What did you play before POTC?

Yes im doing a survey on what people played before they starting playing POTC, i wana see where a majority of our "good ole" community sits.

Wither it be your coming from the MMORPG genre exsample, World of Warcraft,Everyquest etc...

Or it would be your coming from the disney games exsample : Virtual Magic Kingdom, Toontown online etc.....

BE HONEST!! Remember it's a survey.

Silver Beard 02-11-2008 07:20 PM

I played Club Penguin...they have pirates in the game you know!:vlaugh:

Tokrok 02-11-2008 07:24 PM

Caleb Killagin 02-11-2008 07:50 PM

I played many games. This poll should have been multiple choice..

Jeflafla 02-11-2008 08:15 PM

text based MUD

Jade Ironrage 02-11-2008 09:09 PM

I agree, there should be more options, cuz my option would be nothing. This is the first online game that I have played.

Chris 02-11-2008 09:46 PM

i played VMK and thats about it

Dukk19 02-11-2008 10:12 PM

Asheron's Call - 2 years
Star Wars Galaxies - 4 years

dabbled in some lesser MMO's like Runescape, Puzzle Pirates, 2 Moons and 9 Dragons (and now PotCO).

Waiting for Star Trek Online...

Davy 02-12-2008 12:42 AM

LOTRO is Lord Of The Rings Online. Sort of a WoW knockoff. Shame though, because if WoW had never come out, we'd all think LOTRO is fantastic.

Anyway I played VMK and a little TTO

I was playing vmk since summer 05, haven't been on since Oct 31st. Just go on once in a while so my account doesn't get deleted. Don't wanna waste all that rare :p

Vandelay 02-13-2008 02:27 AM

Lots of MMORPGs: Toontown, City Of Heroes, a little WoW, a little LOTRO, and a golf MMO called Shot Online.

JackoBauer 02-13-2008 10:36 AM

Hm i have played very much mmos. but only 2 for pirates that i have played very long:
Toontown - in 3 Months im playing TT for 3 Years
World of Warcraft - since the release but with playing stops ^^.
and now pirates - since the first beta

i love the disney games because there have his own charm and are not for hardcore player. you can log on have 1hour-5hour fun with your friends by sinking ships, battle cogs, level your gags/weapons etc.

but i think that pirates is a grindgame in the endgame. it is very boring every day to do the same... and im not playing everyday so i dont have enough gold to buy new cool stuff or ships...
but it is very fun to play the disney games :). but in toontown the devs can update new things very faster... in 2006 march comes the lawbot hq out... and from march 2006 until the end of 2007 was nothing... ok, the flowers and new trolley games... but this is not a very new update. i wish they make new updates every 3-6 months and not so "little" things. :).

Maetrix 02-17-2008 03:32 PM

Well, I still play them but, UO and WOW. I finally stopped playing EQ, however. OH! And, dare I say it, Runescape!

tempestart 02-18-2008 12:37 PM

played eve online for a long while with army buds of mine. it was one of those mmorpgs that spread throughout our community. still have star wars galaxies but i don't play as much as i used to. also played ragnarok on the lightside server for awhile. potc has literally "eaten my soul" though lol

Bess 02-18-2008 01:00 PM

I never played any on line game before. The fact that you had to buy a game and then pay to play was not something I could get into. I started out on Pirates as a free member - that lasted 48 hours - I was so hooked. Upgraded and paid for the year sub. I so love this game. It is easy enough for me to keep up with but to me it has enough new things going on to keep it interesting.

I tried to get my son on it but he is bored with it. He plays WOW and City of Heros and City of Villans and doesn't think Pirates has enough. From what I've seen of the others they are too complicated for my old brain to handle.

My Pirate 02-23-2008 12:27 PM

Toontown,
I've been playing that game for like, 2 years now. =D

soccergals 02-25-2008 02:52 AM

I used to play Toontown (a 3-year obsession!), but Pirates Online has overcome that. ^_^

I also play VMK (still do :)).

Madevaine 02-25-2008 07:22 AM

I played both options

Fillyteen 02-26-2008 02:54 AM

I played Sims and some other games, but Sims 2 has become borring for me so Pirates is not

Chris 02-26-2008 03:01 AM

hmm i played runescape also but almost went blind bc the stupid screen is tiny but what makes it even worse is that the chat and bookbag take up half o the tiny screen so i end up playing on a 3 X 3 screen while on a 17" HD laptop -_- plus the graphics are terrible and the designers umm forgot to put in a sky (if u look its just a black hole)

Eloricth 02-26-2008 01:30 PM

Been doing online gaming for over a decade now. :)

Started playing Gemstone III back in 96.
Moved on to The Realm Online in 98 and played that until 2004.
Beta tested Everquest and played until release. Never played again after that. :)
In late 04' I tried Final Fantasy XI
Played WoW from late 05 to early 07.
Played Eve Online from early 07 to present.
...and now I've found my way here. :)

Cool. How did you like Eve Online? I've been thinking about trying that one.

EsmereldaTrueshot 02-26-2008 02:04 PM

I've played toontown for over a year, and then found pirates... I love the charm of the toons, besides it is safe for my kids to hop on anytime. I enjoy pirates because for all the controls (big brother Disney anyone?) it is more adult than toontown. I seem to be levelling fairly quickly, but need to work on my weapons most definitely... I absolutely enjoy these more social games vs. standard "games" for say wii or PC.

Arrrrrrgh!:buds:

It's an awesome game. Definitely for the older crowd that likes to think and strategize more than just run and gun. The universe is MASSIVE. You don't walk around as a person (not yet at least), but you fly spaceships.

Also, everything you know about conventional leveling mechanics you can take and throw out the window. You level/gain skills in real-time. In other words, you train a skill, and that skill can take hours, to days, to weeks to learn. The good news is that even when you're not signed in to the game, the skills continue to train. So you can set a long one, go to work, and then come back. You can also pause a skill that's in training to train another skill, and you will still retain all of the time spent training the first skill.

The game itself has waaaaay too many features/mechanics to explain in here, but the other really cool thing is that when you start raking in the dough (in-game) you can pay for your game membership with the money from in-game. Meaning you no longer have to pay the $15/month fee.

Overall, it's a really fun game -- if you have the patience for it.

POTCO is great, to me at least, because of it's simplicity. Simple things like not having to worry about an inventory, or an exponential amount of armor/weapon upgrades, means that you can spend more time playing and less time running to the shopkeep.

Starfury 02-26-2008 03:18 PM

For Multi: Toontown off and on. Kids played but got bored. I got bored with it too.

Other games: Counterstrike, Battlefield 2/BF 2142, Railroad Tycoon II, Total Annihilation, Diablo II

Currently I'm playing Pirates for computer games; I'm mostly a board/wargamer and prefer sitting at a table with friends instead of playing on the computer.

Eloricth 02-26-2008 03:36 PM

Pen & Paper games are awesome. :) Many a fun weekend I have had playing D&D & Battletech. Painting miniatures is a pastime now, unfortunately. :(

GothixGrafx 02-26-2008 04:45 PM

I'm probably the minority but I never played any MMPOG before POTC.

KATIE4149 02-26-2008 07:22 PM

Haha its funny to see people's comments about Runescape! I used to play in back in junior high, I think I got up to level 40's and quit, it got seriously boring. Other than that I've never really played an online game although I have pondered getting the Sims online. Pirates is perfect for me, I'm completely addicted.

Kate104 03-27-2008 03:56 AM

there wasn't an option on there for me. i didn't play any online games before POTC.

Peter Stormsmythe 03-27-2008 05:04 AM

Club Penguin, Rakion, Perfect World, RF, Hellz yeah i play CP.

Twisted 03-27-2008 07:24 AM

I played Shot Online. Only other MMO I have played.

Moody Grimm 03-28-2008 07:49 AM

Ummmm Adventurequest..... *puts on flameshield* lol.

Gabyta 03-28-2008 08:49 AM

VMK :) that's my first love ;)

dangerousden 03-29-2008 11:28 AM

I used to play another pirates game, based in Germany, called Seafight. I got right to the top, with a fully armed ship and then the game got a bit boring. I have even brought a few of my friends from www.Seafight.com over to PoTC with me.

Seafight is free to play, flash based, and really frustrating lol.

Chris 03-29-2008 12:38 PM

wow most of these ive never even heard of the ones i know are VMK POTCO Habbo Hotel (ick) Coke Music (boring) WoW (heard of it never played) Runescape (played for about a week then quit .-.) Clubpenguin (heard of it never played) Webkinz (heard of it from sister but never cared for it)

League 04-20-2008 05:24 AM

Ha, I played Club Penguin for a few minutes every day, just maintaining the latest duds that a freebie member could get! Other than that, none of the above would qualify me.

Greywolf1063 04-20-2008 12:51 PM

Secondlife, There.com, The Sims Online...

Dr. Zeppers 05-06-2008 06:56 PM

I must vote OTHER, as the two provided options only cover a small slice of online gaming.
I guess im just an old fart... been playing online games before the internet even existed.. lol.

I was previously an online shooter enthusiast, having played the entire Quake series at one time or another online, Counterstrike, etc.
I also have done well in the online racing community.

Arrrr I be a pirate now though.. ;) POTCO being my first MMORG style game.

Your post describes me as well. I played the entire Quake series and even got into competitive CTF in Quake3. Used to be in Burial Grounds Clan - bgc|Rackat -, then in Templar Knights Realm Clan - TKR|Rackat. Me and my buddies had our configs so tweaked the game looked ugly as all get out, but we flew threw the maps carrying that darned flag. I could rail the ....legs..... off a gnat from accross the map and lay a rocket on your nose before you saw me round the corner.

POTCO is the first MMORG for me. It's fun, but I miss strafing through a large map being chased by 4-5 other players trying to keep me from getting their flag back to our base.

Soul Patch The Fiesty 05-06-2008 08:17 PM

Everquest, tried SWG for like 3 months, couldn't get into it. Everquest it has been for . . . well 5 years now. POTCO has been like an "EQ patch" and is weening me off of it. Truth be told, when I was in the Marines, I had a lot more free time in the evenings to play, I became the #1 berserker on my server for like a month, then I got out of the military, got passed in stats, couldn't catch back up, lost my zeal for the game after getting to be the best.

A question to you shot online guys - do you think that would be an alternative for my expensive Golden Tee habit?

Lucy 05-06-2008 09:27 PM

its been years but Ultima online

SWG and I'm |-this close-| to going back to it.

FortuneRed 05-07-2008 12:17 AM

The Sims :P

Edit: Oh yeah. And puzzle pirates.

Ameila 05-07-2008 12:44 AM

VMK.
And a few non-disney sites. [uncomfy chuckle]

NaviMap 05-14-2008 07:43 AM

I came from the "very soon to be defunct" VMK. I actually didn't really know what to expect from POTCO when I started playing, but it exceeded my expectations

DarkScarlett 05-14-2008 08:55 AM

my option is not poll answer choice.....lol i used to play house...POTCO has sucked me in the black hole...............can anyone direct me to the nearest wormhole to REALITY, PLZ

Scorpia 05-16-2008 01:46 AM

I played Toontown before this, for a long time and before that I played The Sims Online, for a long time too. (I guess I'm loyal that way.) :piratetongueor4:

Lucrecia Merlose 05-16-2008 03:57 AM

Ultima Online <---Umm...yea...EA ruined it even more...
EverQuest<---Most fond memories
EverQuest Online Adventures <---Was a surprise. Ugly graphics but FUN for PS2 console online game!
Planetside <---Would have been more fun if there was no lag making this twitch based game unplayable for me
Dark Age of Camelot <---Siege warfare was a blast..ugly character models...can't control mounts.
Asheron's Call <---Didn't last too long.
Asheron's Call II <---100% player driven economy made it interesting but it was closed down last I heard
Shadowbane <---Confusing character creation and development but destroying entire cities made it worthwhile
Lineage II <---Pretty but full of gold farmers and rude people. Game stability was poor.
Guild Wars <---Only limited addictive game play but stunning graphics
Final Fantasy XI<---Biggest disappointment due to personal FF loyalty
City of Heroes/Villains <---Character creation was the funnest part
EvE Online <---Felt like I was logging into work
Flyff <---Free (mostly) Asian grindfest but cute
Mabinogi <---Free (mostly) Asian grindfest but cute
World of Warcraft <---Fun but horrible community and auction house charges ruined it for me
Anarchy Online <--still active and devoted

Age of Conan <---WTB beta plz! Waiting not so patiently for the release
Earth & Beyond <---Wish I played this...hope it comes back soon!

I'm sure I missed a few but it's getting late.

Don't be a loser geek like me, kids!

They nailed it pretty well there...

If you like the teamwork of sailing ships with your crew you will miss it in EvE. One person to each ship. I for one love the participation of sinking the Navy together on the same ship.

I however I still feel like EvE Online was more work than play. Perhaps because I started out as a devoted miner. Typically read books at my desk as my ship hauled in the ores.

Snorri 05-16-2008 06:29 AM

My wife, Lidda bit and I played Daoc for atime but that is it

Jason Sharkskull 05-18-2008 07:34 AM

This is the first online game that I have played. Are there better one's than this?

Gorams 05-18-2008 12:13 PM

I Play in THERE and before it closed, recently, :shifty: I played Myst Online- Uru Live

jdohner117 05-21-2008 12:02 AM

Played EQ back in the day then came back from over seas and started up with EQ2. Not the same, game-play is lacking as is the role play, just seems like the same 'ol same 'ol MMO to me. I did a trial run of WOW, looked the same as EQ minus the graphics.

I like the game-play in POTC, they have rounded it out pretty well to where you are able to solo effectivly (I'm still in my teens so not sure about "higher end") as well as get your friends togeather and play. And it's pretty cheep LOL.

Aliese 05-21-2008 12:09 AM

I'd never played a MMO before Pirates, though I did see my brother play a LOT of WoW. He kept trying to get me to play, but it just didn't appeal to me. It seemed like the players there were crazy aggressive, and I just don't take things that seriously. :laughks2:

Ryu_Kenshin 05-21-2008 01:13 AM

I don't know why, but for spme reeason when I saw LORTO, I thought of Lord of the Rings Online, soungs good, can I get a game link? I played runescape, got bored, saw this games commersial, maxxed out first night and begged mom for unlimited.

kingripday 05-24-2008 03:35 PM

I played runescape

Jack Darkfish1 05-24-2008 06:25 PM

i played runescape,eq1,eq2,WoW,dark swords, silkroad and many other online games

yuanti 06-01-2008 02:13 PM

I played IgorMUD, Caradon (both of which were text based games (MUDs to be exact) starting in 1993. Many years later I started Asheron's Call and played for a few years then stayed away from online roleplaying games til this year where my son and I started playing POTC online.

IgorMUD is still going these days too.

Kat Stormhawk 06-01-2008 03:49 PM

Nuttin' honey! I was a MMORPG virgin before Pirates.

sumprimus 06-05-2008 11:23 PM

I played Puzzle Pirates.

But then again, I loved Kingdom Hearts, so I suppose it's a tie of sorts...

rade775 06-06-2008 12:07 AM

Neopets

(too short)

piratefan71495 06-06-2008 12:13 AM

I have played tons of games. particularly my wii

Mystdee 06-06-2008 05:28 AM

I played Myst Online - Uru live It was awesome, but apparently not making enough profit . . . . . . It was shut down a few months ago :sadmh9:

I also played and still do, On There.com

Geoffrey Redskull 06-06-2008 06:49 AM

I never played a MMORPG before Pirates.

I still play Call of Duty 4 on PS3 and used to play America's Army and Ghost Recon on PC. So I was more of the FPS type of player previously, but have just kind of fell in love with this Pirates game.

Scottish 06-06-2008 02:28 PM

Neither. This was my first jump into online gameplay.

Being a serious pirates fan, there was no way i would let a game come out and not play it. It has been a blast too.

XxJennaxX 06-06-2008 09:41 PM

I played Toontown, but I'm taking a break from it now. Its gotten boring, and POTCO is more fun. One thing I love is how you don't need to put in those annoying sf codes in order to talk to people. (:

HalfFro126 06-18-2008 07:01 AM

I did play a few MMO's, no Disney games whatsoever. I wasn't actually playing a certain game in the few weeks before I started Pirates.

And Silver Beard, I belive that LOTRO means "Lord of the Rings Online".

Sven Niscadae 06-18-2008 11:26 AM

I played MUDs back in the 90's, EverQuest for a few years, PlanetSide for a while, SilkRoad Online, and then ToonTown for a few years. Still anxiously waiting for the LEGO MMO.

Joseph 07-18-2008 05:52 PM

I played VMK some

Poison elf 07-18-2008 09:57 PM

Here is a few I have been on.
Net trek
Merdian59
Horizons
Underlight
UO
Lotro
AC
wow, shortly

And the worse thing is, most these have max characters.

Sarah Darkspinner 07-19-2008 11:28 PM

Started with Dragonrealms and Alliance of Hero's, played those for five years approximately. Then switched to Haelrahv and Eaxia for another three years. All text based games, this is my first time with an online graphic game. Tried EQ couldn't stand it but POTC is fun for now. I always am playing more than one game, I get too bored with just one. I'm still playing DragonFable also right now, along with some time management games in BigFish Games.

Jade Macbones 07-20-2008 12:03 PM

Use to play TT

Tuefenhandel 07-21-2008 08:48 PM

Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth - BFME II, and BFME II ROTWK

potcofan74 07-29-2008 04:38 AM

I played club penguin and toontown and paid for both before starting Potco:laughks2: when my toontown membership expired along with my club penguin i discovered potco and had a blast playing!!

Houdini 07-31-2008 09:58 PM

I played Asheron's call for 2 years best game ever made although Pirates is pretty good too. They used to charage $10 a month then it was $20 if you wanted to play on the expantion towns. I was in Alberon Mindeater lol best guild on Darktide a world where you were player killer all the time it was kill or be killed!

SonnyDay 08-01-2008 04:09 AM

VMK, if you knew Palimino, KaleidescopeEyes, or RadicalRetro you knew me :) lol

Maximvs 08-01-2008 04:35 AM

first it was FPS with Duke Nukem 3D Baby YEA!, over 10 years of RPG (Command / Conquer, C&C Red Alert, The Age Of Empire Series), then I switched to Sim(ulation) in Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 and 3D - made lots of vids on those ones.

Then just as I was 'drifting' for a game... as a Disney traveller they sent me this invite to play PotCO back in November 2007... and now you know where I am :D

Bonnylass64 08-13-2008 02:44 AM

I still play Burnout Revenge, Burnout Paradise, Test Drive Unlimited, Pirates Of Thee Caribbean At Worlds End, etc. And I still hold down a full time job. lol :piratetongueor4:
