What does the Voodoo Staff do?

If anybody has got it yet, how powerful is it and what can you do with it?

Vangelis 11-08-2007 09:50 PM

From what I hear, it is VERY powerful.

To get it, you have to fight and kill many level 30+ strong enemies.

Some dude waltzed into Kingshead with one and annihilated everything lol

I am currently in the middle of getting the Staff. Will post more updates later, unless someone else does!

Update:

Don't hold your breath, this quest is bugged as well!

Part 1:

Defeat 10 Undead Raiders
10 Undead Gypsys
10 Undead Grenadiers

Part 2:

Defeat a Tree Stump

Part 3:

Sink a Skeleton ship for a shrunken head

Parts 1 and 2 done.... Part 3?

13 Skeleton ships later, and still nothing. Poor. I expected better!

Plunderin Mom 11-09-2007 07:11 AM

Uh oh. I was wondering if the quest was completeable. 13 Skeleton ships and no shrunken head yet, huh? Reminds me of the find a key on a skeleton ship quest that was bugged for a while. *Sigh* I was sure hoping we'd be able to complete it...

Vangelis 11-09-2007 09:50 AM

Unlikely! lol Now sunk 29 and still nothing, and you all know how much fun it is sinking skeleton ships...

Badpete 11-09-2007 05:09 PM

just wondering - are you doing this on open or test?

and when you sink the skeleton ships is it searching for the head?

what level are you when you get the initial quest for the staff? is it different on open vs test?

congrats on getting so far in the game!

Vangelis 11-09-2007 08:53 PM

I'm doing this on test mate, level 30 we get the quest

If it doesn't work on Test, it won't work in the main game!

It's not searching for the head at all lol

Seems bugged, more bugged than a rat's nest!

Vangelis 11-10-2007 11:05 AM

Update:

After a long think.....

Maybe it's beacause I'm only level 10 voodoo?

Plunderin Mom 11-11-2007 02:41 AM

I dont think that would make any difference. It's its own voodoo weapon and the level of your doll shouldnt matter, just like the level of your cutlass didnt matter when tryint to do quests for the dagger (that I know of).

Unfortunately, I think the quest is just bugged. I've personally never seen anybody with a voo doo staff. I've heard that somebody had one, but have to wonder if that was a developer, too, because I dont know anybody over level 30 yet that has one.

Happy plundering anyway! :)

SavvyPink 11-16-2007 01:41 AM

I'm not sure who this was (I'm begining to wonder if it was a tester), but a few minutes after Pirates Online closed for an update, I decided to login again. I got on and teleported to Tortuga. I heard some rather odd noise, and one thought popped into my head, "The staff." I ran towards the blue dot, and two my astonishment, there was a level 40 person, with the staff. It seems as though every item they had was completely leveled to 20. (Thus my thinking it is a tester) I must say the staff looked VERY fun, and I can't wait until that quest is fixed.

WizardHawk 11-22-2007 06:40 AM

I don't know if the staff is bugged on test as I'm only level 25 there, but I assure you it is just fine on open. I've had mine about a week now and its level 13 already. The spells are just insane and make fighting anything under a level 20 trivial at best. It almost ruins the fun of boarding flag ships in groups as you can pretty much kill off the crew yourself so it probably should best be used alone or when fighting in very high level areas to allow everyone some fun.

The basic first level spell is ok, but doesn't do all that much damage. The second one is a complete waste (IMO) and I'd take that skill point back if I could. The acid is effective, but the casting takes as long (maybe a bit longer) than the level 3 spell and just doesn't do as much damage. Level 3 attacks everything close to you. The closer something is to your exact casting spot, the more damage it takes. This is a massive attack weapon. The 4th level attack is called the flaming skull and works on anything in front of you. It will harm any/all enemy in a straight line out from where you are facing. This too is a massive attack, but takes a long time to charge it.

The best part about the staff may be the passive skills really. The first passive you get is faster voodoo recharge. Each dot you put in it speeds up voodoo recovery by 10%! I have like 3 dots in it and find my bar going up quite a bit faster. You have other passive skills that reduce the amount of voodoo used on both staff and doll spells among other things.

If you want to be a grand spell caster then work your doll up as high as you can (you will need the extra voodoo for the costly staff spells) and power up that staff fast and put some points into faster recovery to help both your doll and staff.

BadgerDog 11-22-2007 12:06 PM

I saw a level 38 on open yesterday with one. I was at Fort Charles when he came around and started dealing 1500+ damage with each attack. Got a picture of it too.

Zhalin 11-22-2007 12:21 PM

O.o

*tries to level up faster*
Need. That. Staff!

WizardHawk 11-22-2007 02:01 PM

looks kind of like my friend whos characters first name is matthew (won't say the last). He is almost level 39 and maxed on staff. I'm not quite that far, but still I can take out up to level 20's with one shot on fire skull so high damage is not a problem with this weapon. I only have 4 dots on it too. See my guide here for more pictures of what the different spells do.

So much better than grenades IMO.

Peggo 11-22-2007 05:12 PM

Wow. I could sure use that staff going into the caves of Tormenta.

tayseth 11-28-2007 01:27 AM

My friend, Johnny Mccrash, Roger bluehound, me and a couple of other people were training on Kingshead. Mccrash summoned a gaint beam onto a grunt and inflicted 1362 damage on it.

Gives you an idea, Em i rite?

Pretty hard to annihilate everything unless your staff is maxed out and you level is maxed out. It does do lots of damage though. With the basic shooting skill (not sure what it's called because I'm a LONG way from staff) that shoots little balls of whateveryoucallit, it would take about 20 hits to take out a Veteran. If you mix in some of the other hexes, like the thing that turns everything silver (dunno what it's called again) it shouldn't take long and your pirate won't sustain much, if any damage.

Hope this helps you understand a little bit what the Voodoo Staff is like. Also, there are no healing with the staff, just destruction. I wish there was healing!

WizardHawk 11-28-2007 04:43 AM

lol, someone giving info about an item they have never used.

The staff has several decent spells and a few dumb ones. While having 5 dots alone will not make you able to destroy anything/everything, combine it with some of the passive skills and you can come darn close.

The key is to have LOTS and LOTS of voodoo. Like having under 300 and you are just lame. Add some points in reduction of time to cast, reduction of voodoo used per spell, and/or increase spell damage and you can really make the ones you choose quite deadly.

I can easily kill a level 20 in one shot. A 35 stump goes up in about 3-4 shots.

This doesn't mean you can kill anything at will. The high level skels in tormenta cave are not easy no matter how high your staff is.

Unless the recent updates changed the quest which I doubt:

What was previously mentioned was accurate...

Part 1:
Defeat 10 Undead Raiders
10 Undead Gypsys
10 Undead Grenadiers

Part 2:
Defeat a Tree Stump

Part 3:
Sink a Skeleton ship for a shrunken head

Plus....

Part 4:
Defeat an enemy on every land.
(There is a similar step in the new upgraded voodoo doll quest)

There may be more to it, its been awhile since I did the quest, but I think that was about it. Steps 1-3 to create your staff, and step 4 to empower it. Its not that hard though. Not any harder than any of the other quests.

i figured this out on most quests: it dosnt search so wat i do to fix it is click track 100000 times and click on other quest too, then, track the head quest again and it should work.

Angel 05-13-2008 04:33 PM

After the update it dont tell you "Shrunken head not found" while you are searching. Just plunder another skelly and try again. It takes time.

prevailing3 06-05-2008 09:00 PM

what is a tree stump?

Hawkeye 07-16-2008 03:32 AM

I just got my voodoo staff 2 days ago, got addicted to it, now I'm lvl 15 staff working on getting the harrow staff, although I only had to sink 2 skeleton ships to get the shrunken head, the phantoms around padres del feugo is where I got it. Anyway, the first two attacks are pretty weak, but dont give up on the staff, unlock the first two skills you get then save up the points till you get to level 4 which is when you get the attack "wither" a pirates best friends when it comes to fighting multiple enemys, dealing 300+ on its first skill point and I have 5 skill points on it and I've hit over 700 with it. then you get "flaming skull", really awesome attack also not as good as wither when fighting multiple enemys and charges a little slowly but with 4 skill points on it I'm dealing over 1000 damage with it, after that you get "banish" only works on undead and sometimes hits over 1000 on its first skill point! it's very very slow at charging though and using a heck of a lot of voodoo.

here's a quick sreenie I made after using flaming skull on a dread scorpion (I have 4 skill points on it)

http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/a...staffpower.png
(the damage dealt is 1315)

last attack in the voodoo staff is called "desolation", my friend has it, it looks awesome when you cast it, it like a big hurricane with skulls and stuff everywhere and can easily kill somthing lvl 20 or more in one hit, bad part is that is hurts the person casting it so you should have a good healer when you're casting it.

(edit)here are pictures of all the voodoo attacks I have so far from first to last:

Soul flay:

banish:

and the last one desolation I do not yet have

Captain Seaford 07-16-2008 03:14 PM

I'm doing the quest now... woo. :D I dont know if this thread is old or not.

Bonnylass64 07-25-2008 08:38 PM

I see people with the staff all the time. Saw one guy in Kingshead who was doing serious damage to the navy there. And I have seen staff use at the fort in Port Royal too. It obviously is possible to get it. I am working my way up to it now. My doll is level 22 right now. I am not sure how you get the quest for it tho. Maybe when you reach level 30 you get the quest. I am looking forward to it. It is a serious weapon of mass destruction! :dancetl6:

This is correct. You get a note in your journal to visit Tia Dalma when you hit level 30. That is the Voodoo Staff quest.
