Noob days

The recent addition of Infamy has made me realise how much the game has changed when I first joined. It made me realise how much I miss being a noob.... yea thats right. Here you can post some of your fondest memories of being a noob, or stuff you remember from the old PoTCO.

I remember wating for hours for alot of people to come into Abbassa, Port Royal and to where the Mercenary is. I thought they were the hardest enemies to kill.

I remember telling my maxed lvl 40 friend (40 was lvl cap back then) to not sink ships straight away, insted let me first shoot the navy cadets with my cannon before he sinks the ship.

I remember being confused why some peoples names were grey, some were blue and very few were yellow.

I remember the old Tortuga and Port Royal.... not Padres.

:buds: Happy noob days everybody. Enjoy them while it lasts

Ofury/ Tom 03-12-2011 04:00 PM

I remember the old chat colors and when there was lots of yellows lol

WeirdBeard 03-12-2011 04:36 PM

I remember when i was young(er) then i am today, i wanted t make guild called: The spartans. (no . in guild name yet) It was taken so i made The Spartans... (... was in guild name) BIG TIME NOOB, if you ask me...

Tiberius Fireskull 03-12-2011 05:07 PM

I miss all that... the thing I miss most is that feeling of mystery. The feeling that I don't know whats out there. Looking at that smoking island called Padres Del Fuego and wondering all about that. It made me really feel excited. Or that one time I teleported to my friend when he was in Tormenta Cave (before it was called Cursed Caverns), and I saw all the fish people and I got so excited.

That's what I miss. That feeling of excitement to discover all that stuff. Its gone now, and it is one of those things that you just can't get back.

titanic95594 03-12-2011 05:38 PM

I remember when I started playing July 2008. Everybody was nice. The islands were so fun to explore mostly the Port Royal one. The sailing music made me want to sail untill I sunk. From when everybodies body shape was big and bulky like a football player. It's that now I do not have this feeling anymore really. I think the past was better then now. So I wish that could happen and I be a noob again.

Olgarlenn 03-12-2011 06:02 PM

I remember old chat colors too :)

Aye, I miss it to. I remember those good ole days when I thought beating the crab on Port Royal beach was impossible. Ah, those good ol' days.:rumgt7:

The feeling of mystery, its kind of impossible to describe, sort of like a fire running through your chest, sword drawn. Raven's Cove sort of brought back the feeling of mystery, but not really because there was no epic plot. Jolly is blocking rum. Kind of fades away from Recovering from the Black Pearl, no?

Old Port Royal was the best. I remember camping out on the bridge near old Fort Charles I thought level 30s were unstoppable. Now a level 36 That couldn't be further from the truth.

Isaiah Ropeswine 03-12-2011 08:34 PM

I remember thinking leveling up was a HUGE deal...

I never get that feeling anymore. I sure do miss those times.

Catherine Ironcutter 03-12-2011 08:52 PM

Well, let's see...

I remember when I went into Fort Charles and got a skull chest. I freaked out, thinking it was this super rare thing I might never see again. I got a crab sticker bayonet, 200 gold, and a playing card. I thought this was the best loot anyone could possibly get. Epic noob fail, haha.

Oh yeah. And a level 6 me going to the back beach of Padres to take on Darkhart all by me lonely self. Heh. Big fail. One throwing dagger and I was in jail.

Said it all for me. I used to just cruise around on my light sloop, looking at the selection in the weapons stores, and seeing all those big ships with my jaw on the floor. Then I got UA. I was so PSYCHED for about a month, I had a plain Galleon and felt like the king of the world. Then, I got a War Galleon, a guild, crazy looting parties and a ton of gold. Then I got a War Fleet. Then I got the staff. Then I got to level 40... Then I stopped training...

SEAKING23 03-13-2011 06:12 AM

LOl i know how y'all feel... i was so exited to see new islands, what i did was journey to every single one of them. When i saw the big war frigates, i just though that i'd get a ship 5x your size jack, then we'll see whose the newb, aye?

Jim seapaine 03-14-2011 01:26 PM

I remember when they changed Port Royal... I must of gotten lost like 20 times.

Dog Gunmorgan 03-14-2011 04:13 PM

I wasn't playing when they changed port royal and Padres was already there when I started but I do remember that sense of mystery and and the BP quest was exciting and challenging (to a noob) but now that Doggy is 38(ish) and I have been around awhile with my other pirates that quest is just plain annoying because I realize now that most of what you do is run in circles looking for stuff lol

I also remember when they raised the level cap from 40 to 50 and from 25 to 30(for weapons) I was very upset because at that point I had Sailing and Sword mastered and when they did that I had to do it again! I have sword mastered again but I'm still working on sailing!

anyways I do miss me noob days and I wish they would come up with another story quest like the BP that is new and exciting for everyone!

titanic95594 03-14-2011 05:09 PM

I wish they put the older islands back if they do how about a server just for older players and they can hang out and share the memories.

WitchdoctorDan 03-16-2011 02:01 AM

I wish they would put back the old islands, retextured. Or not. The new islands were and are terrible. Port Royal is (or at least feels like) half it's size. I miss PR the most...

Tiberius Fireskull 03-16-2011 02:26 AM

I miss Padres the most! How many of you enjoyed Cliff Diving?!

SEAKING23 03-16-2011 02:51 AM

Maybe the EITC should try another attempt to end piracy....

Captain Sharktooth 03-16-2011 03:11 AM

I remember teleporting to a public War Galleon for the first time, and whispering to my other noob friends I was on one. I was so excited. I remember the old Port Royal, and that long walk all the way up to Fort Charles. I remember struggling to shoot down a Sea Viper. And I remember seeing everyone's names without the name of a guild under them. I remember getting killed so many times by Claude D'Arcis in Thieves Den. I remember how easy it was to navigate the caves back then too. So many things I miss....

This.

I only really remember the old Tortuga. All others are lost to me, minus the area going to Ft. Charles. Sadness. :stcry:

Panos 03-16-2011 12:44 PM

Why did they have to change the islands (and caves) anyway? Was there a reason?

Sarah Yellowwrecker 03-21-2011 11:44 PM

i remember when the noob captain leon came on and made a giant EITC and tormented pirates - sigh - i wish the three co empires never happened

SEAKING23 03-21-2011 11:58 PM

Well whats wrong with role playing?

I disagree with the EITC thing myself, i mean, they CAN'T do anything, but its his choice.

Tanz 03-22-2011 04:59 AM

I haven't played consistently for the last two and a half years, but I remember there being only a few different types of guns. The Normal Pistol, Double Barrel, and Triple Barrel. I'm pretty sure when I bought my Sloop it was 2,000 not 1,000 like they are now. I would get 300 gold from plundering ships and think it was the best plunder ever.

Sam Ironswain 03-22-2011 01:39 PM

I was away from POTCO for about three years and just came back.:psmiley27:

Most of the islands are different and there are a few more. I miss some of the friends I had in the game who are all gone. :sadmh9:

MacIronhawk 03-22-2011 02:52 PM

I don't want Port Royal, Tortuga, and Padres to switch back to what they used to be, but I'd really like to see them take those islands, and rename them so we can have three "new" places to go to.

The islands were really fun to go on, and it seemed that throughout time Disney kept on dumbing down little graphics here and there because of "lag", and we ended up losing them because they caused lag. Honestly, I don't believe that they could cause that much lag. I have more lag now than I did with the old islands, so there's really no reason to take the islands back, redo them a bit, and add them to the game.

SEAKING23 03-22-2011 05:39 PM

Well POTCO is a low budget game... maybe it had something to do with that?

Ofury/ Tom 03-22-2011 06:31 PM

i remember the days when Founders outnumbered us regular players :D and the small fraction of basics inculding myself.

katbluedog 03-22-2011 06:44 PM

Do you remember fighting forever to get the level 20 weapons? The quests were long and hard but it was worth it! I had an old tradition when I got a new quest weapon. I would kill the cadets in front of the Fort Charles to test it out. Remember trying to kill the fly traps for doll? The fly traps were a higher level and they were so hard to kill. The quest weapons used to be the best weapons in the game before El Patron's Weapons came out.I used to fight on Fort Charles to get a loot container. I got excited when I got my first bayonet!

I remember getting to level 15 sailing for my war ships. I launched each individually and my brother taught me how to glitch into the ships. I saved my gold for a long time before I got my war ships. I was so excited to buy my war ships. I got to level 15 during a double rep event. I got so mad because somebody went afk on my ship.I couldn't repair my ship or relaunch my ship. I was so ready for my war ships that I actually sunk my frigate to get the afk pirate off.

Do you remember before the repairing games came out? I do because I used to use the privateering islands to free repair my ship. I would launch on the French island and repair my ship for free! That was before I knew that people could attack you or sunk your ship.

As a noob, I used to get lost on Tortuga. I would say that I was a pirate who couldn't find the bar! I got lost on Port Royal and Padres too. I used to sail to random islands just to explore them. That was a very brief look into my noob days.

SEAKING23 03-22-2011 09:07 PM

Yeah i miss the days of exploration :(

Ofury/ Tom 03-22-2011 09:38 PM

I miss the old islands they were more realistic and more fun to explore... I LOVED the old port royal it was amazing now port royal seems kinda blah.

Tiberius Fireskull 03-22-2011 09:51 PM

If some of you remember, the old Port Royal had Cadets patrolling through the town. I miss that, and I wonder why they don't have them patrolling anymore. I really loved the old Port Royal and especially Padres. The old Tortuga was alright. The one part about it I really liked was the area in the back with Hendry Cutts where it was all lush and away from the actual town. Again, I really miss cliff diving at Padres. I suppose Raven's Cove has cliffs to dive from, but still.

Sorry haha, just felt like sharing some memories of the old islands. I wish that they would put them back as some new islands. The models would work pretty well for a new island.

SEAKING23 03-22-2011 11:32 PM

Why would they take it out???

WeirdBeard 03-22-2011 11:42 PM

I remember when i through if i talked in Local, the WHOLE, WHOLE, (all servers) could hear me.

Captain C83 03-23-2011 02:05 AM

I went to King's Head and seeing all the soldiers there had green and yellow levels over them and thinking "Gee, I remember when all these guys were way too advanced for me" XD
I didn't join the game until 2010. I didn't know there was an old Tortuga and Port Royal. What were they like before?

I cliff dive on RC now.

I miss my old Galleon. The new model/texture/whateveritwas isn't as good.

titanic95594 03-24-2011 03:10 AM

I think they said they took away the islands because of computers that are less powerful. But hey that is on the players end not the game!

Tiberius Fireskull 03-24-2011 03:15 AM

I don't think that that is the true reason. If I remember correctly, their reason for changing Port Royal was because: The hill to get to Fort Charles was inconvenient (but now you have to go through the door and up the path and up the stairs. Takes even longer to get into the actual fort now...), they wanted a more realistic layout, and some other reasons. I suppose they changed the other islands simply because if they change one, might as well change the rest. I actually don't object to them changing the old islands. At the time, it seemed like a swell idea. Change is good. Although now that time has passed, I do miss the islands. I don't think it was a bad idea for them to be changed though. As said before, it would be nice if they put in new islands with the same template. The old islands were completely different from the new ones. The only thing that is similar is the architecture of the buildings.

SEAKING23 03-24-2011 03:27 AM

I just think that the navy and EITC should have patrols through out there islands, to enforce their power.

This kinda fits with the Patrol thing. Oh and I've noticed that invasions are pointless. why would Jolly destroy one building/set of walls when he could burn the whole island and take it over? i think he should burn the town and set patrols through out the island.

ThaBalla 03-26-2011 08:40 AM

i miss the old islands too, im glad they at least brought back the music from them a while back, but they should at least have a server or two that ppl can go to the old islands on. I also really miss the coin flip emote!!!!! :/ Sometimes newer isnt always better.

Hookshot 03-26-2011 09:18 AM

I miss all of the 2007 stuff. Just brings back really good memories. Not only of just the game, but actual things that happened in that time. Just feels good.

Solomon O 03-26-2011 10:05 AM

Do you guys remember when navy cadets use to roam the streets of (Old) Port Royal? I wish they would add back the old islands again. Or atleast add some navy patrolling the streets. It wont add too much lag.

richfireskull 03-26-2011 03:05 PM

You reminded me of how great it was lol and I miss the roaming cadets... they died by the blade on my rusty cutlass as I was basic at the time

trenthw 04-07-2011 02:53 AM

I remember all the old islands and the stress of trying to sail to Padres in my little light sloop and not get sunk in one shot
