Of Pirates, Plunder and Notoriety

By now, I am sure you all know that they have raised and fixed the gold cap issues. In the process of doing this, they also changed the Notoriety/experience gains.

If you use a Mastered weapon, you will earn nothing for for notoriety or experience, but will still gain plunder.

If you have maxed your weapons/sailing/cannon skills, not your notoriety, how do you continue to level up after this point?

WizardHawk 12-11-2007 08:03 PM

Is it possible at this time to max out EVERY weapon without reaching 40? Just asking because I really didn't think you could. I'm at level 38 (about 1/3 to 39) and the only thing I have maxed is sailing which I did long ago. Of course I have been trying to work the others all up. I have two at 19 and two at 24 and everything else is in between.

Seems from my experience that I will still have lots of room to make exp after I hit 40. Since all weapon exp goes to notoriety is it possible for someone to have made so much more on weapons without going up in notoriety?

Pirate Rose 12-11-2007 08:39 PM

First thing this morning I went to Tormenta, attuned 2 seabeards with my doll. I ran around in circles hitting poke and such. When they died, I was expecting to see the 100 rep for each that I usually get. I was shocked when I received 0. So, I did it again, running in circles just to get 0 rep once again. I complained to my guild mateys, kinda huffed and puffed about it for a bit.

I then tried to do some quick math to figure out how much more notoriety I need to reach 40, vs how much I still need to get each weapon to 25. I only did guesstimates, since I don't know excatly what I need to level, but I think I'll be fine for where I'm at.

I am definately going to stop working those weapons that are close to 25. lol

It's going to be a bit less fun getting to 40, not being able to use my favorite weapons, but as one guild matey said, this will just make us good at using all our weapons :)

A good thing though, is that we can now still earn notoriety and weapon rep even though we've reached the cap for gold.

Eliza Shipwrecker 12-11-2007 09:03 PM

I don't see how you could master all your weapons, sailing and cannons and not get to 40. You have to be level 30 to even get the final weapon, and with the rep point levels required when you get up into the 20s, it seems like it would put you pretty close to the top (especially if you're one of the few who have been able to complete the boss battle - isn't that 4,000 alone).

I guess it depends on how much rep you have to get for those last couple of levels. I'm at 33, and need 28,400 to move up again.

Grim Lightning Gate 12-11-2007 09:38 PM

Something else I've noticed; When you are leveling your weapons, your notoriety advances faster than your weapon does.
That is to say, you get more notoriety points than weapon points.

Like most people that far along, they are done with quests.

PixiePirate 12-11-2007 09:56 PM

I was incredibly upset to find out i get zero rep for using my maxxed staff. I just turned level 36 notoriety. I can not believe i get zero credit when defeating enemies still in the yellow and red for me with my staff. And, other ppl that have maxxed notoriety got to get full potential from their weapons and the rest of us do not.

I totally agree. What's the point of mastering it, which takes ALOT of time, if you don't benefit from using it?

WizardHawk 12-12-2007 01:13 AM

They can't leave it that way forever. They will raise the cap once they add more content and there will be no way to get to that higher level without being able to get credit for the items you fight with.

They will realize they can't keep this soon enough. Just a bit of confusion for some for now, but I still think everyone can reach level 40 as is, just a guess.

The benefit will be being able to defeat the higher enemies if the expansion ever comes out.

This might be a way to slow people down from reaching 40 so fast. I know that now that my doll doesn't give me rep, I'm using other weapons and not leveling quite as fast. Using my doll along with other weapons, I was able to get over 200 per molusk consistently, now it's only about 120-150.

Garborg 12-12-2007 10:04 AM

Does this include Sailing and Cannon? Could see a problem for those non-land-lubbers.

Vangelis 12-12-2007 07:44 PM

Just noticed...

That for weapons you have maxed out, you can no longer gain any rep towards the OVERALL notoriety of your pirate.

For example, I had maxed out my cutlass, but still got rep on my main level for kills. Now I don't, it gives ZERO rep every time.

There are 8 things you can get rep, 6 weapons, 1 Sailing, 1 cannon, I just hope these all add up to overall level 40.

Oh, and the quests as well of course :-)

Molly Redbowers 12-13-2007 04:52 PM

Rep earned from taking a weapon from L1 to Mastered, L25, at this point of time in the game earns 56600 reps for each weapon. If one includes Sailing and Cannon there are eight weapons that we have to master yielding a total of 452800 rep points. Here are the reps needed for each level:

L1 - L2 50
L2 - L3 150
L3 - L4 300
L4 - L5 500
L5 - L6 700
L6 - L7 900
L7 - L8 1100
L8 - L9 1300
L9 - L10 1500
L10 - L11 1700
L11 - L12 1900
L12 - L13 2100
L13 - L14 2300
L14 - L15 2500
L15 - L16 2700
L16 - L17 2900
L17 - L18 3200
L18 - L19 3500
L19 - L20 3800
L20 - L21 4100
L21 - L22 4400
L22 - L23 4700
L23 - L24 5000
L24 - L25 5300

Total Rep 56600

Looking at my current Notoriety and the weapons I need to master I feel the game will allow one to reach Notoriety 40. However, to do this I say one must Master all their weapons including Sailing and Cannon and complete the Black Pearl chapter to accomplish this.

I had not mastered a weapon until yesterday and I had not really given much thought to getting rep points after a weapon was mastered. However, after playing TT for a couple of years I really did not expect to receive any. I have tried to level up all of the weapons available. Once they add new content to the game I am sure adjustments will be made, whether it be in the form that we receive rep points for mastered weapons or new levels are attainable for each of our weapons.

Pirate Rose 12-13-2007 05:18 PM

I'm level 39, have 1 weapon mastered, and 2 at 21, the rest are at 23. This doesn't include sailing or cannon, and I have more than enough room with each weapon to reach level 40. yay :)

WizardHawk 12-14-2007 07:19 AM

I'm in much the same boat PR. Close to level 39 and no weapons mastered. I have had sailing mastered for a while, but cannon is 24 and two weapons are 24. 3 are at 20 and one or two in low 20's. Can reach 40 without worry.

Cannon Mad Dan 12-17-2007 06:26 AM

How'd you guys level up so fast?

I shouldn't have quit World of Warcraft last year. I'd be accustomed to long grinds and this game would be a cake walk.

Hile 12-18-2007 04:51 PM

Why bother trying to level fast? Whats the big hurry? I'm taking my time with it because I know once I reach it I'll be stuck waiting forever for new stuff and get bored. As casual as I'm playing I still feel like I'm leveling up too fast. Already level 28.

For me, it's all I can do while I wait. I really like the game and want to play. But I've finished all the quests, I don't like the PvP matches very much because they never seem to be evenly matched, and I suck at Poker. Until they add the Boss Battle and some new quests, there's not much to do but play with my weapons. :piratedanceeu8:

lestat123 12-30-2007 05:27 PM

Well I have a pirate im working and im going to try to get it into the lvl 30s without doing any of the black pearl quest just weapon lvling so ill know if its possible soon, its only at lvl 6 now but completly from weapons.

Have you considered creating a new pirate? I have two on open (LVL28 & 26) and one on test (LVL11) and I really enjoy going back and forth between them. I know I'd get bored just leveling the same one all the time.

My pirate on the test server is especially interesting to play, as there are so few people around to help him out. Often he is the only one around, so sailing from island to island, sinking ships, or fighting land battles can be really challenging (especially with the recent changes). It's strange - though refreshing - to have such limited skills again. (I only recently got the Tortuga Teleport and Voodoo Doll quests done, and am now working on Dagger.) But he might just end up being my best Pirate, as he won't make the same mistakes as my other two.

Eliza Shipwrecker 12-30-2007 09:54 PM

I actually did start another pirate, but I'm having a hard time staying interested with either of them.

I decided my new pirate would not make the same "mistakes" with how I used my skill points, but the thought of going through all those repetitive quests only have to have two pirates stuck with nothing to do just doesn't blow my skirt up. At this point I don't know if I'm even going to keep my membership - I'm very disillusioned with the whole game.

mrcharisma316 01-19-2008 05:36 AM

i dont see how im at 32 and have one mastered i kinda hate not being able to use my doll its useless now but to heal from time to time

Chris 01-19-2008 06:24 AM

Who's that?

rogueangel953 06-19-2008 03:24 AM

i actually sent an email to them, asking if they were planning on raising the limit on Not. and weapons, and this was their reply:

"Dear Pirates Online Guest,

At this time we are not aware of any plans to increase the maximum Notoriety level; however we appreciate your feedback on such a feature.

We are pleased to hear from our Guests and welcome your comments regarding current and possible future features of our products and services. We are continually balancing and updating the game as we strive to make Pirates Online a fun and safe place to play online."

so i guess we'll have to wait and see. not that i'll have to worry for a long time, I'm still only level 20 :D

mlratto 06-19-2008 05:25 PM

i'm almost in the same boat (no pun intended) as mr charisma. I'm lvl 38 and close to mastering everything but grenades. Currently my gernades are at lvl 12 because i find tossing them terribly boring. The thought of not getting to really use my other weapons for rep and spending god knows how many hours trying to master gernades is discouraging. The only light at the end of the tunnel might be when i get the siege charge...but i'm sure the novelty of that will wear off soon.

as far a a second pirate goes...well, i'm not even going to think about starting one until my big pirate is fully mastered...if i even get there!

I may misunderstand what your saying here, but perhaps the following will help.

I know I myself was concerned at what time, that I would hit level 40, and be stuck with weapons as they stood.

However I learned, that when you reach level 40 notoriety, you only stop receiving notoriety points/reps, but continue to receive weapons points/reps for any weapon you have not achieved level 25 with (ie mastered). You will be able to fully master your pirate, all weapons even after achieving level 40 notoriety.

Observe my sig graphic, my "Zeppers" pirate is FULLY mastered :)
(the +1/+6s represent upgraded weapons)

Periodically, they'll invite players to test on the test server. They don't simply accept anyone volunteering to play there.
