An idea

I think it would be nice to have an option that makes you get ungroggy faster. Its really annoying when im afk and then come back to find im in jail and have to wait 20 mins or so before I'm able to fight again. What do you think?

bophus 03-03-2008 02:38 AM

i do enjoy some kind of penalty in mmo's. every other gam ei have played has wussed it down so much that nothing or next to nothing happens when you die.

In this game, there is no other penalty for dying, unless your ship sunk. i dont think there should be any way to get ungroggy faster.

if they made changes that everyone wanted all the time, the game would be a complete disaster. it happens all the time in mmo's, people complain, it gets nerfed, then more people complain and the next thing you know, everything is being handed to you on a platter and cupcakes are falling from the lemon scented sky.

not be be rude or anything, but maybe you should go AFK in a safer place.

Jack I 03-03-2008 02:40 AM

There is. ^^

In a press release that someone posted a while back, they said you get ungroggy faster by being active. They just noted that they didn't get that point across good while they were at it. ^^

Of course every game is going to have some kind of penalty, I wouldnt mind if it was just taking your gold like they do in poker.

Now I would mind that. I want my gold. I've been saving up for a war frig and spending some on the new customizations. I don't mind being groggy at all. With Dizzy at the helm while sailing, I pretty much stay groggy. I've pretty much learned to ignore being groggy.

The only reason I dont mind is I have plenty of gold...I actually want to get rid of it.

LOL, in that scare, let me know when u play poker. I need a new ship lol. Usually if I go AFK and end up in jail. I'm almost over the grog. Otherwise I go sailin since it dont matter if ur groggy or not, and it passes the time plus u get booty!!!

well i am taking donations for the HCGAWG (Help Chester Get A War Galleon)Cause.

I can understand that you want to get ungroggy fast, most of us do, but if you do it the "spend x amount of gold and you arent groggy anymore" way. the very next thing that will happen is the free players and the people who somehow cant seem to make any money will cry "no fair no fair" because they dont have the money. then disney will change it for them and the downward spiral begins.

Prior to this game i played EQ2 since launch. In the beginning of the game, when you died, you would leave a "shard" in the place you died. Until you retrieved that shard you would have reduced stats. it was a pain in the butt. the people who didnt have a lot of time to play or that were just plain bad at the game complained that it was too hard. some of them cried real tears, i heard them on our vent server. they changed it so you would just have to get to the area and you would automatically reabsorbe your shard. Simple enough? well, not for the ones who couldnt grasp the concept. then they made it so you could buy your shard back for 20 silver. seriously 20 silver. i could accidentally make 20 silver in 3 seconds. this still wasnt good enough for the complainers. so fast forward to today....when you die, you revive and thats it. minus a small revive sickness, that lasts for one minute. there is now no penalty.

sorry for the length, but i do enjoy a good story.

yea ^_^

and yes u need to "walk it off" the grogginess (fight)

Samantha Wildhound 03-03-2008 12:56 PM

I complain about it alot, but in the end, i dont really mind it, it wears off quicker when you fight, and doesnt have much of an impact on fighting if you stock up on a few tonics, to make up for the difference in HP. makes it more challenging to be penalized for basically being killed, so makes me try harder to stay alive even if it means standing in a corner till my health regain.

...or just go read the forums while sitting in jail..i do that sometimes. :)

POTCO has one of the tamest death penalties of any game I've played.

The harshest, had to have been in The Realm Online years ago.

When you died, you would DROP 25% of your inventory. Other players and even monsters could pick this up.

You would also lose 10% of your TOTAL exp gained so far across ALL level. It took 10,000 exp per level. At level 300, you would have 3,000,000 exp overall. 300000 exp. 30 levels.

I never died much in that game. hehe

I read in one interview with Potco dev he said that to get out of our groggy
state faster we should fight enemies. I've tried it with my friend when we
both in groggy. He waited while i fought enemies and my groggy disappeared
faster than him.

Man, I started out in MMORG's playing Everquest. If you died there, you return to your bind spot with NOTHING and you lost a good chunk of experience! You were naked basically. Your corpse with all your stuff that was on you was where you died. If you died in a bad spot, you were in huge trouble if you didn't have the right friends. If you failed to get to your corpse after a few days, the corpse rotted and all your stuff that was on it right with it.

Not saying this game should go to that extreme. But really that compared to momentary stat loss is nothing. I do like it I can explore regions without much fear. In Everquest, I didn't dare go anywhere "just to explore" if I didn't know exactly what I was getting into.

I found its better to just play as normal when groggy. Ease off the tougher creatures for a bit. The grogginess clears faster when you're doing something than just sitting there.

bophus 03-03-2008 07:05 PM

i can remember once in EQ2 i was running aounr an area that i shouldnt have been in. i fell off a bridge onto a rock hundreds of meters below me. the rock was surrounded by lava and there was no way top get there other than falling off the bridge, trying to click on the shard and hit the lava (if you died in lava you wouldnt leave a shard). i spent all day doing it, lost a ton of xp, finally i had to contact the devs and ask them to retrieve it for me as i couldnt get it by myself. it was fun and scary at the same time.

i do like the fact that if i am about to die or getting close to death, my heart starts pumping faster and paster because i know when i die, it is going to be a huge hastle to return to what i was previously doing right away. usually i just get up from my chair in disgust, lol, and wait in jail.

Maximvs 03-03-2008 07:56 PM

20 minutes... I've never been Groggy for more than 7 or so (and that is just standing there...) - even so there is so much to do I never notice the grog (off geting money, sinking ships whcih grog plays no part) - You have to have a 'peanlty' for messing up and I think it has a good balence right where it is - not TOO long but at the same time just long enough to remind you "hey dummy, take a tonic next time" or "hey dummy, don't fight L38 Molusks with an L13 Pirate and no Hex" LOL

lol alot of my "friends" could sure use that advice as well. but it sure is funny watching it..if it wasnt so aggravating that i see that lil message coming up right after they get outta jail "so n so is coming to visit you" to repeat the vicious cycle...

Yikes! Couldn't you find a necromancer? Not sure if they can summon corpse in EQ2 or not. Though I remember necromancers were constantly being asked for this job. In return, no one wanted to group with them hehe.

Yeah, I agree, when you're groggy thats a good time to sink some ships.

I agree there should be some sort of punishment for going to jail but the crogginess lasts too long:sad8:
