My favorite friend request ever
 

Let me start out by saying I HATE when I'm asked to be friends when the person hasn't spoken a word to me. I just click "No" and be done with it. Soooo:

Friday night I was finishing up the new weapons quests when I docked on Tortuga to repair my ship. A Not: 8 girl asked to be my friend and I declined. To my surprise she whispered to me "I'M GOING TO REPORT YOU!" and ran off hitting the space bar over and over to make herself jump. So I thought I would introduce this young lady to manners. I answered, "I'm sorry, I don't become friends with someone whom I haven't spoken to yet." Her reply was "You're stupid." I'm just laughing and I typed, "Why would I want to be friends with someone who is mean to me and is going to report me for choosing not to be friends with someone I haven't spoken with?" and I headed to the dock to get back on my ship. She tells me "All the people in my guild like me and I'm in one of the BIGGEST guilds ever so you should be my friend." I decided to be a bit of a be-ach and said, "I was a beta tester for this game and was a guild member of THE biggest guild on beta." I decided to wait on the dock to see what she would say. She asked what a beta tester was and I explained. She then begged me to be her friend saying "come on, be my friend, I've had a bad day and already got slapped in the face.". Then she said, "you'll love my friend, they are the same level as you (32)." I politely declined they set sail into the sunset. Too funny.

Just thought I'd share that as it still makes me chuckle.

Funny! At least she talked back to you though. Whenever I pose the "and why should we be friends, we haven't even spoken yet" question, I get blank stares and silence :)

its just a game to me so i dont worry much about invites.

so i accept, and when they log off, i delete em, unless they make an effort to talk to me and get to know me during the time they are on. as thats the whole purpose of being someones friend i thought..

Perhaps you should have told her that you are not in her guild, and that choosing friends based on an affiliation is foolhardy. You select your friends based on who YOU like, and not whom OTHERS like.

I give them the question about why should I be your friend, and 9 times out of 10... they run off!

I to always click no, if I've been doing something with them, whether we have talked or not, and they seem to be respectful of me and understanding of the game, I typically say yes, and in some cases propose the friendship myself :)

I havn't had any one throw a temper tantrum like that with me yet lol but I have had some little boys try to start following me everywhere I go, a couple actually were already on my friendslist(probably from my first couple days playing I suspect) , they are no longer on my friends list lol.

as the game tell u chose ur friends wisely, it ur choice to pick not ther , i have no problem saying no , sound to me u made the right choice lol

That's pretty funny! I've had lots of random friend requests, but no one ever has ever said anything to me when I've said no...which is my usual response.

I used to do the accept then delete when they signed off, but I felt bad about that so I don't do it anymore. Nowadays I'm just very selective on who I friend, and clean up my friends list from time to time based on who I haven't seen online in a long time, who I haven't played with in a long time, who I don't remember (lots of those [darn similar names...] LoL), and who has annoyed me by TPing to me without asking.

Really, there are only a few people I would actually consider game friends on my list. :)

Just an FYI: I'm 47 so am able to sit back and find humor in how the kids play. And as most have said, they usually don't answer if you ask why I should be their friends. But for her to have replied that she's reporting me the moment I clicked "NO" was too funny. I wanted to tell her Disney has more important things to worry about but I needed to get dinner started.

I have to say I don't get too many friend request lately...then again I always pick quiet servers.

Do what i do, ask them something totally off the wall.

Like, "what's the capitol of South Dakota?" If they can't answer, say," got to know that to be my friend". If they do answer, say,"sorry, but people who know to much can't be my friends"

i just say no and move on with my life if i am mad i yell at them if they talk back i have a good ole time

Once in tortuga, I got sent to jail, and there wuz this 3rd level guy asking an 11th level girl to be his girlfriend, good thing is she said no! But then he asked me to be his friend and said, ya wanna be my girlfriend? So i used some advice from my friends and said, give me ten reasons why. Really :Odd

I would laugh if just asking that question would get you banned.....not laugh persay at you but at Disney. Cause "your giving out personal info" even though your not. I usually do the general, and X the box. Once in a while I'll get a stick up my ...... and ask why should I be friends if they dont even have the courteousy to say hi first.

Here's what I do, I click no and continue my life. Decline, move on. But I always found it funny when people ask why not and try to force me to be their friend. :laughks2:

LOL - I also refuse friend requests from randoms that just run up to me and click the friends button without saying a word.

This dude didn't even bother to try to friend me, he just wanted info ...

I was away from the computer and had left my character facing a wall in PR, came back to some guy (level 8 or 9 iirc) repeatedly asking me if I was a member. I contemplated just walking away, then answered him and said yes, I was a member. He then asked me the same thing 3 more times so I told him, "Yes, I'm a member and I've answered you 3 times already." Guy then says, "You are, can I have your ID and pass then." My response...HAHAHAHA, you just got yourself reported, as I took a screenshot. Figured he got himself a case of THE BAN.

I tend to only make friends with people I've played with and had fun with and would love to see a 'turn friends off' option like we have on TT.

I like to get to know the person by talking a lot first. Sometimes noob friend requests are funny, though.

Aye, that would make all the difference. I suggested that in the questionaire they sent out. Hope it happens.

Is ignoring the same as deleting?

I don't have a delete button. I've just started my game so I'm saying yes to everyone who asks. (I didn't want to be rude) So I ended up getting on some else's ship. I could get on the cannon and sink ships, but I couldn't figure out how to get off it to go shoot the cannon on the other side. He wouldn't talk to me. Then on land all I could get were one word answers, "come" "go" I can't communicate that way.

I used to say yes to all friend invites... until one of them made me regret it. That day, my friend list got alot shorter. I'd have to say, its better to get to know them first. Like instead of saying yes, add them to your crew and see if they'er worth the friendship.

To remove someone from your friends list you have to click their name, click friendship, and then click stop. I'm actually not sure what ignore actually does; I've never used it. :tongue8:

And it's not rude to say no to people's friend requests - if you don't know them, why should you be their friend?


I'm actually growing more and more skeptical of people who want to be my friend because lately it seems they all want me to be is their muscle or their way to quick and easy gold... :sadmh9:

I am currently a level 24 with Leon Sharkshot and a level 16 with Rose Truesilver. As rose truesilver I choose to pick a variety of friends. Boys, girls, high levels, low levels. But it seems that every high level I click on deems me unworthy to speak to them or something and asks me to go away.

Not all high levels are like this to me though. That's how I made my best friend in the world: Andrea Stabnshank.

Some high levels can be picky and I understand their worries. Some lower levels can be a pain!!!

Not all low'ish level players want to be your friend just for money and rep though. Some want somebody to hang out with like I do and broaden their horizons in the world of pirates. I can respect that.

I'm always careful who I befriend, after all, that IS the number 1 pirate rule!!!

I wont friend thsoe fly by frienders. However if someone takes the time to actually stop and say hi and chat with me thats a different story. The Fly-by-frienders just want me for my lvl.:smiley23:

Knowing Angel...Yes

I have noticed some high lvls with their nose in the air. I can be Playing Charlie and the higher lvs will talk to me or even team up on quests. However, I can get my baby pirate and return to the same place and server. I will show up and low and behold they will wait for her to be attacked then steel the rep.....Yes I have tried this. They had NO IDEA I was the same person at the keyboard.

I've definitely seen some snooty high level players, but I've met a lot of really nice ones, too.

For me, I have the most fun when I know I'm playing with people because we genuinely enjoy each other's company (and that has nothing to do with levels). :)

LOL, yeah I forgot the ROFL smiley. I have friends that are lvl 6 all the way up (the 6 was a 1 when I friended him, hes just growing). To me, size dont matter, its who you are that counts.

Goes to show, that you never know if that "baby" pirate you're running into is someones first pirate, or fourth. Well, unless of couse you run across a lev one with a founders medalion...I've had my lev two pitrate get hit with fly-by friend requests, and I'm guessing it's because of the gold name.

I'll try to help anyone who asks first. Let me know what quest you're on, and see if I can give some guidance, or lend a cutlass. Just click on me without a word...no thanks.

i don't really think it's about being a snooty high level. i was once the baby pirate that wanted to be friends with the higher levels and they'd decline. i'd wonder why and realized after i became a high level myself...lower levels really can't help you in battles, their cannon skills aren't high enough to have the really good stuff (thunderbolt, sometimes fire power even).

now on that same note now that i am a high level i do like to take some lower levels under my wing and help them out. some higher levels did that for me when i was just a baby so i like to return the favor. some take advantage and a good majority do not. i'm all for helping out just as long as it's not every single mission the person has. we all need to to learn how to walk sometime!

i've just had a few people on my list that took advantage of my high level status for stuff like that. but i've noticed the people that i'd be attacking enemies with my level 40 character wouldn't fight with my level 15 character. i don't let it get to me though because i understand where they're coming from! lol

i've babbled too much already! just thought i'd through my insight in.

not only that but if i said "yes" to all friends requests....Disney would need to expand the list to unlimited. Not that I'm being mean, but my friends list is just that.....for my friends!

Aye. The main reason I still play pirates is because of my good friends I talk to. And thats about 1 or two people. No one ever plays anymore!:sadmh9:

So far that is also what I get as a response. I am thinking perhaps they are speedchat locked and they can't see my question since I am not a speedchat user. I do not know the rules for speedchat but I think that is how it rolls.
