Dark Hart = Overrated for weapons drops.

Is it just me or do any of you think that old Darkie is overrated when it comes to weapon drops?

Right now I have 7 famed and 1 legendary weapon (Silver Freeze). Out of the 8 weapons only the silver freeze came from Dark Hart. There have been times he's dropped other weapons that I might have gotten excited about, but for the most part they were weapons I either, 1. already had in my war chest, or 2. weapons I owned in the past and sold off to make room for upgrades.

The silver freeze drop was such a random thing too: I remember running through the gate and the fight was already underway. I tossed 1 or 2 grenades, and when I opened the chest, and to my surprise there's :12_1_138: the silver freeze throwing knife staring me in the face. I really was thinking that I was going to just find junk because at the most I landed 2 grenades in the whole fight before he was down for the count.

Now overall loot value may be a different story. I have picked up great rep at times, sometimes great gold drops and others he's a stingy old goat that you start to question why you are spending so much time there.

My Baby pirate already has a Famed that i think she picked up in Kingshead from a Dragoon. along with 2 rare ram and 2 rare sea charts from fishing that have proven to me more valuable to me that the majority of the stuff i have3 picked up from DH.

In the end if you're looking for a great weapon drop, DH just seams a little overrated. :12_1_138:

I'll agree with you there. Although I will say that he gives very good gold drops. I've found up to about 2K gold in a loot skull from him. Thats a bit beside the point, but I do agree. I don't want to bother counting how many of my twenty-some famed came from Darkhart, but if I were to take an estimate, I would probably say about six to ten of them came from him or Timmy Dartan. The thing about him is that he is a boss that is of a fairly high level, drops descent loot (not always incredible, but fairly descent...), and you can take him down in 2-3 shots if you have a good Blunderbuss. Since you can take him down so fast, he drops more loot in a shorter time period, therefore going through his "loot collection" faster, increasing your chances of famed/legendary. The fact that many people can get famed from him by camping out for a while, is a motivation for many people, but his reputation for dropping amazing loot is far overrated.

Good topic mate, I like it. I could see good arguments coming from both sides.... I smell a possible debate.

I completely agree.. I'm actually convinced that the surrounding gypsies and raiders give better loot. About 3 famed from them, and a grand total of one from DH.

I personally like Darkhart for looting. Of my 9 famed, 4 of them came from Darkhart. I often will camp out at Darkhart with the sole purpose of training weapons, and will come out with a famed, a really nice rare, and 2 or 3K gold, after... hmm... let's say, 2 hours?

He's not necessarily overrated. Maybe you just have bad luck with him. I personally don't. I've known several people who camp out all day every day at Darkhart for a week and never see more than a rare weapon or gold in loot. But then other people will do the same thing and walk away with El Patron's, other legendary weapons, and 3 or 4 famed weapons in the same amount of time. I personally can kill Darkhart for an hour, without looking for anything in particular, and walk away with a famed weapon. It's just luck and perseverance.

Also, stop looking for weapons. It works. Once you stop looking for something, it usually comes when you're least expecting it.

Well, I agree with Dark Hart being overrated for weapon drop, but I think many people go to darkhartalso to train weapons. He is (dispite being so easy) one of the hardest bosses in game. Now, I know devil root is harder, but how many people even know he exists? Even levels 50's often never heard of him. Foulberto Smahso is basicly impossible to kill right now, with only around 6 people left in that caves, all of whom are not even fighting him.

Dark used to be my go to spot to loot, but with cursed blades that has change. But he has given me 48 famed and 1 legendary weapon. 6 in one day as well last summer. So about 43% of my famed and 33% of my legendary drops are form Dark.

Captain Sharktooth 02-12-2011 05:57 PM

Out of all my looting spots, Darkheart has been the best for me. Here is a list of all my Famed I have gotten (not counting Raven's Cove quest or Smasho.)

Fishing- 1 Famed.
Remington/Neban- 0 Famed.
Isla Tormenta- 0 Famed.
Raven's Cove- 0 Famed.
General Darkheart- 2 Famed.
Anywhere else- 0 Famed.

I've never gotten much from Darkhart, only one weapon, my Seven Seas Cutlass, but I'll make a chart like Sharktooth did.

Fishing - 0
Neban - 6
Isla Tormenta - 1
Raven's cove - 0 (Not counting the quest)
Darkhart - 1
Smasho - 3
Anywhere else - 0

So yep, he's one of the least for me, I'm guessing it varies with some people, must just be the luck, but I've never gotten much from Dark, even though I've camped there for 9+ hours before.

Well of course they the Lost Sword of El Patron! (which isn't even a good sword) Anyone with decent luck can get it if they spend a week fighting a boss and killing him that quickly. I have spent weeks there and gotten nothing. The only thing that he is good for is getting gold quickly.:12_1_138:

Captain Sharktooth 03-21-2011 07:50 AM

Actually, the Lost Sword is a really good sword. Ghost Form? Reduces half the damage..... He is the only place other than Smasho and Fishing I have gotten a Famed from. he is not overrated.

combatlizzy 03-21-2011 02:24 PM

Think that it all just a matter of chance. But, it does seem that my lower pirates 3 of which are under lvl 50 are more fortunate in weapons drops. Then again, some of it might be calculated-have you noticed that when you need tonics or asps for your dagger, or a certain ammo that your pirate loots needed item? Just my thoughts...

ruisen2000 03-21-2011 04:20 PM

It really just goes back to - if you dont go to DH, where would you go? There's not a lot of places for a lv40-50 to get good loot. :laughks2: We need 1. stronger enemies and 2. more strong bosses, not overpowered like smash, but not so weak like DH.

Ofury/ Tom 03-21-2011 07:04 PM

i got my one and only famed from dark hart but i don't do much looting.

Stormchaser 04-15-2011 11:53 AM

Well it's sort of interesting I now have three famed weapons for my baby pirate, the last one came from DH. I was just about to give up the crew left and i stayed for just a littile bit longer and out popped Lost Sword of El Patron!

I think at lot of it has to do with the number o people playing there start to increase the number of drops, so that the likelyhood of a better weapon increases. Sort of like a slot machine, all chance but the more the lever is pulled the more likely it will eventually payout.

I still think he's a bit overrated, but i do like my new Lost Sword of El Patron, well Ishould say I thing i will like it. I now have some leveling to do.

Cannonfury 04-15-2011 04:12 PM

I see this is about loot, and yes I do think it just all has to do with chance and patience with the time, but I assumed this thread was about how overrated he is as a enemy. He is not hard to beat. The tormenta guys used to be really fun and hard to beat till disney redesigned the cave and made them sooooo WEAK!!!
