Best movie trilogy?

Which movie trilogy is the best one?

Requiem 12-17-2007 07:23 PM

Of the ones mentioned, I think Lord of the Rings was the better trillogy. Star wars is no longer what I consider a trillogy, and most other 'trillogies' I can think of do not come up to that particular scale. Of course, Trillogy here I only refer to movies in sets of 3, there are many other movie 'legacies' out there that I would think of as better.

Nickpf 12-17-2007 08:43 PM

I put other
James Bond!!
It's the longest movie trilogy!

Eliza Shipwrecker 12-18-2007 12:52 AM

James Bond is a series of movies featuring the same character(s), but each one capable of stadning alone. A trilogy is a sequence of three movies that advance a storyline from one movies to the next.

It's hard to pick a "best" trilogy, because it's difficult to compare different genres against each other. I think the trilogies listed are among the best (and I agree that Star Wars doesn't qualify - though I love the movies), for different reasons, but I would also add:

The Matrix
Indiana Jones (at least until another one comes out)
Ocean's Eleven, Twelve and Thirteen

PirateSavvy 12-18-2007 05:00 AM

Pirates of the Caribbean all the way!

OutlawZ 12-18-2007 01:06 PM

best trilogy?...

got to be Curly, Larry and Moe!

DKpirate 12-20-2007 10:19 PM

I went with the original trilogy for Star Wars. However, Pirates of the Caribbean is a close second.

Plunderin Mom 12-31-2007 05:34 PM

Lord of the Rings all the way for me. I think the first POTC movie was great, but I wasn't as interested in the other two. Have never even seen any of the Spiderman movies.

Bourne Identity has been another good series (though not nearly the epic adventure of any of those listed above that I've seen).

Chris 12-31-2007 08:57 PM

eh POTC all the way , spider man 3.. that was horrible, lord of the rings i saw it so long ago i dont remember and im too lazy to watch it now

JohnnyGunflint 12-31-2007 11:26 PM

Spidey is one of me favorite comic series, and I also love its media triology. Though, I do admit Spidey 3 was a bit overacted.

defhed 01-01-2008 11:02 AM

i think u left out of the best trilogys, Final Destination!!!!!!!

Caleb Killagin 01-01-2008 05:50 PM

Pirates of the Caribbean was a wonderful trilogy by Jerry Bruckheimer. Though is soon to be trilogy "National Treasure" was much more amazing. Cant wait for the third movie in the series, it is going to be called "National Treasure: Page 47".

The_Farmer 01-01-2008 06:14 PM

Oh, this was hard. Pirates of the Caribbean was my pick but the others called out to me as well.

I choose Pirates because it's very original and easier to follow than Lord of the Rings or a few other choices in this poll. Pirates pretty much has all the genres covered as well as a bit of history. Overall, great poll, but Pirates chooses my heart.

I'm surprised there aren't as many Pirates of the Caribbean voters as there is.

Lord of the ringy-ding-dingers

POTC was going to be my favorite till they killed my cuddly squid-man off :(

Lord of the rings all the way then!

Fav Trilogy

Geez, thats a toss up for me. My first inclination is Star Wars Episode 4-6. As I tried to rationalize my thoughts I came to realize that POTC 1-3 and SW 4-6 aren't that different. Black Pearl and A New Hope are very similar. They can both stand alone, are great movies, and make you want more. Empire is soooo much better than Dead Man's Chest. Sorry, it is. At World's End is better than Jedi. I think the Ewoks kill any chance for Jedi. There are so many plot maps and similarities as both triliogies go along. Oh...SW 1-3. Different trilogy. Can't group them with 4-6. I guess my vote would have to go with the "Other" because there is no option for the two I have chosen. I guess if you had a gun to my head I would have to choose SW 4-6.

Though, before this May, how come Indiana Jones didn't get a sniff in this survey?

RoseS 03-05-2008 06:38 PM

The Godfather all the way. Hard to believe it wasn't on the list.

joshephe1 03-05-2008 07:23 PM

I vote other Indiana Jones

Matt_just_Matt 03-05-2008 10:45 PM

I only got three words for this....

DarthChaosSky 03-06-2008 04:18 AM

The Matrix Trilogy

This poll sucks. You forgot one of the best trilogies, "The Matrix"!

Swordblade 03-07-2008 01:41 AM

Pirates of the Caribbean 100%. I'm not saying I'm the movies #1 fan, but I'm probably in the top 50 fans list.

Samantha Wildhound 03-07-2008 06:05 PM

original star wars trilogy :)

Waterush 03-07-2008 06:28 PM

I liked star wars episodes 1-3...

I like pirates of the caribbean as well I just wanted to vote for SW :)

Matt_just_Matt 03-08-2008 03:56 PM

What, no Bruce Campbell fans!!?

Maybe I was a bit too cryptic (or inaccurate on the wording- go figure) on earlier post. My favorite trilogy is the Evil Dead trilogy. (Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, and Army of Darkness). Maybe not critically acclaimed, but still one of director Sam Raimi's most creative work, imo. I know these films ripped off a lot of ideas from other films, but they also provided much original material to future ripoff artists! Bruce Campbell is a perfect fit for the role of Ash. Without him, this would not have been a series of movies. The project would have died after the original Evil Dead.

Samantha Wildhound 03-08-2008 04:20 PM

well cheer up, i knew what ya meant,

and "ash" has still got that wit and humor, i enjoy him in USA networks Burn Notice series.

Crackers 03-10-2008 03:24 PM

Jason Bourne Movies

Destiny 03-10-2008 06:07 PM

That was the hardest poll EVA to vote on. I just sat there staring going "I don't knoooooooooow!!! Why make me chooooose??!" lol.

After a lot of thinking with my love of Pirates, Star Wars, and Lord of the Rings...:sigh: I finally went with the trilogy that moved me the most, which was...

Lord of the Rings.

Everytime I went to see one of the movies (night it was released) I would always get very emotional and such just by the scenery, everything in those movies was just..perfect.

But omgs my love for SW and PotC is just as strong! :clings to her Darth Vader and Will Turner dolls: lol.

mobilebadboy 03-11-2008 08:39 AM

I wouldnt consider Final Destination a trilogy since there are, as of now, future movies planned. If I have to pick of the listed, I would say LOTR. I'm not a fan of that genre of movies, but they had me hooked.

I'm going to have to go with Eliza, as well, with the Oceans movies.

But there are several trilogies I like: Back to the Future, Beverly Hills Cop, the Meet the Parents trilogy, the Mexico trilogy (El Mariachim, Desperado and Once Upon a Time In Mexico), I can go old school with John Wayne (it's John Wayne), Rush Hour (? maybe), Fast and the Furious....there are many trilogies, all of which are going to be good to a wide set of audience.

It's all about preference of movie.

Vandelay 03-11-2008 08:56 AM

Thanks for all the replies and votes so far! Just to clarify, my intent for this poll was mainly just to compare the "Pirates" movies with other big trilogies that are in the same category. I probably should have titled my poll "Which PG-rated action/adventure trilogy is the best?" Anyway, that's why there's no option for "Godfather", "Bourne", "Matrix", etc. -- all of which I really like too. I just want to test your level of "Pirates" fandom a bit. :)

I probably could have added "Back to the Future", I just forgot about it. Oddly enough, I don't really think of "Indiana Jones" as a trilogy -- just 3 separate movies about the same guy. There's not really one continous storyline that runs through all 3, and not many recurring characters.

I've enjoyed seeing your votes and reading your comments. :)

Captain 03-11-2008 04:54 PM

I would have voted POTC if the Star Wars OT hadn't been there.

The only good movie in the Spider-Man series is Spider-Man 2.... >_<

And btw if Indy had been an option, I'd have voted it. Even though it's not a trilogy anymore.
