Capture Captian Gentry "Port Royal Crime Wave(hard)"
 

Usually I'm the one giving help, but in this case I just have to ask for it.

I'm at the very end of "Port Royal Crime Wave(hard)", and it's telling me to capture Captian Gentry from a 13+ Navy ship. This is my 3rd day on the quest so I have to ask, is there a minimum boat I can plunder to find him? I've sunk 7-8 lvl13 Greyhounds and a lvl 18 Centurion and he isn't appearing anywhere. As I said above, this is my 3rd day on the quest and I'm beggining to think that theres a certain type of boat that I have to atleast sink to get him...

...then again, it could always be bugged.

IDK what's up with that quest, I can't get him either and I can't drop the task. I've had this since at least the weekend, even sinking huge ships off the coast of Del Fuego isn't doing it.

Hmm, I'd truly guess it's bugged then, don't wanna call it though unless a couple more people are having this problem.

It probably is bugged. Either that or you have to sink alot more ships. Most likely bugged though.

I took me about 5 days. I'm not even sure what ship finally did it cause I just looked and it was done all the sudden. I did board a couple navy ships shortly before it was complete, but I'm not sure that's what did it.

It just took forever, and the card was not worth it :)

I actually had given up on it ever happening, but I kept it anyways just in case. Then, last night I had grouped with some guys to take on high level ships (25-34) and I got it on one of them. Like Thalore, I wasn't paying attention and it just kinda happened. My advise: don't go for it purposefully, but keep it just in case.

I lost count of how long it took for this to complete - basically I just ignored it and figured it was bugged. Then one day, the message popped up that I'd captured him. I've done the quest a second time since then and he seemed to be captured faster second time around.

Just hang on to it and wait for it to complete while doing other quests. :agapirateju3:

I'm having the same problem. I killed like almost everything around even a Man-O-War and i havent caught him yet.

I think the quest might be level related and one day you reach that certain level, he'll show up. I hope level 14, that'll be soon.

I just captured him, boarding a Man-of_War flagship. It was only the third ship I'd tried, and wasn't trying to finish this one, based on what I'd read, but there he was!

I wish I could add something more constructive, but I have completed this quest 3 times now. Each time, it took a while to capture the guy, and each time I did, I had to board a flagship.

Based on that, my assumption is that for this particular quest, the text should read capture by boarding.

Every chance I got, i sunk a 13+ ship, and everytime, i never found him. I finally found him when i sunk a man-o-war

Since this thread is still going on, I'll just add that I've still not captured him after all this time, doing many many high level ships + boarding.

Same here...I'm sure I've boarded/sunk well over 100 ships since I first got this quest. No biggie, I'm sure I'll be pleasantly surprised one day!

I took this quest again yesturday to see if there are issues with it and ended up geting the good captain the first day. Of course I sunk a man-o-war so level may have something to do with it, but I don't think I sunk more than 2-3 ships before getting him.

I haven't picked up this task but 2 members of my guild have. One has had it for 3 weeks the other 2 and no luck. We go plundering almost every night and do a lot of the flag ships and neither one of them has had any luck. One of them has been back and forth with Pirates with e-mails and no luck there they finally told her to call. Don't know if she has but when she finds out one of us will let you know.

I completed this task today after carrying it for about three weeks! Captured Captain Gentry by sinking a Man O War. FYI that it was NOT a flagship, so that's certainly not a requirement. But I had sunk DOZENS of other large Navy ships during the past few weeks, so perhaps the Man O War is the requirement, even though the text doesn't say so.

Just turned level 22, Level 16 sailing.
Hunting Navy ships for rum
(Rum for Gunner on Del Fuego, part of the Pearl crew quest, about 41% progress)
Sunk a frigate (about level 17) and scored Gentry out of the blue!
Sunk another galleon or frigate about 1 hour later and got Gentry again!!
Each time I was asked to maroon him at a wild island, which I did.

(and yes, I have sunk many, many different ships up to and including level 32)

So eventually he will pop up!

One of my guild members got Gentry (the other was not with us) and it was a Man-O-War. Ours was a flag ship but it looks like it most often is the Man-O-War that gives it to you.

Don't feel bad SP, I was a level 12 when I started the thread, 21 now and still no cap'n in sight.
EDIT: Worse part for me, POTCO won't let me drop it. The drop button is greyed out on it, but thats the only one besides the black pearl that it's done that to.

always seem to get him off of the afore mentioned man of war flagship. seems pretty consistent actually.

I seem to remember I got him off a very high level ship aswell.

I also got him off a Man-O-War when I was in someone's crew. I've had the quest for 2 weeks.

Perhaps you need to be in a crew for it to register? How many got him solo?

Heh, I guess they call it a hard quest for a reason...

I'm stuck on it too. I've destroyed endless Man-O-Wars, but no luck.

Edit: I think they updated it. It now says:

Capture Cap'n Gentry from a Navy Frigate.

2nd Edit: Yes, I got him from a level 9 light frigate. Happy hunting!

Finally caught 'im!
 

After weeks of searching, and some 14 levels of adventuring, I finally caught commander Gentry.

Had just completed the list quest, and turned level 21 (almost simultaneously), headed out to capture the main quest captain on a Frigate, found him and Commander Gentry both hanging out on a level 10 Navy Panther.

I know this is below the level 13+ specified in the quest, so I was a bit shocked. But the quest is marked as completed in the journal and I'm on my way to Shane McGreeny.

Same here! I just sunk a level 10 Navy Panther as well and captured him.

I might send in a bug report.

i have just recently finished that quest you have to sink a lvl 13 navy ship it says it in the despritcon

Ummm.. yes, I know...
 

I know it says that in the description (or at least it did- it sounds like some people are seeing a different description now without that), but I definitely got him from a Lvl 10 Navy ship. As I said in my earlier post, I was shocked, but it happened.
