Desktop Launcher? *Merged*
Does anyone know if there is a new POTCO desktop launcher that works?
Or is POTCO still making us play on browser? |
Loading issues?
Well, this is really annoying me. I can launch the program from the web browser. It seems to go all fine and dandy. I go onto a public ship to do some plundering with my new character and (this is just today after the update), it locks up. I can move and everyone can talk.. but everything around the ship is frozen. So, I teleport to Tortuga. It won't even teleport!
So, by now I'm frustrated. I close it out and go back in. I level up my pistol before I realized I wasn't on Abassa like I thought. So, I teleport. Frozen again! Is anyone else having the same problem I am with this new update? |

Ok, you can get the pirates launcher online, or you can seed it from another computer, OR you can have a friend send it to you provided you do know someone in real life who also plays on launcher. I'm not sure we are supposed to post links to other sites on here but look for it on file planet or google it. PB |
Last night I couldn't log on through the browser so I unistalled the game completely from my computer. Then I went back and logged in and it let me download the launcher. The only problem I'm having with using the launcher is that when I try to change the screen format to window mode, the whole thing goes black. I gave up. Lol! I hope you have better luck than I did. :pirate6:

If you are Basic Access, you cannot play in launcher. However, if you are Unlimited Access and want a launcher, here it is:

I think you can just download it from a link in the Release Notes... I did it, but it isn't loading. :( Probably because the game is entirely down, though. Hope it works! ;)
EDIT: doesn't seem to be loading at all. I click it and it just says "Retrieving Version Info", then nothing else happens. -_- |

After all those problems, I couldn't play it anymore either. Totally wouldn't do anything..
But it's working now! Hopefully with no issues.. |

I have had trouble loading the game in the first place since Queen Anne's Revenge was added. With this update, it now loads the game, but when it gets to 30 some % it stops.

I've tried it, it says you half ill load faster if you had basic. Had it loading for the whole day for 12 hours. Nothing.... Bought unlimited and worked fine. :)

I've been using the browser since potco came back online today. I re-installed the launcher since I was having issues earlier with it. After logging in and loading it says, "Connection Closed!" Is anyone else having that problem? I have unlimmited access.

Well, my launcher is working!!! ..... almost....
I can log in now, but after the "updating" process, it says "encountered an error" nd kicks me back out to the log in screen :sadmh9: |
The old launcher, which I posted above, is no longer available to Basic Access members. You will get stuck on "Connecting to the game...please wait" and it will get you nowhere. The new one in the Release Notes will allow you to play even if you are Basic Access.

Cant find a new one... though mine dowloaded something on its on, Now mine simply crashes while loading instead of staying stuck at the "Connecting to the game...please wait"

Hmm my launcher was giving me an error a day or two ago,my solution? a simple reboot... that normally fixes my computer. so try that... cause that's all I got for now.

You could try to see if the Launcher is already running in the background...
To check (and maybe fix) this, first go to your Task Manager, (Ctrl+Alt+Del). Then, go to the tab that says "Processes." Sort the list by name and look for "Launcher1.exe." If you see it there, then select it and push the button on the lower right hand corner that says "End Process." That is all I can think of at the moment... Hope this helps! :D |
Download the launcher again. The first download could be partially corrupt.

Sounds like something else that is in memory is causing a conflict. What Anti-Virus do you have? What programs launch on boot (in start-up)?

Hmm... I use AVG for Anti-Virus. Programs... not sure... only know of a little pop up that shows the weather. xD But if that was the problem (which I doubt) it would probably affect the test launcher and the Toontown launcher too.
Oh... and back in 2008 when I had tried to play (too much lag) the launcher i think worked fine with AVG... __________________ |
I use AVG as well. Are you familiar with looking at your start-up items via msconfig and running services via services.msc? What OS are you running (XP, Vista, or 7)?

Click start - run - and type in "msconfig" (minus the quotations) - click ok. Click on the start-up tab and expand the window. Stretch command and location so everything can be seen. Take a screen shot. Also take a screen shot of services (check hide all Microsoft services first). Post them so we can get to the bottom of this.

Ok.... let's take another approach for the time being. Since AVG isn't very efficient at catching malware/spyware I would suggest making sure the PC is clean first. Do a Google search for Superantispyware free (works great) and download and install from either the cnet or filehippo site. The program will automatically update with the latest definitions. Then run a full scan. Report your results.

Ok... so I went back to Live Chat and the guy went through every possible thing that could have been wrong with it. He even got me to download a new version of my Graphics thingy,... but that didn't help. So after I restarted my computer to finish the Graphics installation, I went back to Live Chat. I ended up with the same guy again, and he told me that he would move my bug report and stuff up to the Development team to see if they could find the problem with the launcher... since it wasn't really a problem with game, but the launcher itself. One of the oddest bugs I have ever seen!
I'm just glad that he took my issue into consideration and decided it was important... especially if POTCO plans on ditching the browser. :psmiley27: |
It still might be something in the PC causing the issue. Try my suggestion above if you want. It's a start.

Can't Log on
Whenever I click on the launcher, it doesn't come up no matter how long I wait, I also try double clicking it. Any suggestions?

This issue appears to be popping up more frequently over the past few weeks. Has anything in your PC changed since this started? Install any new programs? Windows updates?

Um... yeah. Does it just load to the main log in page... then go *poof* in less than a second with no trace of it being there? That's what I have. I went on Live Chat, but nothing that the guy told me to do helped, so he said he'd hand the issue over to the development team. o.O So... sorry mate... I don't think I can help. x(

Then click the compatibility tab and, under Compatibility Mode, make sure the box is unchecked. (this worked for me... idk if it will work for other OS than XP, but it's worth a try. ;))

xD I changed it a while ago because I didn't understand why the new version of the launcher (that they put in the release notes) wasn't working at all. hmm... Maybe this thread should simply not exist anymore... closed? xD

I'll be doing more research on this over the weekend. Please post any updates or info that might be relevant.
When posting about issues with the launcher, please be as specific as possible. Is this your first time using the game launcher? When was the last time it worked? What Operating System? 32 or 64 bit OS? Has anything changed in your system? Install any programs since it stopped working? Have any drivers been updated? Windows updates installed? Any specific error messages? The more information you can provide me with out of the gate, the faster I can try to determine what is causing the issue. Thanks...... |
