Samantha Wildhound 04-12-2008 07:42 PM

massive lag fest,

and a true test of how greedy some of my friends are..ive had to delete several already.

The Beautiful Letdown 04-12-2008 08:11 PM

Yeahh I got off already because there was so many people and I couldn't level up anywhere :(

Samantha Wildhound 04-12-2008 08:16 PM

same here. lol. i really hope they dont continue this as a viable way to get more people playing.

Sarah 04-12-2008 08:37 PM

Well, at least tomorrow, it's just for paying customers....that should thin the croud

Chris 04-12-2008 09:54 PM

yea too much lag and every good spot is taken heck every spot bad or good is taken on like every server and ill be out all day tomorrow :( guess i will have to miss out on this

Ngendi 04-12-2008 10:17 PM

The double rep. helped!

Sailing - +2 levels
Voodoo Doll - +1 level
Staff - +1 level
Dagger - +1 level
Notoriety - +1 level

I wish I had more time though!

Chris 04-12-2008 10:25 PM

i hope next time they make it all day next time :(

Nathaniel Wolfson 04-12-2008 10:29 PM

Pulled a rep level, a pistol level, and three staff levels (in addition to the staff level I got just prior to it flipping to double rep)

*Droopy* You know what? I'm happy!

Kat Sheffield 04-12-2008 10:29 PM

I thought the window time itself was a little odd, not to mention short. Looking forward to tomorrow where I might actually be able to get a whole hour in. Wee! From what I've heard about today, the lag and competition really cut down on the fun factor.

Stormrunner 04-12-2008 10:49 PM

They did Double Rep at the same time on the Test server. Since my pirate there could use the rep more than my two on Open, I opted to play there.

A few more people than usual on Test -- but that ain't sayin' much! There were a couple of ships out on the Seas, and I only had to share the Catacombs with one other pirate.

I was surprised to see that whenever I completed one of the Black Pearl Story tasks, I also got double the Notoriety award. Very nice!

Chris 04-12-2008 11:16 PM

awesome so it was on test also

and did anyone get double rep for compleating quests

The Beautiful Letdown 04-12-2008 11:21 PM

I was using my grenade on a stump and originally I would get like 20-30 and with double rep I got anywhere from 30-40, big whoop lol

Sarah 04-13-2008 12:47 AM

I only got to play for about 30 minutes during the time slot today....Why does the family need to eat and need clean socks??? LOL! Oh well, got my staff up two levels. Not bad for a half and hour. Will try again tomorrow. Maybe I can convince the hubby and kids to go to the zoo....hmm

Moody Grimm 04-13-2008 12:56 AM

Well, I found a nice quiet spot and was getting 600 rep a go round for my doll.

I leveled 2 for my doll
1 for my cutlass
1 for my pistol
1 for sailing

I also had no lag issues and even found a quiet server.
Tomorrow I'm gonna try to max my doll out with the entire 3 hours.

Steely Jim 04-13-2008 01:14 AM

I got away with about 8k rep out of the deal; it broke down to ~5700 Sailing and ~2300 Cannon. The only downfall, for me, was I accidentally double-tapped and got an unintended 2nd point in Take Cover when I hit 20 Sailing.

I worked Galaacare and Guines (both listed as quiet when I logged in), mostly against the "Phantom menace" sailing The Hinterseas. I could see anywhere between 3-5 players sailing right of the coast of PDF and around Boiling Bay and Mariner's Reef. I had roughly 6 undead ships to myself at any given time; several times I had to "Y" fight 2 Phantoms at a time just out of self-preservation. I also got a few Ogres, Monarchs, Man O' Wars, Kingfishers, Marauders and Barracuda that sailed too close to me.

elizastorm 04-13-2008 02:44 AM

Wow

I am sorry to hear so many complaints!!!

I found a quiet server and leveled my sailing x3!

I hope they do this more often and will look forward to it in the future.

Angel 04-13-2008 07:53 AM

OMG I finally get to play for a few hrs...and so conviently the Lakers play at the same time...so I CAN LVL!!!!! Hehe :)

DrStinglock 04-13-2008 09:35 AM

can't wait for it to start again, does anyone have a countdown for it or anything?

Chernabog 04-13-2008 04:27 PM

I could only play for less than 15 minutes yesterday but almost went up a cannon level during that time! Seeing "+220" for Ogres and level 27 skeleton ships was awesome.

The seas in front of Padres were packed which turned out to be very profitable. On my way back to port, I fired broadsides in all directions. With seven other War Galleons out there balsting everything to pieces, everything I hit went down and I ended up with a dozen Royal Chests and made 1700 gold during two runs!

And I guess that is going to be the rule of the day. Since all the popular spots are going to be packed, I plan to attack everything I see since there will not be time to move from server to server and besides they will all be crammed with players like me. Basically I plan to fight like a pirate for three hours so my apologies in advance to those of you who consider this bad etiquette. Arrgh! :degen:

Agreed. Normally I'm very courtious with reguards to kill stealing, but today when Tormentia cave was packed it was every scallywag for themselves. I had one guy give me problems for blasting a mollusk with my staff for 20pts of damage a hit (he's lucky I didn't flaming skull!), while he did the same with his gun, but other than that everything was cool.

Sorry to those in the cave whos kills I hogged, but it will warm your heart to know that I leveled my staff and pistol in less than an hour. I'll make it up to you all when the reps not doubled.

Steely Jim 04-13-2008 10:24 PM

I had a lot more lag today than I did yesterday, on Galaira, Guyago, & Eustabia (all Quiet when I logged in); I also had significant lag even when I was far from crowded map areas. Furthermore, I crashed 3 separate times in about 50 minutes of total play time.

I ended up not playing beyond those rough 50 minutes. I got my 20 Sailing yesterday, so at this point I'm no longer in any particular hurry for other levels anyway. All in all, though, this weekend felt *a lot* like a peak server load test deep into some game's beta testing phase...which I suppose is about right, since the game's stability is about equal to a beta that is just about ready to go public.

Sarah 04-14-2008 12:18 AM

Got on for a whopping ten minutes today....

The servers kept booting me, and then low and behold, everyone here wanted dinner...Hey, family, There is the fridge, there is food in there, YOU figure it out!!!

If potco decides to do this again, I hope they make it a 12 hour thing....such a tease for only three hours, and a weird three hours at that.

Agreed! It actually wasn't as bad as I thought. I crewed up and sailed my War Galleon from Padres and quickly got a cannon level up. I then planned to sail directly to Kingshead in my War Sloop but there were too many tempting targets to shoot at. I eventually got there and the field was chaos. I couldn't tell who was doing what. Someone was behind the fence with grenades, someone was in the field with a staff and others were running around. I ran through the Vets and lured a few and blasted them with my staff but the lag was terrible.

I ran up the hill luring enemies together and hitting them with my staff. I ran though town and to the fort grouping Officers together and blasting them and leveled up my staff. I switched to my cutlass and attacked every Officer i could find. I saw a couple of Level 4 and 6 characters in there who were quickly killed. Normally I might have tried to save them, but I did not have time for that today.

I leveled up my Cutlass and moved up to the upper levels since the place was starting to become crowded. The lag up there was terrible but I was able to get 118 rep from mid-level Officers by throwing dirt and asps a lot. However, I kept getting nailed during the lag and used all my tonics. I was not going to spend any time Groggy today so I TP'd back to Padres to restock.

I ran to El Sudoron which was a mob scene. Every Stump was being bombarded with grenades. I wanted the Gypsies in the graveyard and that was actually open. I neutralized them with Hex Eaters and then flailed away with them with my dagger using only the basic attack and throwing dirt and got 210 rep each and quickly moved up a level.

With time running out, I ran to Padres beach and through all my Smoke Bombs at a level 28 Gypsy and got 220 rep for that just before time expired. Not bad for three hours. I moved to Level 32 somewhere at Kingshead as well.

I think this is going to make regular leveling extra dull. :/

Bilgepump 04-14-2008 01:37 PM

I didn't get on much Saturday, had errands to run, and I figured I could always play, but there are some things that can only be done on weekends.

But Sunday I finished before the event started, and the wife and I headed to Tormenta.

Got 2 levels on doll, 1 on pistol, cutlass, dagger, cannon, and got to level 34.

It wasn't all that bad. There was one group down below, and we were doing that dual Seabeard/Molusk spawn. There was one level 22 trying to leech off us, and plus her level 9 and 10 friends. Judging from the comments of the group down below, they were trying to leech off them, too. They eventually wandered too close to a Seabeard, and that took care of that.

My wife peeked in on Kingshead, and she said it was massively camped.

On the whole, I think that event was a great idea. They may have done it to see how tweaking the XP caps and/or rate would go. Or not. But I think they should do it again. Not every weekend, but maybe once a month.

Dr. Zeppers 04-14-2008 07:13 PM

I actually had fewer problems on saturday, than on sunday.
I find it humorous people say "didnt have time to heal" or "didnt have time to change servers", I changed servers a few times until I found a place I was comfortable with. Its a game, not the stock market.. hehe

I had no problems finding a spot to level up in Tormenta Cave, and then Padres Beach for awhile. Occasionally a few others would come by, but most left me and my critters alone. I was respectful and kept to a small area of the cave, lots of bad dudes in there.

Made an extra level on most weapons I targeted, but they took awhile since they are all over 20 at this point. Stepped up notoriety to 38 (and 1/2 already).

Noticed alot of people getting to Notoriety 40 on the leaderboards. Two days in a row, that it appears 25+ pirates achieved level 40 status... lots of people grindin away!!!
