Chat Filter

I understand the need for it for a game by Disney, this filter they use is horrid. I especially dislike having to type this in guild chat 4-5 times to figure out why it's not going though.... just to "home" in on the "bad" word

Some I've found:

Almost
Most
Drive
Killing (Can say Kill)
Balls (Can say Ball)
Morning (Only gets cut in guild chat, not effected in local even with + on) proves something is really messed up with chat filter....
Molly
Butter
Password
xp
exp

More to come as I find them....

Vangelis 12-12-2007 12:41 PM

The chat filter is one of the most pointless things in the game.

I can't even write a word that begins with "wrong" letters, i.e

ga....

fu....

sh.... (I mean what use is that if I want to say ship????)

Pointless, Disney, very pointless. Just ban people who use bad language without this stupid filter, that stops you from saying almost every word.

Pirate Rose 12-12-2007 02:49 PM

Vangelis, I don't understand why you can't type words beginning with ga, fu, and sh. I have no problem with that. Hmmm, make sure the + isn't showing in your chat box. If there is a + there, click on it until that little box is blank. :)

Ironhawk 12-12-2007 02:59 PM

Rose is right. If there is a + in the chat box, we can't write some words even numbers.
They are turned into arrrr.

Garborg 12-12-2007 06:01 PM

You have no option for the + when it comes to guild chat, also it won't light up red the "problem" word... all you get is no output to guild chat. Big pain to figure out which word in a big long speal is the problem.

Or maybe it blocks it if someone in guild has the + on... I don't know.

Hile 12-13-2007 12:03 AM

On another thread I had started I was told any word with "mo" in it is blocked in guild chat.

OutlawZ 12-13-2007 12:52 AM

I trued to type "telephone" or "phone" or "cellphone" or "mobile"

and, of course, I couldn't!!

How ridiculously frustrating!

Nick 12-13-2007 01:22 AM

I just turned the filter off, can't you do that yourself?

OutlawZ 12-13-2007 02:04 AM

what??!!
theres a way to turn off the filter???!!!

Turning the filter off doesn't help with guild chat. Instead of turning your words to arrr it just doesn't send anything you typed. Eeven with filter off.

Plunderin Mom 12-13-2007 02:49 PM

Why is it that only some people can't see what you're saying unless you use the + symbol (filter) in the chat box?

I was getting so frustrated with this poor kid the other day. He was the friend of a friend and kept asking the same questions over and over. I would answer him again and again and he never seemed to see what I was saying. Then I remembered some people can't see what you're saying unless you use the + symbol in the chat box. Is it like a parental option people specify and use to insure they or their kids wont read inappropriate chat?

Anyway, it would sure be nice to be able to distinguish who it was you needed to use it with. I had actually deleted the kid from my list before I figured out what the problem was, because he never seemed to be listening. After I thought to try the + symbol, the kid turned out to be very respectful of others and enjoyable to play with, and I felt terrible for deleting him initially.

Garborg 12-13-2007 03:02 PM

Having a + sign next to thier name would help, a least that way you know who can see it and can't. Still doesn't fix guild chat issue though.

OutlawZ 12-13-2007 04:31 PM

at the first indication of suspected chat failure,
I "whisper" to someone to make sure they can hear me.

"Insuring kids don't read inappropriate chat"

LOL
We can't even type "appropriate" chat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL

Plunderin Mom 12-13-2007 04:53 PM

I have to type all the "mo" words as "m0" so often that I find myself typing it that way it in IM's or here out of habit, and then remember I don't need to.

Davos 12-13-2007 05:38 PM

I agree. The chat filter, and the chat system as a whole are really, really bad.

Works fine for me and everyone else I know.

Turn it off in open chat it will affect it in crew and guild chat too.

*shrug*

Maybe the problem only exists if someone in guildchat has the + on? I don't know, I can't seem to figure it out. But my sentences with any of the words listed in OP will not get displayed in guild chat. My + is off by the way, problem is still there.

Sorry to hear it isn't working
When all else fails, submit a bug report and wait.

WizardHawk 12-14-2007 07:09 AM

The guild chat bug has existed since beta days and is a real bug that they are aware of, but for whatever reason has not as of yet fixed. How do you know it isn't a setting but an actual bug? Because the words that cause your output not to show work in both crew chat and even open chat. Why on earth would you filter ONLY guild chat and leave the things people say to strangers in open without those filters?

I'm fine with the overactive filter with the use of numbers and anything that could refer to an email address or phone number. Have to protect the kids afterall, but m0 bug makes me want to put my keyboard through the wall sometimes.

As said in other threads on the same topic, just having your friends/guild mates all crew up on the same server solves the problem.

kaylin 12-15-2007 08:30 AM

I found that you can't say the word lemon. Also, tomorrow (can't ever say to my friends "see you tomorrow") or the worde "more" (how many more ships do you need?) I always break up everything I type now, nothing is more frustrating than typing everything out just to find that because of ONE word nothing you have typed will go through!

OutlawZ 12-15-2007 01:39 PM

So we end up creating a system where smart alecks spend all their time trying to figure out ingenious ways to type swear words in chat!

Wouldn't it make more sense to monitor and police each other?
Report offensive language or behaviour and risk deportation from the game?

and in return have a comfortable, easy to use chat system?

If 'mo' is in the word you can't say it.

OutlawZ 12-16-2007 07:10 PM

so, can someone point me to how to turn off the chat filter (in any manner)?
I can't seem to find that control.

Hile 12-16-2007 07:19 PM

It's not that easy.

First you need to be registered as an adult account. Log in here to easily check. https://register.go.com/go/login?app...rservices/home

Next, if you see a + sign in the chat bubble to the left of your chat type box, click it to get rid of it.

Even after that you'll have some filtering. Local is less restricted than crew and guild.

Cannon Mad Dan 12-17-2007 06:20 AM

The filter is garbage. It shouldn't show that you said something if it omits it to everyone else. I always sit there waiting for a response, only to realize I said "most" in the message and nobody saw it.

Jack Sunshot 12-20-2007 08:37 PM

I find that the main problem in the chat is the fact that you can't use the letter "o". Other than that, I find that the chat is actually very free. There are a few things that you can't say in a phrase that you can say is two-word phrases. It's wierd. It needs to get better, but I can get by on what it is like now. Its better than VMK and Toontown, I'll give them that.

gingersilver 12-30-2007 02:19 AM

The chat filter is very strict. I mean I understand why they block out #'s (So you don't give out phone # / adress) but without #'s tring to explain how many you need for a quest or anything like that is nearly impossible. I need a skeleton ship and another and another and another. LOL :mickeypiratezd4:

jg007 12-31-2007 10:33 AM

when I play my son's character I cant even say the names of people in the guild and this is a real pain as I end up having to try and split the name into allowed words with is really hard with some names.

even on my main charcter I get problem as mentioned with ' more ' and loads of other words that just stop the sentence that I spent 1-2 mins typing from not apearing ! :degen:

what is even more of a pain is because my son doesn't always get spellings right his chat gets blocked more than mine as words that are not spelled correctly just get blocked.
