Quick Guide to defeatins the Boss!!

Perfect crew would be a min of 4.....one to sail and 3 cannoneers (although 4 cannoneers is better). Crew up before entering, one will go to their Journal and click "Play Boss with Crew". The crew members will receive a "Recover treasure map" invite and all members going to the boss must accept of they get left behind. The game takes you, the video starts. (Esc to bypass the vid, but it will play though if one person dont hit ESC).

Once the vid is done, prepare to RUN!!!! There are apx 6 lvl 36 Officers waiting to kill you on the Pearls deck. Run, and use your doll with Lifedrain to self heal if needed, or staff. Just like boarding the Colossous. However, if someone dies, they cant come back to you...no one can TP to you once the Boss is initiated. After defeating the officers, the Capt takes the wheel, heads to the drawbridges.....cutscene to the light Frigates coming in. That boots the capt off the wheel and forces him to cannon. 2 cannoneers on each side to take them down fast and easy. Then once you sink the 4 LFs, the bridges start.

Capt runs back to the wheel, turn ship broadside to the bridges and the 3 cannoneers fire away at them. I used open fire and take cover to protect the ship. After the first set of bridges, let my skills recharge up, then do it again....broadside to the bridges, and repeat. I think its 4 sets of bridges. After the last set, you enter the harbor with Goliath (Cut to Goliath scene here). Once it goes back to your control, hit Full speed to get in front of him and away from his broadsides. Turn to broadside Goliath (this is where the Galleon sailors come in handy as the Pearl is like a Galleon). Hes wayyyyy easier to take down than Juggs. I went to get a screenshot but we had him down in less than 5 secs.

After completing the Boss, return to Jack who is now playin cards with Gibbs. The new sailing skill will unlock. I love the skill!!!

Heres a screenshot of the Pearl at start....and after a few drawbridges on my first Solo run (I sunk at the last bridge):

That concludes my Guide to the Boss. Hope it helps.

Well done Angel !!

Gabyta 03-27-2008 07:16 PM

It doesn't look easy :buds:

Angel 03-27-2008 08:33 PM

TY. All you gotta do is make sure you got a good crew of cannons. It helps alot!! I had a wonderful crew last night and wow, the Pearl was still green when she was returned to Jack!!

Chris 03-27-2008 08:52 PM

yea the crew is very helpful i heard explosive on the goliath is wonderful bc if multiple people use it it will sink fast with little damage

it looks like the BP is a sloop-galleon mix cause it seems fast with all the sails and it has 18 cargo slots lol.

The Pearl is actually a Schooner. Its the style ship, like the Galleon, Frigate and sloop. I hope they allow us to buy War Schooners!!!

Quick question, do you get normal rep for fighting the officers, using cannons, sailing, ect. in the boss battle, or are you just getting credit for completing the battle itself?

BTW, awsome guide Angel!

Angel 03-28-2008 10:25 PM

As long as you still get reps, you will get your normal reps for batteling everything. I got reps for killin officers but when it came to the sailing part, nada (Mastered)

Thanks again Angel! If the ankle biters ever fall asleep, I hope to battle tonight!

Angel 03-28-2008 11:43 PM

LOL, just let us know and we can help if you want!!

I think the more you have in a group the merrier and the safer :)

Excellent Job Angel! :)

Hey folks. Angel, I think I may have recently tried this quest with you...but my chosen crew didn't succeed. In fact, since a recent set of tweaks to the timing and volume of cannon fire from the bridge placements, I haven't met a single soul who's successfully completed the quest. The 4 light frigates go down in a flash as do the first 3 bridge placements. But then you have to get so close to the 2nd set to get a shot off that you take massive amounts of damage from incoming firey cannon balls. By the 3rd set, you're all done - BLOOP! You're sunk. I've tried about ten times with different crew configurations, light and heavy, monster players and noobs and it always ends the same - none of us have even seen the Goliath in action because we found ourselves at the bottom of a nasty little canal.

So that's my experience. Anyone else?

Its the same here. After the weapon updates, tehy have made it extremely difficult to pass. Ive known a select few that have beat it but I cant say much on how. I would suggest checking Eustance's post on how to do it now.

Got an update for you folks! I and a friend have now completed the Boss Battle!! The secret? A MONSTER character at the wheel. His name is Vash B and he is simply amazing at the wheel of the Pearl. He's somehow got it down exactly how, where and when to be and move to avoid incoming bridge fire that's that. While he's movin' and shakin', a full crew of 12 monster cannoneers are taking down the attack ships in less than 10 seconds and then the bridge placements closer to 5. BLAM BLAM BLAM, blast those placements!! We got to see the Goliath with 75% hull intact each time. We actually took a cruise around the harbor on the 2nd boss battle just to check out the place. LOL! Then took down the Goliath with great dispatch.

So the secret is mastery of steering the Pearl, which I have not. A really nice girl named Sarah Daggerpain can hook you up with a crew that simply cannot lose, including the now revered Vash. If you're really desperate to get the quest out of the way (you may not want to since you only get to do it once!), find those folks during your journies and BEG for their assistance. Or do the quest repeatedly until you too can get the ship to avoid the incoming cannon fire. This is a defense mastery quest for sure - a full crew of monster offense will get you nowhere but dead without the added advantage of defense mastery.

ENJOY!! :piratewheelgo2:
