The Crew at Pirates Online would like to begin this letter by thanking all Pirates who have stood their ground in the face of what has been a very trying week for everyone. We understand the horizon contains many adventures and yet you choose to sail with us and for that we will always be appreciative.

These challenges arose from improving our game servers to provide guests with faster and better hardware. Rollbacks and service interruptions are things we have little tolerance for on our LIVE servers. We test as much as we can to provide the best show possible but on occasion a storm of great magnitude strikes. Some of the hardest decisions need to be made during trying times.

Our systems were once again troubled on February 16, 2011 and once again we had to make tough choices. Resetting progress was necessary. We believe to have a handle on the situation and will continue to monitoring gameplay and data that comes in as thousands of Pirates log in by the hour.

Resolution:

For Unlimited Access Members, whether it is a recurring subscription, gift subscription or Game Card, we will be extending your access. An additional 14 days of time has already been added to your account. We understand this does not compensate the time you've spent customizing and looting. (More on that in a bit.)

Additionally, Basic and Unlimited Members, should redeem the code: golden

Consider this a small disbursement prior to our upcoming Double Gold Weekend which will coincide with our Mardi Gras celebration:

We hope with this early holiday announcement Pirates can find the time to replenish their gold coffers back to their rightful amounts in a fraction of the time.

This 'Rare' Cutlass has a Cursed Fire ability that lights the blade with a mystic flame and deals additional fire damage to the enemy. Although it may not replace what you lost, it does give you a strong and rare weapon to help get your Pirate back into the fight and on the battlefield to plunder for loot! This limited edition item was retired but we are bringing it back in this unique occasion.

The return of the Darkfire Cutlass.... I am happy we get 14 days, and a double gold weeked! This will be very useful for my lower level pirates :D

Well keep in mind it was once 7 days but now 14 days I think. Well at least they are being reasonable to us.

I asked for clarification on the total number of days. The way it reads now it is 14 additional days to the 7 previous days, though I believe their intent was for 14 days only. Hopefully we will see a response.

Either way, we are still getting extra unlimited access. Wow, they are really being quite responsible. Adding more onto our unlimited access, a code for some gold, AND the Darkfire Cutlass. Sure, Darkfire isn't all that great, but it at least shows that they will try to give us something. Hopefully this will be over now.

If you were a paid member affected by the first outage/reset, these 14 days are added to the previous 7 for a total of 21 days.

I had to log out quickly last night, after seeing that my pirate the Baron had YET AGAIN gone from a level 48 back to 47, and his sailing, cannons go from mastered to 28. PLUS, the hated grenades that was mastered for the second time, go back to the beginning of 29! I figured I better log out or end up saying a few words that would most probably get me banned.

The extra days on the account is nice, but I have no use for the double gold. It would have been much better to have at least 5 days of double rep. As it stands now, I will not be using the Baron anytime soon, I've lost all desire to waste anymore time mastering his weapons for a third time. I figure I'll use one of my fully mastered pirates, and just stand around and not do anything... I think its safer this way for now.

This keeps up, and I don't think I'll waste my $80 when my subscription comes due in the fall!!

I think this might have been the last reset. They did do a good job informing us and with the latest additions. All you who complain and are mad at Disney, get it in you head thats it's just a game that you play and pay by choice. Also think how you would be feeling if you were on the developers positions. All i can say ATM is thank you Disney fro bringing game back and hopefully they really did upgrade to reduce lag...

I think anyone who has PAID for UA (and to an extent basics as well) have the right to feel and express the frustrations with how things occurred. They paid for a service with the expectation that it would run properly, it didn't & players lost out on their time & effort they put into it. I realize POTCO is now doing their best to rectify that situation but that doesn't mean people who HAVE PAID are not valid in their complaints.

I am not saying players shouldn't be completely passive in their emotions about this but i have heard and seen some cursing and trashing Disney with words. Aww, i thought when they said (unlimited and basic) it meant both can use it. In this case then it's pointless. Talk to them in live chat or something and give them suggestions.

You are correct in that people have a choice in whether or not to purchase UA access but ONCE that service is PURCHASED I think its a reasonable expectation that service is working properly & within satisfaction. If it isn't then they should be able to voice their dissatisfaction. Your assertion that because the customer chose to pay makes it appear the customer is the one at fault, which is certainly far from the case.

Let me put it this way: You go to the market and pick out a nice juicy Red Delicious Apple from the cart to have for a snack that day. You go up to the counter with the smiling clerk and make your purchase. When you get home and slice it open you discover the inside is mostly brown and rotten—hardly an appetizing snack and certainly not what you expected, right? but as you said you weren't forced to buy an apple heck you didn't even have to pick that particular apple from the cart.

Again, I understand That POTCO is trying to rectify the situation as they see fit, however its up to the individual paying customer to decide whether that paid time is of equal value to the unrecoverable played time.

Yea...while they're trying to make amends, 500 gold really isn't so much...5k would've been better...heck you could spend that 500 just on a shirt...

Likewise for the sword...yea sure it's a 'RARE' sword, but a weak one at best...they could've given a far better sword...

And it's nice that they're letting us know about the rep weekend...that comes up in MARCH while we're still in FEB...maybe a double gold/rep weekend while in FEB would've been more prudent...

But hey, at least they're trying...

So... no POTCO 'til March! I don't want a server reset to cramp my enjoyment. I'll just bump Xbox Live and POTBS until then. (I just got a van Hoorn on my baby Navy account, so I'm a bit sucked in ATM)

No, but in all sincereity, I'm glad that Dinsey is giving what it is to us. They could just say,

"Hey guys, the game needs to be reset. So, you're all going to be setback a few weeks. Sincerely, POTCO Staff."

Would I appreciate 5000 gold? Yes, but 500 gold is better than someone just flatout saying, you're going to losing progress.

Hopefully, this resolved soon, and in time for an infamy update.

Until then, I'll have to join Witchdawkta Dan and take the Coward's Way Out.

Blimey, a cool sword that I can't use because I'm basic... Thanks for nothing! I may not be sending POTCO money, but I have gotten many new pirates on the seas and some of them pay. I think it is disrespectful that they only reword the Unlimited mates and leave us poor pirates for the sharks...
I was thinking of paying once I was maxed out on basic, but after working on the same quests for the 3'rd time and then only getting a tease for compensation... I don't know if I want to be sailing with Pirates anymore?

500 Gold... Not accepted. i made 3-4 K in the week (man i am only 21, and my cutlass lvls are going down instead of high, everytime i make it to ninteen it goes back to seventeen).. A darkfire cutlass? we deserve a seafang cutlass. darkfire's power is just too low.:sadmh9:
