Does this game make you feel like a real part of the movie?
I think Pirates Online has lost a lot of its authentic parts. I mean when your walking down Port Royal you don’t see a busy town all the time just on occasion. I see empty streets and quest givers. I think they should maybe put a few extra NPC in there that are walking around with crates and carrying out their lives like they would in the 1700s. Adding the people to the Islands could make it seem more diverse. I mean all of our islands. They have generally the same kind of people. They all look like Pirates. Not everyone in the movie was a pirate. I mean even the people giving out our quests all except maybe Elizabeth Swann don’t look anything like they should have. I don’t see any finely dressed Englishmen on Port Royal, I don’t see Guards watching over the city. They hide in the fort. Back in the Old Port Royal they did have guards walking around the streets marching up and down. It was more authentic back then.
I think our biggest competitor for this game is Pirates Of The Burning Sea. This game is not really for kids with its in-depth strategies and game-play. That game though is more authentic. Their main Pirate Port is filled with NPC and their islands are diverse. I don’t think that a Pirate/Swashbuckling Town would look pretty much the same as the big time Navy Port. In our game it does. I think a way to improve the overall experience for many without having to add new islands and this and that. Would be making our islands feel more real and diversed. Our wild islands all look pretty much the same too. Filled with undead and a jungle. More diverse Jungles that don’t look like they were copied and pasted would be pretty nice too. I mean this would improve the game ALOT it would make it feel more like a pirate and less like a game. Feel free to add on or tell me I’m insane but thanks for reading. Don’t get me wrong I love playing Pirates Online. I’d just like it to make me feel more like a pirate. |
I agree with you totally. i hope the POTCO staff are reading this now
|
I have posted this same comment on many forums. If i get enough support with it I will be sending it to Disney.
|
I agree 100%
|
Well, That's Disney.

I agree...although with a caveat:
If you add more NPCs moving around you're going to add to the already horrific lag. Static NPCs don't contribute much to the lag. But I've got to give props to the devs...as much as I miss the old islands, the new designs really reflect the movies as far as geography. They're very true to the movies. If you watch Dead Man's Chest, with Will's conversation with Cutler Beckett, and then look at the game Port Royal, you're seeing the same island. Looking down from the fort onto the docks...it's a ringer. Tortuga...who knows. In the movies we saw very few wide shots. I'd love to see the "governor" being dunked in the game. The key dog is in the game...I think the dunking scene would be so great in the game too. But we've got Jack, Hector, Gibbs, Tia Dalma, Elizabeth and Will and, I think Murtogh and Mullroy (in the Black Pearl cut scene...I think that's them, although not rendered to look like the movie characters). I like that. Although I still don't understand what Jolly Roger has to do with anything. Gimme Davy Jones! |
Wild islands also need more NPC's that give out quests. Wild islands are becoming very unecessary in the game, because they pretty much have no more function (excluding tormenta), and there's just no point to go there.
Look at raven cove too. There's only 1 (story) quest for the entire island, and its a main island too. I mean, seriously?! I think the main problem with this game is that mosty of the locations in game have pretty much no function. Also, Tortuga has to look more dirty. With its bright, clean street and grassy fields, just....no Really, this game does not really reflect the movie in the least bit, minus the character and island names. |
I 75% agree. True, Disney are forgetting what they're doing, and just adding stuff for the heck of it. I'm sure it won't take much work to add some minor details. I wasn't online during the time that Pirates was a lot more realistic, and I wouldn't say Pirates was at its best.

Anyway, I think Pirates isn't very true to the movie, but it is just a game. If they made everything detailed and like the movie, people on older machines will have severe lag and some may have to purchase faster computers. Unless this is just a question of making things more dirty and rustic, then I'm with you all the way. But with the NPCs, I agree with ukebec. If you want to live the true pirate experience, my best advice is to press F12 in-game. No buttons, no messages, no names. Just true pirate atmosphere. Hope that helps. |
On the matter of Raven's cove, it is a ghost islands, you can't ask for many quests there. But I could see where you should be able to quest for decent weapons on certain islands or if weapon customization comes weapon skills and powers.

POTBS doesn't really have islands, we just have ports that we can go on. Here are all the ports...

That looks a bit complex.
The thing about POTCO, is that it needs way more islands, but not so much as its totally complex. I mean, POTCO is good at making story lines outta nothing, so i'm sure they could explain the discovery of 5 new islands and tons of new ports with story quests. |
The codes to create POTCO are long. That's why they copy and paste, because mo one has time to type a code all day just to change a guys clothes. Same for the jungles.
So I dont support this. |
So your saying the PoTCO staff shouldn't make it a better game, becuase its hard??

In all honesty, this game doesnt feel like part of the movie to me. There are no escapes from the Navy, and no witty backtalk (much to my dismay :P) I mean they should add a little bit more (such as the things I said) but it would be cool if we saw more of the main characters. I mean all the movie characters just sulk at wherever they are.
|
The game doesnt feel like a movie at all. For example, what i didnt get was why did they add the Queen Anne's Revenge before the Davy Jones storyline. They have been promising us that for years now.
Another thing I didn't get is why did they added Jolly Roger when he has no meaning to the movies, I know he is the main bad guy here, but i still think they should actually add the storyline of the movies. So far they only have the first movie as a quest, to retrieve back the Black Pearl. |
It feels nothing like the movies, but I think that that is a blessing in disguise. Think about it, the only thing that keeps some of us playing is a new storyline that might be the final battle with Jolly Roger. Some of us like the fact that there will be a separate storyline in the future, even though we will probably be errand boys/girls like we are in the Black Pearl storyline. While some people want to have another cheap short quest like RC, but for Blackbeard and the 4th movie, I want to finally kill Jolly Roger. Or at least progress the story a little bit. :P

The POTCO Staff keeps releasing "Stall" Updates, that frankly seem pointless to me. They release something small every 2-3 months to keep us happy. I'd rather wait 6 months to get something that revolutionizes the game then have to wait 12 because they're busy making stalling updates as well.
|
I don't really want it to be just like the movies. Games based off of movies are not very appealing to me. Just I feel like I'm just a normal person walking around Port Royal when really I'm a villanous criminal who has killed thousands of people. Since when can they walk down streets and not have a worry?
