Could I get Banned?...

I need to somehow tell a guildmate about POF. I suppose I could use more vague directions, for instance, telling them to google search for it. That may provide a method for which I don't have to post a URL. I just really do not want to take the chance of being banned. I like to keep a clean track record. I understand such bannable situations can be for more specific websites such as the notorious ones that I can not even utter the names of here. However, I know there are a multitude of different Disney employees that keep watch over these things and make different assumptions over URLs. Disney Employee A might over look this as the innocent thing this is while Disney Employee B may be quick to judge, perhaps thinking I may be a sicko luring a child into less moderated waters.

See my dilemma? I really want all my guild members to be familiar with this helpful and friendly community. Any suggestions?

I've told people to sign up here by just being vague, by telling them to use keywords like pirates, disney, online, forum, on google, and its the first page hit.

then again, i should have been banned for alot of things, so YRMV.

idk i too am facing this problem how to tell my friends about it

Snorri 05-26-2008 03:27 PM

I told people to go to pirates online forums, usually they are smart enough to google it or just add the dot com. No ban so far!

I think they just don't like you giving URLS

Sarah 05-26-2008 03:28 PM

I've typed in "pirates on line forums" before without any problems. Could have been an oversite on Disney's part, or that may just be accepable.

DarkScarlett 05-26-2008 04:10 PM

i have typeed " do a popular search engine on the game title" usually the forum pops up on google as one of the top ones i also tell them to " search engine my pirate nane" that comes up too from my post's on the site, takes them to guest view, from there they can navigate to register, keeping in game pirate name attached to things like email and web has helped me in the work around,to oute limit communicATION VERY NICLEY

Angel 05-26-2008 08:54 PM

Watch out. Even being creative they catch you. I got Das Boot for typing out something using only Caps for the letters that were in the word.

rade775 05-26-2008 09:50 PM

i said disney ( no space ) online ( no space) world . c o m once and i never got banned

Lady Freckles 05-27-2008 01:04 AM

You could try using separate lines for each word - I've successfully steered people here that way and avoided the ban.

Pirates
Online
Forums

If you really want to be careful, could insert some general chatter in between and hope that the person you are talking to can read between the lines.

I they be dunderheaded enough not to search it and find it....well.....me thinks it explains itself

Bella 05-27-2008 02:27 AM

Let me put it to you like this: If you BREATHE Big D will suspend you.

But I have talked with them and if you type in "piratesonlineforums and use the standard ending" you should be ok. If not raise H-E-doubble hockey sticks with them.

Does giving someone the address to this forums site fall under this - "No Cheating - Any use of third party programs is not allowed. Players who use any third party programs while playing risk being permanently banned."

If not I don't see anything in the chat policies that says we can't. Are there some other detailed chat policies Disney has for all of their sites that I'm missing?

Chat policies from the official site:

The Pirates Online Code of Conduct:

Respect your fellow pirates - Pirates of the Caribbean Online does not tolerate any swearing, cheating, bullying or overt harassment toward other players. Disciplinary action will be taken should any one of these occur while playing.

Never reveal any of your personal information - The best way to ensure you stay safe online is to NEVER share your real name, phone number, address, email or passwords with anyone.

No inappropriate talk - References to ***** and sexual, racial or otherwise inappropriate talk are not permitted and are grounds for removal from the game.

No Cheating - Any use of third party programs is not allowed. Players who use any third party programs while playing risk being permanently banned.

This place is the one place I havent been suspended for giving out the url. Even with creative ways they will cut and paste them all together and point that out.

Haffgrim 05-27-2008 12:57 PM

I told my friends about dinsney DXD And i never got the ban but why would they ban for talking biout a forum that's all about THERE GAME??

Bilgepump 05-27-2008 01:44 PM

I've used "poforums" with no problems.

Warmare 05-27-2008 04:08 PM

Are you guys trying to tell me that Disney wants this place to be a secret society or something? Why not send URLs? What is the big deal? It's a Disney site, for Poseidon's sake! What is more Family Friendly than Disney?

I am one confused scallywag....I never in a million years would think that sending my friends a URL to this wonderful game woud be a bannable offense. In my world, bannable offenses are things like saying 'adult' words, stalking players, harrasment...you know, real bad stuff. Not trying to share a fantastic game with your friends (all of whom are over 21, just so I permanently date myself. LOL)

Then again, maybe I misunderstood and jumped the gun (hey it happens. lol). So please enlighten me...why are we not supposed to send our friends URLs of this forum or the game? Is ther some logical reason or is it "Just because the Mouse said not to."?

Angel 05-27-2008 08:32 PM

You are not to give out any info that may be construed as personal info. Anything with a dot com addy could be potentially a bannable offense. Saying the word Yahoo messenger will also get you banned. MSN, AOL, Yahoo, E-mail, .com etc...those will all have your chat log looked at and potentially suspended.

Diego Birmingham 05-27-2008 08:48 PM

A flaw in your question is giving people in the game the url for the game. Why would they need it? :)

I agree that it would be nice to be able to send people HERE openly. On the other hand I've shared with some of my RL friends/guildies/wife and they haven't joined.

Angel 05-27-2008 09:02 PM

I think he means the URL for this site while in game play.

Tab1975 05-27-2008 09:11 PM

I've just decided I wanna work for the Disney POTC censors.

You will never be able to use the word "banana" again. Fear me.

Whitedog 05-28-2008 03:15 AM

FWIW I have told at least a dozen ppl to "just search for pirates online forums on Google," and I've never been spanked with the ban paddle.

Maximvs 05-28-2008 03:25 AM

What really burns is Diensy encouraged the making of Pirate Guild Websites by supplying a Web Designers Kit (with Banner, Coins, Backgrounds and the like) then once you have it done you can't tell anyone about it... its like they almost set you up for a Ban in that one... :)

Hehehe! Very good point...though I still understand why they would want to enforce these rules (think of the childeren!)...but it is pretty darn contradicting of them to encourage and support fan sites with the kits. :laughks2: I dunno...it's all a bit wishy-washy. I did a google search for "Lucrecia Merlose" and indeed this site was the only one mentioned. I'll just be sure to use the term "search engine" and not google since google does offer some self identification features (gmail) and I don't want to make the alarms go off at Big D HQ.
