Pirates Of the Burning Sea... another pirate MMORPG
http://www.burningsea.com/
It appears that POTCO may have some competition. This game is already accepting beta testers and scheduled to open around June 2007. |
Intresting. I'd join if it was Disney owned. Haha ;).
What's the link to the Disney Pirates game, Smoop? |
The link to the official Disney Pirates Online can be found in the upper right hand corner of your screen. If you can't find it, then just type www.piratesonline.com :)

I don't believe Disney will have too much competition.
Number 1: Disney is a lot bigger then this company. Number 2: POTCO has better graphics. Many gamers play games for the graphics. (I personally don't care about graphics. if the game is fun, then I play it) Number 3: POTCO is based off of a movie that many Disney fans and none Disney fans enjoy. Number 4: It's also based off of a very famous Disneyland ride. Number 5: There will be POTCO players that just play the game because Jack Sparrow is in it. A very famous and very liked character can get you more players if you add that character to your game. I don't think Pirates of the Burning Sea will get in the way of Disney very much. Personal opinion. |
Thats much weeks before it will be open.. but i still think its worth waiting
Edit: but i think this game will be cooler |
Well, until I saw this thread, I have never heard of Burning Sea. I heard about pirates from an ad in a magazine. For the reasons Ducky_Wucky posted, Disney will prevail much much higher.

Hmm, interesting. They are going to have competition to get users since the Disney game, I predict, is going to be very popular.

Has that game really been out that long? Wow, I'm glad I didn't waste my time trying to get into that game.
I would personally pick POTCO over that game, not just because I like the movie. Just because it seems a lot more fun. And this game just seems like some sort of "Trying to be as big as other online games". I didn't even hear about this game until this thread. |

But yeah, I think POTC:O will surpass all of those pirate-wannabe games. :p |
I have studied both these games indepth. Beta testing POTCO and applied for beta and forum member of PotBS.
I think the appeal for each is going to be very different.. While POTCO is going to appeal to the Disney fan and casual MMO player. It is simply a pirate game without all the complex structure of the heavy-hitting MMORPG. It will appeal to people who want to play a game with their kids. Don't get me wrong, I like POTCO (if they ever get the bugs out), but it is a much simplier game than PotBS. PotBS is going to appeal more to the hard-core MMO player. This game is complex in it's structure. You can choose to be a pirate, navy, privateer, merchant. It has several nations to play in, with an economic infostructure of merchants and banking. Your ships will be customizable from sails to cannons. From what I can tell the chat system will also be more sophisticated. In PotBS your player will be able to earn peg legs, eye patches, hooks and etc.. It seem that at some point you will also be able to have parrots, monkeys and such. This game will be more of a realistic pirate world. People who are really into the MMO's are watching this game intently so don't sell it short. |
If you have a little more than a GB to spare... This game http://www.voyagecenturyonline.com/index.php has way better graphics, is a lot of reading, but it's free (just takes 1/2 a day to download...) I might try and put it on a DVD (now that I can), and see if that will work.
|
I like how PotBS has way more ships.
Can you also pick what color your ships are too? That would be awesome for PotCO, since ships called the Green Dragon or something could actually be green. |

I completely disagree :jacksparrowvswillzu Pirates of the Burning Sea is open already, and PotCO is currently closed to all, even beta testers. Beta testers who were hooked on PotCO, like myself, will be looking for another Pirate MMORPG. Once beta testers get hooked on Pirates of the Burning Sea, when PotCO opens up again they won't want to switch back. I will switch back, but most won't. |
