock down to 20 second or less. With this strategy we will only have to deal with less undeads when we board them. Remember that the easiest ship is Shadow Crow, the medium is Cerberus and the hardest is Blood Scourge. The last one will spawn undead lieutenant/pirata and capitaine/captain and will be as hard as Colosus.
|
So far I havn't seen any deader crew that isn't grey, staff makes quick work of them. Hopefully I'll see some bigger ones soon :D
|
Only one I haven't went up against is the Blood Scourge. Looks like a challenge though. I went after the others solo on my war sloop. That was fun! I really can't wait to see them add the rest of the story to the French vs. Spanish battle. Seems like Davy Jones will be involved as well.
|
Those are some tough ships. :) I got the Shadow Crow, No Problem, the Cerberus took some extra hitting, but the crew was tame. Now on to the Blood Scourge, think I'll be needing a crew for that one :)
|
Blimey! Gadflies be look'n at a real challenge now! Tonight we set sail!
|
took em all down other then the scurge, boarded it with vodoo doll i had 2 guys left to kill and had only one potion with me, so went down ,staff might have been a better choice for the scurge crew. but all def fun
|
their weakness is their sails, took down all the sails of a level 17 flag today with 1 lightning hit.

Last attempt was bugged though, the re-spawns ran off the bow and were out of range of everything. I seemed to be well in range of them however, and they once again kicked my tush right to jail. One more solo try for me, then I'm waiting for my guildies to get on line :) |
LOL Give me a few and I'll get angel to take them for a spin. Still cant use hunter yet :(
|
Wowzas, they took on Snorri... they may be almost tough enough to almost be a challenge.
|
Got It!
After I grappled the ship, I waited for the timer to go down to about 30 seconds, all the while lobbing nades and taking out the skeles. Broke out the staff, took them out quick, and didn't have any spawns. Nice. Thanks again Ironhawk for the tip. Now on to the French.... muhahaha |
oce i boarded one I was lagging so bad that I was gone in an instant
|
Decided to board a Spanish Blood Scourge (level 29) solo (I'm 38). Was reduced to using life drain twice, and had to drink a tonic to survive. 6 Voodoo users at one time! Fun!
|
yea i still find it kinda unfair that enemies can use thunderbolt chain shot fire and now explosive broads on us
|
Well, I did a 28 by myself (40) and had no trouble, though I did grape the guys on deck before boarding.
I'm not sure how many there were that spawned, I think three or four, but they were gray voodoos that stayed together; two flames and they were gone. |
yea grape shots actually come very handy and today marks the day i finally used up all my grape shots lol

Clearing the deck was the first thing I did, before boarding. Did the quest and all the ships before I even heard there are like three spawns if you just board. Btw I never waited 30 seconds or anything.
Watch the spawns on top of ya, or taking a crew out with a approaching ship. A couple times I had that happen, and took fire before I was even on my ship or could move towards the wheel. |
I have noticed the Spanish / French / Jolly Ghost ships got an HP boost (took several lighting and broadsides to bring a War Sloop down??) and they do shoot the firepower at you (sorta - it didn't damage the WF too much) - but the crews are mixed up - a L29 ghost ship with only L9-11 crew.. but a L19 ship with L17 crew? :D LOL
Note - a driect broadside hit (not front or rear) did MUCH more damage (10% vs 60%) on the Ghost Sloops... just an FYI :) |
By the way to all of you clearing the deck with cannons.. let me know about your experiances but I am having worse luck doing that. When I clear the deck with cannons then board, they respawn at a higher level. I nearly got killed by clearing the deck of greys and when I boarded they were all yellow voodoo users that were immune to my hex bullets :O
When I just board strait away and staff down the greys quickly it goes much better |
immune to hex bullets? ive boarded 4 of the spanish ships so far and all of the vodoo casters ive come across were affected by my hex bullets like normal. they didnt seem much different than an undead gypsy to me.
|
maybe the one I was desperately trying to neutralize while it voodoo'd a guildy was just a glitch then.
No blue numbers at all. Seemed like I was shooting lead shot. |

Just my observation after several attempts yesterday, I could be totally wrong. |

I forgot about nades. Staff is useless before boarding though.

I worked on the quest last night with a friend and then with a bigger crew as some of my guildmates were doing it too.
After reading here about clearing the decks, I gave it a shot (grape that is) and it made the ships very easy to take. The sails came down on the sloops very easily and then they sat there. Then grappled, cleared the deck and boarded. Once on the ship, a few flaming skulls or someone using a doll mopped up the re-spawned crew pretty easily. If only the navy/eitc ships were this easy. The trick seems to be to engage these ships from a distance (and being sloops they can't shoot directly forward). But the Spanish ships seem to be giving good plunder (or better than the French). And for the new islands, I have started to call them Porky's and Greedo's. |
I never put a point in grape, but I find that the regular round shot works just fine for clearing the decks. You just have to take an extra moment to aim.
|
We couldn't find any French ships that could give us a decent fight onboard last night - did take us a while to take down the Blood Scourge, but when we did, we scored THREE Royal Chests. Took home a record booty on my reg'lar frigate. I was a happy captain.
|
that blood scourge took me down in my war galleon. it was ghost shots, one right after the other! then i was glitched underwater with my ship. i could see my name but not my pirate.
now when i go out i go out with a crew! lol |
Also, I don't know about the Navy/EITC ships being so tough anymore.
Last night, soloing, I was taking down the Colossus Flag and other big ships (L30-38, No juggies to be had!) with little to no effort. It appears the seas south of PDF are just rife with the high level navy and EITC spawn points, but they're much more random about WHEN they spawn now. So camping a known point becomes much more difficult. |
I noticed that Nathaniel! Even with a crew on my frigate, Colossus is hard for me to take down, and we were shooting them down last night like light sloops.
|
I'm glad they move the spawn points around, I wish they could do it so that a spawn was always random as well as the spawn point itself always being random. A good example as to why would be the new ships and quest, I had a harder time getting the spanish cerberus due to three ships camping its spawn point than I did actually defeating it.
|
I wish they would bring back Juggy. Anyone found him yet?

OMG I would love for him to be a flag!!! Colossous is gettin boring.
|
LOL i KNEw somethin was up with those new skeletons!
xD (JAG,E.D.M.) Guide to the Unknown |
I thought they made the Navy/EITC a bit tougher.. Im level 18 with lvl 17 sailing, and could easily solo the mid 20s before last night.. Now I have to be careful..
|
Me and my friend tottally underestimated the new spanish enemys :P We got owned really quick!
