Raid Night
Ever wondered what it'd be like to take the game from a different perspective? What would it be like if it was more challenging, requiring more strategy and skill? (And I don't mean a Guild Quest!) Would you be able to handle it? Well, now you can!
This Friday, I'm asking Pirates to dust off their other pirates, and get ready to try something.. well, different. By teaming with your fellow pirates, you will be met with challenges that, alone, would seem quite difficult and frustrating, but together, would end up as a great way to explore the game to it's fullest extent. You will be going on Raids!
Raids are "instances" (or "dungeons") in other games, where players will get together and attempt to wipe out a certain area, or complete a certain task, that is filled with enemies that are highly, or even grossly above their level. These raids, however, provide great rewards in return for their completion - excellent weaponry, money, and experience for all the players who completed it. And while we don't have actual instances in POTCO like they do in those games, we do have the ability to create one on our own - and theres always those great treasures that are waiting for us, too!
How I plan on doing this is leading a group of pirates in a certain level group to an area filled with enemies well over their level, and see if we can function well enough as a group to pull it off. After all, if we can do that, we can do anything, aye?
Here is the current Raids List, complete with level ranges and locations:
Levels 1 - 10 - Murky Hollow, Tortuga
Levels 11 - 26 - Kingshead
Levels 20 - 27 - Padres Del Fuego (Lava Gorge, Catacombs, Beckett's Quarry, El Suduron, and Las Pulgas)
Levels 28 - Level 39 - Isla Tormenta
Levels 32 - 42 - Raven's Cove (Rage Ghosts, Mines, and Cave of Lost Souls)
Only pirates within those level ranges can be played in those raids - sorry, our guild full of Mastered Pirates! You're gonna need to put those baby pirates back in to shape!
As you can tell, these raids are going to take a lot of organization on the part of the raiders - this comes in the roles, of roles. There are three main "Roles" when it comes to taking part in raids:
Healers - These players are designated soully for healing other players. They sometimes are permitted to attack enemies, but this is usually only to allow them to "tag" the enemy, so they can get some loot when it dies. Other than that, the fate of the group staying alive rests in their hands. They are responsible for healing, "buffing" players (casting spells on them to make them perform better,) and reviving others.
DPS - These players make up the majority of the players in the group. They are responsible for doing the majority of the damage to the enemy, while making sure that the enemy is not drawn to them. They are usually the members of the group that are able to do the most damage the quickest (I.E., DPS - Damage Per Second) but do not have enough health or "toughness" skills that would allow them to carry out the battle like our next role - the Tank.
Tank - The tank is the core fighter of the group. They are responsible for keeping the enemies on them, to make sure they do not kill the DPS, or worse, the healer. Contray to popular belief, they are NOT the "strongest" of the group, but simply the players that can stay alive the longest. They are first in to battle, and last to finish fighting.
Over the next few days leading up to raid night, it's up to you all to build out your pirates to make them fit one of these roles. Make sure that before you hit the ground running, however, you talk to those who will be taking part in the same raid as you. Having everybody show up with DPS builds, or having seven healers or seven tanks in a group of nine, will lead to disaster.
When organizing your group, remember that a 1:3:1 ratio is the best bet. This means for every 1 Healer, there are 3 DPS, and 1 Tank. So, in a group of 15 people, there would be 3 Healers, 9 DPS, and 3 Tanks, and so on.
As time moves on, and roles are decided, I'll detail more about which skills would be best for a role.
