My computer is dead!

I woke up this morning, got up and came to turn on my computer to get on POF and all the guild sites I'm on. So I click the little "On" button, and it takes me to the select a user page and.... DEAD. Yeah, so my computer just died this morning. Its sitting right next to me in a laptop coma. Someone in my family had the same issue, and their laptop didn't survive, so its looking like I'm gonna be ditching my old poop of a laptop and getting a new one. RIP old dirty green slow laptop. Good news and bad news.

Good news: I can get a new computer! About time. You've all heard me whining about how my computer stinks and how it can't do anything and how I can't download good MMO's and the like. Well, I'm looking into getting a really nice Alienware laptop (They run amazingly well but an 11-incher can weigh 7 pounds!). So hopefully I'll be able to play without ANY lag or slowness... Abassa Smasho can be a walk in the park :P W00T!

Bad news: I have no idea when I'll be able to order the laptop or when I'll actually receive it. It could take a while, so don't expect me to be on too much. I can easily get on POF from some phones in my house every once in a while or just use someone's computer, but getting on POTCO may be a bit tough. It is downloaded with the launcher on all computers, so I should be able to get on every once in a while, but it shouldn't be more than once or twice a day, and not for too long.

Anyway, don't expect to see me as much as before until I get my new laptop, so I suppose just take care of yourselves for a while, and consider the word of the Seniors and Co-GM's the word of the guildmaster until I'm back. See you all (hopefully) soon!

HammyTheSquirrel 07-10-2011 05:40 PM

Aww..... hope you can get back soon! :( At least you can get onto the forums. ;)

Meg McBones 07-10-2011 05:41 PM

So sorry for your computer! RIP.
Never heard about Alienware but I think it might be good computers! :P
Hope you will receive it soon! :D

WitchdoctorDan 07-10-2011 05:48 PM

Well, Lag isn't just because of a slow computer. Remember my Alienware? Yeah. Can't walk through Abassa. Why? Bad Internet. SO, if you have bad Internet, then you will most likely still have lag. Not as bad though. :D Anywho, hurry up and order it! >:O Alienware took two weeks to get my computer to me, so the sooner the better. However, you might have better luck, since mine is a 30lb desktop. Mine is much older, but to tell you something about Alienware's performance, it can still hold up to the modern day computers. I've actually gotten PMs back in my CSS days about how many Ghz my comp was, that theirs was 3.0. I told them "2.6". They laughed at me, but I had no lag. :P

Anywho, we hope for you to get back soon!

Mr. Skiperdoo 07-10-2011 06:35 PM

My condolences go out to your laptop, I know what it's like to have a close processor shut off. Alas, in my lifetime I've probably destroyed about 7 computers trying to overwork them, in fact the one I'm using right now is years old and possibly approaching the end of it's life.

The truth is, computers hate me. They really do. Whether it's the latest AI that I just created or a Windows 95 endurance test, they truly, honestly hate me. I'm afraid they think I'm the master drive and they're the slave drive, but in truth, none of us would be complete without the other. I've tried talking to my computer about resolving some of these issues, but its variety system has yet to reach a point in which it can fully cooperate with me. And for some reason, I'm afraid this is my fault. I mean if you try telling someone that Skippy treats computers well, and they'll most likely believe you. But it's different, the computers don't understand what I do, what I've done for them. And that... that means everything.

So what do I do? I destroy them. That's right, complete obliteration. No computer that believes it can stand up to me deserves to have it's processor in it's place, disks to contemplate, or programs to benefit. Your computer may feel the same way towards you, and if you want my advice, threaten it until it bows to your every whim.

~Skippy

Alienware makes a nice unit with high performance components. Before you go buying that new unit (which you want one way or another...lol). Make sure the current laptop doesn't have something simple causing the current failure (dead power supply, memory chip bad or needs re-seated, over heating due to clogged cpu exhaust port). If it's the motherboard....as you probably know, it's not worth fixing anymore. Replacement units have dropped in price dramatically over the past few years. Good luck.

Pretty sure its the motherboard. As I may have said, someone in my family had the same problem and it turned out to be a motherboard issue. My computer won't be coming back. RIP.

When I come back to full activity I will ban you so hard that your computer will implode, my friend. ^^

Anyway, I was just out looking at some laptops today. The place I went to didn't really have any good gaming laptops (other than this one gargantuan Asus... might as well shove a desktop into my laptop bag.), but I did look at a nice Samsung that had some good stuff. I think it was a Quad-Core, a good i5 processor, 6 GB memory (so it would be great for running lots of things at once), and nice graphics. I'm gonna look at some other ones (especially some real gaming laptops) before I make my decision... but I'd say its gonna be a good two weeks AT LEAST before I actually get my laptop in my possession. Anyway, I'll try my best to be active. Wish me luck!

Captain Will Cannonfury 07-11-2011 12:57 AM

I'm really sorry about your computer Davy. It stinks that I joined the Sorcerors yesterday and now I don't get to see you for a while :( I hope to see you soon buddy, good luck with the new computer.

Dog Gunmorgan 07-11-2011 01:09 AM

sorry to hear about the laptop Davy the very same thing (death of computer) is what cause my year and a half absence from the game ( I lost ) before I joined the Sorcerors lets hope that doesn't happen to you, savvy? anyway don't worry about the guild the council of shadow will take care of it while you're unable to play. we won't let anything crazy(er than normal) happen!

hope to see you back very soon mate!

your loyal puppy,
Dog.

Captain Sharktooth 07-11-2011 09:52 AM

0_o That's not good.... I hope my computer stays nice and healthy... - computer crashes -

In all seriousness, I wish you good luck with your laptop hunting, and see ya soon!

Tiberius Fireskull 07-11-2011 04:20 PM

So here's the deal with my laptop guys... it seems to have let me on again, not crashing. I haven't tried POTCO, so I have yet to see what that'll be like. It will likely work but may lag a bit, and I think my computer is on the last few weeks of life. I'm still shopping for a new laptop, as I know this guy's almost dead, but I suppose I'll be active again. Pretty weird. Like my computer had a heart attack but survived, only scarred... :P

:psmiley27: Poor laptop... :laughks2: At least yer back,... (somewhat) mate! :buds:

Tiberius Fireskull 07-13-2011 08:29 PM

My computer died AGAIN. Posting from another computer, obviously. I'm going to give it a few hours before I try to reboot it, and hopefully it can work. Good news is that I'm sort of deciding between two laptops now. Both are just about equally powerful. One is a Dell XPS, the other is an Alienware M14x. They really are both about the same... except I like the look of the Alienware better (iz purteh). I was wondering if you guys had any recommendations between the two? Again, both are pretty similar in power. The only significant difference was that the XPS had 8 GB memory vs. the Alienware with 4 GB. Not sure how much my computer has/had, but I'd say no more than 2 GB on it. Either way, I probably won't end up using that much memory for what I'll play. Not like I'll run three games at once, browse the Internet, and be having xfire and all that up at the same time. :P

Suggestions?

akamystic 07-13-2011 08:57 PM

Alienware makes a pretty nice unit for the price. I've also had good luck with the XPS series from Dell. Do some Google searches on the models you are interested in for current reviews. Either way you go just be sure to have a rocking video card....CPU and plenty of RAM for POTC.

Catherine Ironcutter 07-13-2011 09:08 PM

Yeah. Get a Mac. I've used Macs for the past 6 years, and my 21-inch desktop runs Abassa Smasho faster than anyone else there. Hehehehe. If you get a Mac, I'll give you my special POTCO POF guilds desktop for it! Bribery is just good business

I personally don't like PC's, they crash and get viruses too quickly. Besides, the Macbook Airs are so light, it's unreal :piratewheelgo2:

WitchdoctorDan 07-13-2011 09:28 PM

I use an Nvidia 9500 GE as my video card. Yeah, they are an important part of a gaming rig. However, they are pretty inexpensive.

Also, some of the Alienware computers are overpriced. -points to desktop models- You could build one of the same specs for less. But you won't get the LEDs, the appearance, or the pedigree.

The XPS was an experiment by Dell to foray into gaming technology. It worked pretty well, so they created Alienware. So the Alienware is probably newer. PM me the specs of both, Tub.

Swash 07-13-2011 09:32 PM

Catherine's right about the Macs. When I got my first Mac, I didn't go back. If your looking for a less expensive more powerful rig, you might want to consider building it yourself. You can get a computer that can run circles around Alienware for half the price if you build it yourself!

akamystic 07-13-2011 09:39 PM

Mac is an option....at a higher price. I believe when it comes to Operating Systems it's all a matter of preference.

I run Windows 7 (most stable Microsoft OS thus far), Linux on another PC....and use the iPad 2 (great tablet). The only reason Windows PC's get a bad reputation for viruses is due to the fact that most businesses and end users own them over a Mac (various reasons).

PC's own the larger percentage of the market.....by far. Once more businesses and end users implement Macs the hackers will have more reasons to attack that OS....and will succeed. No OS is foolproof.....and never will be.

Not trying to start a Mac vs PC war....just stating facts. I like the Mac Pro/Mac Book.....and have owned a few Macs over the years. I happen to prefer the PC. I say buy what suits your wants/needs.

Do the research.......I even suggest visiting an Apple store if you have one nearby. That is how I ended up going with the iPad over the Xoom. Weigh all options......the fate of the Caribbean is in your hands!

God Speed.......

Build it yourself is a very cost effective way to get exactly what you want.....(my main PC is a custom built)....newegg.com has some great prices on components.

WitchdoctorDan 07-13-2011 09:57 PM

Mac is the faster OS for sure, but in a gaming rig it is sometimes difficult to get everything to work on Macs. Many of the franchise games are produced solely on Windows. Also, most computers (like Dell and Alienware) are shipped with Windows.

The Alienware I am using now was an old run down 2005 model that some guy sold me for a hun. I updated it a bit, but it is a work in progress. I considered Mac OS on it, and may yet install it.

Tiberius Fireskull 07-14-2011 04:32 AM

No Macs. None at all. I dislike Macs for my own reasons, partially because I'm more used to PC's. End of story.

Thanks for all the suggestions mates. I'll definitely look into it. Dan, I'll PM you the specs soon. I'm leaning towards the Alienware a bit though, mainly because the two computers are so similar, for such a similar price... I just cannot resist the physical appearance of the Alien (if you haven't seen one, these are REALLY nice looking machines). We'll see. I don't plan to do crazy intense gaming, so I don't think I'll need the 8 GB on the XPS... I'm not sure. I'll have to think about it more.

In other news, I think my computer is gone for good. Its in a coma and probably won't wake up. RIP 3-year-old-green-inspiron-that-runs-VISTA(don't go there... I know that fails...).

CLEAR!

*tries to shock computer back to life*

Nope. She's gone. RIP.

Catherine Ironcutter 07-14-2011 04:44 AM

Alrighty then, just buy an awesome computer, put Pirates stickers on it, and give it good anti-virus software xP

Mr. Awesome 07-14-2011 07:40 AM

My Gateway FX is the single most awesome PC to have been created by foolish mortals.

This thing can take Abassa/Foul Smash and still not lag at all.

Plus it looks amazing!

Tiberius Fireskull 07-23-2011 06:56 PM

Good news everyone! I'm going to be ordering my Alienware 14x later today! I've decided to go with that computer. Should suit my needs perfectly, and more! But there is just one last thing to settle...

Stealth Black, or Nebula Red? Either way I get a Sorceror color. ^^

The Stealthy Pirate 07-23-2011 07:23 PM

Stealth Black. :D I think you can guess why.

Tiberius Fireskull 07-23-2011 11:54 PM

Good news and bad news.

Good news: Ordered the laptop. Yes, it was in stealth black.

Bad news: Shipping date is 8/3/11. A bit later than I would like. Oh well, at least I'll get it...

akamystic 07-28-2011 02:27 PM

Will be here before you know it.....keep us in the loop. I'm interested in benchmarks ....lol

Tiberius Fireskull 07-28-2011 05:04 PM

New news! The laptop ended up shipping TODAY, ahead of schedule! It should be arriving August first, so I can probably get it up and running that day or early the next day (in time for the guild party, me hopes).

Dark_Pixie 07-28-2011 05:29 PM

Hooray! That's very good news. :D Yay for new laptop!

HammyTheSquirrel 07-28-2011 09:58 PM

Nice! :p Will be great to have you back, Davy!!!

WitchdoctorDan 08-01-2011 02:05 AM

Good for you.

I should be getting an M14x or other by Christmas. I live by ballpark estimates, not exact dates. :laughks2:

akamystic 08-01-2011 02:33 AM

Sweet.......you'll be back in your War Frigate soon...... :piratewheelgo2:

Tiberius Fireskull 08-02-2011 05:48 PM
