Latest updates... who the enemies attack.
Im kind of mixed on the way recent updates changed how the various enemies attack. They now change to whoever is doing the most damage at the time (or at least appear to).
I used to use this to help my lower level friends when I wanted to, taking the brunt of the attacks helping them achieve various tasks. I can still help similarly, but I have to keep an eye on things a bit more in case they turn from me, towards my friends. But on the positive side... I had a low level guy chasing me around rummrunners isle. He kept running up and attacking whatever i'd attack. I asked him if I could help him, but he ignored me, and continued to follow me. No matter what I said, he wouldnt respond, or leave me alone. So... I started attacking this giant crab, he took a whack at it.. I stopped attacking... he hit it a few more times (not noticing i'd stopped apparently). Well that Giant Crab turned and took care of that problem for me.. in a matter of seconds. I didnt like how this update worked at first but im seeing the light! Zeppers lvl40 http://pirates.teamofx.us |
lol. im sorry about that man. but yea, that happened to me too. it made me  and just....anyway. i know im not that far into the game, but it was still annoyin. i know i do that every now and then, cause sometimes i do end up attack the same thing that other people were doing. but that's only because i was either attacking the same thing- or they were about to die. lol.

yes that is how they work it is who is currently doing the most damage which is why when a lower lvl attacks the same guy i am i stop wait a mintue the enemy turns and attacks and kills the other guy

However, with ships...not so good. I like being able to tag something and have it sail right to me. I don't even really care if other people shoot it on the way, as long as it doesn't change course on me (my aim's terrible, LoL). |
I love it.
Helping your low level (Level 12 or less) friends beat brigands is one thing, helping them get cheap and easy rep by grinding away at badguys in Tormentia is another story. It does encourage bigger crews, and forces everyone to have to watch out for each other, rather than have one Tank and eight vultures. |
I am mixed as well on the enemy turnaround. I liked the idea of being bait to my lower lvl friends. It helps them lvl and I can play bodyguard, however now I gotta resort to my doll incase things go from good to worse.

I like this and at the same time I don't. I like it because if someone is bothering me while I attack, I would stop and enjoy the two-second-show. LOL The bad side is that helping lower lvl friends and guildes will be a lot harder and more confusing now, more work for the one helping.

i dont see the big problem in helping lower levels level up,
as i wouldnt even dare have them fighting enemies they could NOT kill by themselves anyways, if barely (HP in the red etc), so i dont have any issues with tanking the majority of hits (i use status modifyer attacks, dirt, curse, taunt, etc, they register just as much as me attacking the enemy so i get a few hits on me as well, while adding a bunch of effects to screw up the enemies aim or resistance etc, while keeping the majority of the rep for a friend, healing as needed), its not like im sending my level 20 friends against a few seabeards anyways. its the friends who say lets go attack "insert an enemy name 10 levels above their current level" that really need a reality lesson, i can only do so much, if they wanna take a swing..i aint gonna stop em, have fun in jail :) |
I never let my guildies attack anything too dangerous for them, unless it's a Cutlass-user and they're using doll. Even then, I'm cautious - for example, if a level 25 guildie wanted to attack a seabeard, I wouldn't let him. I'd have to either be healing him, or I would attack with him.
This makes things much harder for high level players, though. Sometimes when new players attack high level things, I go attack with them. Once they die, the enemy returns to its original spot and is bugged for about 10 minutes - you can attack it all you want and it will not attack you back. With this new update, the enemies will probably switch their attacks over to the higher level player. |
Just get on opposite sides of a ship and blast at it everytime it turns towards the other ship. That way, it will basically stay in the middle. I recomend having the ship being half in the radar or outside it. That way theres no way it will blast at anyone.

So they made it more realistic...I mean seriously...how dumb was it before when the enemy only hit the first person to hit him? Totally dumb...who would do that in real life? |
LOL, now they have us like gangs all ganging up on one enemy.

As for the rest of the creatures - we never used them (well - except for Giant Crabs on the odd occasion - but we can do without them) and the new feature keeps the 'gulls' somewhat at bay :) |
Love it!

I was in Beckett's Quarry tonight leveling my dagger on the Assassins (great place to do it, BTW) when this level 10 dude runs up behind me. He "heals" me with his doll (I was at full strength) which of course is the universal sign for, "Now I can hang out with you!" So I go back to attacking the level 30 Assassin and this guy waits and then gets some blows in before I finish him off. I turn to the level 32 Assassin behind me and he does the same thing. This time I pause oh so briefly between blows to allow him to get one hit in with cutlass. He does and the Assassin turns and murders him with one cut! I enjoyed it. :sp003: |
You let the guy hanging out with you get assainated? For shame chema, for shame!

So I was messing around with a new character at the Fort in Port Royal last night, there were a few other low level characters there as well and this one guy that was in his high teens as far as notoriety went, we was killing everything, leaving nothing for anyone else, it was rather rude. So I jump on one of the higher level grunts he was beating on(since he had so 'kindly' killed everything else), he try'd the back off and let the grunt kill me tactic, it back fired on him, I took a beating then jumped off the wall, the grunt turned around and killed him, I circled back up and got the kill.
I don't know why some people have to be so rude, there was no reason for this guy to be killing all the level 1-4 cadets like he was. Its not like the others and myself were piggy backing his kills or something. |

What's even better is if they're a mid-level trying to play with the big kids, and then demand to be healed every two seconds because they healed you. I'll only play that game for so long before I start to get a little slow in my response time... :laughks2: |

When I was level 10, I didn't even know where Padres was! One of the greatest lessons I learned was just getting too close to the Mercenary at PR. I was dead before I could touch a key on the keyboard. It was an excellent education on the limits of being a lower-level character. Players need to learn that there will not always be a higher-level character around the save them. Besides, I didn't come up with this character name by accident. Elsewhere I used to RP this demon I am named after and I was merciless. I am a LOT nicer on POTCO and try to help n00bs when I can, but we are bloodthirsty pirates after all, aren't we? :pirate111za1: |

You did the right thing setting up the noob to get assassinated. I would've even attuned him and promised to heal him, then did nothing as he died. Maybe even crew him first to make it look like you're being nice. |
IMO if you cant do it on your own, then you should be doing it at all. Thats how I am on the issue. Unless you go in and have a game plan in advance, thats the only way I will help someone. Occasionally if I see someone in need, and I can help them I will heal them while they battle the uglies. I get alot of courteous pirates that say thanks, others that just run off without a word...they get the imaginary bird.

I had to do it alone (and my second pirate I STILL did most of it alone) - its how you get the REP required + the experience (it looks SO funny to see a L29 with L4 sailing? Whats up with that? LOL - I had my War Frigate at L24 with my Second Pirate...) its how you learn 'tricks of the trade' and still survive - many of the 'gulls' wouldn't know how to make it on their own just because they don't have the experience of what it takes to handle a higher level enemy (switching weapons fast - using weapons in certain order for certain ones...) - you learn or be the example :) |
when I help someone I tend to try and let them experience it so they know how its done rather than looking for me to do it for them.

I think the attacking update has its ups and downs. You can use it to get others killed (always fun). But sometimes its just plain annoying.
For example i was on yesterday killing seaveards and this guy with a doll kept running upto them, so whilst i was hitting him with a cutlass, dealing 180 dmg- 200 dmg a hit but he was using swarm dealing 500 dmg, so the seabeard started running after him. It just gets so anoying when moochers come in and take your kills. |
kill stealers are definitely annoying, even more so when it comes to ships, no one seems to have much etiquette out on the high seas
