Have you ever reported someone in game?
 

The "Noob" thread got me thinking. Have you ever reported someone in game? Or do you mostly just use the "ignore" function?

No naming the people you reported please, just stories.

For myself, I've reported someone once. I was on as my character Shalini Rose O'Brien, and I was with my husband's character, Conall Finn O'Brien. We were in El Sudoron, and suddenly this level 5 shows up and starts hitting on my husband. We both informed her we were married (even our pirate names showed that, as our characters look nothing alike) and she kept on hitting on him telling him to divorce me (right in front of my face I might add) and then told him to kiss her and called him a chicken if he didn't. Well she said worse stuff that I can't post here and kept on following him until we both reported her. Not a second later she teleported out or was taken out or something.

Well.... First of all you have a "husband" in game? That could be part of the issue. Keep in mind this is a family-based game, not so much of a dating site, aye? I usually just use the "ignore" function. Reporting does not do anything. The only players I ignore are people who are just jealous and try to make up stories about me.

She said husbands character. Besides, what are the chances that you find someone in game with the same last name and you "marry" them?

I just report anyone who gets annoying, so i reported a lot of people in the year i've been playing.

Well i've reported someone but I was bout to today but couldn't PVP game ended. This guy got mad at me because I was using the Voodoo Doll as my waepon. so he called me a bad word im not allowed to say. This game is rated E10+ he shouldn't be saying the word he said just because i killed him in PVP. He should never use that word actually

She said her husband's character, so she meant her real life husband. Just wanted to clarify that. Now, onto what happened. I've had to report a few players. I never like doing it, but it is necessary sometimes. The girl that was bothering you probably was just one of those little kids that goes around game looking for a boyfriend or husband. I honestly don't hate people like that, but I highly frown upon it. She probably thought that you were just a couple in game, and didn't realize that you were actually married. Either way, she was very immature, but these kind of people are unfortunately in the game. Sorry to hear that this happened to you Shalini.

Well I must say, that lvl 5 person that harassed you is probably 7-10 years old. (That or she really is a major jerk :pirate1:)

I have reported 2 people before, it wasn't just me they were pestering, but everyone around me. People like that are the ones I hope never to meet in real life. (And believe me, I have)

We did tell her we were married in real life, and she didn't get it. :/ She had Open Chat too.

I was AFK on Port Royal once not long ago, having gotten a phone call I was sitting at the computer while talking and noticed a small group of players standing on the docks using HIGHLY inappropriate language (one was speed chat, the other wasn't, and there were several of both chat types standing around watching the 'fight'). I got off the phone and just sat there with my jaw on the floor, it was insane how...*ahem*..."non-Disney" the chat was getting. The language was a combo of what people use to substitute bad words in-game, and the open chat player simply typing out the word letter-by-letter (I don't think he realized the speed-chat kid couldn't see it). I let this go on for several minutes before reporting them as I wanted a nice, ban-worthy chat log for the mods to see.

I'm not going to sugar-coat it, I've used the report feature more times than I care to admit...I try to have a little faith and patience with the other players of the game...and I typically try to let things go because of age range and what have you. But when it gets to me thinking 'What if my child were playing the game and kept seeing this stuff' it just kind of gets on my nerves.

No offense taken. I do play with my real life husband as it gives us something that we both enjoy to do together. In this case the characters are also on another game we play. Haha we spent an hour this afternoon killing each other for infamy. :P

The lvl 5 was indeed 8+. I personally dont remember reporting someone, but yeah these 'fights' do happen, nearly everyday. Oh wait i do remember some. i myself get involved in these fights, but i dont use bad words. usually i try to stop them, helped by some pirates, but either fail to stop them or get involved too. -_-. The biggest fight i saw was people arguing about countries. i tried to stop them, but they then started to insult me instead. i dont know how but my country got involved too and they knew i live in it. the big fight only stopped when we reported the main fighter. i guess i might have also been reported. I hate those fights, well, not really. ^_^, i love to see them fighting and sometimes get involved too as i said. its fun. oh well nono, just to mean these things are bad.

Ive reported ALOT of people. If they dont respect that this is a DISNEY game then they really should not be playing it. Also :laughks2:

i have reported many that i find cheating within or going against Disney Code.

I have never reported anyone, mainly because people are always nice to me.

I've only had to report a few. I never really liked it, and I never hang out on Abassa.

Only once. The player was saying some very racial slurs and whatnot. This was a long time ago.

I've reported someone before who was constantly saying bad words in PVP. Plus, i'm super sorry that that happened to you, Rose. I also play with my sister alot and it happens to us sometimes.

Does anyone think POTCO is losing is family based stuff becuase of this?

I wouldn't say that its their fault. I mean, they have loads of players (I won't bother to throw out numbers) join every day. They can't go into each person's record, check school grades or jobs, and say "okay, they're good. The best they can do is try to ban the people that do bad things in game. Its hard to do what they do, and they can't filter out everyone.

I do believe I had to report someone for something recently. I think that they cursed using a slightly warped version so that they weren't saying the actual word. I hope POTCO has things that pick up on the warped versions as well as the actual curse words. Helps to keep the chat clean.

POTCO has no bad chat filters like free realms.
In freerealms, you can get through the char by saying your from another country, and then you can say cuss words just by adding or leaving out letters.
It got so bad one time, one of their " refs" or as we call them " GM's ". Had to get onto chat and ask people to stop doing that because they had a bad chat filter. just be glad POTCO isn't international like FreeRealms.

Sadly I have! I remember when I was hmm... level 25 and at that point I didn't care much about guides. I was in my friend's tribe (I do not know the "friend" in real life) and the next day I left it to make my own. I had left my friend's tribe many times before and no one told me anything. When my friend logged into POTCO he started going on about leaving the guide. So I told him I want to be back in his. And then he ignored me. I went to his server and found him. And then he said a swear word at me so I reported him. Anyways when I was walking away sad, we ran into each other. We stopped and looked at each other. Then I said "I'm sorry, will you forgive me?" and he replied ":) Sure, I am sorry for being mean to you!". And that is the end. He never got banned or kicked or anything like that.

For myself-No. It's a game & I am a toon so I either "ignore" or tp away. But, for my friends & guild mates-YES! The reason is simple-one never knows who is behind a toon in game. Words can be a mighty weapon & can hurt someone that is fragile in one way or another. We are all keepers of our own house-so to speak. Disney can't in reality oversee all the millions that play the game. So, I believe we must watch each other backs especially with the thought that there are young ones playing the game. Just my two cents worth-hope it makes sense.

I nearly reported a guy for calling me a noob. I read it saying that it would ban me if it wasnt for a good reason, so I didnt. This was a LONG time ago. Just about the birth of the word Noob.

It was during the last muertos moon and we was having very much fun but out of no where these people where using the Invinicble glitch * also known as the God GLitch * which i do not like to use that name for it but u prolly could tell why lol anyway that was the first time i ever had to report anyone.:skull: :skull: :skull:

I reported one person. He called someone a "Dip Wit" and then said this. He did not say a swear word, he just said * symbul. The guy i reported did: I was like oh ****. That kinda got me over the edge. He did lots of other things, but all i will list is those two.

What gets me is that the word 'noob' is in the chat dictionary at all.

I don't report I just watch... this game/tv show is my favorite online tv show...The Young and the Questless. :D

I've reported quite a few over the years, mostly for griefing other players, using racial slurs, cursing, or other inappropriate behavior. I recall when moderaters used to come directly into the game and deal with some of these situations. Never could understand WHY Disney hasn't been banning IP accounts for some of the more troublesome griefers and trolls as this would eliminate their multiple accounts. Over the past couple years the game seems to be going mostly unmoderated or so it would appear as reporting doesn't seem to do any good lately.

Now they do that.

In the past, they rarely took any "immediate" action.

Disney's support team has improved a bunch ever since 09.

I dont report ppl..... i usaully just try to annoy them as much as they annoy me but it was this one time this random new girl in my guild kept teleporting to me, dieing, and yelling demanding for help i told my gm about this girl. Soon after she got booted..... and idk how but she kept teleporting after and she wasnt in my crew or friends list at all! so i finally put her on ignore and me and another guildy who was with me reported.

If she was in your guild she was probably using the guild List box to teleport to you or others in guild. One reason why you need to be very careful regarding who you invite into your guilds.

You have to report people in Online games... when they give you a user-friendly UI to do so.

Pirates Online has such a UI.

Therefore, you should be using it if people are breaking the rules or harassing you.

I have had to report a few times. Sometimes, the same person more than once. All due to the nasty attitudes and trying to put down others by mean insults. Sometimes drama that goes to far where it ends up into fights of serious insults.

I think the ban system needs to be changed. Now you get banned for saying a website name even if its a forum website based on POTCO. They need to revise the system of reported players. I have seen a really, really nasty talking player who wend as far as the "F" and not get banned. I don't know how it works anymore but i think it was way better in the early days. Now it's more likely to get banned for some childish reason than a serious bad cause.

Oh, these kinds of behavior problems barely existed in the previous generations 07-08.

Society is demanding children to behave this way; also from what ' icon ' they look up too.

That, and peer pressure to behave ' all mean and bad ', whatever the ignorant term is.

I didn't say unfiltered, I said unmoderated. There is a vast difference between a robotic filter censoring chat and real moderaters coming into game when situations call for it.

I agree that it was better in tthe early days when Moderaters actually came into game and deal with these people while the situation was still in progress. I believe that the report system was much better then. However in the old days the filter system was absolutely horrible and much of normal harmless conversation was blocked. That system seems improved allthough it can still be abused.


I can't agree with you that these behavior problems didn't exist back in 07-08 I remember that era in POTCO very well and the majority of my reporting happened back then. I remember groups of griefer guilds from back then going around game acting like little street gangs. At least back then reporting seemed to get a response from moderaters.

I have reported speed glitchers on SvS. They would come in and gather the bounty and then port it all. I did enjoy sinking them ( how bad at a game do you have to be to cheat and get sunk lol ) but they really annoyed me. You used to be able to see chat from the other Capt. so when they would broadside you could see the name of the glitcher and report him. I'm sure others used it for other reasons and big D removed it from game so now its harder to report. Cheaters/hackers always get the ban stick if I can.

I find the chat filter a big failure. It filters some stuff that has no connection to being negative. And the worst of it is that it doesn't tell you that it was filtered. You're message just doesn't go to your friend or guild and all you think is that it did. I am not against chat filter but it should tell you when your chat doesn't go through.

As for drama, it's pretty normal since the early days of the game. If anything it's less drama because back then, people took competition more seriously.

I do think there should be a hacker or cheater report option. I have seen people using cheat engine or what ever program to speed before but there is no option to report them with.

I never report someone but the thing is, I hate to report someone. Last time I did, which i was fighting Foul and this group of people come crashing other people that were going to jail. I reported them and they said "I was kidding, please don't, I will report you if you do." But I never saw him again. Then I was sailing one day and this one level 12 came and said can I please steer your ship captain. I said no, and he spammed my chat box for not letting me steer. And I said, "Look, if I said no it means no! It does not mean 'Spam my chat box' and I ignored him. But I don't hate the people that crashes you. I hate the people that spams everything and that asks if they can steer.

Once I was on a public ship with a new pirate I just made, and one Level 20ish guy kept whispering to me in caps, that what am I doing on a public ship with a Level 1 pirate, that I should first level my pirate up before coming on a public ship. I didn't whisper anything back, and he said "Answer me, or I'll run you through with my rare sword of Triton." Jeez... I reported him immediately.

I recently found out that, God knows why, that Phoenix is filtered, or at least the Pho in it. I discovered that the name of one of my ships, Shadow Phoenix, was filtered. For a while I just thought that the name was filtered (Believe me, I sent an angry email alright). Later the name of my friend's ship was filtered when he tried to say it to me. When I told him to break the word of it being filtered into separate parts I got "e" and "nix". The "Pho" was missing.

Why would they filter that? I have no idea at all. While a few of their filters are legitimate, I'd say only about 10-15% of filters are actually helpful, and the rest are unnecessary and extremely irritating. While I can bear with the bugs, crashes, and glitches in POTCO, I cannot bear with things relating to socialization. That is one of the main reasons I play the game, and the fact that it is being harmed by random and useless filters that don't even filter all swear words (I've seen people take out a single letter of a curse word and it goes through just fine) infuriates me. I have sent numerous emails regarding these filters and they have been met with those generic responses. I really don't even understand how they put some of these random words in the filter list. If its because "It can be used inappropriately" then they may as well remove chat as a whole because pretty much anything can be used in some inappropriate way.

I support POTCO on a lot of things, but this chat filter is not one of them. In my opinion, they should remove all filters except for swear words and ones that can DIRECTLY be used inappropriately, and then just improve their reporting system so that people who find other ways around it can get banned.

More or less back on the topic of the original post, I have had to report various people. Unfortunately, as of late, few of them as far as I know have gotten banned. I have met truly horrible people, reported them with some good chat evidence, and yet I see them around the next day. I have even spoken to live chat about people and that doesn't always work. I don't always really bother reporting anymore and I'll instead just ignore or leave because I know it never works. I have started only reporting if it's serious.

I have a story to share. As you can probably tell, being unlimited access means noobs try to ask you to buy them a game card. WHY do people do this??? I got fed up with a particular friend of mine (lvl 50 he was) and defriended him. Well, the other day, I ran into him by coincidence, and in the process while chatting to a friend of mine about him, he told me, in quote, "You're now reported so enjoy for saying bad things about me." I never DID a single thing wrong to him, yet he thinks he can report me? I hope HE gets reported for false reporting AND reported for mean behavior. I personally will not do it bc I don't believe in grudges. And if I saw him again, I could easily tell him, "Grow up.", like I had already said to him.

I've reported people before, not many, but I can't remember.:sadmh9: I didn't report these guys for this, but I was in jail, there were some AFK people, and I and two other goons were awake, one goon screamed EVERYONE GET OUT OF THIS PRISON OR I'LL REPORT YOU! But he would only not report the other goon. He was like, level 27 or something or your average ' Annoying noob ' not ' New noob ' or ' New annoying noob ' That wasn't fair to the AFK people. It really wasn't. But I thought he would have the reporting go straight back to him. So I was :piratear:



I like doing this in Kings Arm with some buds :buds: but some people came in, screamed they owned the place, and told everyone to get out. I'm fine with immaturity like your playing tag when your 20 years old, or you like using the Fart Potions. But not when you think you own the world when it's obvious you don't.

I think Guild Wars are fun, but not when people go about Abassa Tortuga bragginng about their rank, like the EITC ordering their lv 20 voluntary slaves to point guns at every pirate they see and ' Arrest them ' When the pirates can just walk away. Had a lot of problems with weirdos that don't understand that this is A DISNEY GAME! Not a TAKE OVER THE WORLD GAME! This is what your supposed to do.:pirate2wn0: Not yell at everyone.

I don't recall ever reporting anyone. I usually exasperate the annoying people by saying things like " Yeah, and what's yer point?" to their insults (works all the time). I personally am immune to cursing due to the fact that I've run into people with the most profane tongues in the world, but I also realize that there are others who shouldn't be getting the profanities. I also don't care about the EITC guilds and the other role-players. It seems stupid to me, but if others don't, that's their business, not mine.

I have. So, I was at an invasion before I was mastered. I was taking down brigades, minding my own business, when a level 20 says to everyone when Jolly Roger comes, "IF ANYONE ATTACKS JOLLY ILL REPORT". Naturally, I didn't really care, and neither did anyone else so we all just attacked. Then, the pirate, frustrated, said, "OK ILL BE GENEROUS I WONT REPORT BUT IF ANYONE BUT ME GETS THE LAST HIT EVERYONE IS BEING REPORTED". Again, nobody really cared and he didn't end up getting the last hit. At the end, he got really angry and said, "IVE GOT LOTS OF REPORTING TO DO". Well, while he was supposedly "reporting" us, I was reporting HIM. Honestly, invasions are supposed to make teamwork, not a solo defense.

Great topic Guys and Gals, when it comes to Reporting ; There's no doubt I done my fair share... Top of my list for using the Report Button always has and always will remain those PvP Glitching pirates who tend to amass at various times on Tortuga Beach on Abassa. (short pause for the collective groan from those who take any pride in the PvP Glitch)

Now, I don't report those who are obviously having a little fun with their friends and Guild Mates, killing and reviving each other, no... It's the pirates who single out and Target the Low Level pirates landing there to work on those early quests, they see them, they kill them, then they go right ahead and do another Glitch, a Tonic Glitch which sees the poor low level pirate Crash!

So in a nutshell, it's those (mostly Master pirates) who Bully and Torment the newer pirates (not necessarily newer players) and cause them the grief of then having to restart the game! Really makes my blood boil and ALWAYS results in an instant report.

As for other Glitches, I myself partake in quite a few, including the dreaded Muertos Moon God Glitch (awaits collective gasp)... Before passing judgement on that, allow me to explain ; I don't partake in the Muertos Moon, I just see no point personally in it, usually I try to continue with my Looting or Questing, to which I really don't enjoy the inconvenience of other players who take the event FAR too serious and cannot leave a pirate to mind their own business.

My first year, I spent spent every Muertos Moon kicking down the Jail Cell door and trudging back to where I needed to be for the quest I was working on, which can be a considerable chore when the quest could be all but over and every time you exit the jail some Master Pirate camped right outside (still undead) decides to send you right back in!

So now I just put myself in God Glitch and continue to go about my questing or looting until the Moon is over.

Other Glitches I use from time to time are the every popular Swift Foot Glitch, saves SO MUCH time getting from place to place, a shortcut to General Darkheart which again is to save time, a little sliding along the Edge (usually when I'm too tired to really be Sailing and all my friends online are begging for a Material Run (which when I'm NOT too tired I can do the honest way).

Anyway, personally, I know many here will disagree, but if a pirate isn't hurting anyone else, I don't mind them Glitching.

Feel free to vent on me if you see fit, it really doesn't bother me, I've had TONS of people report me for doing any of the glitches metioned above, I think in some ways Disney aren't too fussed with the Glitches which don't hurt other pirates, but still frown upon there use. (at least from the Report feedback I've received)
