Minecraft

So, I'm thinking about getting this game along with a few of my friends, and I just wanted to know if anyone on here plays this

Captain Del 03-06-2011 07:38 PM

I tried it out once, and I must say that it is very fun, and strangely addicting. The only thing that you'd need to play this game is patience, but even large scale workings don't take that long.

Oh, and also, you might want to be careful with th- oh, you'll find out ;)

Mr. Skiperdoo 03-06-2011 07:44 PM

I've never played the game myself, but one of my friends has it, and... I think I may know what Del is talking about. (Things trying to eat you in the night)

SEAKING23 03-06-2011 08:46 PM

How much does it cost?

I've heard you can get it off a website for free :)

that would be the creative version which is the free version
the other one is the one normal that cost i think $19.99

Ropeburn 03-06-2011 09:09 PM

Lol you should get it.. it really is addicting. But watch out for the creepers... o.o

Roger Sharkshot 03-06-2011 10:11 PM

Nice way to put it, Del. I'm sure you wouldn't mind revealing that SSSSSSSSecret, right? :D

Yes, Minecraft is good. Obviously as the Del said, you need patience. It's worth it, in my opinion. The worlds are actually endless, and so are the possibilities of what you can make.

JeffreyHookgrin 03-06-2011 11:11 PM

Yes, it is oddly addicting. I love the survival aspect of the beta version. My son runs the beta server on his computer allowing the other computers on the home network to log into our own private server where we can play together, or you can open it up and allow friends to join you, or you can play on other servers that other players are running. (There are no formal centralized company run game servers like potco has). My son likes to seek out mods for the game, but be carefull, he picked up a nasty trojan in the process. The company is in Europe so you will need a pay pal account to pay for a license that allows you to log into the game (that's for the beta, the creative version I believe is free, but all you can do with it is build stuff)

Roger Sharkshot 03-06-2011 11:13 PM

Does it take a lot of memory if it doesn't I'm going to download the free one

What is the difference between the beta and the free

pieisbetter2 03-06-2011 11:43 PM

The beta is basically the game, because the actual game is not out yet, but if you buy the beta, you get the full game when it comes out. The free you play from the Minecraft website and there isn't a whole lot you can do. There are some online servers, but in the offline mode, it get's kinda boring :/

Roger Sharkshot 03-07-2011 12:33 AM

So how much is the beta as in american money

Swash 03-07-2011 10:15 PM

It's $20 until the full version comes out, then it will be $25. Also I bought the game and made my own server. The server was actually pretty easy to make, and very reliable. I watched some videos, and I can't wait until I start mining Obsidian and make a SPOILERS to the SPOILERS. :D

Roger Sharkshot 03-07-2011 10:56 PM

Yeah gonna buy it and theres a discount going on so good for me

Swash 04-22-2011 06:58 AM

Full version comes out 11/11/11 for all who didn't here. Btw me and a couple of my friends have our own server, but I don't think I'm allowed to post the IP here on POF so just PM you and I'll send you the IP to get in the server. Tomorrow the server map is going to change btw, and its either going to be Farmcraft or Survival Island whichever seems funner but I think Farmcraft looks pretty good so I'm probably changing the map to that.

Captain Sharktooth 04-22-2011 08:02 AM

I tried it, but didn't like it. Maybe I just didn't get far enough but this game isn't for me... xD

Tom Sharkwash 04-22-2011 02:46 PM

I have this game and it is really fun! I always end up rage quitting when I die because I normally have a bunch of diamonds and redstone.

Haha love this game especially since I joined this awesome project some of you might know the hunger games series well there is this group of people including me who are making a server and its going to be awesome here is the link http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewto...=1025&t=196632 oh and I'm MC rocks on the minecraft forums

muffin pirate 04-26-2011 05:14 AM

Swash, can ye send the IP address please? LoL. CreeperssSSssSSSSSSssss can't get me in my awesome floating-water base!

Robert Ironcastle 05-02-2011 03:19 PM

Buy it.Oh and watch out for creepersssssssssss. And can ye PM me the IP pls? Thanks

Swash 05-07-2011 05:56 AM

So far no one from POF has joined my server lol. Probably because of it's random schedule. I try to keep my server up from 4-10 weekdays EST and 12 p.m-12 a.m weekends EST. Sometimes though im performing maintenance, getting a new mod etc. so the schedule is not written in stone.

Btw I recently upgraded the server so it now uses Bukkit, a popular server mod. What that means for you is now you can level up 1 of 3 different classes Mage, Archer, or Warrior, we also have an Economy mod and a shop mod, but no shops.....yet!

Current Building projects are:
Port
City
4-6 ships ( So far we have 2 )

Right now the server has a Tower, a Main house, 2 ships, 2 sky houses, 3 military checkpoints, and a crater where someone got "happy" with TNT.

Tom Sharkwash 05-09-2011 02:45 AM

I'll try and join you over the summer, but right now I am very busy with school.

FightingExecutioner 05-09-2011 03:40 AM

I have the game and it is fun having to find and tame wolves to help you in aid from getting kamikazied by a Creeper. I am already planning on making two vessels from POTCO, a War Frigate and Queen Anne's Revenge.

muffin pirate 05-09-2011 04:07 AM

Me too. How many are on the server?

Swash 05-09-2011 04:08 AM

We got more plugins for the server everyone. We now use a Nether mod, Shops, Economy, Jobs ( currently broken, but I'm working to fix it ), Weather mod ( only for ops ), and a Wool spawning mod.

We have 3 towns: The Port town ( a dock, 2 ships, 3 shops, a fort, a church, 1 house, and more in construction, Cloud city ( tower that goes to the clouds, 3 houses, 1 resteraunt, 2 shops, and a secret secret place hidden under 1 of the buildings), and Old town ( The original house we built for the server, a bank ( unopperational ), 1 shop, 3 houses, and 1 railroad that stretches 2 km long. Also there are 2 bridges that connect Old town and Cloud city.

Hopefully I'll put screenshots up soon :)

I'd say about 10 people frequent the server. It's not a public server, just a server for me and anyone that knows me that wants to join. If anyone wants to join just ask and ill pm you the IP.

Maximvs 05-10-2011 03:44 PM

I've been playing this since way back in alpha, and its a very addicting game... :)

Captain Seaford 06-24-2011 12:55 AM

I have it, and trust me, it is very addicting. Other games "got their idea from Minecraft", like FortressCraft and not-so-much Terraria. I play it a lot, and it's very easy to mod. There are mods other people make for it which make it better (I think). No, there is no way to get it for free because you must have a premium account to play Beta. If you can get your hands on a premium account, then yes, it will be free for you. If you can't afford it, you can always play Classic which revolves more around building than surviving.

Swash 06-24-2011 04:07 AM

Who else here can't wait for Beta 1.7? Pistons, a new mob, and better combat. I don't know about anyone else, but I can think of several great uses for pistons. On a side note has anyone noticed that the Minecraft Forums and the Wiki have been down since yesterday?

I recently bought the game(two weeks ago) and I really enjoy it. I'm looking forward to this new update as much as anyone else. Did you also see that Notch posted about Ravines being an addition with the update?

They're like mines we already have only they look extremely different. It's going to make mining really deep down a lot of fun.

P.S. Yeah, I noticed it's been down for a while. Since I'm new to the game I've been using it as a resource but since it's been down I've been on my own. I should be kept busy for the next few days with Obsidian, because I've found an area where it looks like there are at least a hundred blocks.

I've got a somewhat Obsidian farm. All I did was start digging (was searching for Diamonds actually) and eventually I came to a huge pit of lava. I got a couple buckets full, brought it up to the surface, and made a little pool of it. You can use anything but wood or wool. Make a box shape with four blocks on each side, or if you're cheap like me, only two on each side. From there, pour one bucket of lava into one corner, and then another on the opposite side, and then the same with the other corners. Then, go fill one of the empty buckets with water. come back to your pool of lava, and this part is important. DON'T POUR DIRECTLY ON THE LAVA. That'll only give you Cobblestone. Pour it on whatever is keeping your lava together. After it flows over and creates the obsidian, scoop the water back up, mine the obsidian, and repeat. I was able to make a portal, and for those of you who have been to The Nether, you know that there is PLENTY of lava. So now I go through that portal, which happens to be next to the Obsidian farm. And lucky for me, there's a pool of water right next to it.

I can always post screenshots if you're confused and not quite sure.

I don't have the patience to make anything huge, really. Lol. Possibly the biggest thing I've made is my mob killer. It's not one of those huge underground ones though, but it gives me a decent amount of items.

Yeah I feel you I never really liked mob killers though hey does anybody use any mods here I use a few

pieisbetter2 06-25-2011 12:11 AM

The version I use is sorta an unlicensed copy :P My friend basically put the game in a zip file, so it's the whole game, minus the SMP. It also means I can't use mods.

I use TooManyItems, Zombes Modpack, Single Player Commands, Optimine, Modloader, ModloaderMP, MultiplayerList, Piston mod, and IndustrialCraft.

Also is anyone here building anything big on their Single/Multiplayer. I just finished building a Castle with Cannons, Archers ( Dispensers ), and a Town inside. Now I'm working on a Giant Underground Missle Silo with a missle inside of it filled with TNT, Screenshots coming soon!. After that I'll be looking for inspiration for something else to build. If anyone has any ideas for something big for me to make I'd really appreciate it.

And do any of you guys know about the hunger games series cause I'm part of a server were were making an arena and were almost finished and were gonna look for contestants soon. Anyways I'm an admin on that server I would give you the link but the forums are down till saturady (stupid curse). :laughks2: :degen:

nope you can't play with enemies without paying but its defiantly worth paying the servers the mods and skins and texture packs are all worth paying for and its better to buy it now before it get more expensive cause its gonna keep getting more expensive as it reaches the release date. Its a one time payment. And you can play with your friends but it has to be on a classic server.

It doesn't look worth paying for. Darn. :P I'll stick to pirates :D

Swash 06-25-2011 01:28 AM

Missle Silo is going pretty well, I used SSP Commands to make a 1 block high cylinder and now I'm using World Edit to get rid of the blocks inside of the cylinder. Next I'll make the missle.

pieisbetter2 06-25-2011 02:28 AM

I just went in search for mines/dungeons. Found 34 blocks of Iron, but nothing else really special :/

pieisbetter2 06-25-2011 02:31 AM

I was looking for maybe Redstone or Diamond. Just found a bunch of Iron.

Swash 06-25-2011 03:42 AM

Missle and Silo complete, I might add some more features to the stucture though, such as a observation room, and a lab. Screenshots coming soon of my Castle, and the Silo. Also my next building idea is an Observatory. If anyone has a better idea for something for me to build either post it here or pm me.

I could help you if you have a Mac. Also you probably would want a great computer to run a server because if you don't and you try to run one, your server will lag beyond comprehension. Or if you have the money there are some great server hosting websites out there. If you do have a great computer you will want to decide if you want a Bukkit server or a Basic server. Bukkit is a server mod that adds a variety of plugins that either make running a server easier, or just make the server more fun. Once you decide what kind of server you want you'll need the software and everything. For those steps you'll want a video tutorial on what do to.

Lol, no I didn't. But I do know my worlds seed if you want it. And Roger I can thaw the water, but now Notch has made it so water can freeze back even if it's not snowing. Also to everyone I'll have screenshots of my Castle, Missle Silo, and Observatory hopefully by the end of the night.

pieisbetter2 06-26-2011 01:18 AM

:O What's the seed?! I want a winter wonderland, OF DOOOOOM! >=D

Roger Sharkshot 06-26-2011 03:33 AM

Hey if the forums get back on look for a forum with a list of really cool seeds.

CarribeanThunder 06-26-2011 07:52 AM

Hmm, Swash, I might want to join that server. I would love to add some additions there.

we should make a server for potco ppl and for the forums wouldnt that be kinda cool

Tom Sharkwash 06-30-2011 04:55 PM

1.7 is out and its awesome!
Also I was reading something Notch said and he mentioned a new mob in 1.8...do you think this could mean Herobrine?

Swash 07-01-2011 01:17 AM

Just updated my flymod and Too many Items and then I find out that 1.7.02 is coming out tomorrow.

Ofury/ Tom 07-01-2011 02:35 AM

With the update does that mean you can you play with monsters for free?

Captain Sharktooth 07-01-2011 03:43 AM

Also the 1.8 update said NPC villages are coming.... that sounds awesome!

Anyone know if that would only be for multiplayer though?

Swash 07-01-2011 06:57 PM

So here's one of my creations made with Pistons. I made a bridge over lava that can be raised and lowered with a switch. Unfortunately I'm not good enough with redstone to actually make a switch on the other side lower and raise the bridge as well....

CarribeanThunder 07-01-2011 07:08 PM

Pretty neat, Swash. I could try and get the other-side lever to work.
Also, there was a multiplayer server you guys were talking about?

Dark_Pixie 07-01-2011 07:20 PM

Looks like a retro Tomb Raider game...

MacIronhawk 07-02-2011 01:46 AM

If you POF guys have a Minecraft server I'd gladly join. I've been looking for a good one for a while but so far none I've found have interested me.

Stephen O'Malley 07-02-2011 05:43 AM

I second what MacIronhawk said.

Oh, and I've also been having fun with pistons today on vanilla SSP. Lo and behold, the semi-automatic sugar cane farm:

MacIronhawk 07-03-2011 03:38 AM

^Good job with the semi-automatic sugar cane farm! I have a non automatic sugar cane farm which can produce about 100 every harvest but hand picking them can be a pain at times. I have it set up so that I could use pistons if I wanted. Maybe i'll do that later on.

Does anyone know where I could find cacti fast, within five minecraft days of traveling, if that's even possible? You see, my first world starts off in a winter biome, so the first map that I have is kind of surrounded by no deserts. If I wanted to go out searching for a desert, what might be my best bet at finding one? Just walk and get lucky?

An easy way of finding cactus would be to make a compass and start walking in a random direction until you find a desert biome. From there just look for cactus sitting around and break it and take it with you. When your done you just take the compass out and go back to your spawn. If that doesn't work you could always use an inventory editor....

I'll go with the compass plan. While inventory editors and mods can be fun, this first world I'm doing I want to be completely my own. Everything I've built was scavaged from the ground. So far, only about 42 Diamonds but I do have 130 obsidian that I'm collecting for an obsidian only tower.

Hey, I say we starting posting pictures of our houses and worlds. I'm put some up tomorrow. My buildings are small but I'm making a highway of paths to all the edges of the world. In other words, i'm moving very slowly along my world.

I'll try to get some photos of my world up tomorrow as well. Also my next building plan is to build an airfield with planes ( non-flyable ). Whenever Singleplayer Commands gets updated I'll start working on it.

Tom Sharkwash 07-03-2011 06:02 PM

Swash you should build it on the server so everyone can help with it :)

I'm going to build one on the server, and one on my single player. The single player one will be much bigger and have a lot more in it. Also I recently found out that my world is playable without Industrial Craft, so I could possibly upload the world and pm a download link to anyone who wishes to play on the world.

As promised I have my world seed and screenshots of my castle:

The outside of Swash Castle:

Castle Defenses:

Castle Town:

World Seed: 3787313802694808251
Spawn Coordinates: x:66, y:64, z:82

If you want the world file PM me and I will give you the download link.
Also I would've posted screenshots of my missle silo, but the missle was WAAAAYYY too big. So I have to destroy the missle and rebuild it in a smaller size. With Single Player commands this could've been done quickly, but it hasn't updated so I'm forced to destroy the thing manually. So whenever I finish the missle is when I'll post screenshots of the silo.

Are you using a texture pack, Swash?

Yes, it's called Toongrid texture pack. Most awesome texture pack ever!

I recently just took the semi-automatic farm to the extreme.

I can get up to 3072 pieces of sugar in a single flip of a switch.

Tom Sharkwash 07-04-2011 09:46 PM

Wow that is truly amazing! Can you put up the save?

Swash 07-04-2011 11:33 PM

Me and a friend on one of the servers I go on made a doorway using a lot of redstone, smooth stone, and 2 redstone repeaters. Here it is:

http://i468.photobucket.com/albums/r...-04_171840.png

Missile silo was completed by the way. I'm going to put up some pictures soon of it and the Observatory I made. Any last minute additions I should add to the silo before I post screenshots?

MacIronhawk 07-04-2011 11:46 PM

Semi-automatic farm I've been working on. I'm currently expanding it right now so it'll yield more but how do you guys go about making semi-automatic farms which can yield thousands so fast?
http://www.piratesonlineforums.com/g...1_22_28_06.png

Storage Tower, which happens to be extremely small to me now, considering it's ran out of storage space...
http://www.piratesonlineforums.com/g...8_16_02_49.png

And I just found out yesterday that you can actually farm obsidian. Diamonds have never really been hard to come by and while I only have about 62, I've always been interested in making a giant building full of obsidian. I guess I can do that now.

You can PM me for it if you'd like.

Hey Swash, can you PM me a server IP? I'd love to join you.

Do you have to continue plowing that or is it possible that because of the way you have it set up, you'll never have to worry about that?

You don't have to plow sugar cane (thus why I didn't make a wheat farm of that size).

I do believe I need to learn to read...

But whatever farm it is, it's very impressive.

Dog Gunmorgan 07-05-2011 02:16 AM

so.. would anyone be kind enough to buy the game for me? Haha just kidding.. I'm really wanting to buy it but I don't have money =/

pieisbetter2 07-05-2011 02:17 AM

Quick question: Anyone know where I can FIND sugar cane? I've been looking forever. Thanks in advance.

Captain Sharktooth 07-05-2011 05:17 AM

You get it from bamboo.

You can always play the classic version. It's free, except it's no longer supported and all you can do in it is build.

Bumping with pictures of my secret room hidden under my floor:

Oh look a random pool!
http://i468.photobucket.com/albums/r...-05_202903.png

A lever! I wonder what it does.
http://i468.photobucket.com/albums/r...-05_202915.png

A secret tunnel!
http://i468.photobucket.com/albums/r...-05_202925.png

Leads to my secret room!
http://i468.photobucket.com/albums/r...-05_202959.png

Was really hard to actually get the redstone working, and when I was digging out the secret room I dug into "someones" underground farm lol.

Anyway if anyone wants the map download, you better ask quick because I'm getting the better than wolves mod and Mo' Creatures so the map will be unplayable unless you have those mods.

WitchdoctorDan 07-07-2011 06:01 AM

I recently purchased the game (which I believe to be the crowning achievement for word-of-mouth advertising and indie games) and have begun a map using the seed "gargamel", which a friend recommended for its sheer awesomeness. He did not lie. I have built an entire underground system with about 4 mining projects, a 30-plot wheat farm, and a mountaintop castle complete with a tower to fire arrows from and 3-block high ramparts surrounding it. Not bad for my first day of playing. :P

(P.S.: Gargamel is a landscape with a lot of huge mountains and deep caves throughout. I spawned in what was essentially a hollow mountain with a two block entrance. It was so big, the game glitched and grew grass on the dirt inside of the cave.)

MacIronhawk 07-07-2011 06:39 AM

I didn't have any sort of seed to start my first world on because I want the first one to be completely legit.

I have a fully functioning semi-automatic wheat farm and a regular sugar cane farm. The only time I'll ever need it is for sugar and for making bookcases, so I didn't make it too big but once I have the wheat farm full it should be able to produce 128, which would make me very happy.

Has anyone attempted a cobblestone generator? I tried one with pistons today but once I realized pistons can't destroy cobblestone blocks(or any blocks for that matter) I decided to scratch it and make a semi-automatic one. Is there really a mod out there where it can destroy cobblestone so you can make a fully automatic generator?

P.S. How exactly do you make automatic generators? The best I've been able to do is a one way switch and pressure plate doors. How do you make something full automatic?(running all the time)

I'm not too upset about the pistons not breaking blocks but the whole idea behind it was to make it look like this big looking machine that produces its own materials.

MacIronhawk 07-09-2011 05:14 AM

Redstone Elevator which almost reaches the clouds. I'm leaving room for an area which I'll call the Boss Suit. Maybe it's cheesy sounding but it will serve as a tower that oversees the rest of the redstone powered machines.(and non-redstone-powered "machines")

The first working machine is an infinite cobblestone machine. If pistons could destroy other blocks, then I could make a completely automatic one but unfortunately Notch didn't make it that way.

I wish he would make pistons with the ability to destroy other blocks, providing they're made with Obsidian push plates rather than wood. That'd be cool.

There are several mods that add Obsidian pressure plates. Also you can make stone pressure plates if you have smooth stone.

^Those are sweet!

Also, I meant that we should have pistons made with obsidian in order for them to be able to destroy other blocks. Currently, pistons are made with four cobblestone, three wood, iron, and one redstone dust. I think an update should be made so that when you replace the wood push plate(the wood is that the piston uses to push other blocks) with obsidian, when an object is inbetween two obsidian pistons and the pistons are activated, the block inbetween the pistons is destroyed.

(don't know if that sentence came out very readable)

I'd just like pistons that can destroy other blocks so I could make a completely automatic cobblestone machine.

Oh, lol I thought you were referring to pressure plates when you said push plates so I didn't know. I do think the original piston mod has the ability to destroy blocks, but the feature should be in the vanilla game. Anyway maybe tomorrow I'll put up some more pictures of my pixel art. I'm currently waiting for Better than wolves mod to update, but until then I'm going to start a new world where I'll build the promised pirate ship and maybe a town or city.

Also after playing a few adventure maps, I'm thinking of making my own. Maybe a Fallout themed one or something.....

That would be really cool. Are adventure maps on servers that you join or do you have to access them some other way?

Anyways, here's a picture of an almost completed perimeter of the top of the tower I've been working on. It looks a bit weird so I did change it a bit so it looks more symmetrical.
http://www.piratesonlineforums.com/g...9_21_04_00.png

You know, I wish there was an option(a non-mod option) where you could turn off rain or snow. It really lags that game when you're around giant buildings you've built.

Adventure maps are just maps that you download and put in your saves folder to play like a map you've created. You can use them in both servers and singleplayer. And to your weather question, without mods there no way to turn off weather unless your on Beta 1.4.01 or earlier.

MacIronhawk 07-10-2011 06:35 AM

Ah, oh well, I guess I can put up with the rain then.

Also, I have some squid questions. I've had my first encounter with them today, a group of five. Because I've built a bridge to a tower, they're blocked off in this small lake area. Do squid die eventually, or would I be able to block them off in an aquarium area so I could see them any time I want without worry?

I'd kill them for ink but I plan on making an exhibit section of my world and they're in the perfect spot right now. If they don't die and I can block them off in a small aquarium, then this first world is set for an exhibit. I knew the hardest part would be squids so if I have them in an area where they'll live forever, then this makes my day.

I've looked around the net and no one has really answered this question. I know mobs and zombies die but I've never been sure about squids.
