Shining some light on the POTC Maintenance

Okay. Well you guys are wondering why all the Maintenance and glitches and stuff
well Its because of Infamy. But this is where all the glitches come into play.
Whenever theres a major updates (Ravens Cove) there are glitches.
One of the glitches is the dreaded level zero glitch. The reason POTC keeps resetting the servers is to try and kill the glitch. Well picture it like this.
Your computer gets a virus or something. It gets all screwed up and stuff.
Well you have to do a System Restore. This is why POTC resets the servers to kill the bug. They have restore points. They reset the system back before the glitch happened. Well thats why you lose levels, fames, weapons.. rep... and so on.
Every time they reset the servers they go back a little farther and a little farther.
Thats why everyone is losing the weapons and stuff. But disney being the smart people that they are keep doing it. They need to stop resetting the servers and go in and address the issue with the Infamy update.

Hope this makes since.

SEAKING23 02-12-2011 06:12 PM

So... we aren't going to get our weapons back?

Davy Bluekidd 02-12-2011 06:17 PM

I'd figure if you had your weapons for a while, then you get to keep them. But if you just got them yesterday, you might lose them...
A counter to this glitch would be to leave pirates running as long as possible, before you logged and got the level 0 glitch...

Slouyx 02-12-2011 06:19 PM

Guilds were not affected by the reset, fortunately.

If you plundered them Friday, I'd say its a 50/50 chance. Anything you got before that you'll get back.

Roger Sharkshot 02-12-2011 07:03 PM

There was a reset

TelltaleGuilds 02-12-2011 07:05 PM

Does anyone else get the feeling that this all could have been avoided?

I think we all have that feeling... See disney, if they were nice, would have let us play while they were doing maintenance...

Ofury/ Tom 02-12-2011 09:05 PM

Mates before you say its able to be avoided and to be difficult. Please send me a link to your mmo and if it has as many players as this then go right ahead and say that it could be avoided. I'm sure its very hard to keep a successful mmo running and takes alot of time and effort you should be supportive rather than bash them down...

I played WoW from the time it was released until a few months after Wrath, and in all of those years of playing it, I have never seen any problems such as the ones we are seeing here on POTCO.. Which leads me to believe that Disney is seriously under staffing its development and programming team.

Catherine Ironcutter 02-12-2011 09:38 PM

There's hundreds of lines of program just for Blackjack tables. Now think of all the rest of the stuff they have to do: keep track of loot drops, chat, clothing, potions, notoriety, quests, weapons, fishing, treasure... all of this and more for each and every pirate. And I'm guessing there's at least 200,000 pirates. It's the equivalent of probably 2 million lines of coding, because you have to keep track of a certain thing at the exact same time as 20 other things. Disney works hard, and if a line or 2 of bad coding slips in somewhere, they have to go through most of that coding until they find it, fix the error, see if the game is working properly, if it messed something else up, they have to take it back down, find that error, and make sure the game is running then.

I know most of you play games with less bugs than this, but Disney is doing their best to make this a fun game for us all.

Your right actually. Are you a programmer?? You understand this rather well!! :buds:

I need to get back to my quests...

Stephen O'Malley 02-12-2011 10:25 PM

Thanks for the info, weather3472.

Personally, I don't mind them doing maintenance, since I understand that it is just to better the game - the only thing I don't like is how they chose the weekend to do it.. Then again, I don't know if this was intentional or not.

The Stealthy Pirate 02-12-2011 10:27 PM

I dont think it was intentional... if it was they wouldn't have done it on the weekends...

No, I'm not a programmer. But I am learning. And trust me, there's a lot of work involved in programming a game this size. A LOT of work. I can only program tiny things, such as text popping up on-screen, but even that has at least 5 lines of coding.

Davy Bluekidd 02-12-2011 10:40 PM

Thanks for the post,
and I've gotta agree with the post above me also, programing is beyond hard. I, once again am learning bits and pieces as well (see guild thread :P)
Anyway, this is for the better, so lets all just chill and go find other things to do...:piratewheelgo2:

Some glitches we like dont like to go so thats biter-sweet in a way. Plus they could be prepping for the release.

no i meant if you owned one that you created. If you don't then you shouldn't have any reason to be bashing them.

Aye, but we are the people paying hard earned money for a product they have offered. We the consumers, reserve the right to critique. And we also have the right to be upset if what we are paying for is not functional. And my point was to the fact that the reason Blizzard is so successful is that they allocate a proper portion of the game players investments to make sure that they do not have problems such as this.

titanic95594 02-13-2011 01:08 AM

I was very shocked when Disney did not want to release the info at first about server removal. HELLO! WE MAKE SURE YOU GET PAY CHECKS! I wonder if they are going head first on the disconnection issues.

Dorothy 02-13-2011 03:39 AM

The game has been overly lagged and glitchy since the last update, about a week or two? Yesterday I caught a glimpse of Infamy while logging in. My guess is all the codes have been percolating and the developers wanted to surprise us going live on a weekend. Surely they thought all was well and were as disappointed as we when all their work wound up a gooey mess. I knew today there were quests I would lose as they reset as soon as I turned them in. What are you gonna do? Play WoW? I don't have the patience to sit through the intro.

Dorothy taps foot impatiently. :pirate5:

Ofury/ Tom 02-13-2011 03:40 AM

the game just allowed me to load up idk if it works just yet tho.

Ofury/ Tom 02-13-2011 03:48 AM

very buggy but its up

I would seriously doubt that - test was closed for over a week! The testers didn't get any time to well... test things!

And I just got on open... I left potions at lv.18 last night, and now it is at lv.13. I am very annoyed right now.

EDIT: And open is closed again... Whee....

Blizzard is a Game company ONLY where Disney is a multi billion dollar company having games, TV channel, shows, Walt Disney picture, etc. Out of all of these, pirates online with any other game are the least profitable for them so they do not "care" as much. Blizzard is 24/7 on game editing and production. This gives wow the advantage over pirates but its not smart to compare Disney with Blizzard as Disney could buy blizzard if they wanted

maggie mae 02-13-2011 04:24 AM

Im on i have weapons but the place is deserted. theres one person and she has no weapons. i have everything
WEIRD
.

phishy2na 02-13-2011 04:27 AM

Same Point

Well, Leo you are agreeing with me then, that was pretty much my point. But, hopefully Disney decides that its game revenue from pirates could become even greater if they put more of the resources forth to ensure better experiences for its customers.

leo 02-13-2011 04:28 AM

And to the topic, from all these maintenances i never though of game being closed because of infamy because:
1. Infamy is on test ONLY
2.Test and Live are completely separated as if they were 2 different games
3.Plans for infamy to come to live are not set yet

Now a few days ago they had removed servers leading to me thinking that the server removing might have caused these bugs since all appeared soon after the announced maintenances.

:skull:Yea i know from experience in school, it takes forever to get a code to do what you want and then if it is huge like one of these it will take longer to fix, unless they have something like what we used to tell them where they messed up and even with that it still doesnt all ways help, the code where it is messed up can be anywhere... But by the looks of it they are determined to fix it!
:xxxk0:

maggie mae 02-13-2011 06:38 AM

well i was able to play for awhile. but just got disconnected. there was only one other player on. Thats as far as i could see, on all the islands. She had no weapons and was level zero. While i had everything, weapons, tonics, ability to tp and repair ships. Its now 10:30 pm here
so I guess they are still working. I am estimating I was able to play for about 2 hours, didnt do much so if i lose it all it wont mater much..Hope its up soon'

Blizzard also manages several different games, not just WoW. Disney has billions, so they have the money to hire thousands of Game developers and not even put a dent in that amount. And Disney has the money to buy Blizzard but it will never happen. If anyone's going to buy Blizzard it's going to be Microsoft or Activision.

So by your logic we shouldn't bash presidents or politicians if we have never been one ourselves. That is faulty at best. Paying customers have every right to bash or criticize.

FWIW, I've defended the programmers at Disney quite a bit. I understand how frustrating it is to work with code. In fact I am a few weeks away from taking my certification test in C++.

I hope they can put the kybosh on the nasty bug pretty soon. Nobody wants to see a full-scale mutiny.

dancerdudes 02-13-2011 04:17 PM

Their servers must be SQL based... they must be!

Their line of code must not be that long because all of this stuff just connects to a database.

They need to clean up their act. Get me my Seafurys guild back! (I logged in and I was still in Black Barts Krewe....... not Seafurys - so if anyone is near a Seafury - let know!) - Get me past Gunner - cause I just finished it, and get me halfway through level 39 - not almost to level 38.

Things need to be changed - and I won't settle for less otherwise I want my money back!

_kaytay_ 02-13-2011 04:45 PM

So am I not getting my entire pirate back?

WoW is a better prepared and more in depth game and it shows in its numbers of people that play the game. 12 Million players is something that is insane. I like that game very much. I think more fun

_kaytay_ 02-13-2011 06:33 PM

I like playing WoW but they don't have a free/basic account. You have to pay to play no matter what.

Charles Darkwolf 02-13-2011 06:38 PM

Well I just logged on for a little bit today and found one of my pirates I was working on, The Baron has lost quite a bit.

He was a level 48 now is a 47 again, mastered grenades, and is now all the way back to the beginning of 29. Plus I had sailing and cannons up to 29 and is now back to the lower 28's.

So I figure I lost about a weeks worth of leveling, and seeing as my playing time is limited as of late, I am so totally beyond the the point of anger! I had to log off because it was starting to make me sick.

They should..... :laughks2::laughks2::laughks2: From the WOW vids, many POTCO things are based on WOW stuff (since wow was released first), but jsut not as epic. I really want WOW designers to give POTCO a hand to make it better.

If Disney bought WoW then, WoW would be destroyed.
