Disney has shut down POTCO Call Center

Anybody know why Disney shut down phone support for Pirates of the Caribbean Online?

Early this month (March) I was talking to them by phone and they told me they were given MORE responsibility as far as communications with the other departments of POTCO is concerned. Then, just weeks later, Disney removes all phone support for the game and it is very curious. I called their support number 877-427-7744, and I get a message that their phone support has been shut down, and no alternative phone number is available.

Disney has had phone support from the day this game was released all the way to now. If they're phasing out support, are they phasing out the game itself? I fear yes.

Any thoughts?

Does that include the online chat support too?

:sadmh9::zu032b::erti101: I don't want to even think they might shut down the game but it is strange that the call center is down.

Live chat works. As of Sunday that is.

Gosh why? Thats like the only way I can get a REAL answer on stuff. My "hypothesis" is it could be the economy and the MIGHT have laid off some workers. If I am right I don't think there will be a bright future for the game.

Interesting. Could this be due to budget cuts?

Tiberius Fireskull 03-30-2011 12:27 AM

That's interesting. Could be budget cuts, but I doubt it, as there have been a lot of new updates recently, so I'm guessing they have a lot of money right now to work with. That's pretty strange though that it was shut down. Perhaps they just forgot to pay the phone bill hehe...

Don't worry about it too much though. Let's see how long it lasts. If its more than a week or two, then thats curious. If we see problems in game, then that could mean bad news.

Well lets not think that far. The DIS (Disney) Stock says the company was up just almost touching 1% but only reached 42.94 points and increasing by the day. But why would they shutdown the calling office? If it was lay offs I'm not sure why they would cut people off.

It's possible they just either weren't open or just changed numbers. Who knows.

Mates, there is likely a shift in support. Disney Interactive laid off some 1,100 workers recently. This is not to say the game is dying. In fact, Disney has indicated it wants to put much more resources into online gaming at the cost of platform games - since there is apparently less overhead. So, I doubt pirates is dying anytime soon.

You can do it online! :)
Go to Account Services, Manage Account then Manage Membership.
At the very bottom of the page there is a link that says "Cancel Membership"

Today, I noticed the online text chat support was down... the message was "SORRY! Chat is Not Available Right Now" then they gave the operational hours below that. This message was being displayed midday, right smack in the middle of their published operational hours.

So I went back to the Support Link and indeed found they had new hours and a new phone number. I called it and it appears, although I am not certain yet, to be the same support department.

I'll call again tomorrow and find out for sure, because earlier this month they said they were increasing their communication lines between departments, and I want to find out if this new policy is still true, as well as get some feedback on whether others are getting kicked out of the game every half hour as does my account. (unexpected disconnection, you know the message, the one that doesn't generate any bug report, even though it is UNexpected... -- it happens to me at least once every half hour.)

The game is not dying-the Mouse is just re-vamping stuff like the future change-over to browser instead of launcher. The economy has affected us all & every company is doing make-overs to adjust & to stay competitive in the market, even if, the changes do not make us all happy campers. Am I a happy camper? Ask me that again when the launcher is discontinued-LOL

Okay.... this comment here should be the final one on this thread.

There are some changes at the Call Center... sounds like the personnel are all still there, but they are assigned more specialized tasks, focusing on fewer games per person, which I believe will indeed result in better phone support overall. They did change phone numbers, probably for that same reason. We've posted it here already, but once again, it is Phone: 1-888-507-9507. Their hours have changed as well -- they close a half hour earlier, as they have meetings now at the end of the day, which IMHO will result in better service to us. Their new Service Hours: Mon - Fri: 8:30am - 5:30pm (PST) <-- they mean PDT of course.

I got a little double speak when I asked what happened, that is, why the first phone message didn't give another number and the website removed all phone support information for a day. No doubt they changed their minds a couple of times within two days, but the final outcome seems to be a good thing.

So, that's it. I don't want to hear follow-ups from people who say "I told you so" because I go by facts not feelings, and for a moment there, I am quite convinced somebody at Disney said FINI to the call center, as all evidence supports that theory, then that order was belayed. Whatever the reason they said the only way to contact them was by email then the next day they have a new phone number to contact them is now moot. THE CALL CENTER HAS RETURNED.
