WARNING!!! 60k gold bug

First off let me say, me and my wife have sent in bug reports concerning this, but I thought it would be a good idea to also warn people here.

There is currently a cap of 60,000 gold. Which isn't a huge deal I guess, but once you hit 60k gold you can no longer gain rep, either by killing something or from quests. Also obviously you can no longer gain gold from quests or plunder.

Also if you gamble, DO NOT let your total gold exceed 60k or you will not get any of the gold from the table.

Granted this is not a problem many people will be having right now in the game, but I know some people who have reached higher levels perhaps may have encountered this problem.

Captain Grizzly 11-27-2007 12:17 AM

It's not a bug that I'm aware of, it's been that way since day 1 of Beta 1. If you max your gold you get no more rep. Only exception was in beta 1 you could still get cannon and sailing rep due to the fact the rep was handed out at sea before you docked and the gold handed out. Also if you killed things that don't normally give gold like the scorpions, wasps, stumps, and things like that you still got rep. They only give gold when you find a special item.

Thalore 11-27-2007 12:25 AM

I don't think we tested sailing and cannon skill. But we tested the other weapons.

Then we tried losing some money at gambling, and went back against the same guys, and got rep until the gold capped at 60k again. And you guessed it, you can't gain rep anymore.

So if this isn't a bug, this is how the game is going to work? once you have 60k gold you can no longer gain rep in weapons/notoriety? Wow that would be pretty lame if they don't fix that.

Captain Grizzly 11-27-2007 12:33 AM

Totally in agreement there. The caps dont make much sense to begin with. You max at 60K, you buy a war frigate that costs 60K and if you did like most ppl do, you sell your regular frigate at 56K to reach the gold you need, once you buy your new war frigate you got nothing left to make repairs if you happen to get sunk. Go figure!

koalita 11-27-2007 01:39 AM

I did try sailing (I'm Thalore's wife btw) and you can get rep from that because you wouldn't get the plunder until you dock. It has to be a bug. Why would maxing your gold mean you can't level up your weapons anymore? Just because it was like that on beta doesn't mean that's how it's supposed to work. Otherwise we'd be sailing through islands and crashing every five seconds. ;)

ScurvyCory 11-27-2007 02:20 AM

Yea, I just discovered that when I was buying my War Frigate. It took forever to get the last 500 in gold because it had to be exact. I tried playing poker, won a 1,000 gold pot, but it didn't add anything. After a while of playing and not getting any gold, I went sailing and finally got the right ammount.

I really hope they fix this problem...

Pirate Rose 11-27-2007 02:58 AM

What also a little confusing is, after you buy your war frig, and upgrade all your weapons, what happens when you reach 60k again? There's really nothing else to spend your money on.

You're kinda stuck since you can't level weapons, and have nothing to spend your money on.

koalita 11-27-2007 04:20 AM

The way I've been getting rid of gold is to go play poker with a friend and let them win my money.

Vangelis 11-27-2007 10:58 AM

Best way to lose lots of gold is

1. Play Poker
2. Buy Health Tonics

NannerFL 11-27-2007 03:25 PM

All I know is that it has been that way since the first beta. The devs have had reports about it going back to then. So either thats the way it's supposed to be or it's not an urgent issue for the devs. Either way, now that you know you have to stay below the max to keep getting rep, you can control the amount of your gold. Lose it at poker or do what we did in beta 1. Buy the most espensive ship and sell it back, cuts your gold in half just like that.

And I still sail through islands on occassion and crash :laughks2: Of course that could just be the rum :psmiley22:

If any of you people need help unloading this money at a gambling table to anyone, feel free to send me a PM and ill make sure im at the table :)

WizardHawk 11-29-2007 06:55 AM

This would have been handy info a few days back when we tried to push a guild mate to 60k to get their war frigate only to find the 13k+ pot won went nowhere and had to start over again.

There are so many examples in the game where it feels much more like advanced beta than a full priced gold version. Between the cap issues, the lack of higher level content, the serious lag and memory leak issues, and the very real problems with the grenades (just to name a few) it is becoming harder to understand why we should be paying full price for this game at this time.

Scarlet Hunter 11-29-2007 02:43 PM

OK, this 60K bug sort of explains what I'm seeing, but I want to be sure.

I'm one of the folks whose been "lost at sea" for a few days (another bug - ship permanently sailing ... can't board/launch). This morning, I got my boat back (frigate). In the time period where I couldn't sail, I've been playing poker to get to 60K to get my War Frigate.

Well, I'm at 59998. I won a 1K pot in poker, nothing. I went to fight some Veterans, nothing. No exp, no rep, no gold. I went to sell my frigate to buy the War Frigate, and it said my gold was maxed out.

So, in order for me to purchase the War Frigate, as well as resume getting notoriety, weapon exp and gold, I have to get *exactly* 2 gold to drop. If I kill lvl 1 skele's in Port Royal I think I get 1 gold each.

I can't try this out until tonight, but I hope this is my problem because at least it has a workaround, whereas my lost boat was a show-stopper.

koalita 11-29-2007 03:05 PM

Just so you know, if you complete a quest for gold, it will give you the remainder of what you need to reach 60k. Everything else has to be exact, but when I turned in a quest for 35 gold when I was at 59976, it gave me the 24 I needed to max out.

Scarlet Hunter 11-29-2007 04:32 PM

Thanks for the suggestion. As of this morning, I have my boat back, so I'll knock out one of those repeatable quests for the guy in Port Royal.

Then, the War Frigate is mine! Woo-hoo!

Hmmm... it must be a bug, because it isnt happening to everyone who reaches 60k. I dont think it's intended (at least not the part about not being able to level weapons or notoriety). Myself and several friends have all bought war frigates in the past and had to reach 60K to get them, and none of us are unable to leavel weapons, and are all still working on maxing them.

I didnt even know anything about it until just now. Does it only happen if you reach 60K while playing poker (I was just shy of 60K after a hand of poker, and killed a soldier for the rest, before buying my frigate)? Wow, that would be a bummer. After you reach level 30, and there are no more quests, thats like your main goal... to max your weapons.

Requiem 11-29-2007 08:49 PM

To the best of my knowledge at this time, once you attain 60,000 in gold, you will not gain any more Notoriety or experience on the weapon points. It will appear as though you are, but watch the meters and you will see it isnt adding to them. As long as you do not have 60000 in gold, you are just fine.

So far, there has been no exceptions to this on the open server, as starting up Sunday night it was a huge thing among many of my friends, and then I also hit this on Monday.

If you know of someone who has not hit this same snag, please, have them let us all know what they are doing differently, its rather irritating to play bad in order to lose gold so you can continue to play.

Thenelly 12-02-2007 07:14 AM

Lol, i just noticed that i am killing and killing to work my staff and i didnt get rep. Then i saw my amount of cash 60000 exact. Since i have a war galleon, i'll now buy a war frigate. But this is a bug that should be fixed as soon as possible!

gigarichard 12-08-2007 01:47 AM

POTCO just announced that the Gold Cap is now 65,000 gold pieces and that they fixed the bug of not gaining notoriety or experiance when near the gold cap :)

tayseth 12-08-2007 06:07 PM

phew.. where?

axel006 12-08-2007 07:45 PM

what? how r u supposed to buy war ships? wait i forget. r they in the 10,000s or the 100,000?

Requiem 12-08-2007 08:26 PM

The release notes for both the test server and the open server shared the fix for the gold bug. Release notes for the open server can be found posted here.

As for purchasing ships, the most expensive ship currently available is 60,000.

Dendore 12-19-2007 02:36 AM

any cap for gold is pretty lame, what about when or if they come out with customizible ships i think that should be expensive and all this gold youve been not earning cant be put to use for it.....

alot of stuff in this game is great but alot needs work not major work but some tweaks.

where would one submit input for this game cause i have searched and searched but to no avail i couldnt find no dev forums or any official community forums I just stareted 3 days ago but i see my self with 60k in gold in a week there should be other ways to spend it like more weapons etc
